I usually charge a 2h minimum. But it really depends on who I'm doing the job for and how far I have to drive. If it is a few small jobs for the same customer on the same day I just charge hourly. The whole time I am there.

Yea man the decision between being fully independent or contracting to a company is always a tough one. I jump back and forth. But this summer I have been flat out, being fully independent. But I always seem to have more money in my pocket while contracting to someone. But always seem to be happier, being independent. So I guess it's nice to have the option. Because when its slow its slow. And when it rains it pours. So you get it while you can.

I have the same problem with most of the aluminum jobs I get. On occasion someone will bring me two pieces of clean aluminum to weld on. Usually though it’s nasty worn out stuff. Like the one was an aluminum dump box on a quad axle dump truck used to haul anything and everything from the quarries. You spend 20 minutes cleaning a spot that’s going to get a 3 inch weld and it’s still not clean enough. That stuff just absorbs all the grease and dust from the stone. It’s eye opening though because now I started actually looking at them aluminum boxes and mostly all of em are cracked in multiple places if the trucks are actually being used.
