I like the look of the freelancer. I like exploration. But the DUR is just too ugly. 🤷 But it is such an old chassis, I would not be surprised if it got a significant rework. A crew of four on a ship that size is outdated.
As a FL Max owner i think i will wait to see if the gold standard pass on the Lancers wont at least even out the range difference a bit. But other than that, i am glad i already filled my concept ship budget with a Spirit. Otherwise i would have bought either the ES or the CL before the panel was over
I ditched my Hawk for the MR. A couple of friends of mine have joined the game and are keen on bounty hunting; they saw the MR and thought it looked cool. I never particularly liked the aesthetic of the Hawk or the Cutlass Blue for that matter so I upgraded to something we can all play with together. The clipper is tempting too - I have a soft spot in my heart for my old Freelancer Max but the extra shielding is tempting me.
I'm really excited to see how stealth mechanics will play out over the next few years with scanning being fleshed out... I bought the CL as a replacement for my Kore because I like to run cargo and smuggle but wanted something that would have just a little more space than 6 scu. Here's hoping it'll be as fast as it looks and eventually have another paint scheme than hazard tape/blue/black.
thanks for this! i was fighting myself with getting either the ES or the CL and i went for the ES, it shall be my home ship lol. thanks again for this vid
good vid, though a note for future vids so that you don't confuse new SC players looking for an opinion or insight on what might be one of their first stand alone ships, you should consider keeping your slide shows more related to the ship of function your talking about when showing off a ship or one with multiple variants.... like talking about cargo size between different variants and your slides show is just random instead of a side by side comparison of the variants of the ship.... or talking about a specific variant in detail, your slide show is just random as it should be to that ship.... I've been playing SC all the way back when Port Olisar was the only thing around and its always nice to see new players come to a game like this...
I would imagine, once Armor gets properly added into the game, this ship's engine will be quite hard to take out, which would be a tremendous benefit for running away with cargo.
I don’t have the link, but they mentioned on spectrum that the shields on these are correct. There was originally going to be an announcement about shield shield rebalancing across ships, but that was put off and will be forthcoming.
The Vanguard is a heavy fighter. The Zeus is a larger multi-crew ship. So it makes sense to me that the shields are stronger than a Vanguard. What I don't quite understand is that the floorplans appear to have an airlock right behind the cockpit across from the suit lockers. But the exterior doesn't appear to reflect that, so I would presume there would be some modifications in that regard.
The primary thing I'm curious about with at least the CL and MR (since those are the two I grabbed) is the type of ground vehicle they'll be capable of hauling
It also seems to have atmospheric flight control surfaces. I wouldn't worry too much about what ships have which components, as that's all likely to change with the power grid rework.
The MR's top turret was said to be "Forward Facing." So could be pilot control. The "Dampner" is listed as both QED and QD so is confusing. QED would have the Snare. The big requirement for me to CCU from my Blue to an MR, is what the crew positions actually are. :) We've been told jump point size were being refactored. What is the point of the Hydrogen Tank size? Most of your flight time is going to be using Quantum fuel. Hydrogen fuel is used in landing approach and leaving an LZ or in Dogfighting.
i bought a ccu upgrade to the CL, it being able to hold more cargo than the C1 spirit while being similar in size makes it the better option at the moment.
Yeah, I'm trying to justify having both ships. I'm an Origin fan, and have the 400i, but it's a L ship with a M Radar. The Zeus MK II is a M ship with a L Radar. What advantages does the 400i have?
@@KevinFelker 400i have a size 3 shield, 42 scu of cargo (+10), one more remote turret, the turrets have size 3 weapons and have a dedicated garage for a hover bike that won't take up storage space.
