What an adventure this was. So happy to have seen the Clumsy run live. And to witness the greatest StS game ever streamed: the Necrocurse mastership run! Thanks Baalor, looking forward to our daily meeting on Twitch.
Great job, 1:09:45 would love to see the stats on which cards were mastered multiple times. Which cards are genuinely good in multiples rather than getting forced. Probably mostly draw cards good in multiples, but would also be cool to know how things like how many times defect mastered strike.
Never before have Slay the Spire streams been this entertaining - thanks for all the 🌶spicy🌶 builds and good luck with the win streaks of 2024! I'm hoping we'll get a chance to see more double Necronomicon/Grand Finale/The Bomb/Conjure Blade runs in the future.
I admit, at the start of this challenge I thought it wouldn't be interesting, especially coming off the back of the insane streaks from last year. But this turned out to be such a fascinating and exhilarating challenge. Congrats!
The fact that after over 1,000 hours spent on this challenge, many of the statistics are not relevant due to sample size, shows what an amazing game this is.
I discovered your channel during this challenge and have appreciated following along from the youtube side about every night. Keep on churning out the good content!
I dont even play this game. But i fucking love Baalor. Perfect content in almost every way i can think of. God bless you and give you neverending love for this game, so we can keep watching you forever :D
Very nicely put together, and very interesting. One note - it is perhaps a bit misleading to put character win rate in the graphs with relic win rates. That tricks the unreflecting viewer to compare the relics to the character win rate, they should instead be compared to the average relic win rate. Average relic win rate is higher than character win rate. This is natural since winning runs have more relics since they go through the entire game. After all, relics go up with average floor reached. And even if you would compare winning runs to losing runs that both get to the heart, in effect both going through the same number of floors to collect relics, I suspect that the winning runs will still have more relics on average than the losing ones… So, for a relic to be above average for a relic, it has to surpass the relic average win rate, not the character win rate.
This challenge was so cool. If spire ever gets another update they should include a nod to baalor-maybe an event where you can duplicate a card with the downside of getting cursed with a clumsy?
Do any of you follow by just watching the unedited/archives? I’m one of those people that fall asleep listening to those. But I’m dreading when he gets to the point of trying to get 20 A20 wins in a row with watcher. It’s hard to explain but I don’t find her fun, more tedious than anything.
re: Golden Idol event, I think the best way I've seen it described is that it's not so much that you take Golden Idol because its good on its own, but that you take Golden Idol to turn a potential *disaster* floor into a positive floor in Act 2.
Another thing about this relic is that there are events in which you can lose it for some benefits, resulting in a win without Golden Idol registered in stats. If that's the case, we see less winning runs that took the idol then there actually are and thus lowered winrate for the relic
Probably because of his special relationship with energy, the deck already assumes you'll draw or seek Turbo asap; whereas with the others it's more of a game changer
has he ever stated why he picks pommel strike on clad so often compared to quick slash on silent? certainly the single point of damage difference isnt that significant
Commenting because this is a whole ton of work crowning an immensely entertaining challenge run and it needs all the exposure it can get. Good work Mr. Baalorlord
I find it interesting that cards like catalyst or accuracy have a high average floor reached despite acting basically as curses for the first few floors. The sample is small but it might indicate that they are so good when they synergise and the likelihood to find something which works with them quickly - even a card which wouldn’t be taken usually - so high picking them actually raise your likelihood of winning. It’s in these moments you wish you had as much data as the devs.
0:08:05 it's really fascinating that 0 is part of the trend there; i would have expected it to be an outlier. I guess that shows you never actually stopped thinking about the mastery challenge while it was running?
This was a great summary of the challenge! Really enjoyed watching the runs and now getting the rundown at the end! Also, anyone know the music played in this vid? I've heard it but can't remember where!
I think Baalor missed something on wish. It’s often offered and at its best as an act 1 boss reward. This means you’re gambling on getting an energy relic to make it maybe playable.
@@williamenciso9198 yea i get the duping part with dolly or events, im just surprised that defect strike took so long to master even though he have 4 of them from the get go lol. thanks for your replies
Huh, your most hated enemy is the Awakened One. I thought you’d hate Time Eater considering how big your deck (winkwink) is typically near the end game (usually I’d see 28+) and you really like your draw engines + playing many cards on a turn which is always a hazard against Tim
I'm on mobile and can't really make out the relic graphics too well, but perhaps Golden Idol is skewed because of Bloody Idol replacing it and being very powerful? Or does the data tracking still count that as a Golden Idol win?
The excel spreadsheet for the mastery challenge had links to each run, you could sort by date. I’ll even give you the link to so you won’t have to search for it: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Qbbl0mbN8uvgEPlCCk1ZuGT7P9tZ97RMUujvQ07h_kc/edit#gid=0
Incredible how Baalorlord was able to succeed despite the person who makes his thumbnails doubting him at every turn
Can you elaborate? Who is hating on his thumbnails?
@@dennisleach2710it's just a joke because the thumbnail are always hyperbolic "this is impossible" etc.
Such a dumb comment lol
You know it's serious when Jorbs and Baalorlord whips out PowerPoint slides.
Except when Jorbs whips out a slide presentation it's just Thursday.

