When I first started recording people landing and taking off at spaceports I thought it might be boring as there would not be much to look at. Instead however, every time I've fired up my recordings you all never fail to entertain me showing off your skills... or lack of skills in some cases XD. Either way, it is all in good fun!
Who do you think had the best takeoff or landing this time? Let me know below! Also, let me know where you think I should camp out next!
Enjoy, see you all in the next one. o7

I hope they eventually redo the spaceport layouts so that most, if not all, of the hangar entrances are easily visible from a lobby, restaurant, etc. I think it would help build the immersion for players to see others flying in and out.
Plane watching used to be a favorite pastime when traveling by air. Unfortunately, most of the airports I use these days have very poor views of the runways.

The ship dealer and terminal lobby at Lorville do overlook the hangars. At ArcCorp Area 18 the terminal lobby also overlooks some of the hangars. At NBIS the windows at the terminal overlook the rail line coming in and you can see ships approaching and leaving the hangars. At Orison you can see the ships come and go from different spots. And the big lobby window at some of the space stations has a view of some of the hangars.

For me one of the joys of Star Citizen is making that perfect cinematic take off or landing, I am always secretly wishing there is someone like you watching and appreciating the art and holding up score cards!
One of wishlists items would be the ability to display a cinematic replay in third person view of the last few minutes of gameplay so I could score myself!

I agree with you 100% on the horizontal hangers don't get why they don't put them into the game they are way easier to land in and aesthetically they look a lot better in takeoff and Landing😊 also I hate when people don't use Vtol on their ships that have they

    • @explorer47422
      @explorer47422 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Why would they use vtol? Mechanically for many ships it's nothing more than an aesthetic thing, which is a shame. The same reason why you wouldn't just tilt onto your tail and launch like a rocket from the landing pad. It's a shame SC doesn't have proper landing it takeoff mechanics that make it more skill based. They tried with the 'helicopter mode' flight control but so many complained they just removed it instead of even trying to iterate on it. I wonder if they'd ever re-introduce a landing mode since they're doing a bunch of pilot modes currently.

We need gravity )) ship just hangin there nose down, look and feel terrible. It will be much better if you HAD to be bottom down to hover at big planets.
BTW, i'm really surprize that we still dont have any vertical ship. You know ones that land with main thrusters facing down and have many small decks with ladders inside. 12:21 - just imagine 5 horizontal cargo decks in upper part and 3 habi-decks in lower parts. And pilot chair in laying down on a floor facing up (so pilot can deal with extreme G's at take off)

@HybridVAudio - Watching this after pretty much 5 days straight playing, ive been doing allsorts of testing. This evening i focused on CPU optimization, and to cut an extremely long story short i may have stumbled on a fix for the hitching you experience.
By the way lovely SC youtube watchers, dont just read the first line of what im about to write and jump in your BIOS, make sure you understand :)
Testing performed @ Orison in daylight.
Settings MAX - No film grain, No chromatic aberration, motion blur camera only, FOV 116, Vsync ON
    Rendering (NIVIDA) DSR Factor 2.25 (2880 x 1620 scaled to 1920 x 1080 @ 120hz)
Image Scaling ON w/ 0% sharpening, 0% smoothing, LowLatencyMode: Ultra, GSync on, Vsync On, Max frame rate 100fps, max background 30fps.
Vulkan/OpenGL: Layered DXGI Swapchain, OpenGL GDI: Prefer Compatible.
    ----- --- -- -
While hyperthreading is enabled at a BIOS level (AUTO or ENABLED), StarCitizens "Volumetric Clouds" interact with only 1 logical processor (marked CPU1 on my system).
I think this is a purposeful restriction to reduce CPU load on what is an already CPU intensive game. Likely with push from the community for better multi threaded support (which is a good thing).
I discovered this by coming across a bug: Each time i alt+tab`d out of SC my GPU would suddenly jump from ~70% load ~50% TDP (160w) straight upto redline: 100% load 100% TDP (300w).
Which had caused a 2100mhz gpu overclock to crash a previous session. Running a power reduced GPU (80% & 1875mhz 1000mV Locked) i started reproducing the 100% loading while going through some of the NIVIDA Control Panel settings, then the in-game settings to figure out what the problem was. Each time the GPU maxed there was a 80% flat line loading on only 1 of the cpu`s 12 processors, so i knew a CPU driven process was to blame. I found it & i can explain the walk around.
(If you board already here it is: Settings: Volumetric Clouds - High) ----- --- -- - Alright see you in the verse!)
The fault 'seems' to be that the render rate for VOLUMETRIC CLOUDS is UNCONSTRAINED only when the setting is set to: VERY HIGH
However there might be a little more to it than that, the reason it manifests when i alt+tab out is because i manually constrain render rates with NCP to: 100 fps max ingame, and 30 fps when background. I have reason to believe, that based on client generated system specs at launch, SC might self limit its own FPS to 60 max for most systems. Generally ones that would only get up there while in deep space. Additionally monitor refresh rates would also impose a system wide render constraint (VSync). Last but not least is adaptive refresh rates based on render rate (GSync).
I went back and fourth and made sure it was repeatable. What was also repeatable was an instant 10fps gain at Orsion in daylight, fixed the bug and free frames whoo hoo!
But i had to know more..... So naturally i went straight to the BIOS.
Turning hyperthreading off changed my CPU utilization from: 6 core, 12 logical processors. To 6 core, 6 logical processors.
With the in-game settings the same through testing, volumetric clouds were processed by all 6 cores.
HOWEVER! for the first time ever, i heard the case fans come on full load, my 11600kf was heating up! I generally see ~46*c CPU temps (NH-U12A double fan tower), while the fan curve on the RTX GPU keeps it from thermal throttling (Set to 80*c). Surprisingly on review, the CPU/GPU game generated load had reversed.
The AORUS 3070ti Master (@the time: 2025mhz 1000mV Locked / 10kmhz memory) was at only 30% load, while the 11600KF (3.91ghz boosting 4.61ghz) was at 100% utilization on all cores (as seen in Task-Manager). MSI Detach showed 90 - 98% load rapidly spiking on all CPU cores.
This is likely the reason CIG restricted the CPU side of volumetric clouds to only 1 core, and it seems Hyper-Threading is useful.... Its perhaps an oversight that CPU requests on the GPU from that 1 processer are unconstrained while SC runs in the background, as simply the normal system traffic of playing SC, might be the reason its gone un-noticed this long.
Either way demoting the setting to HIGH seems to be a solid Fix.
    ----- --- -- -
(For those of you that are GPU bottlenecked: aka see 100% GPU usage sustained ever during play. But you have some CPU headroom available: aka your seeing