@@KevinFelker Can't be sure yet, but I'd put money on the 400i being faster on top of what was said in ^ comment. We also don't yet know how the jump drive sizes are going to dictate how our ships go from system to system. Maybe the ES has an easier time going through wormholes than the 400i? And iirc the 400i (like other Origin ships) has a fuel scoop, so it's hydrogen fuel will likely last much longer than the ES, but I could be totally wrong on that point. Last thing, many many years ago, the devs said something about how luxury ships will provide some kind of bonus to our ability to have NPC crews stay happier for longer times away from stations/planets. Like some kind of morale boost for having nicer accommodations in ships. IDK if this is still planned, but if so it bears considering if you plan to hire NPCs and keep them out on long excursions. So in reality it sounds like the advantages the ES would have are 1.) Scanning 2.) better forward fire (although fighting in either ship is probably bad idea) 3.) Jump gate characteristics (but that could go either way) 4.) This is speculation but I'd imagine the 400i may get an "upkeep tax" or something for being a luxury ship. It might cost more to maintain an Origin over a similar ship from another manufacturer.
@@stevenh9474 I've been around since kickstarter, don't think I ever heard that part about NPC morale. Sounds pretty cool, as I plan on running with at least one NPC. Thanks for the detailed reply.
The ST varient is pretty much a for sure based on that fact. They showed it in the art images and they didn't unveil it with the others. Then they showed the silhouettes of the up and coming ships and one of them ones a Zues Mark II but everyone kept saying no it couldnt be as they just unveiled it. But it only makes since that that one would be the ST variant which most likely would be a racing variant or data runner.
The only thing that confused me was that sometimes you were showing a different variant than the one you we’re talking about but good info man, I picked up an ES CCU from my cutlass :)
My guess is that the Zeus would be pretty sluggish, with that big health pool. If not, there’s no real reason to go for the C1 Spirit over the CL (besides looks - it has less cargo, is a bigger target and doesn’t even have multiple entryways - and it’s still a medium hauler with a tractor beam….) unless it goes way up in price. Still picked a CL up though :) Edit: I’d say it would be a fair competitor to the max, the cargo difference is minimal in exchange for more pilot weapons. The max’s rework may see it gain a tractor beam(?)
Turrets are all size three weapons iirc. Es is supposed to fit the cyclone class of ground vehicles. Agree there’s plenty up in the air. All I know is I can hardly wait for their release. My guess with the ST is it will be the “Phoenix” or “James Bond” version, with more combat ability than EC or cl but no eWar (emp and dampener) with a more luxurious internal design. Just a guess… and I bet one of mine will be upgraded to it.
Know what this reminds me of? The Titan's big brother. Can fight and do a little cargo, mining, exploration, etc without excelling at any of them. Does seem like an _everyman_ ship.
i think the ES has an open hallway through the middle that cant be filled with cargo, similar to the C1, where i believe the CL is allowed to go wall to wall cargo with no access to rear ramp
NO! You get a shit Crusader Bomber as a loaner. How does a useless bomber equate to any of the Zeus variants? I got next 0 cargo and a bay full of near useless bombs, when I ordered a Zeus CL.
If I may, I think the most direct line of comparison for the Xeus ES is the 400i. It has about the same shield HP pool, very similar in cargo capacity, the same pilot controlled weapons and similar scanning ranges. The primary advantage the Zeus has at this moment over the 400i is that it should be able to navigate small jump portals as it is comparable in size to a freelancer. The 400i has the advantage of dedicated vehicle storage, an additional turret and the cartography table but it’s limited to medium jump points and up. The only reason I am not buying one is that I already own a 400i and at this point I am not ready to trade it for a Zeus. Even though I want one. I will likely pick up a Zeus MR in game when it’s released. I think There is a lot of good gameplay capabilities there but I am not going to spend real money on it. Also I’m already deep enough into this project and I am doing my best to hold off on giving CIG fresh money until Squadron 42 is released. STL I love your content, I have followed your channel for years and I really enjoy your commentary. Thanks so much.
