I lost one of my Great Pyrenees to heat stroke while chasing a coyote......it was at dusk but the humidity and heat was still intense. Cooper, my Pyrenees , jumped through the gap in my field gate. I’ve since covered that gap in my gate. Ask your vet..but you can quickly cool Mojo off by applying rubbing alcohol to his pads and inside his ear flaps. Stay safe!

My other Pyrenees works at night patrolling the property and he only goes out when the temps have dropped dramatically..the other Pyrenees is now retired at 12 years of age. She’s now transitioned into a. House pet.....she was a mighty warrior in her day!
I once had a dog that had such a high temperature that he just poured the whole bottle of alcohol on her back!
She was all right, had to leave her overnight at the vet though. Never did find out what happened or
what caused her to vomit then the high fever but the next day she was just fine.
Heat, specifically humidity, really is no joke! Sorry you lost 'em..Guard breeds absolutely will risk their lives to protect what's theirs, they're such amazing dogs with huge drive and extreme loyalty
@@testerwulf3357 yep. My two Pyrenees come in during the day and sleep in the A/c. My herding dogs go out to do their business but come rt back in during the summer months.

Yesterday is first time I’ve seen a picture of Leonberger. Pretty cool!
Big dogs can be fast but their size makes them less nimble. A coyote or fox can turn quickly and the dog will run by in a much wider turn. My cane corso could out run a whippet but could rarely catch it because of the whippet's agility at speed. My dog definitely went into beast mode if he saw or smelled a fox.

@@brianhillis3701 Most of the time catching the thing isn't an issue, they're mostly supposed to drive stuff off and keep threats at bay; as long as they can chase the thing off scaring it from the livestock it's perfect, livestock can't be hurt if the predators can't close dead or alive

I had a friend with beautiful male Pyr.. (I also had a pyr, a female) he was the foundation of her breeding kennel. She lived rural of course, and was outside washing her car. A doberman that lived across the road escaped, and came straight at Carol.. the Pyr was sleeping on the porch, but he was off that spot like lightning! Slammed into the dobe at full gallop, put it on its back and bit its throat..and killed it! This was not he first time that doberman had threatened people. They look and act so chill most of the time, but man oh man.. don't come at their flock! Atta boy Mojo!! Much love and respect big guy! ❤❤❤
We had a Boxer cross I found locked in a phone booth at about 8 weeks. When she was 3, she saved my also 3 year old son from a GSD and a Labrador. They belonged to a neighbor, but were on our property and stalking our son. She ran 'through' the one closest to him and sent that dog rolling then took the other one down by the throat.

I sure as heck would run like heck if Mojo were running after me, haha! The crazy thing was, as fast as Mojo was moving it seemed as if he were just kind of jogging. I am willing to bet he was only on speed 7 out of 10. Way to go, Mojo, Kora & Leeske - job well done pups!

Yes he didn't look like he had hit high gear yet but closed the distance and had the angle. the coyote would have been in deep dodo if he was inside the fence. Looked like Mojo would have caught it just passed the gate. Big dog jogging was going faster than coyote running. Skeeter is like a brother to the chickens chases them, but would fight anything else that that would harm them.

Mojo is a classic pyr. I’ve had many, the reason he stays on that porch is because he’s guarding the house. They are known for protection of the family.
I can’t figure out, for the life of me, why these coyotes are coming out in the daytime! Thank God for the LGDs and the Google cams!

Coyotes aren't necessarily nocturnal. In general, they may hunt more at night especially in places where being exposed can get them shot at more easily during the day, but they are pretty opportunistic. In a rural setting, they may be more active during the day than they would be in more populated areas, but then again, if they get used to the activity around them, they even move about pretty freely during the day in more urban areas. Right now they are raising their growing pups so they need more food. It is concerning that they seem to be unfazed by the fact that an adult human was present, and they came that close. That could be a problem. I've seen different reports of coyotes attacking humans and their pets more often lately. It's becoming more common in urban areas with coyotes, and it's noteworthy because some of these cities didn't have coyotes present years ago.
Coyotes that have pups to feed will often come out in broad daylight. I saw several across the course of a week, all out around noon and coming right up to the doors of our business complex.
Because usually great pyrenees sleep/rest during the day and do their guard work at night.the coyotes know the day is their best bet.
housing plans are taking over their homes, so they’re gonna be out more. Just like seeing a lot of deer, we’re taking over their lively hood 😢

Just as a suggestion? I’m a groomer and a lot of my clients have LPD’S , and bring them in when it gets sweltering in the Santa Ynez Valley and we shave out their bellies underneath to their chests so they are cooler. Dogs sweat through their feet and panting but shaving their coats underneath helps cool them off when they lie down… they are Pyrs, Anatolians, and even some herding working dogs, several Bouviers too… your dogs are awesome!! Please consider getting an other dog, helper for MOJO to train. Makes no difference male or female. Just back up for him. They have 2 other guard dogs who were protecting the livestock
They need German Shepherds. I have 4 GSD's. My 4 would have flew over that fence and caught those Yotes and destroyed them. German Shepherds much faster and brutal.
@@trajan6927 They don't want their dogs leaving the yard and over the fence, dangerous for them. They ward off predators not destroy them; they own firearms to take care of threats themselves where they can. The breeds they have absolutely could destroy a coyote no doubt but they'd rather their dogs stay in the fence and not run around outside their property..which is probably best as these breeds can be too determined, if you let them chase the coyote outside the fence they may chase it far which in hot weather isn't good for the dogs

