whenever i start feeling low and down, i visit this clip from one piece to see zoro and luffy to tell remind myself that men who do not burn themselves enough are the men who never succeed and achieve what they want to. Oda may not realise it but he is helping a lot of people through his work. Nothing motivates me more than the commitment of Roronoa Zoro and Monkey D. Luffy.
I know this scene is meant to be awesome and touching..... but I can't help but laugh at the fact that Mihawk was talking to Luffy while Luffy was shaking his butt to get his head out. XD
Zoro never lose to any 'swordsman' after this lost to Mihawk. His lost to Kuma and Kizaru are not valid in my opinion as both of them are clearly not a swordsman.
they arent technically valid because Kuma beat him when everyone was basically weak and tired. and Kizaru beat him in one hit because he was warn out. (i do not remember from what because i think Kuma came after) either way both times he was tired and weakened by something prior
nope, after the tenryuubito incident a pacifista appears and the whole strawhat crew defeats it joining forces and all of them end up worn out, after that sentomaru appears with another pacifista and they are forced to split in three groups, kizaru appears then and defeats zoro, and since sentomaru is fighting luffy's group and the pacifista is fighting the other group they cant help zoro, but then rayleigh appears and saves him, and at the end the real kuma apears and defeats/saves the whole crew sending them flying all over the grand line.
oh now i remember. i reall need to brush up on my One Piece story line. I'm on the most recent episode but i dont remember some of the battles the straw hats have has
its ok, im up to date to but i re-read the whole thing every other year (so about every time they get to another island more or less) just to keep memory fresh, remember all the "misteries" and see all the foreshadowing that oda has been leaving all over the story :)
Zoro is making this promise pointing Wado Ichimonji (Kuina's sword) to the heavens, bolstering onto his first promise to become the strongest swordsman so his name could reach her up there. His conviction and determination is now dedicated to two important people in his life: his captain and his best friend.
The fact that Zoro called Luffy the Pirate King even when Luffy was relatively a nobody No bounty Not to the son of dragon Not to a haki user Not to the commander of grand fleet The trust they have between them is unparalleled
After all these years what really sticks out to me is that after being basically defeated without any chances of winning, and being shown your place in this huge world - zoro did not worry about his skills, about the "humiliation" or his defeat.. he justed wanted to give his oath to his captain and fullfil is duty as the right hand of luffy - he is badass and now in wano I hope zoro gets his moment so shine!
Legendary Scene. This Animation is not Superior to the Post-Timeskip Animation though. This just showcases examples of why "Straw Hat" Monkey D. Luffy, "Pirate Hunter" Roronoa Zoro, and Dracule "Hawkeyes" Mihawk are my 1st, 2nd, and 4th Favorite Characters in the Series respectively.
i think this is the only time Zoro has ever cried in the series... now that i think about it....if Mihawk is the greatest swordsman in the world, what does that make Shanks?
Well, I think Shanks isn't just a swordsman, I guess when they fought, were talking about pure skills in sword fighting only and I believe that Shanks has more to that than just being a swordsman. So for me Shanks > Mihawk but it is still just my opinion, we won't know until we see what Shanks is capable of.
I have so much depression n negative thoughts .. I came here to watch Zoro to give me strength n dnt give up on life.. i hv his wallpaper as a reminder dnt be weak dnt cry ..NVR again
Everything is so legendary about this scene. Zoro's declaration, MiHawk's epic speech, the music, Luffy saying he'll become Pirate King and then that smirk at 01:24. Man oh man what brilliant direction, what brilliant writing!!!
Live action is GREAT. But they dropped the ball on this one. Tbh I can't think of a good reason to not keep this dialogue. I'm a little mad they took it out. Rare L for the live action writers.
When Usopp and Luffy fight, Zoro is affected inside but his loyalty to Luffy was shown when he said he will never accept someone if he disrespect his captain. The most epic part is that he said, "If you, the man who is above me shows weakness to me, the next time who will leave this group is Me". I really love that part. This shows how much Zoro respect Luffy
People will tell you that Zoro isn’t a well built character since Oda didn’t give him much of a backstory. One Piece is Zoro’s backstory. It’s shows everything you need in a backstory. The reason he joined the main character, his goals/aspirations, his growth from a recently introduced character into a fully fleshed out character. We see how he goes from joining Luffy at the start because it was his only option, and he stays with Luffy to the end because he develops true loyalty. He became strong for Luffy, he risked his life for Luffy, he almost left Usopp behind on Water 7 just for the sake of Luffy. His loyalty is unmatched. He even knew that if they let Usopp on without a heartfelt apology then he would walk all over Luffy. Zoro truly understands what loyalty means and Zoro is synonymous with the word loyalty in the One Piece world at the current point.
I just like how Mihawk grins when Luffy boldly declares his goal to be Pirate King, he can see even now that Luffy has the potential to go the distance.
Zoro was pointing his sword towards heaven and speaking directly to Kuina. He promised her he’d never be defeated again, then asked Luffy if he had a problem with it. Losing to Mihawk was probably his first real loss since Kuina gave him the business as a child.
Zoro declares his loyalty not just just because luffy saves him before. But also, Zoro had been looking for Mihawk for years but he couldn't find him. But after travel with Luffy, he found Mihawk. It not just a coincidence, but a fate.
why.. why?? didn't they add the last line "Pirate King" to the live action would've been soo much better and immersive. Wouldn't even have minded if they added some tear drops from zoro's actor in the LA action too🤭
Agreed and Mihawk should have been there to hear it. He shows respect to Zoro in the live action but in the manga and anime you truly see he wants Zoro to surpass him and believes ome day he will.
I liked the live action, but honestly I think they messed up Zoro. They focus a lot on his strength and goals but missed on how he and Luffy act. Zoro and Luffy's interaction is what hooked me on One Piece. They realize how similar they are right off the bat and Zoro's admiration for Luffy feels a bit more forced in the live action.
I really love how Mihawk asks Luffy what his goal is and when Luffy straight up tells him to become the king of pirates he immediately recognizes Luffy as someone worthy and with the right ambition to be the captain of the one that he hopes reaches his level and surpasses him one day, he's happy that Luffy is aspiring to become something even greater
In the first time episode Luffy meet Zoro, Luffy said "komaru" Then when Zoro defeated by Mihawk, he answer Luffy's line about "komaru" "If I didn't become greatest swordsman you'll be troubled" Zoro didn't forget what Luffy's said..
I find this to be one of the best scenes in one piece, we can see that zoro's pride is deeply hurt because this is the first and only time zoro ever cried, this fight changed him a lot, thats for sure, he saw the distance of mihawk's hability in comparison to his, and the strenght of this promise is just outstanding, zoro is truly luffy's right hand :]
Yeah, I thought I'm only one. Also when Mihawk saw in Zoro huge potential he immediately asked his captain about his goals. And hearing "Pirate king" he kinda convinced that this may not be a simple crew.
East Blue is the weakest ocean. That was said many times in manga. Devil fruits are rare in other places as well. Like Skypea and Amazon Island. But obviously that eas the first adventure out of sea and Oda didnt have showed any other devil fruit character.