I think is they start implementing atmosphere flight dynamics properly, you will see a big ship handling diffidence between the Zeus and it's competitors. like the Freelancer and Drake.
i'm highly considering it, I have a freelancer Max, which was upgraded from the Freelancer which I've had for a long long time. Though maybe not until its actually ready, but unless the Freelancer series gets a redesign and get a gold standard pass, I just feel like this is a faaar better choice than the freelancers. The freelancer max and this Zeus Mk II are both the same price yet this one has slightly more cargo space, It has vastly more room to move around in and just overall looks better. I know they advertise the Freelancers as the space truck, but for the price that its being sold as, it just does not seem worth the amount that is being asked for when you could get something way better for a similar price. Which pains me because I do like the MISC line ups. But as we constantly get newer ships, it becomes painfully obvious how old these designs are and how they don't match up with what we currently have. Especially now that we got the Hull C and how good these MISC ships could look.
am I the only one thinking that the combat oriented one is the one being the less protected ? I mean the exploration one has one supplementary shield and I have heard that the cargo one has supplementary armor but nothing for the combat one, huh, strange
I wonder if the ST is a transport like the E1, would make sense for them to delay it since the E1 got fucked over with a delayed release compared to the other Spirits
For the MR vs. Cutty Blue discussion…. This changes now I think. With Master Modes the EMP can now be considered much more seriously…. If you can jump…. You no longer have shields up.
I was a little sad that the CL took the place of the Max as the largest cargo able to pass through small jump points. It was one of the major things the Max had going for it. I guess it's still the cheapest though as I'm guessing the CL will be around $200 when it is releases.
A solid maybe since they're apparently going to update similarly sized ship's components....making me think we will have 3 size subcategories: connie size, a1 size, and cutlass size
Love the blue, would consider it if it got a rework... but sadly it's getting melted for now. Between the huge armory & usable living space (can finally poop somewhere!), I think the MR will be my daily driver for bounty hunting. It will make a great ship to deploy a small team from for ground based capture missions. Only other thing I'm eager to see is if it will fit in the Crucible bay once it gets reconcepted... if not no biggy.
Did you attend CitzenCon? I was lucky enough to go and it was really fantastic. So glad I made the effort to go. Not going to buy the Zeus. Kind of want a Pioneer now that they've gotten us excited about base building.
If i can fit a roc in the zeus MR i will probably make that my daily driver for its ability to just do a little of anything except cargo i quess, but i can always just rent a ship for cargo running if i want to do that for the day
I ended buying it. I upgraded my Cutty Black to a Zeus CL (even though I hate the paint job) The loaner is an A1, which is kind of worse than a Cutty Black, utility wise. The Spirit A1 also shoots two of its guns weirdly. They cross paths close to the ship. Otherwise I only have an Avenger Titan, because it's still the best starter ship probably.
really wish we had a medical version! would like something new until we get the Apollo. cutlass red is good, but oh so fragile...and there's only so much space duct tape! still considering upgrading to the CL...kinda curious to see how big the storage area is. maybe might be able to finagle a C8R in there? prolly not. still worth a shot though!
Now when Zeus is released and almost completely outclasses Freelancers and C1 (and MSR) in the role of a smaller medium freighter both in features and in most stats, can we get a post-release version of this video?
Marky Mark is my heavy 'dictor, it's going to be invaluable for chasing down hardier targets that the Mantis has trouble sinking its fangs into while having better facilities than the Cutlass Blue. I'm really looking forward to this addition to our battlegroup compositions
Every body saying that having 4 medium shields is crazy but this ships is just a little smaller than the 400i which comes with a single large shield (AKA more than double the shield capacity of 4 medium ones, even equiping the best possible S2 shields and the worst possible S3 one). And before someone mentions the difference in price between the two ships, remember that the 400i is already released and at its highest price while the Zeus is at its very first concept sale and almost guaranteed to increase in price multiple times over the next years.
Thinking of upgrading my cutlass to the ES, but Im worried that the ES is too heavily focused on exploration to be my daily driver/general use runaround. What do you think?
