What about playing Trent as an inverted left back similar to how Pep utilized Cancelo? Not like Southgate has the tactical nous to make an adjustment like that though.

I don't think TAA was the worst player in the second game and in fact he set up Saka just before he got taken off.
After TAA was taken off in both games, there was little to no improvement in the quality of the England team performance.

It amazes me how some people cannot understand that playing a player out of position is such an important area is bound to have a detrimental affect.

Gallagher made zero improvement in any of the games he played. England had their best spells (where they have even managed to score goals) in the games that TAA started which was against the two better teams in the group.
Tonight it took us 30 minutes to have a shot. Your beloved Gallagher of course was taken off at half time.
However, I am not having a go at Gallagher, the problem seems to be a wider problem with how the team is set up as very few of the players are performing anything like how they should.
In conclusion, I am not sure what point you're trying to make as even without TAA England have been poor.

It baffles me that no manager has ever tried 2 working midfielders in midfield with trent given the free roaming role that KBD has.
2 guys who are disciplined, solid, out and out midfielders that control the game. They do the proper central midfield job in the tight/congested area's that trent isn't great at. That then gives Trent the freedom to find space and do what he's best at, hurting teams with his range of passing!
He can not be suppressed to a defensive job. WHY on earth has no manager ever figured out that his strengths are in ATTACK??!!
Imagine for a second that KDB had to play right back or CDM? Imagine the criticism he'd get for his defending? Imagine how much it would take away from his match winning performances if he was having to concentrate mostly on defending for fear of being slaughtered in the media?!
I honestly believe that given a free role with the stability behind him, he's a world beater. Just give him the KDB role ffs🤣. I'd put my house on it that a coach like Guardiola would have him there to replace de bruyne when he moves on.

The same profile in terms of from RB to DM and Trent's numbers aren't only comparable but better in many areas, including successful tackles%, which I'd have never expected. Speaking of, where exactly did he develop his skills on the ball and vision? Oh by playing in midfield during most of his academy time. Mad.
So his pass completion% is purely a function of how often he's trying high risk long/med passes. You're comparing him to players who only play short passes. He's never going to have those numbers but it's not that *can't* but that he has wanted to be used by Klopp in this way. Effectively, Liverpool have really been playing a 3-4-3 since he came in the team given his heatmap.
The narrative needs to die because it's John Barnes all over again, but worse given what Trent has won at the highest level.

Well if Trent is playing the role of scapegoat, he's not a very good actor. Fortunately Gallagher has snatched the role from him. The minutes of Trent and Palmer on the right were the only bits of England's performance that would worry France and Germany.
Walker on the left, Trent on the right? Someone in the England camp watched this video...... Southgate should start the team that finished. England's moment of the tournament so far was Trent's straight pass into Palmer's diagonal run. Should have been a goal and would have been if Watkins had been on the pitch.

Trent belongs in the old fashioned right midfield (DAVID BECKHAM) position with the rightback behind him. This does not exist in the modern game.
Southgate is really a sly man, played Trent in the midfield which I initially was excited about, but in the worst position to get the best out of him. AS A HOLDING DM WTF??

@@sitaylor well he was a right back who didn't invert, now he's a right back who inverts into midfield, so the idea of him being a deep lying playmaker in midfield isn't a huge stretch. Players have changed positions before.
I like that experiment but would rather have szobo on the left instead of Gakpo. Also a new CDM to play on the right side of the double pivot with alexis on the left of the pivot

Southgate is a mid table Championship manager at best. I'm not surprised he has no idea how to use one of the most elite most unique players in the world, or the rest of the team for that matter.

Southgate doesn’t play attacking football so there is no point of Trent in his team. TAA is weak defensively and Southgate is looking for a KP replacement which doesn’t make any sense why he chose TAA to play next to Rice. His off the ball work isn’t very good and like you said he loses the ball a lot. Just play him as FB/inverted and have some hendo like protection or not at all. TAA himself needs to go work on his defensive frailties.
Dropping Trent has really helped hasn’t it 🙄 really improved the result tonight.
