Opeth has had a hold over me for the last 2 years and I still can't fully wrap my head around Bleak. Any Opeth fan knows it's incredibly hard to choose a favorite song, but there's always been something so RIGHT about the composition of this one. The guitar parts, however many they are, just flow so perfectly from one section to the next. And that bridge before the final chorus? Oh my God, how is there so much going on and it all sounds so...unified? It's like there's only one instrument being played, and it is creating all of those sounds all at once.

This album stands out in Opeth discography, because it was not only produced by Steven Wilson, but also mixed by him (he mixed only this album). Blackwater Park is the most full and dynamic sounding album of Opeth. The level of detail put by Wilson is astounding. In my opinion, in a song/album, composition is only 50%, producing/mixing/mastering is the other 50%.
I really wish they would remaster orchid through MAYH. Especially morningrise and MAYH because those are masterpiece albums that suffer from mixing and production. Also Ghost of Perdition is pretty well mixed and produced and can hold its own with Blackwater park, but I get what you are saying.
that is my part. its like they take you to this journey and then paused, to give you time to collect yourself and prime you for enjoyment of that riff.

You know a band is good when in every single comment section people are timestamping their favourite riff/breakdown/moment...
And every timestamp is different.
Mine's 8:24.
Hell yeah
Mine is 3:23
5:22 baby
Mine is 8:24 as well, I just wish it was a bit longer!
Is your picture a messed up Gojira magma logo??
Steven Wilson!
Mikael and Steven is my favorite bromance in all of music.
"This is all you need"
yes, indeed.
5:21 is incredibly beautiful.
5:19 silence and great melody kicks in.
that is my part. its like they take you to this journey and then paused, to give you time to collect yourself and prime you for enjoyment of that riff.
3:10 this transition makes me close my DAW every time because I don't think I will ever be able to make anything even close to this
Back here after many years. Does a song make you guys want to cry because of just how good it is?
6:00 - 007 theme as played by Opeth
OMG! I would never ever catch that. Mikhael truly mastered the age old art of "nicking stuff" from the music out there and making it his own.
That's funny you would say that dude because for some reason the course in the leopard affinity totally reminds me of 007 from N64That's funny you would say that dude because for some reason the first Instrumental chorus Right after the 1st verse in the leopard affinity totally reminds me of 007 from N64
@@cahit3366 its a very common chord progression, hey bulldog, hangar 18, the call of ktulu all use it
How lucky to live in a time when this transporting beauty is only ever a couple of clicks away.
I still remember my first time listen to this song, when 12 string acoustic intro Drop.
I literally said "Holy Jesus, WTH is that ???"
That was the moment, I fell into Opeth's rabbit hole
This is for me the best opeth song for long , this was mi first opeth song i ever heard and i get so impresed , i have a nostalgia with moments then don't even exist
Been listening Opeth for four straight years, love this masterpiece
Words can't even describe how fucking amazing this song is!
3:15 that riff hits me everytime
Dude me too, so good
Thats right!
Love this song, one of their best songs for sure.
The dynamics on the guitars are absolutely incredible! It really creates a dark atmosphere which I really enjoy! Any more songs like this one?
Dirge For November Is really good.
Just listen to the whole album.
@@toprak3479 I have since listened to all of their albums and this is now my favourite band of all time.
@@jcdenton616 BIIIIIIG
@@jcdenton616 I own all 13 albums. I started on my Opeth journey with ghost of perdition and a few songs from sorceress album. Eventually sometime passed and I was exposed to burden and to bid you farewell and finally face of Melinda and I knew I had to pick up all their albums. And here we are almost two years later and I’m a fanatic. Number one band for me and it’s not even close.
05:57 to 08:22 i bet even mozart & wagner would dig that insane section. Only the blessed can even divine such a melody from the unconscious.
I fell in love with this part 6:40
One of my favorite songs ever
Dearest Opeth, ...my favorite one on this record. I blast it when given the chance. Thank you. ❤️🕊🕯✨🐾🌎🐾💫🕯🕊❤️
6:00 Is such a hard riff in where I cant stop headbanging
Favorite Opeth song.
Opeth & Steven Wilson
Steve Wilson is bae
Outstanding.
THIS TRACK IS BRILLIANT LIKE EVERY OPETH TRACK
6:00 that transition is my favourite🖤
Hey it’s me lmao. From Facebook.
Same :3
3:25 those vocals are great by the great the mr.wilson
Opeth is so good. I'm bored of thrash and death metal. Wow this is some real good shit🤘🤘.
Opeth are Death Metal.
@@metalheadwrestling5928 yeah but they aren't straight up blast beat type. Also they aren't death metal anymore.
@@metalheadwrestling5928 They were Progressive Death Metal till Watershed. Now they are a Progressive Rock band
@@javierfonte316 but they have had some pretty prog metal moments after Heritage. Not Death metal obviously. But leaning on to more classic hard rock/heavy metal.
@@shailendraahangama3627 After Watershed they are more Prog Rock than Metal
Easily my favourite Opeth song. Like I love so many but this one has always been unmatched, especially when following up Leper Affinity and leading into Harvest, I mean come on!
bleak is definetly one of my fav too
right behind the trio that are the first 3 tracks of Ghost reveries
@@GVLSCH Ghost Reveries is amazing start to finish and those first three tracks are a testament to the quality of the album
@@nathyngoss3132 oh definetly
Imo its opeths best work
@@GVLSCH I used to feel the same but BP and Morningrise have overtaken it for me. Solid choice though, 10/10 album for sure
@@nathyngoss3132 tbh all of pre watershed is 10/10 for me
Very consistent lineup of albums
First time listening to opeth and they are amazing
They truly are. Listen to the album "Still Life" it will blow your mind!
Welcome to the mist!
Such a masterpiece!!!
The ending 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you Opeth for this beauty.
First song I’ve heard from these guys and I’m hooked
It's amazing how Åkerfeldt can use her voice so variably
You spelled the last name right. How’d you end up typing “her”? Dude has had one of the most pronounced mustaches for like ever.
One of my favourites of all time. Nothing compares to this
After so many years, i still have tears in my eyes when i listen to this song. I mean i literally cried when i witness this song live
What songs do y’all Opeth fans suggest?
I’ve only listened to this, Leper Affinity and Ghost of Perdition.
I love Mikeal’s screaming so that is my preference.