The CL might be a better fit if you want to do the same things as you can do in the Cutty, more cargo space/ space for vehicles and they both have a tractor beam.
at the current price it's an excellent boat especially for 138 SCU with the level of shields until scanning gameplay and the secure cargo works it's better than an MSR for hauling
I have a DUR and kind of see it gettin’ an overhall at somepoint, maybe even a rework. It being the biggest ship to go through small jumppoints is kind of why I got it (also sits well between my Carrack and 315p) but I did get myself a ccu to the ES just incase nothing too worth mentioning happens to the DUR in the future.
Tell me, with everything going on in the CIG camp, do you really think CIG care about the DUR...kinda dont think its on their radar. Nice ship and all, but a rework...really?. You seem to be one for the old guard.
@@DFoss89 I mean, it's 100% certain they (like all old ships) will get a gold standard pass. Question being is that enough to fix what's broken with them? Who knows. I hope they go for a MKII series that's slightly more expensive, but lets people decide to stick with the "classic" or upgrade to new hotness.
I wonder if any of the Zeus variants will be able to fit into the Misc Odyseey's ship bay? Although both are in concept and size for each can change, I think the Zeus would be a great asset to have when your in the odyssey. looking at starship 42 it looks like it would almost fit.
I basically traded my MSR for both the ES and CL. The idea being, as a solo space hermit, I can take my ES out to explore what I want to explore (FFS, give us more exploration info CIG!!) and the CL to transport goods and small vehicles from my hermitage to town when I need to visit the unwashed masses. Do you think I'll have more combined utility with both ES and CL, than I'd get with MSR alone? I don't care about data running because it's not out yet (and couldn't I fit future space information on a future space thumb drive? Why do I need a massive server room??!?).
Agreed. CIG also said the reworked 600i was going to fit a Nova but never mentioned how it would fit underneath the 600i to begin with. Years later the rework is still “pending”. Take some of the schematics with a grain of salt
@@joelellis7035 without a ramp the 600i just does not have the clearance to load a Nova tank by elevator in the belly of the 600i. The main point of my comment. There are plenty of clips mentioning it will be able to carry a Tonk. Solid chance they will backtrack on that idea OR add a ramp which they never mentioned. Irregardless of when the rework was announced.
@@Alopen-xb1rb No, the only mentioning of the 600i carrying the Tonk came with the announcement of the rework. It was to emphasize how they reworked the design to eliminate the player complaints about wasted space inside the ship. The mentioning of the Tonk was a surprise because it contrasted with the luxury aesthetic of the Origin line of ships. And you're unnecessarily trying to box in the argument that a ramp is necessary. Like they did with the 400i, the landing gear need only be extended for the 600i to give the necessary clearance for the Tonk.
Do we know yet if the Zeus can fit is small jump points? Thinking about upgrading my DUR, but if Zeus is medium+ only then I don’t call it an “upgrade” for my plan.
I think the MSR should also have been in the CL comparison. I already think it better than the Max as the wide ramp and bay makes it much easier to load cargo and vehicles plus I prefer to avoid combat so I count the speed as more useful than better weapons. I thought I would never replace my MSR as my medium freighter but the CL might just change my mind. I like the tractor beam set way out to be more useful and the extra exit. It really depends on how good data running is and how fast the CL is. It will not be as fast as the MSR but as long as it is not horribly slow then it might do. I might also have to think about the ES instead of my Corsair or 400i. John Crewe hinted that the Corsairs radar is no more than 'a bit above average' while the ES seems to have a proper exploration one.

As a FL Max owner i think i will wait to see if the gold standard pass on the Lancers wont at least even out the range difference a bit. But other than that, i am glad i already filled my concept ship budget with a Spirit. Otherwise i would have bought either the ES or the CL before the panel was over
There was for a breif moment a "Racing" tab on the Zeus page so it is thought that a racing variant may get announced at IAE
Will be interesting to see what happens with the freelancer as it needs a full rework.
I love MISC ships, and the new ones like the HULL-A have beautiful internal design. I really hope they do cause they would become some very cool ships
GAWD this ship is SLEEK! I just got Star Citizen and I wanna get something like this eventually.
for anyone wondering this is about to come out in 4.0 or so was teased you can really never tell guess we will see
I ditched my Hawk for the MR.
