Thanks for the helpful video. This is apparently my week to learn my lesson about quarantining new fish. Last week I saw a beautiful koi that had somehow ended up in petco. Just couldn’t pass on him and added him to my pond. Was so excited to find this unique koi I forgot the food I went in to buy and went back two days later. Almost all the fish in that tank were now dead. I thought “oh no” and went straight home to find the new fish dead as well. The next day another dead, the next day another. Hopefully I can get this under control asap.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully a salt treatment can help you out. Unfortunately it's not a rare situation. You never know what you may be bringing home when ever you purchase a new fish or plant anywhere. I wish you good luck in preventing any more loss. I hate to hear those stories.

Para salt is all you need. I add it to my pond in spring and again right before winter. In addition. i use UV light in the filter system.

Cool, sounds good. The UV most likely won't have much of an affect on the parasites. In order for it to be affective as a sterilizer, it would need to be very big, and the water would have to be flowing through it very slowly for the parasites to be exposed to the light long enough for it to affect them. For that reason, most UVs are used as clarifiers in ponds just to kill algae cells, which it does easily as they do not require much exposure to the uv to be affected. Anyway, the salt is very good! 🙂

I currently was using Pond Salt to treat the red ulcers on my koi fish, it seemed like it worked, as the holiday was here I went out of town, Durning my trip my uv light went out for my filter causing algae and muck to grow, as I came back and the pond is more clear one of my koi who previously had an ulcer was much worse! What would you recommend on doing to help with this problem? If you have an email I can send you some pictures of the fish. Thank you for all your help 🙏

Unfortunately, I'm not an expert in koi health or diseases. But, I'll do my best... It sounds like it could be a bacterial infection, as the salt would have killed any protozoan parasites in the pond, unless you normally keep a high salt level in the pond through out the season, then the parasites may have become immune to it. I think that the best action would be to remove the sick fish from the pond, and treat it in a separate holding tank with a broad spectrum medication. If all of your other fish look ok, then it may be a good idea to remove this sick fish from them. This however can sometimes stress the sick fish out more and cause his death. But sometimes they may recover better if treated, and it may help also to provide some sort of cover that it can hide in to feel more safe "relaxed" while in the quarantine tank. Provide good aeration in there as well.

What is ur recommendation on treatment for skin/gill flukes in water that is 50 degrees F? I know life cycle is prolonged. I have tried prazi separated by 7 d without resolution.

I honestly do not have a lot of experience with treating flukes, but I would suggest that you try to contact Dr. Erik Johnson. He's the best person to ask about koi health. Look up www.koivet.com