Hey Baalor can you make a playlist of mastery runs please? Really wanting to see those individually
It's him
What an adventure this was. So happy to have seen the Clumsy run live. And to witness the greatest StS game ever streamed: the Necrocurse mastership run!
Thanks Baalor, looking forward to our daily meeting on Twitch.
The fact that he also got his last to master relic, the friggin CHAMPION belt, on this run was also so fitting
'And when Baalor saw the breadth of his deck, he wept, for there were no more cards to master.'
17:17 quiet suprising that Hemokinesis was a least picked uncommon card on Ironclad. I thought it was one of a best act1 card for him…
Will you create a playlist of the mastery runs ?
They'd be perfect to relive all these epic moments :D
So many incredible runs came out of this challenge; congrats again!
We all know you are talking about the Necrocurse one :D
Great job, 1:09:45 would love to see the stats on which cards were mastered multiple times. Which cards are genuinely good in multiples rather than getting forced. Probably mostly draw cards good in multiples, but would also be cool to know how things like how many times defect mastered strike.
The winrate on the golden idol might be scewed, because it gets removed in two events, so some wins were supported by it, by arent counted.

The exponential decay line comes from selection bias and constant probability of mastery for any given seed
Honestly looking at the stats was so fascinating I feel like it's an interesting thing to do every once in a while regardless of the mastery challange
When Data meets Gaming - it is pure art
What a sick video!
I am bummed not to see the Necronomicurse on the list of cards where your opinion of which has improved.
It's been fun, man, the *necronomicurse + rapture run is my all time favourite. Once again, congrats on your mastery completion!
The Necronomicon duplicates the Fiend Fire...
Do you have link of the run? Would love to watch it
@@tonyfkingdom I don't think I can share the link here, but it's his video with "one-in-a-million run" as its title

Nice retro, and congrats on all achieving the mastery on the most difficult cards!
The fact that after over 1,000 hours spent on this challenge, many of the statistics are not relevant due to sample size, shows what an amazing game this is.
18:30 you’re telling me Baalor took perseverance more than study?😳ngl I find that quite hard to believe since he rarely takes that card, ever
I discovered your channel during this challenge and have appreciated following along from the youtube side about every night. Keep on churning out the good content!
As a data analyst, I loved all of these little graphs

What an awesome recap! Thanks for doing this and thanks for the Challenge. I look forward to the next one.
This was a blast to watch all year. Good work grinding it out, both Baalor and chat
Loved this video thank you for taking the time to recap this challenge- a great ending to all these epic runs