I got the CL. I really liked the design of the ships. Also, I like the cargo compacity for the price.
This really makes me want to see how the connie is going to change, this just seems to outright beat the connie at present
Honestly, I prefer ramps over elevators and I honestly see this handling a lot better than the Connie
Except the connie has 2 - 3 x the firepower of the Zeus.
the connie is tankier, generally has more storage and dps too, im still gonna melt mine for a zeus tho, the level of polish being the reason
The ST also has an extra turret, rear mounted spoiler, different winglets, and what looks like a skylight over the cargo bay.
thanks for this! i was fighting myself with getting either the ES or the CL and i went for the ES, it shall be my home ship lol. thanks again for this vid
Ditto … the ES will be my Millennium Falcon once in game.
We are getting component changes for most ships according to CIG so old ship components are completely up in the air.
Just bought the MR! Can't wait to fly it in a year
A silver-metallic paint job on the Cutlass Blue = Din Djarin aka Mando's original ship
- This is the way
Devs confirmed the shields are designed to be post shield rework, so not to put much stock on the number of shields on the ship.
If the Defender gets 2x S2, I will squeal unattractively
good vid, though a note for future vids so that you don't confuse new SC players looking for an opinion or insight on what might be one of their first stand alone ships, you should consider keeping your slide shows more related to the ship of function your talking about when showing off a ship or one with multiple variants.... like talking about cargo size between different variants and your slides show is just random instead of a side by side comparison of the variants of the ship.... or talking about a specific variant in detail, your slide show is just random as it should be to that ship.... I've been playing SC all the way back when Port Olisar was the only thing around and its always nice to see new players come to a game like this...
I would imagine, once Armor gets properly added into the game, this ship's engine will be quite hard to take out, which would be a tremendous benefit for running away with cargo.
The difference between the ES and the CL might be interior height, but it will probably change before release.
I don’t have the link, but they mentioned on spectrum that the shields on these are correct. There was originally going to be an announcement about shield shield rebalancing across ships, but that was put off and will be forthcoming.
its the python from ED and i need it.
As a longtime mustang alpha only owner, the RSI CL looks very tempting. Robert bout to finally get me hahahah
We've been told jump point size were being refactored.
Very good video, as usual! I would also compare the ES with the 400i.
Still picked a CL up though :)
Edit: I’d say it would be a fair competitor to the max, the cargo difference is minimal in exchange for more pilot weapons.
Solid information and definitely appreciate the added comparisons, helped me make my decision very easy. 👍
i think the ES has an open hallway through the middle that cant be filled with cargo, similar to the C1, where i believe the CL is allowed to go wall to wall cargo with no access to rear ramp
Thanks for the video. Your should you buys are often the highest quality around. Great stuff
During citizencon, they said that the biggest current ground vehicle they can haul is the cyclone
So in summary, the $250 ship outperforms the $150 ship.
Very glad to listen to your analysis again
I think is they start implementing atmosphere flight dynamics properly, you will see a big ship handling diffidence between the Zeus and it's competitors. like the Freelancer and Drake.
Im going to change out my DUR which i love for the Zeus ES! Thanks for the comparisons. Helps alot!
is it worth that much money for pixels? absolutely not, did I buy it? yes
ST:
Stealth?
Status?
Sport Touring?
STarfarer?
ShuTtle?
STriker?
i'm highly considering it, I have a freelancer Max, which was upgraded from the Freelancer which I've had for a long long time.
I mean the exploration one has one supplementary shield and I have heard that the cargo one has supplementary armor
but nothing for the combat one, huh, strange
How it fits all that cargo on the CL is it stack wall to wall so you can't walk around the cargo bay when it's full
I wonder if the ST is a transport like the E1, would make sense for them to delay it since the E1 got fucked over with a delayed release compared to the other Spirits
What is the other room in opposite to the armory on the MR for??
For the MR vs. Cutty Blue discussion…. This changes now I think. With Master Modes the EMP can now be considered much more seriously…. If you can jump…. You no longer have shields up.