whenever i start feeling low and down, i visit this clip from one piece to see zoro and luffy to tell remind myself that men who do not burn themselves enough are the men who never succeed and achieve what they want to.

XD
angel26898 - I know right. Akward 😐
only in the anime, in the manga chapter Mihawk evaded his attack and Luffy crashed normally, he was talking to him not his butt.

He was weakened cause of Kuma and the sacrifice he made. That episode of the sacrifice confirmed the loyalty to him and his goddamn endurance,
nope, after the tenryuubito incident a pacifista appears and the whole strawhat crew defeats it joining forces and all of them end up worn out, after that sentomaru appears with another pacifista and they are forced to split in three groups, kizaru appears then and defeats zoro, and since sentomaru is fighting luffy's group and the pacifista is fighting the other group they cant help zoro, but then rayleigh appears and saves him, and at the end the real kuma apears and defeats/saves the whole crew sending them flying all over the grand line.
oh now i remember. i reall need to brush up on my One Piece story line.

Yes
The fact that Zoro called Luffy the Pirate King even when Luffy was relatively a nobody
No bounty
Not to the son of dragon
Not to a haki user
Not to the commander of grand fleet
The trust they have between them is unparalleled
This scene touches me just as hard as the one when Zorro took all of Luffy's pain in thriller park arc. Still gives me goose bumps every single time!
And from this point Zoro never lose another swordfight ever again.
The only time in the series that Zoro has cried.

UnexpectedWonder who's third?
Philip Shin "Red-Haired" Shanks.

Fire Angel Chris Yep...
i think this is the only time Zoro has ever cried in the series...
now that i think about it....if Mihawk is the greatest swordsman in the world, what does that make Shanks?
Fz30 strongest haki user
he also cried when they saw the 'ugly' mermaid who rescued them (not really cried but he had tears cause of terror)
And Zoro cried when he was a kid and asked for Kuina's sword.
Shanks was on par with Mihawk when he had both arms, so I guess slightly below.

Here after watching the live action trailer and zoro saying "you're my captain, from now until the end". What a time to be a One Piece fan

Everything is so legendary about this scene. Zoro's declaration, MiHawk's epic speech, the music, Luffy saying he'll become Pirate King and then that smirk at 01:24. Man oh man what brilliant direction, what brilliant writing!!!
This oath can give chills why the heck did the live action not put efforts in the oath scene
It was as easy as making Zoro call Luffy pirate king. It's just that. Mutual trust in their dreams.
Live action is GREAT. But they dropped the ball on this one. Tbh I can't think of a good reason to not keep this dialogue. I'm a little mad they took it out. Rare L for the live action writers.
captain and first mate
Roger and Rayleigh

Yeah and imo having Zoro's backstory with Kuina is already enough of a backstory. The adventure will be history
I just like how Mihawk grins when Luffy boldly declares his goal to be Pirate King, he can see even now that Luffy has the potential to go the distance.
Who comes here to watch it again after the netflix adaptation? I missed this scene in the live action!

The moment he raised his sword to the heavens and swore never to lose again till he meets Mihawk... I cried.
Can’t believe sanji didn’t record zoro crying and laughed at him later 😂

Additionally sanjis farewell was also trash they ruined all the iconic moments

"If I didn't become greatest swordsman you'll be troubled"
Zoro didn't forget what Luffy's said..
The moment when zoro says pirate king!!! Damn the chills
Zoro respect towards Luffy is the highest of all of the crew
For man to put his pride out there in tears truly shows his feelings towards his ambition
One of the moments that got me into the show, saw it on TV the first time, I had shivers and chills, Zoro is cool af.

Every time i go emotional with zoro tears 😭😭😭😭
This was the moment I realised that this show is gonna be legendary and its worth every amount if my time.

My favorite moment of this scene is 1:21 Always gives me chills the way Luffy says “PIRATE KING!”
Yeah, I thought I'm only one. Also when Mihawk saw in Zoro huge potential he immediately asked his captain about his goals. And hearing "Pirate king" he kinda convinced that this may not be a simple crew.
I like how in the Live Action series, he finally says that he's Luffy's first mate.

East Blue is the weakest ocean. That was said many times in manga. Devil fruits are rare in other places as well. Like Skypea and Amazon Island. But obviously that eas the first adventure out of sea and Oda didnt have showed any other devil fruit character.