My nephew's G.P. Apollo is the same size as Mojo and very loving and protective of what he considers his and tolerates the rest of us unless your giving back scratches, LOL. He does the same, mainly naps during the day with a few perimeter walks but at night he's on full guard duty, wide awake and ready for action. G.P.'s are far from lazy [don't let their size fool you] and those that haven't been around the breed or around them long enough to see how they are they'd in for a big surprise. Mojo, Leeski, and Miss Cora all deserve a steak for a job well done, Mr. Skeeter too [he may be small but he'd be right in the action given the chance].

My relatives have a Great Pyrenees and they love to camp in rustic sites. Last months a black bear came close to their camp. Oh no, that dog chased it right away. They seem so chill but when action is needed to protect what is theirs, god help the intruder. They are amazing dogs.

Awesome job Mojo, Leeske and Cora! It’s crazy how bold and brave those coyotes are getting to be hunting in broad daylight especially with it being so hot and humid there.
They literally live next door to the coyotes home.. keyword “woods”. I’ve seen black bears coming out of the woods into our farming fields. We don’t over react. We make sure dogs are put away and watch from a distance to enjoy the beautiful animals. 🙄
I live in COMMIEfornia and I've been seeing a lot of coyotes, during the day too. They were hunting my old kitty for about 2 weeks, all the kitties outside too, the ones that live around here.
Good boy Mojo, big dogs can hustle I have a 95lb woolly Siberian Husky loves to lounge in the shade while I garden but will go from 0 to 100 when protecting me from a chipmunk or bird lol but lately coyotes have been seen in my subdivision so I’m protected.
Had to chuckle at Rachel’s distinction between the “public” and the “private” pools. Great teamwork of the dogs. Shaved dogs can get sunburned.

Watching this video lifted my spirits a little because I just lost one of my cat's Jerry the 7th tonight at 7:45 to unknown causes. May have been a heart attack because he's one of three born to a brother and sister and one of his brothers died a year ago on June 22. There's only one left out of the three orange/white tabby's. On a lighter note, I did get to witness two out of the three being born which took 50 minutes and I believe they were Jerry the 8th and 9th. I missed the first one being born by about a minute. I will miss him dearly. He was born on August 19, 2017 just short of his 5th birthday.

Go MOJO!!!This happened to us last week when we were watering the goats in the afternoon!. A coyote came close to our pasture where the goats were grazing. We have several young goat kids and they don't always stay real close to their moms so we stay watchful. I heard that the coyotes are bringing their young out of the dens teaching them how to hunt and that's why we're seeing them in the daytime.

Mojo is such a good dog! Have you tried hanging a coyote on a tree or something outside the fence? It's an old wise tale and I see it all the time here, just not sure how true it is. One ranch near me has over 10 hanging on the fence. All got in one night. Way to go pups! Love the emus, wow have they grown!

Mojo is precious I just love him..He is a good dog..If he had caught that coyote it would be history....He is not lazy he can run when he wants to...when it's necessary...He is a great protector.. Rachel noticed the coyotes first, at least on the Nest cam,, so maybe a little something special for her too. You have great dogs. So alert and so brave. So, just curious, did the treatment for the mites work? I don't notice them scratching as much. I hope it worked, especially on the couple goats that were losing their hair. I'm glad that no animals got hurt in the filming of this video, lol. Mojo can really move it, move it when he needs to. I hope Mojo and the Emus make use of those pools.

You can make him Pupperoni popsicles using chicken broth and chopped Pupperoni pieces then freezing it in small paper Dixie cups. I really do understand your coyote problem. My new neighbors thought the howling was charming when they first moved in. (City Folks, nice but very uneducated about coyotes).After losing their sheep, chickens and peacocks! to the coyotes, they are not as thrilled. Coyotes breed fast, 4 to 6 pups every spring and sometimes more! Come summer they are teaching pups to hunt and they learn fast that livestock is easy pickens! The smartest ones stay away from guns, but they also are the breeders. Very Frustrating. They don't stay away like crows do but the young and stupid ones keep coming.
I told my neighbors one night, to tell their GSD pup to stop chatting with the coyotes in the field across from our neighborhood/ dirt rd. I told her, she is too young to be having parties and those are not the fun party type of pups. She was a little over one at that time.
I'm so thankful they do not come our way. They prefer to roam the thicker woods and stay by the live stock houses.

I just barely found y'all and I'm so glad! Love the dogs! We had a big guy who's body shape and weight and temperament were closely matched with Mojo's! He was a mix so I can't be sure what all he had. We miss him so much! He and the boxers took out a coyote one night and not too much later, a bobcat! We don't live on a farm, just in the country. We were so impressed with them! Didn't expect they'd even have to do that. Sorry, I digress. I am really really enjoying your videos! Great job guys! 🥰💖
