Ikr As crazy as it sounds, its just so hard to get past how rare they are, and how late you get them, so you're almost never get any milage out of them
I think I disagree with Dunsparce F tier, yes it makes Brawly annoying when you encounter it but it has a really important niche use as a counter to Wattson's Lanturn. You can confuse ray Wattson's Lanturn with your Lanturn first, swap in with Cheri and then Glare/Double Edge and potentially kill lanturn. If dunsparce dies it usually does enough damage first the Lanturn can be revenge killed by your ampharos counter, and if it lives then because it's a shitty dunsparce, you can just sac it to random move ampharos. Lanturn counters are few and far between and this is a fairly consistent one.
Dunsparce actually, was a really good counter to Lunatone. Like you all are just assuming that you have to risk getting hypnosised Lunatone on the Grovyle you switch in you have the Grovyle out you bullet seed, does half damage and then it hypnos you, you miss, you kill it. Like if you have Dunsparce out, it does 20 damage, it is so much of a tank that it does literally 20 damage.
I have to disagree with the placement of Lanturn on behalf of this statement alone; "It's about the only pokemon you need to beat the game" That should place it in S+ tier, given Volt Absorb, no?
I don't disagree with Lanturn's placement, but I kinda disagree with the statement: You DO want that and Wattsons without a VA Lant, Sunflora or Swellow have an incredibly high chance to wipe or make you lose multiple mons. Realistically, beating Wattson with 2ish deaths without these 3 is a "success" I guess. It's also a huge mon in uncountable other scenarios and can make many fights riskless, but it's never straight up required anymkre after Wattson People sometimes even reset runs if they don't get Lant and back in the day that was way more frequent than today - I feel like nowdays more player will just try a Lantless Wattson with cool strats - but that might be an impression. Personally, I would have MAYBE put Lant and Illu in s+ but without changing the order so it barely even matters
Sort of a tough thing to evaluate but often if something is very necessary that necessity is often overlooked because otherwise it really skews tier lists. You can account for it but it's often better to weigh it a bit less and look at contributions throughout the game. I don't think this really comes up in Pokémon much and I'm looking at it from an FE angle but I think it's fair to evaluate it similarly.
Funny enough I had lanturn in S+ up until the time of recording. I kinda used that same argument but a lot of people I was asking for critiques said lanturn should be down in S. I could see arguments for both but I think it just came down to e4 value.

Dunno if this is subjective but in my run i got immense value out of predamaged Fake Out in Double Battles, also Blastoise is bulkier than most midgame Water types and it often can tank one more hit before being in crit range while dealing decent damage with stoss. I remember using it a lot in midgame, especially against other water types (this might be because i picked torchic and thus didnt have gecko to ohko them tho xD). Still I feel it deserves B Tier at least
Recently got into nuzlocking emerald kaizo and this tierlist helped me put together my most convincing roxanne fight yet. I got shit luck on encounters getting surskit, hoppip, and unown. Seeing 2 of them in F tier and 1 in D tier allowed me to comfortably decide to bring 2 of them to roxanne knowing 1 of them was going to die for sure and the other was to be my "rng was not with us" switch fodder (turns out I forgot how encore and paralysis work together, kinda wishing I had dropped t-wave for wish). While I don't necessarily want to be handed strats, knowing I won't miss mons later in the game allows me to manage bad encounters so much easier than if I was worried about losing any of them.