I was a little sad that the CL took the place of the Max as the largest cargo able to pass through small jump points. It was one of the major things the Max had going for it. I guess it's still the cheapest though as I'm guessing the CL will be around $200 when it is releases.
Well, if you think about it, the Constellation Taurus is at the same price, I don't think it will increase much.
Wonder how well it will do solo
This is the best ship comparison video I've seen over the last 7 years of Star Citizen. Thank you!
I got the 'Essential' variant because I dont have an exploring ship plus I love the design.
I believe the reason the CL has more cargo space has to do with the lack of top turret above the cargo area.
But ES doesn't have one too
@@xvieirax ahhh my mistake, I thought it did when I first saw it.
Did you attend CitzenCon? I was lucky enough to go and it was really fantastic. So glad I made the effort to go. Not going to buy the Zeus. Kind of want a Pioneer now that they've gotten us excited about base building.
I would like to know if it has the VTOL fans that the constellation series have that is a big factor for me
If i can fit a roc in the zeus MR i will probably make that my daily driver for its ability to just do a little of anything except cargo i quess, but i can always just rent a ship for cargo running if i want to do that for the day
I ended buying it. I upgraded my Cutty Black to a Zeus CL (even though I hate the paint job)
The loaner is an A1, which is kind of worse than a Cutty Black, utility wise. The Spirit A1 also shoots two of its guns weirdly. They cross paths close to the ship.
Otherwise I only have an Avenger Titan, because it's still the best starter ship probably.
Like the number of entrances for sure.
The Zeus is a ship I‘d love to work myself up to in game. Buying in in the pledge store would skip way too much progression.
I kinda hope the MR will be good for something but I'm not convinced about its combat ability. Guess we'll see.
really wish we had a medical version! would like something new until we get the Apollo. cutlass red is good, but oh so fragile...and there's only so much space duct tape!
still considering upgrading to the CL...kinda curious to see how big the storage area is. maybe might be able to finagle a C8R in there? prolly not. still worth a shot though!
Where can i buy it tho? The website doesn't show the purchase option
The time SC Comes out, You'll have to change your name to STLYOldblood!
Now when Zeus is released and almost completely outclasses Freelancers and C1 (and MSR) in the role of a smaller medium freighter both in features and in most stats, can we get a post-release version of this video?
As a newer citizen, how did this CitizenCon compare to previous years?
Marky Mark is my heavy 'dictor, it's going to be invaluable for chasing down hardier targets that the Mantis has trouble sinking its fangs into while having better facilities than the Cutlass Blue. I'm really looking forward to this addition to our battlegroup compositions
for solo player 2s4 fixed weapon is very bed. And you cant use em and qd in pilot seat
@@SargonRa I have an org/friends to crew. Mantis is still the solo 'dictor
The CL might be a better fit if you want to do the same things as you can do in the Cutty, more cargo space/ space for vehicles and they both have a tractor beam.
just looking for a decent daily driver tbh@@Wilolino
Wonder if, following RSI naming, there will be a Zeus MK2 LN
“Storage suit for lockers” lol hell yeah man good video🫡
Can Bounty version carry cyclone?
at the current price it's an excellent boat especially for 138 SCU with the level of shields until scanning gameplay and the secure cargo works it's better than an MSR for hauling
Would the Cargo varient be an ok daily driver? I currently daily a C1 Spirit and not sure if I should upgrade
Why did they put the turret under the ship, while on top it could offer minimal defense when the ship is on the ground...
@@davewills148 I don’t think it’s on their radar, was just simply hopeful rather than believing it. One can only hope. 😅
It may read 128 SCU, but honestly, I only see 64 SCU when looking at it...
- i.e. 4x the MR's cargo capacity, instead of 4x that of the ES
Agreed. CIG also said the reworked 600i was going to fit a Nova but never mentioned how it would fit underneath the 600i to begin with. Years later the rework is still “pending”. Take some of the schematics with a grain of salt
@Alopen-xb1rb the rework of the 600i was only announced in the past year.
