I have to give RDR-2 credit for sparking new interest in the "Wild West" history and cultural mythos in America among folks who'd otherwise never give "two figs" for a very interesting period of the nation's transformation into a more industrialized place.

You mean, health, or day to day? Vet care wasn't exactly done by one guy like it is now. Lol so could be a long and somewhat complicated video. :) And some of the cures aren't exactly for the faint of heart.
Can't tell ya how many times I've used lard or peroxide to cure various hoof problems, or my Jack knife to Lance various growths over the years with horses.
Red Dead Redemption reminds me of my dad. We're not Americans and we live in the south east asia region but growing up my dad very much admires the lifestyle of cowboys and even country music. He even bought himself a pair of cowboy boots, hat and a few buckles! I even watch your videos with him!

One of the old timers at the shooting range I always see ended up going out and buying a xbox 1 and red dead redemption 2 . It was the 1st video game he'd ever played outside of an arcade He said he gets into trouble with his wife for playing get too much and not letting her watch her TV shows.
Ive actually heard that from alot of folks, seems like while the wild west theme is getting younger folks interested it seems to be bringing in old folks to, id be willing to bet alot are the types that grew up on westerns.
Its awsome to see though! video games are a great medium of entertainment and i think its awsome the older generations are discovering that

The first Red Dead Redemption was such an amazing game, I had no clue how Rockstar Games could possibly follow it up... yet they sure as hell did! RDR2 is a masterpiece! Such a great game to take in slow and just absorb as you mosey across the land.
(It also led me to subscribe to your channel! Excellent work you do! As somebody who's lived in the American Southwest my entire life, it's a great look into the local history! Bravo!)

It's close enough for many...look at all the inaccuracies in some of the most popular Westerns. Rdr1 and 2 are some of the best western and western games around. Great vids Pard...keep em com'n !

Fun fact: Whenever there is a MAJOR tragedy or change in land ownership there will always be some confusion going on regarding who owns what. This is what leads to swindlers to come in and take advantage of the situation. It gives them opportunity to strike. This means there is a strong likelihood some of these carpetbaggers were around doing the same thing to people that were living on the lands after the Mexican territories annexation in the Mexican-American war before the Civil War. The war with Mexico was not too long ago when the Civil war happened.

The civil war vagrants didn’t stand out to me at first until it hit me that this year was 1899. I did the math and realized that at least 40 years had passed at that point. I’m glad y’all covered this! By the way 1899 was the year my great grandmother was born. Me being born in 1977, I was lucky to have known her until her death in 1998. Because of the game I was able to get an idea of how life was for her as she lived in Texas at this time. Being a daughter of Czech immigrants she had a bit of an accent.

I had barely played the PlayStation before rdr2 came out and I had the exact same experience of trying to figure out where obscure buttons are so I'm glad I wasn't the only one

I was always interested in the old west, but your first "Did they get it right" video popped up in trending and me being the historian I am decided to click on it. Now I get to know the little facts that history teachers skim over or didn't find necessary to teach. I thank you all for making these videos.

Holy crap Santee - subscriptions ARE way up! I'm not a gamer but Red Dead redemption is popular with the heavy metal musicians and bikers my youngest daughter hangs with. It is also popular with a lot of my teenage students. She says it is causing a lot of young people to look at revolvers again. Maybe so. A younger guy in his 30's behind a gun counter was telling me he was considering carrying a Ruger Bisley for CWP in a cross draw. Regardless - congratulations on your subscription rise.

Heavy metal aint touchin rdr2. I am for sure, i love the game, but like other metal heads seem to go in for world war 1 and viking era. Just sharin what I know from my vantage in the metal community. I could be wrong

Same as a lot of other new subs, rdr2 introduced me to you guys. Then i fell into a spiral of watching as many of your guys’ videos as possible.... and I’m currently pricing Schofield revolvers so I can learn to QuickDraw
Tough gun to quick draw with because of the hammer placement. But you can do it with practice.
I absolutely love these videos! I hope to see more Red Dead related content (guns, gear, horses, etc.)

exploring,hunting and shoot outs,fun. gang missions,unprofitable,pointless,never did so much cussing at a game,but,it did remind me why i was not cut out to be no Jesse James.lot of people like this game.will have to play more to see why.but the graphics are awesome and i like the different outfits and horses to choose from.keep up the good work.

I still remember when my grandpa showed me my first western it was pat garet and Billy the kid and just like that I feel in love with the genre . I haven't been a gamer for over 10 years, but Red Dead 2 pulled me back in. The scenery is gorgeous in the game. I have spent hours just walking around town or in the countryside and looking around.

Well, I'm glad you're getting more attention because of the game, but I can proudly say I started to binge on this channel without video games. My dad raised me on the old cowboy movies, and I watched all the Eastwood ones etc...in my earlier days.

@@ArizonaGhostriders while I have your attention for a second, Santee could you do a video on how people survived illnesses and infections since there were no antibiotics? I have a sinus infection at the moment and am taking antibiotics. I probably would've died back then I suppose.
@@jcoop3619 I can. You may not have died. Your immune system back then may have been stronger and fought it off. They had no allergy meds, or Nyquil, any of that. Their bodies had to do it all, and the buildup of dirt and germs on their bodies created a layer of immunity from certain things.

i was never super into the old west n the setting of these games wasn’t a huge selling point for me,,, but the more hours i put into RD2 the more interested i was about the time period? reading thru the internet n watching these videos actually kinda brought me back to being a kid holed up in the history section of the school library again lmao

I once read an exchange of letters from two fellows arguing the good and bad points of various firearms. It got to the point of calling each others' choices pieces of junk, or worse. As the arguing continued I learned that at least one of the debaters experience with firearms was only through computer games. Don't have much interest in computer games anymore.
