I think it's like respecting other person. I remember how I once gave chocolate to homeless man (with other food of course). He asked me why I did that. "I thought anybody could buy you food, but no one would give you a chocolate". He started to cry and we spend some time just talking about stuff 😊

@@funichigo Well every character needs their flaws, the StrawHats are for the most part selfish people, it's befitting One Piece as a whole that Sanji never gives up his own convictions.
As a teacher, whenever I hear kids say "We have nothing to eat at home" I make it an effort to stop by and cook them and the rest of their family a filling meal. As someone that's grown up in a house full of food, it's a good habit to learn to share what you've been blessed with. Educators don't just have a job at spending 55 minutes in a classroom with kids. We have a career to show to kids that we care to help them whenever they need it. As someone that needed help at their age and received it, those kids deserve the same love I did.
This was really touching, that's very generous of you. But I'm a bit disturbed by the fact that you want to cook the rest of the family as a filling meal. Sheesh 😬
As someone that lived with constant hunger. This scene hit me so hard knowing this guy's happiness finally eating a good meal. Ive watched this almost 40 times and it still gets me.
I know how it feels. Growing up in motels and the likes, had to practically search around the city for food banks and churches that were doing food drives. Alot of which had canned stuff that were old from sitting in pantries and sometimes may get something nicer, but only if you got in early before the homeless cleaned the place. I just finished cooking up the last bit of food I've got in my fridge awhile back today, and despite it being a mishmash of things, I scarfed down every last piece like it was a 5 star course meal.
This arc will always be one of my favourite One Piece ones. This scene really shows what makes Sanji who he is and that's his compassion and kindness. The guy nearly died from starvation so he can't knowingly allow someone he could save to continue suffering through the same ordeal he did as a kid.
I think my favorite part of this scene is that this act of kindness by sanji was enough to make luffy go, "yep, i want him to join my crew!" He didn't even tried sanji's cooking yet. Luffy's a much better judge of character than i ever thought.
He may be preverted but he never lets down a comrade nor does he allow anyone to be it friend or foe to go hungry. The pain he went through as a kid made him strong in both body and mind
I love how you can tell why Luffy wanted Sanji; he was someone who experienced immense hardships and chose not to let someone be hurt the same way. Kindness has always been a core part of Sanji's character and I love it whenever it shines through. No wonder Luffy can so warmly say "Well, that's how you are!"
Damn…even after all these years, I remember this moment clearly. It’s the moment I fell in love with One Piece. Being an American, I never faced starvation. I never once knew what it was like to go hungry, or wonder where my next meal was coming from. I didn’t know the despair and hopelessness that hunger brings, how it breaks down your pride and robs you of your dignity. But Oda-san helped me understand with this story. Sanji’s experience, and that of Gin, were heart-wrenching to watch. Because of them, I appreciate everything I have more than I did before. And I have compassion for those without. This is more than a mere anime. It helped me be a better person, and to understand human suffering in a way I simply couldn’t before. Thank you, so much.
I feel that. I think Sanji's past with Zeff on that Island was one of the major reasons why I absolutely hate wasting food/drink. I make it a point to eat/drink everything even if I'm full or the food tastes bad or I don't like it. The only times I throw it away is when it tastes absolutely disgusting (like so bad, I can't even force myself to eat it) or eating it would be bad for me (as in the food is already rotting and stuff).
Sanji was the main reason why I took up culinary. He was one of the inspirations in my life and I thank Oda-sensei for creating him. One piece will always have a piece in my heart.
Hmm, I guess I usually associate pre timeskip sanji more with generosity because he's had more moments like that back in the days. After the timeskip the situations he is put in seem to revolve more around breasts. I hope with this arc we'll see more admirable moments of his.
Im depressed and ive grown numb to my emotions... but watching this lit a bit of my old passion and reminded me what food and cooking has done for me... Thank you to whoever posted this video. Sanji made me respect food in general, idc if it's a grain of rice, a pea, or leftover sauce, enjoy every piece of food on your plate, and be thankful for what you eat.
Very good scene, from beginning to end. Makes you rethink about how many good people and orgullo look like garbage, this is because of the bad fate to have some end up being bandits. but understand what living for a better tomorrow, as in the case of Gin. Then you realize that there is no bad people. It is the unfortunate fate that corrupts a man. the truth makes me sad when I think about it, and for this reason this episode made me cry.
@@quinnfletcher3906 for the nobles it's quite the opposite instead of being turned to crime by having nothing, the celestrial dragons have been corrupted by their wealth and have lost their humanity
This is something I adore about One Piece is philosophy. Scenes that stuck out to me were this, Dr Hiriluks speech about when a man dies, Saul telling Robin that no one is born to be alone, Tom reminding Franky that you should love your creations and family, the list goes on and on. And they all fall under the umbrella of One Pieces biggest philosophy of inherited will. Such great storytelling
I found it much more powerful in the manga. Once Sanji lays the plate in front of Gin he doesn’t even hesitate. He completely drops the tough guy facade and immediately breaks down in tears. Really drives home how how hard it is to remain strong when faced with starvation.
