    Quarter of a century later, after Ben Orr's passing.....we're all still here by the Thousands....Tuning in, looking up, listening, watching thee One and Only BENJAMIN ORR. That speaks volumes. I sure hope he can see the loyal dedicated fans, all because he simply was and will remain the immortal Benjamin Orr.

      Strange, when Rick passed I opened a Bottle of Rye and sat in the back yard and reminisced High School in the late 70's. How I over looked this song baffles me, sure Rick wrote it, but Orr's effort is a next level memory for sure.

    The Cars were one of my most favorite Bands. I saw them live in the 70's. Benjamin was my favorite. I thought he was the most beautiful man I'd ever seen. I'm so heartbroken that he died so young. The fact that it was Cancer was a crushing blow to me. I lost my only son to Cancer when he was 32. Nobody deserves to suffer like that. I'll always keep listening to your music. Sending love and prayers to you Benjamin I hope you are in Heaven with Rick and my son Matthew. 😔💔🙏🙏🙏💙💙💙❤️❤️❤️🎸🎶

Greg's keyboard playing throughout almost all of The Cars songs through the years had a lot to do with the "sound" of the Cars. Man does this bring back memories of my youth, of being hopelessly in love with a girl who didn't feel the same. I had this album on cassette in my car and would play it all the time, hoping beyond hope that if I waited long enough my crush would come to her senses. Lol, it never happened but that is youth, this tune takes me right back to those bittersweet days.

    When I was young with that...impressionable mind, it was the early 80's...and this song was ALL OVER the airwaves. Out of many of their huge hit songs it was THIS SONG that was left behind in my mind only to bang around in there for the next thirty years or so. It still sounds fresh even today. I think that's what every musician tries to achieve- a song of lasting quality that has tremendous "staying power." Ben was...."a natural" when it came to grabbing ahold of a musical idea and transforming it into a wonderful catch-hook and ultimately, a hit song. I absolutely adore this band.

    • @EarmuffHugger
      @EarmuffHugger 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      He talked and sang at the same time kind of like alot of famous vocalists such as Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and many older crooners of by gone eras.
      It was apparently natural for him. His vocals were extremely unique though, like no one else's.
      His smoothness and ability to put feeling and meaning into each word is unsurpassed in the Rock genre.

      Earmuff Hugger yes, I do agree with this. Benjamin had a unique voice, style and pronunciation of words when he sang, it's lovely to hear him sing on "Stay The Night"... It's a sweet typically 80s love ballad but to me it's different from the run of the mill ballads of the time. It's become one of my fav tunes ..."Drive" being my ultimate fav 80s hit..

    This music is like a drug. I can not get enough of it. It was Ric and Benjamin's best idea to start such a fantastic group.
    Benjamin was last on the stage in Palmer, Alaska, on September 28, 2000. Well here he could not anymore and said softly to his bandmate:
    Skip "Drive" - I can not do that. Drummer Lieberty De Vitto said: "We all looked at each other and thought - that was it.
    How sad this situation was for them and also for all spectators, I can well imagine. One last time "live" to see such a great musician and lose forever after a week. God bless you, dear Benjamin.

      Clee Torres I interpret this as the anxious rattled nerves sitting at home all twisted up inside over a girl; when to be so stressed you would be like late to the airport to catch a flight but your booked to go nowhere get nothing done but sit there and Keep Waiting for ..... Her. And after all, all the lyrics are about wising up to the situation so cancelling that flight to nowhere is cancelling the madness.
