    This is by far the biggest video I've ever made but it was also a community effort so I want to thank everyone who made this happen. Big thanks to Recycled Recitals for being so patient. (We started talking about this collab over a year ago!) Also congrats to you and your husband for getting married! =) Also huge thanks to the support of Angry Mob members who not only kept me accountable to showing up to each interval training session but also for doing this challenge with me. You guys are the best 🐻❤️
    Thanks also to all of the subscribers on this channel. We just went over 150k! I celebrated by having a donut which is a bigger deal than it sounds trust me.

      @@esmeekmphs honestly I go to sleep early like a grandma and I’ve always woken up early on my own without an alarm clock. The downside is that when I get asked to an event that starts in the evening I’m already sleepy before anything starts 🤷🏻‍♂️ usually I’m not productive after waking up. My favourite things in life are the mornings when I get up at 5, drink tons of coffee and play something chill at the same time.

      @@angrymikko hahaha "like a grandma" 🤣 but that actually sounds nice! Also there's something special about starting the day quietly while the rest of 'the world' is still sleeping, right?

    Your art is so inspiring. Seriously! Whenever I don't feel creative, or feel lazy, I just need to watch your video and I feel creative again. Please don't ever stop doing this. Your art is just too gorgeous.

    Man, you made a powerful statement in there, "You don't want to associate art with something that is just difficult, unpleasant work all the time." I had this bad feeling, and have been unable to put it into words. These are the words I was looking for. Thanks a lot for this video!

    Thank you so much for this video, it was so inspiring and it's always super interesting to hear your (and in this case your collaborators) thoughts about making art!

      I’m just happy I didn’t break the video editing file while stacking all these processes together. I want to point out that I don’t regret doing this challenge and there’s definitely more benefits than described in the latter half of the video. Sometimes making content for TH-cam can make one feel like each illustration needs to be somehow “bigger” than the last one.
      However this challenge definitely helped me reconnect with the beauty of smaller more quiet paintings. I’m especially happy with the 🐝 one. That would be so easy to kill by overworking it. Further polish would destroy the energy it has and having the time limit against me allowed me to let go of it when it was finished.

    A great video Mikko! I really love your painting of the boat, and the ghost’s umbrella on the island is an adorable detail. Also, I laughed at the Majora’s Mask references. Making the moon red for the final day was perfect. 😂

      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I spent an entire evening recreating the “dunDUNN” sound effect from Majora’s Mask but in the end I had to cut it because it just wasn’t fitting the rest of the soundscape 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve actually gotten back to using more of my 3ds recently. Such a great system for the type of gamer I am.

    Mikko, thank you so much for creating this and doing such a good job for a very difficult challenge. I love everything you said here and the flow of your thought process is amazing. I feel really inspired by you and I really love your art style. It’s magical, sentimental, and hopeful. Art has always been important to me and I completely agree with what you said that we don’t want to associate art with something difficult and unpleasant work. I have always pressured myself to create and it never turns out good. You reminded me to go back to my roots and why I like to create art - having fun is the best thing we can do because art is really an extension of us. 💕

    I couldn’t take part in the challenge week as I had a really busy week and have been trying not to overwork myself! 😅
    But my eldest now has “the illness” again so we’re in isolation- the perfect time to get lots of painting practice done!
    These are so gorgeous! Favourite has to be the ghost island though, definitely relate to that one 😅

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The week is available as a playlist for you members. If you want to do those sessions then I would recommend using your own consideration if you want to finish a painting on the same day or not. “JUST” doing the session every morning is more than enough and you will see the benefits if you do it on consecutive days. Rather than forcing yourself to finish a painting every day I would recommend picking a sketch you like and then work on it as long as that painting needs you. Hope your son feels better soon. Take care of yourself too. 🐻

      After the morning session that started at 8 I would have a break to walk Vivi and eat some breakfast. Then I worked until 12 and again from 12:40ish until 17:00.
      Depending on which interval the sketch was done in I got a lot or almost no work done already. The 20minute paintings (like “Happy Together”) were quite far along already but others such as the final one only had 5 minutes of scribbles on it before I started my work day.

    Hey Mikko, I have a question. I bought your Procreate brush pack and have been messing around with the brushes. Is there a single brush from your pack (or maybe up to 2-3), which you would recommend to complete beginners? Maybe one, which has easy to control brush strokes / smudging / erasing.

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All of the brushes are designed so that an entire painting can be done with just one of those brushes.
      Some beginner friendly brushes depending on what you have access to:
      -Mikko Rull in Brushes for Painters
      -Blueberry from that same set^
      -Precise Watercolour in Watercolours for Bears
      -Round Plus in membership downloads this month (April 2022)
      Not recommended for beginners:
      -Pastel on Wood (it’s great for layering and creating simultaneous colour contrast but it will always be like riding a bull in a china shop especially if you have perfectionist traits)
      -Cloud Weaver Brush (this is a super easy brush for clouds but I wouldn’t recommend making a whole painting with just this one tool)
      Let me know if you have any more questions and I’ll try my best to help :)

    Hey Mikko! The 60 minutes times you are talking about, can you tell us how much long is every section is, is it like 20,15,10,5,4,3,2,1 minutes? or is there a better way than these timings

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s nothing magical about the exact times. There’s a timer video I made that has sound cues for the remaining time in the same playlist as the livestreams. I don’t recommend watching a clock while doing this. I’ll check that video to see the times we used. Just a second…
      Ok it’s 18, 15, 12, 10 and 5 minutes I set a sound cue for 3 minutes 1 minute and the last ten or so seconds. That way I was always able to tell the group how long there was to go without taking my eyes off the canvas.

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some tabata training apps let you set your own intervals so that could also be one way to keep your focus on the painting. Or just have someone yell at you to switch to a new layer 😅

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I painted from 11 to 17: 00 each day with about one hour lunch break. Tuesday was different because of Vivi’s daycare trip. Morning livestreams were all one hour but only a small portion of that was for the day’s painting depending on which interval it appeared in.

      There was definitely a pressure on most days. Not quite the world ending but missing a deadline would have destroyed the entire video concept so that would have been a lot of wasted energy. Next video: “7 pixel art illustrations in 7 days” (jk I’m not that big of a glutton for punishment!)