While that is more realistic, I liked this one better. A series that is about pirate’s pride tends to educate us there are few things more important than that, like FOOD.
@@gamma9141 I still think the manga version did a better job of illustrating what Sanji stood for and why he holds the need for nourishment in such high regard.
Looking back at the pre-time skip is so trippy. Everything looks so normal meanwhile the other side of their gigantic planet is a super strange world with island busting monster humans.
This is what I love about Sanji’s character. Sure Law and Robin probably had it worse with losing their enitre hometown plus more. What’s different about Sanji’s past though is it really brings a realism aspect to the show where many viewers can relate. Not only with the starvation but with his abusive family as well. In reality, more people then we realize may endure abuse and starvation behind closed doors and Sanji can really symbolize this issue.
Even before the abusive family part, just the idea of starving oneself while trying to be kind to others and hiding your own trauma is relatable. So many people have mental health disorders and starve themselves either because they can't get food, because they don't want to burden others, because they love others, (because they hate their own bodies), etc that this story hits home. The abusive family part comes 700 episodes later which is an additional layer on top of his relatableness. But Nami too is also someone relatable- someone who grew up poor, knowing love only to have it stripped away for being poor, trying to get rich for the sake of the people around them. Arlong Park flashbacks really hit hard. Chopper and Robin's hit hard too for feeling like you can't trust the people around you, but Law's... idk. I just can't relate to it. It's redundant to Chopper and Robin's and feels traumatic for the sake of being traumatic. I can't relate to being outcasted because people around me are terrified of me.
This is why I love the straw hats. Luffy has come across so many good and bad people in his travels, but Sanji earned his spot by recognizing just how cruel the world can be and bringing in some kindness to help a stranger get by.
I was a edgy 15 yrs old kid, but Sanji makes me see kindness as something badass and cool, bc u must to be so brave for know how be really kind with ppl. Im 26 yrs old now and i spending my life in kitchens since my 17's. Sanji its like Jesús for me.
Man this is why I love Sanji. Best character for me from the straw hats. Big heart Sanji Also glad Gin accepted the food from Sanji and also enjoying it while crying and living another day like damn, the emotions of this ep 😭.
Growin up poor and with one parent that works a lot always makes you appreciate what you have. I remember one time after helping my uncle do some laboring job he was working on the whole day. The food we had was some cheap stuff that was cold since we worked all day and how awful it tasted. Me, being very young and naive at the time, said “This is awful, how can you eat this, Uncle?” And I swear I’ll never forget those words he said to me that day “Guess you aren’t hungry enough, son”. As I grew up and left home at an early age and paid bills while going to school and still working made me appreciate the lil things that I had and specially food. No one should starve, it’s sad knowing that there are people out there who always have it worse than you, that’s why you shouldn’t take things for granted. Specially food or family.
Finished watching all the episodes of One Piece so far and, damn Sanji is just kind. Not the simple kindness of helping someone, but a pure genuine kind soul.
It's been well over a decade and a half but my grandpa who is a WW2 survivor from the Philippines uses to watch one piece with me. And he just held me tight and said this is what aman should aspire to be. To help someone in need should be how we all should be. (IMNH) you should remember that to eat is to live.
it's still sad that sanji's kindness was repaid with Gin's betrayal. idk what the guy was thinking would happen after leading his whole crew to the restaurant
They should do something with that starving guy. Should make him appear in the new world or with them and like start serving them. See how he is changed now and stuff. Got a tear from this, college life is hard.
If college life is hard, wait and see how it is after... Enjoy every moment mate, even hard times are good lessons and make you appreciate things. Oh, and try to eat well :p

I love how sanji sits down with him instead of just giving the food and walking away, it really shows how sanji understands.
Well i's not like he had to eat a leg or anything.

As someone that needed help at their age and received it, those kids deserve the same love I did.
thats so touching and speaks so much to your character.
Sanji would be proud
But seriously, thank you for doing this. Some people, or even most might not have done anything.

I'm really glad a lot of One Piece fans embody the Straw Hats' values.. May you be blessed more throughout your lifetime.

Yep, even now in Christmas eve still remember Sanji stance.

Thank you so much for sharing this heartwarming comment with us! Love from Myanmar.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts
I didnt eat for A day and felt like was gonna die Its worse than you think and thats how i became more compassionate
As Sirius Black would say, “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”

Sanji made me appreciate food as a kid and as an adult, it makes me want to save every bite
Sanji's backstory made me tear up. I remember when I was a kid, we were poor. I hadn't eaten for two days. Finally I ate when I was at uncle's house
I'm glad you're okay now. Hard times are not anymore with you. 😊
This was such a great character introduction for Sanji.
i watched this scene when i was 8 yo. Since then i always feels bad when seing wasted food. Thx oda for the message.
The very moment of feeling and vibe that can only found in those days

That line really was chilling but eye opening, thank you for sharing the experience brother.
