My 2 cents is leave Scooter for the humorous stuff and be yourself for the game play stuff, but it's your channel so do what you want. We will watch them either way. EDIT: I humbly yield to the majority - Bring on Scooter!
@@UncommonGeek Considering how many changes are applied to the game, it might be relatively new. There was so much discussion about decoupled in atmo a while ago. EDIT: At least 12 months ago. - So yes, possibly very new - in Star Citizen dev time.
Been here since AC was our only way to play. Never knew this was an option. I've performed similar maneuvers manually, but I had no clue the ship would decelerate for you in that configuration. That's an awesome feature, and I really look forward to CIG coming up with a series of advanced tutorials at some point which explain things like this.
Is vector adjustment a keybind too, or how were you doing the fine tuning? Mind blown, also been playing since all we had was a hangar module! And yes, Scooter should teach a class on Brios “legitimate sales” hot drop vectored landings
WOW! Epic memory of ArcCorp. Thank You for that. I remember the ArcCorp module. I was floored when CIG finally dropped the real ArcCorp though. I’m personally in the business, and everyone where I work is just blown away by ArcCorp. It shouldn’t be possible. Yet there she is.
Great video! Another tip is you can feather spacebrake as you come in for the vector lock landing - the flight computer will thrust exactly opposite your vector when you press spacebrake, so give it a couple taps and feather your speed down to below 5m/s or so for a soft landing.
Just be careful in hangers when taking off, if decoupled, once you gear up, its the opposite of this vector mode, in an environment with gravity, so youll go from stable hover (gear down) to dropping like a rock once you bring gear up!
@@wisnuzaene So as long as your gear is down, your IFCS is online, so youll hold a stable hover w/o input (only in hangers, the wind if outside will move you laterally) and you can hover indefinately, until you run outve fuel.
I decouple when I land most of the time with Keyboard and mouse. Noticed in recent patches entering hangers the gravity has a weird effect on the speed so always keep ready for sudden changes. Its fun when you get use to it and you go in at speed, slow right down and drop the landing gear just before touch down to make that sci-fi movie landing... not as practical and can cause "stress" if something goes wrong you have no real time to act so I drop my gear before entering hangers.
This is really useful. I made the switch to HOTAS so I can fly and maneuver more smoothly but landing always felt awkward to me (I come in and hat down). I think I'll practice this since it'll handy for hot dropping people and cargo.
I just got my dual flight sticks over a month ago, really nervous about switching from m&kb so I haven't even opened them yet. Been using the excuse of "I'm waiting on my new desk", but I really need to go ahead and make the change. I had no idea vector landing was a thing. Looking forward to attempting this.
I only land in vector mode and use VTOL (K) when I do stuff with my RAFT it's really awesome to see, it does not takes too long to learn it, and you can also leave the cockpit when you are confident enough with this manouver.
Must look funny when the ship is in landing approach and the pilot is already standing on the elevator or ramp. Although not that feasible recently with ships being a big nervous on the ground if the engines aren't turned off.
Wookie, you may not be an expert sweaty pilot but that little, straight talkin' tutorial I completely understood. That I really appreciate. Thanks man, I want to start practicing some fancy dandy landings now. Really cool knowledge to share. 😄👍
I had heard about an autolanding feature but I genuinely thought it was broken or not implemented. I had no idea it was like this. Never seen this before. This is fucking awesome.

this makes sense but it's just something I've never experimented with, I have sticks but don't use em on SC due to the in and out nature of on foot/in ship. very well explained to someone who's got not a cluhe about anything, and explaining why it is

OMG, super-appreciated advice! I wouldn't have expected the game to be developed that cleverly there to modify how decoupled works when having landing gear out! I like flying in style but with KBAM, so I will make plenty of use of this. Makes me wonder who coded this (probably communicated through Yogi Klatt) and for how long it is in the game. (EDIT: Found an Old Man Gamer video from 11 months ago, so it's not a new thing, except maybe in Star Citizen development time.) …And now I found a 12 months old one from ArmoredGenie. OK, it's been around for a while.
Been doing this for quite a while now, but never noticed that it negates gravity when landing gear is down. Also the Flight Vector Setting helps alot, not only for landing.
Nice tutorial, I found some time ago that decoupled landing is much smoother and easier than coupled, because you don't have to worry about speed that much, as you don't adjust it actively, all you need is to place your ship parallel to the landing plane and slow down so you don't bounce and take damage. Great guide!
What the hell?? I just logged off while half watching your vid but now Im going back in to test that shit right away!! Dunno how "easy" and "doable" itll be with bigger ships but I gotta try that!
With this I can let one of my friends fly again and we'll be way less likely to die. Thought this was some advanced thing when Yogi brought it up at Citcon. Had no idea it was this easy.
Ho wow! That's awesome. I had so much work to make it look like that withouy your technique. I'll train and try to do it putting out the landing gear at the last moment to have some cinematic landings. 😉👍🏾
Thanks for the video! That is a nice technique, and I definitely want to practice it. For some reason I didn't even think to try decoupled mode in this manner, even though I partially utitilised it sometimes.
Very useful video! Thanks a lot for making it and explaining that maneuver so clearly. 👍 ( I also did not know it was a thing until a couple of days ago)

You may or may not know. For Keyboard and Mouse users you can control your thrust amount as well which helps alot with landing softly to reduce the jerkiness of always using full throttle.
This is nice until you go down too fast and as a result you can't slow down quickly enough because you decreased the acceleration on your thrusters. Use a keyboard and mouse if you strictly have to but if you like this game, or any other space game with 6 degrees of freedom, consider investing in two sticks, it'll make your hobby a lot more enjoyable.
@@marcdingena3920 lol you just increase it again. You adjust it as needed. Pretty easy and for some kb and mouse is enough. Hell some prefer xbox controllers, so to each their own about what they find enjoyable.
This will help massivly. Also i dont know if other people do this. But i tend to land with my rear gear first. Only problem with that in CFM is sometimes the ships gear touches the ground, then yhe ships flight computer cuts engine power and slams the nose gear into the deck.
As a M+KB player this is how Ive done first person landing in all the times a played. Its the most rewarding 100%. I also add in thruster adjustments with RALT and Mouse wheel.
I think you have proximity assist turned on? That's an important distinction to make, since it slows you down when near surfaces. Cheers for the video :) I fly mouse and keyboard but used to be able to land pretty well with the throttle limiter once they introduced it i'd just come in and set that limiter then land pretty smoothly... then they changed how the limiter worked and it's back to the old paint shaker landings so i'd been trying to land decoupled xD you filled in a few gaps and saved me some time there.
