I want to see smant go for a full run of a really hard game, he’s by far the best player in all of these youtuber events every single time and his other challenge runs make it clear that he has insane game knowledge
Smant really probably shouldn’t have been in any sort of competition for newbie nuzlockers. He doesn’t do nuzlocks but he does do absurd challenge runs all day.
The fact that SmallAnt recognized the significance of predamage is yet another factor that put him above the others in the race. Very impressive performance from him overall! Canada represent 🙏
Well, it's technically true. SmallAnt has very little nuzlocke experience, simply because he doesn't really do nuzlockes. Instead, he does over the top difficult and ingenious challenge runs, puzzles, and randomizers, which over the years resulted in a lot of knowledge about the games and mechanics. So while it's true he doesn't have much 'nuzlocke' experience, it absolutely doesn't surprise me that he won. While he was quite lucky against Wattson, he completely outplayed the rest on Brawly.
Yeah, it was also a bit weird because this statement isn't relevant as this is not a nuzlocke. This is a race so it makes sense that Smallant who is a speedrunner would win.
@@SadLittleTurkey That makes no sense, being a speedrunner doesn't give you better odds at winning a race if it's a game you've never speedran before. Besides, it's a race inside a notoriously difficult nuzlocke romhack, so having any nuzlocking experience is pretty relevant.
@@Fr0zenEagle Nuzlocking is a specific ruleset that is not being applied here (aka no permadeath here) so no, nuzlocking experience is only useful in the sense that the person might have played more pokemon. The only part that matters is the difficulty aspect and the speed, which favors Smallant because he does the most challenge runs and has done speed runs of pokemon in general even if not this specific romhack. Lastly, being a speedrunner even if he hasn't speedrun this specific rom hack before (though he has done multiple races in pokemon which are similar in nature) does in fact give an advantage. It's a mentality thing. It's like when Jan tries to do non nuzlocke challenges, he often struggles with the fact that the goal isn't to reduce casualties. In this specific for instance, Smallant was more than the others, willing to quickly test ideas even if they were risky. Speedrunners focus on time management, nuzlocking is risk management.
I'm honestly impressed that yours and Cap'n K's videos on the subject cover different enough aspects to both be watched without ruining the experience of the other.
He mentioned in one of his videos how he never studied in school, played his Gameboy in class, and still aced every exam. The dude could be a heart surgeon or something but instead is using his powers for video games lol.
As always, your knowledge is incredible. What’s been even more impressive is the growth recently in the quality of the presentation. Great job with the video!
Is Hitmontop actually random as an evolution in Emerald Kaizo? I haven’t researched into the rom but normally Hitmontop is evolved into when Tyrogue’s Atk/Def are even (I would know, I got one in Platinum as a kid)
2:46 and it's neutral to fighting and got stab fairy moves, so it's quite possibly the perfect counter to that gym, since you can just heal it using rest sleep talk. Why does Mawhile ever switch out? It's got the best typing in the game and decently high defence, and Intimidate.
Wait, Brawley has Mons up to Lv19, how i Gyra allowed there? Are oyu allowed to go 1 level over the next gym leader's highest level in an emerald kaizo run usually or is that "don't overlevel"-rule completely kicked for this game? Also, do they KNOW what they are up against? Like, do they get the same information about the gym leader teams that we had on screen? Oh and how exactly is Watson allowed to use a Raichu wiht TWO TIMES BODY SLAM? That's just a mistake in the stat sheet there, right? xD
Much of the community for Emerald Kaizo treats the level cap for Roxanne and Brawly both as one higher than they should be, since otherwise the early game is a massive slog which is far harder to get through.
Of course SmallAnt does something like that, there's a reason why he's the second ever person to get a Magic Muffler in Gen 3
Pfff the Magic muffler is okay but lets see him do something REALLY impressive like idk... competitive pencil sharpening

how is this good at every game I swear
He’s said he isn’t a big fan of nuzlockes. He did beat the ludlocke first try though
He’s done Garbage Green iirc, though not as a nuzlocke.
"insane game knowledge"
He did Shiny clause spam though

As soon as I saw the competitors, I turned to my dog and said “smallant beats Watson before the rest of them beat Brawly”.

The vid is also a bit misleading, he had a way bigger lead than it looks.
I don't watch the others, but I'd guess he's way more experienced with hard challenges as well. Not a fair battle
@@calamorta Yeah and not to play it down, but nuzlocke players wouldn't risk Gyarados like he did, the strat is only viable in this format
Drxx: Watson is one of the hardest fights in the game you need to play basically perfectly

It’s random because there are no evs in ek so you have to rely on the ivs of a Pokémon, so it’s essentially random

late reply but the way natures are calculated on trainers and bosses are through personality value. SHF didn't have complete control over natures