Nonetheless, you have some pretty respectable takes and I think this tier list is a really good ranking of the emerald kaizo encounters. Overall great but some placements like Forry, pert and azu are higher or lower than they should be. My GOAT forry is an easy s tier just for the E4 value
I think sunflora should be in s tier a decent sunflora can completely sweep glacia with only 1 crit risked assuming you bring a glalie counter and shell armor slowbro (spoiler you will) and beacause of that i think it’s better than ludicolo for e4 teams and it should be on the same tier
@Drxx what about the Mirage Island encounters (Sableye and Shuckle)? I know they aren't reliable if you can't make the island spawn but there are tools that exist to manipulate it into spawning, and I caught a run-defining Sableye there in my winning attempt. Easily better than Dusclops in my opinion. Do you have any experience with those encounters?
Sableye is much better than Dusclops, legitimately one of the best Pokemon in the game. Which is why you normally can't get one until after you beat the E4 in this game. I don't think they should be part of the tier list as most people won't get that lucky or go through the trouble of forcing an island spawn

I just completed this rom hack. Surprised at Crobat being so low, he was an MVP throughout. My Blastoise was great too, having fake out, muddy water, mirror coat and blizzard. Blizzard so good against the tough to kill dragons and mirror coat is essentially a free kill. Swampert also useful in this way plus STAB earthquake and high defensive stats is always good. I tried Armaldo and felt it was underwhelming. Maybe it had bad IVs. Hariyama, Lanturn and Camerupt were so useful early game. Charizard IMO should be F tier simply because Ancient power is a free kill and it's SO common.
The thing is, this tier list is assuming you are nuzlocking and have all the docs and calcs, so you would know what has ap, and also blizzard's low accuracy isn't appealing for nuzlockers who want to minimize risk

I wonder how this tier list would vary if you took the availability of Pokémon into account. For instance, you only get dusclops for the last part of the game, whilst mons like treecko might give you an overall higher win % since they’re there for more of the game.
Nice video with good insight. It did seem a bit odd that you didn’t rate starters based on opportunity cost but then did do it for some of the F tier encounters.
If every Pokémon had perfect IVs guaranteed, there a lot of fights that become a hell of a lot easier. It would be interesting to break down the ways each fight becomes easier, but that would take an extremely long time and I’m quite a busy person, so I’ll do one big one. You’d always pick Torchic in this format because (unless that torchic was minus speed nature or minus special attack nature) the resulting blaziken is an absolutely cracked elite four mon. It can kill Steven’s Metagross and Jirachi back to back. In fact, lots of teams in EK look the way they do because of IVs. Lots of strategies, like the blaziken one I just pointed out, are only possible with high IVs in certain stats. If this was possible 100% of the time, every elite four team would be running Blaziken on it, but instead Blaziken isn’t all that common on the elite four. Don’t get me wrong you see a few people with Blazikens on their elite four every now and again, but, in a format where IVs were perfect, Blaziken would be slowbro levels of ubiquitous.
Considerably easier imo. 31 Speed, 31 SpA/A lets you outspeed and one shot so many more mons, and 31 defensive stats lets you switch quite a bit more comfortably. A lot of crits that you have to potentially risk don't kill anymore, and fast offensive mons become crazy.
If you get Relicanth in fishing sim and is not SS you are probably not use it whatsoever imo. People usually says both abilities are good but is just about the moment you catch it, so for me Reli is a bit higher on the list that has to be. Good job btw, you organized the info very well
Rock Head is also viable in some fights, for example you can decimate archie 2 dnite qwil and kingdra with the right pivots on the other side. You prob still want SS tho for E4
I still am not familiar with some of these Pokemon from other games. I found Dunsparce when playing Kaizo the first time, and I thought it was like a precursor to a dragon or something, so I used like 40 pokeballs on it and got beat up really bad by it trying to catch it. Im new to HC Nuzlocking but ive watched you and PC and wolfey.. so im doing my first attempt at EK HC. Today has been brutal but ive gotten the hang of how to beat roxanne. If it were you would you just scoop and reset if you got a bunch of garbo encounters early? Cause lately i have been. I had a run with -speed nature treecko, wingull 103, growlithe that roared me on oldale (i have yet to catch that pokemon on an encounter), and then meowth in 102. Also do you think its better idea to fish 102 or go for a grass encounter. the grass encounters to me seem kinda niche and low key i just want to get a lucky barboach lol
yea i like to reset for sunflora/magcargo depending on my starter choice and start with a really good iv starter. without that runs day way more often. i pretty much always like to fish on 102 to get a necessary encounter