FYI definitely not an exponential decay fit - you managed to get to complete mastery. Probably some sort of polynomial
These graphs support some of my pet relics, mercury hourglass & bronze scales
This video is great! Thank you for the recap. Very informative.
41:30 surprised to see Golden Idol doing so poorly
Also couldnt not find Mummifying hand for the Defect, really wanted to see how it performs
@@shaunhayes3072 ohhh I had not considered that and it makes a lot of sense
Mummy is 70% next to the mushroom and tori

Biased Cognition not in the top 4 Defect rares is surprising.
Baalor with that jorbs PowerPoint vibe 😆
Crazy to see ancient tea set getting an average of 95% watcher and 80% ironclad and silent while getting 20% in defect
Probably because of his special relationship with energy, the deck already assumes you'll draw or seek Turbo asap; whereas with the others it's more of a game changer
I love the data in these retros, excited to watch!
has he ever stated why he picks pommel strike on clad so often compared to quick slash on silent? certainly the single point of damage difference isnt that significant
Pommel upgrades to draw 2 - quick slash does not. That's a big difference.
Would love to see some updated tier lists on each character’s cards now that you’ve completed the mastery challenge!!
Absolutely fabulous. So impressive and entertaining to watch. Thank you so much for the amazing streams and videos, and congratulations!
Yesss I wanted this sort of video, time to see how your perspectives have shifted!
Thanks so much for this, i feel like i learned so much from this video alone!
Commenting because this is a whole ton of work crowning an immensely entertaining challenge run and it needs all the exposure it can get.
Good work Mr. Baalorlord
My British Brain: He mastered all of the cards in one month?!
Oh wait, no. It's just the American calendar haha.
Loved this new style of video.

The sample size really is small. Way smaller than it seems even. Sadly, a lot do these statistics just aren’t relevant at all.
What do/did you do in your full time work? As a math teacher I’m impressed by your mathematical thinking! :)
I'm pretty sure he used to teach chemistry.
Some really cool information, and a very entertaining year of spire. Thanks for the masteries!
0:08:05 it's really fascinating that 0 is part of the trend there; i would have expected it to be an outlier. I guess that shows you never actually stopped thinking about the mastery challenge while it was running?
Very cool so far. Can't wait for the next challenge to be on its high peak!
You're talking about why May was so great. Was it maybe in May when you got the mod that showed which was mastered and not?
This was a great summary of the challenge! Really enjoyed watching the runs and now getting the rundown at the end!

i might've missed something about how mastery works; how do you master the basic starting deck (strikes defends)?
He had to keep 2 of them in the deck then kill the heart.
As for the unique cards in the starter, he had to find an event/relic that created a copy of a card in order to get dupes.
@@williamenciso9198 yea i get the duping part with dolly or events, im just surprised that defect strike took so long to master even though he have 4 of them from the get go lol. thanks for your replies

What a wild ride! I'm glad I was here for it
Surprised to see golden idol with such a bad win rate for all four characters, and Baalor picks it nearly all the time!
It's because two events removes it
Great video, thank you!
33:40 anyone know where I can find the run he bought 15 relics in?
Nvm I found it. "Unlimited Wishes!"
Technically could get a mastery from an enemy in the form of a parasite. :)
Great Job!! Can I ask how did you store the data ? ( Also can you share it ?)
i hate i missed this live but this was awesome series to watch, i want to say i saw a game with 2x clumsy fail, was that the only one?

2025 challenge to see the max # of curses each character can win with 😅
still missing Pride that can only be obtained in endless custom mode...
0:04:25 does a single dagger work for the challenge? can the event show up twice? or is Dolly's Mirror / Dupe Shrine the _only_ way to make it?
Mirror is king of the mastery challenge
How are there mastered relics with 0% winrate?
edit: because they were mastered with another character, duh
Now this is pro
but I don't see any strikes
Look at all this DATA
someone knows how to use pivot tables
I like monster train
I like alchemize over wish. Wish is 3 energy for 25 gold, while alchemize is 1 energy for a potion that would otherwise be bought for 50-120 gold.
He did say that he thinks alchemize is the strongest card in the game.
so what now? no more spire ? :(