The Connie's VTOL thrusters do absolutely nothing but play a nice animation. ...and yes, I hate those top opening hangers. Especially because in the future, we'll have no advanced scanners, radar, cameras, night vision, etc.
You'll always see my gear down early - it allows you to switch to decoupled and glide in with thrusters holding a vector for you. Your ship will mostly behave as it does in zero G. Without the gear down, the ship just drops like a rock like you'd expect.
Nice fun video, keep it up!

I'm also running a startup script but I don't think it's actually working. Hit me up if you want details on the startup script. The problem turned out to be efficiency cores. Windows 11 has a more intelligent task scheduler which should help.

You can try disabling the eCores to alleviate the stuttering from the Intel 13th gen processors. I have a 12th gen and had to do that. It only happens in SC, no other games have an issue. Luckily for me I have an ASUS mobo and they have a BIOS setting that you can set to disable the eCores by pressing the scroll lock key on the keyboard. Another great video. I love to watch ships landing. I usually hang out for a little bit when I land at A18 or Lorville just to watch for ships coming in and landing.

The first week I had my Carrack, every single launch and landing was in the "medium" size hangars. During that same period, 4 or 5 flights with my A2 flew out of the large hangars. For those unfamiliar, the Carrack has maybe a meter or two of clearance on each side when perfectly centered in the medium sized hangars. The problem that comes into play is the clutter on the ground.

Gear down, while landing, can be more than aesthetic. SC has three flight modes - coupled, decoupled gear up and decoupled gear down. When landing decoupled gear down will keep ship flying in straight line to land at the point you have chosen - and this is often the method to make the smoothest landing - but your gear must be down.

  • @Baleur

37:10 most VTOLS on most ships DONT in fact function.
Even the ones you think work, like the Vulture and C2... They dont.
You can check this very easily by landing on a planet (or in zero-g), strafe up without VTOLS, measure the g-forces.
Then repeat with VTOLS, measure the g-forces. You'll see they are identical, meaning identical acceleration / thrust.
They're also the same with boost applied. So i never use the vtols because it's just pointless, they dont function apart from on very very few ships (the Cutlass, Prospector and Carrack being part of the very few, and thats why people can do VTOL turns with them in zero-g combat).

Hate landing the Carrack at Teasa. For some reason they always give us a hangar that’s literally gives clearance of inches of the rear and sides, rather than the larger hangar that’s available which would allow safe landing. The craft is on the absolute limit of the large hangar.
It actually puts me off flying that ship, at least until we get a landing computer that will provide us info on the ships position relative to the landing pad.

It's as bad as 15-20fps and small scrolls turn into big changes when it's lagging and hitching. Otherwise I'm anywhere from 30-100fps everywhere else. Orison is even 40fps for me. I was teaching a friend how to fly and when they took the pilot seat they did the roll over and i was screaming the whole time.

Too bad they didn't make the vertical hangars basically horizontal hangers just on their sides. They have the gravity tech to do it. All they would have to do is transition people back to a horizontal state before they leave the hangar.
I'm surprised they haven't implemented systems to help people land in the vertical hangars when they already had it in the game before. It's a pretty important step to the gameplay.

This is the frustrating thing about landing the Carrack. they stretched it to the max dimensions for the Large Hanger, and if the ship is not perfectly centered, it will clip on the mouth of the hanger, and then the gravity will pull the ship down and it will get stuck.

  • @dracowulfe

As regards the "pad hesitation" or delay on touchdown, the pilot could possibly be doing the old "hover above the pad" to repair/refuel. I know I've had to do it recently with the way some stations won't offer the option. It's something we used to have to do on some previous patches.

    • @MrPantheraUmbra
      @MrPantheraUmbra ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yup I still do it if I am missing a weapon. Repairing before touchdown restores missing weapon. If you land it before repairing it will just repair the ship but you will still miss a weapon.

Cig devs must do the same experience, watching how peoples actually play because each gamer are not a trained pilot.
They could increase the size of hangar to make takeoff / landing easier.

At the moment, the red best-in-show paint on the Carrack is broken. If you fly with the paint in a hangar, you can no longer control the carrack and behaves unpredictably also you can not start the carrack with the paint.
