    Would you use this treatment on young koi, like 1-2” in size? Have you ever used minnfinn treatment on young koi’s? Thanks for sharing this treatment video!

    That’s given me the confidence to use it tomorrow, never used it before in the best part of 30 years of pond keeping 😳
    Hope you are well and the new pond build is in the advanced stages. Stay safe and well 👍🏻

      Steve, you must observe the Koi. Air is key, have the ability to neutralise the water immediately as well it will help your anxiousness. You’ll be fine buddy. Let me know how you get on.

      @@KraftyKoi That was nerve racking! Been keeping ponds/fish/wildlife for over 25 years and never had a trich problem before, so all new to me. Cleaned both my filter systems first thing. My pond is 3,500 gallons (inc filter) so 23.8 grams was rounded up to 25 because I have quite a few plants, so big bio load. That went brown in under 2 hours, so added another 12 grams. The fish all looked startled, alert, what the f’s going on. At 3 and half hours, back to brown. Didn’t want to leave it there, as I’d read plants in baskets should get around 6 hours, so another 13 grams went in, getting very nervous at this point (5pm) after another hour and half added the HP at 6.40pm. Surprising how quick it becomes clear. This morning the water is sparkling, the fish all look fine and the frog/toads are still croaking, so all seems well, I’ll leave the air ramped up for a day or so. Hope all good with you. Stay safe and well 👍🏻. Thanks

    Could you explain the dosage for carp with scales and doitsu? how many grams or milligrams per liter and how long is the bath?

    • @KraftyKoi
      @KraftyKoi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dosage needs to be via the instructions on the packet mate. It doesn’t matter what variety of carp, whether Koi or Common nor does it matter whether fully scaled or Doitsu Fish. You should bath for a minimum of 4hrs, however you must watch the water colour as PP strips oxygen it will turn the water a tea colour. As this happens you should resize on smaller amounts until you bring the purple colour back. This is powerful and potentially fatal if you are a lax on your discipline, so ensure you have enough air, and be prepared to have the ability to move you fish or and Hydrogen Perroxide to reverse the effect of the PP (it re-oxygenates the water). If your unsure drop a comment below and I’m happy to advise you further if needs be. Thanks for commenting.

    Could you tell me the brand and model of your Air pump/ Air stone please! Many thanks

      Hi Tom, it’s a EA air pump 70litre per hour. Link below. If you looking because you’re doing a PP treatment there are cheaper on the market that do the same thing but cost a little more to run.

    • @KraftyKoi

      The water colour will dictate mate over the course of the treatment. But it’s your pond, if you only want to do one, go for it and see what the results are.

      From what I have researched, the number and timing of treatments is a function of the problem you are treating not the volume of water. Volume of water only determines the weight of pp you add for each treatment.

    Just to throw In a curve ball .. I don't remove my sturgeon ... and never had a problem with pp and with pp no need to turn off the uv like other treatments.. oh and sodium thiosulphate (dechlorinator) also neutralises pp also

    • @KraftyKoi
      @KraftyKoi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Reference your sturgeon comment, it’s recommended that they are removed. Sturgeon need a lot of air and PP strips oxygen from the water. I know lots of people that don’t remove their sturgeon but it’s not recommended as it’s a risk sometimes it’s better safe than sorry.

      @@KraftyKoi thanks for the reply, there this idea going around on u tube that 4 hours is enough time for the pp to do its job if you read the instructions on the packet it says at around 12 hours depending on temp u have to take into account the effect nitrates has on the pp. high nitrates can reduce the effectiveness of pp i watch so many videos where koi keepers say the tric the costia the fluckes have returned must be due the fish being stressed as if parasites only need stress to reincarnate, stay well mate wish u the best of luck with your channel

    • @KraftyKoi
      @KraftyKoi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s interesting, it’s always worth asking a question, it’s not something I’ve heard of and will look at your points as it needs to be done correctly. Stress will not cause flukes to return, something missing in treatment or bad water filtration/management. As im assuming you’ll know all to well. Thank you for replying and wishing me luck. I may just make reference to this in an upcoming episode to see what comes backs

    I guess this is another unnecessary piece of information you got from Japanese breeders. This may be necessary if you have a lot of opportunities to bring them in directly from raising them in natural mud ponds. In my opinion, this kind of information about medicated bathing and disinfection should be developed in conjunction with the improvement of habits, such as the strengthening of KOI's physical strength and preventive measures to eliminate the need for such things.

    • @KraftyKoi
      @KraftyKoi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I couldn’t agree more with you latter statement ref improvements of habits etc, If you see further videos in my channel you can see habits of keeping clean filters etc in means of prevention of illness but sometimes you’ve got to do these types of treatment to prevent further harm to the Koi or risk infestation, secondary infection or worse fatality. So unless you can tell me how to make a natural mud pond and take information from people that know better I’m all ears mate. Thank you for commenting.

      @@KraftyKoi It may be difficult to change the way we think about this, but I think we should rethink our drug-driven approach to keeping KOI. th-cam.com/channels/YaBuDZR_X-ZGvVm1KqpzuA.html When I introduce her in various places, there is always a rejection. They say that she is a terrible beginner. ※This woman happens to be Canadian, but maybe there is someone like her near you, who doesn't know KOI variety but is good at keeping them. All advanced hobbyists in Japan have the skills to do this. In other words, they are able to overwinter without heating, and they are able to sterilise and heat their KOIs on top of these basic skills. The pioneers in your country have spread only secondary knowledge before spreading the basic fundamentals of keeping KOI.
