I spent the day at the range (El Campo, TX) last week. I got there mid morning and it was in the high 80's. Humidity was down so it didn't feel bad. By 11:00 it was 100 and it stayed there until I left around 5pm. I walked 12,000+ steps checking targets and general "range stuff". I didn't have any trouble with heat exhaustion. Staying hydrated and out of the sun is the key. I spend time in Big Bend when I can. Every frikken year someone doesn't go home when they hike an "easy" trail in the middle of the day in the summer. He built a cart that he carries his ammo, cooler, and rifles (has a rifle rack) from stage to stage. The stopped making fun after a little time in the hot sun lol. He said he can barely find a spot to stand when he takes it to the matches. I don't know anything about PRS matches or how they get from stage to stage.
What a great and fun video Erik thank you very much. For the next, please put the distance to target for all stages please. Again thanks a lot it was fun! :)
@@ErikCortina hey I have to do a part 2 bro so ppl know u were joking. I will pin your video in the comments again and tag your channel, actually send some ppl your way. I had no idea so many people had not seen the original. You are the goat!!!!

This was awesome. I felt tired and hot after watching you guys in that Texas heat. Guess I need to start working on cardio and position shooting lmao. 😂 😅 Great video guys.
Looks like a fun course of fire. My big question is is it just the personal preference of the MD to remove mags while moving positions? I've never experienced that before at any of the PRS matches I've shot. Usually it's just bolts back or gas guns on safe. That heat though. And here I thought it was bad in southern Indiana this past weekend when it was high 80's/low 90's. Us northern folk aren't used to the 100+ stuff. lol Great vid!
Looks like a lot of fun. Would love to have a higher end rifle and optic to feel comfortable with shooting those lengths. Thank you for showing this type of content.
what is the reason for having to remove te mag everytime you have to move in the stage?, Im guessing its for safty but could you not just keep to bolt open
Second time i have watched a rifles only match and i noticed the requirement to remove the mag on movement. All the PRS matches I have shot including the GAP Grind three times we never had to remove the mag just bolt open. Definitely adds a lot of time. I will have to practice that in case I get to shoot at Rifles Only some time. Great video! Every match director runs the way they want so not critiquing just commenting. This would definitely change the PRS skill stage timing.
@Aimagejewelry it seems that PRS rules are not safe enough for Rifles only. If you want to have a stage to practice mag changes, then one or two would suffice.
This is great content for somebody looking to go into the sport they always say to “check out Match” before you go, but this kind of lets you do it virtually I like the question: what would you do differently?
Hi Eric. Thanks for all the valuable information. Just a question off kilter if that is okay with you. I have been using the accuracy 1 shoulder to ogive measurement tool. Have you done this form of measurement , and if you have, what are your thoughts on measuring from the shoulder to ogive for bullet seating? Thanks again for all the schooling. Andrew Thatcher.
That young man will be a super pro once those nerves calm down. He gets a little gray in that beard he will be unstoppable. Any advice on a hunting load for 30-06 using 165 gr hornady interlock, and h4350? Trying to get atleast moa at 100 yards. Side note any advise on 30-30, did find out my gun doesn't like light bullets and leverevolution powder, groups tightened up using 170 gr Speer round nose, and vargat powder. Have been loading in a ladder type manner to see what diffrence in groups I get, but I'm not the best at reading that type of thing, any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Wish I had “2 eyes” hard to shoot from both sides of the rifle with only one eye unless I had super high scope mount or a second scope offset to one side…that sure looks like such fun times though 😊
First time I’ve ever seen a match where you have to remove your mag between positions. Bolt back is standard. Mag out is weird. I hope they at least increase the time limit due to that oddity.
@@ErikCortina yep, I get the safety aspect of mag out while transitioning. And that’s on the range/MD for how they want to run their match. Just seems a tad unfair for you guys compared to all the others who don’t have to do that. For PRS club match or Pro series match mulligans are not allowed for any PRS matches as of the last couple seasons, and there was a huge stink about it a couple years back or so. Glad to see you and your guys out there representing and shooting some PRS! Looks like they treated you guys to some awesome grub after the match too! Curious about the next gen 6mm tuner brake, even after I chose not to use a tuner on my rimfire after testing one of yours.
The risk of an accidental discharge is higher when there is ammo in the gun than when there is no ammo in the gun. Unlikely, yes, but still possible. Those are the rules at Rifles Only, we simply follow them. It's a great place to shoot at.
@@ErikCortina semi auto rifles in both PRS and PRS-22 need to follow the same rules. Open and lock back the bolt as well as take the magazine out of the rifle and put the rifle on safe.
Is it a rifles only thing to have to take the mag out before each movement? If so is there extra time for that? No wonder you guys timed out. 120 seconds for the stage, not to be jacking with the mag.
Yes, pull mag before you move. 90 second stages, not 120. 😁 Why you may ask… it’s safer and teaches shooters to reload mags like a pistol shooters would do.
Erik thank you for what you are doing for these young men. You are helping them to become the next generation of American Riflemen.
Thank you.
Good to see young blokes with good manners. Some awesome gentle correction along the way. Teachable spirits...
I love the way shoters help each other and teach also the wonderful.
Thank Erik God bless

You heard that huh? 😂
LMFAO
Have you ever had a nut fall though one of the holes? 😂
I actually listened to that more than watching the video ) group showers… what’s going on at that event?)
Great vid ! Way to go Mitch! I'm a PA to CA transplant. Can relate to the heat issues. Great. Now I wanna PRS! Good rope advice!
Lol, the excuses 😀. Seemed like an amazing match and one helluva learning curve. Thanks for the coverage Erik and team 😎👍

Jacob says it’s for safety and to make us all better at mag changes.
Ya definitely annoying to have to mag out every move. Can you just use multiple mags? It can’t be much safer than bolt back but rules are rules
@Aimagejewelry it seems that PRS rules are not safe enough for Rifles only. If you want to have a stage to practice mag changes, then one or two would suffice.
So by "left hand" they mean left shoulder only?
This is great content for somebody looking to go into the sport they always say to “check out Match” before you go, but this kind of lets you do it virtually
I like the question: what would you do differently?
I'm just wondering why they don't have a off hand section in the shooting course, it would make a super fun part of it I suppose.
Sometimes they do. Just not this time.
Awesome video Erik! Seems like a silly rule to make you drop the mag when you move.. I get safety but if the bolt is open what's the point ya know
Awesome video Erick! Where do I sign up for the rifles only PRS day?
Erik that is intense..on clock
Love my SS6…running 6 dasher in it!!!

I’ve never been involved or watched a PRS match where you were required to remove your mag before transitioning barricades.
That means you have never been to Rifles Only. :)
At the beginning of the video, Jacob describes how serious he takes safety at his place.
Horrible heat, especially for a first time, great shooting from all of the guys, kudos to you Erik for taking someone new.

So you can use brakes in PRS? Might have to check it out... Most other disciplines forbid brakes so I've stayed away.
Yes, brakes and supressors allowed.

Indeed. :)

mag out during transition between positions? ouch....man that's a time killer.
I guess not being fully behind the glass before closing the bolt is acceptable
did he say a mulligan? uhh......that's a big no-no for actual PRS-sanctioned matches..... hmmm