Blastoise for me personally was good mid game, especially in those double battles with fake out. There probably were more viable Fake out users but I liked Blastoise because of his well rounded stats! Nonetheless great video, congrats on 10k
I disagree with the forre placement. He’s got the battle armor. He’s got the spikes. He’s got the boom. He’s got the intim pivoting SAUCE Easy S Also with Swampert, remember that getting Mudkip as a starter actively hinders your Roxanne and makes you miss out on scep and the chicken, some of the better E4 brings Azu is super overrated. It’s decent early but even then, Brawly’s gym trainers are easy and for brawly himself, *Gyarados has entered the chat*
The analysis was so good and thorough… the only issue is about 1/4 of the rankings don’t at all match what you say about it and a handful of them were 3 or more tiers away from where I thought they’d be

good list imo, if I had to critique I'd move fir types up, whiscash down, swampert up, wobb down, and sceptile down a tiny bit. But good list, and good video
F tier aipom?! That thing it a monster! It gets stab fake out which amedietly which early game does half health to most foes He learns brick break asap as well which means eg any normal types are dead It learns amazing normal moves like body slam and double edge also early It just has extreme eg firepower. And is an amazing bridge mon.
I just kinda thought of it as if you were to pick swampert how good will it be and plus people genuinely like to pick it. There’s certain encounter routing that can work with pert players. There’s also a huge debate with blaziken or sceptile

I think more tiers are fine when you are ranking hundreds of things. It just makes it easier to show that there is a gap between the best of the 72 "mid tier" pokemon and the worst without ranking all of them in order.

Considerably easier imo. 31 Speed, 31 SpA/A lets you outspeed and one shot so many more mons, and 31 defensive stats lets you switch quite a bit more comfortably. A lot of crits that you have to potentially risk don't kill anymore, and fast offensive mons become crazy.
It effectively makes you balanced with the ai, and then better because you have badge boost
If you get Relicanth in fishing sim and is not SS you are probably not use it whatsoever imo. People usually says both abilities are good but is just about the moment you catch it, so for me Reli is a bit higher on the list that has to be. Good job btw, you organized the info very well
Rock Head is also viable in some fights, for example you can decimate archie 2 dnite qwil and kingdra with the right pivots on the other side. You prob still want SS tho for E4

I still am not familiar with some of these Pokemon from other games. I found Dunsparce when playing Kaizo the first time, and I thought it was like a precursor to a dragon or something, so I used like 40 pokeballs on it and got beat up really bad by it trying to catch it. Im new to HC Nuzlocking but ive watched you and PC and wolfey.. so im doing my first attempt at EK HC. Today has been brutal but ive gotten the hang of how to beat roxanne. If it were you would you just scoop and reset if you got a bunch of garbo encounters early? Cause lately i have been. I had a run with -speed nature treecko, wingull 103, growlithe that roared me on oldale (i have yet to catch that pokemon on an encounter), and then meowth in 102.
Also do you think its better idea to fish 102 or go for a grass encounter. the grass encounters to me seem kinda niche and low key i just want to get a lucky barboach lol
yea i like to reset for sunflora/magcargo depending on my starter choice and start with a really good iv starter. without that runs day way more often. i pretty much always like to fish on 102 to get a necessary encounter

Blastoise for me personally was good mid game, especially in those double battles with fake out. There probably were more viable Fake out users but I liked Blastoise because of his well rounded stats!

160 base attack with STAB 120 base power move on 100 base speed. It kills a lot of neutral targets
You can switch it out after you get a kill and bring it back in and not have to take a loaf turn

I think more tiers are fine when you are ranking hundreds of things. It just makes it easier to show that there is a gap between the best of the 72 "mid tier" pokemon and the worst without ranking all of them in order.
