It's actually crazy to see what terrible sportsmanship some of these top guys display when they lose... wow. Hats off to Mikey for always being a true competitor and role model. What an inspiration!

The sport is still relatively young for the mainstream - thus, as the new age BJJ athletes enter the ranks, the old guard gets upset at their loss of grip of power/significance. In a few years the sportsmanship will be much better at the top as it settles into its new normal of athlete.

As a mathematician who practices jiu-jitsu, I felt so connected to this guy from the first minute of the video. There is truly something very schematic and logic in this sport, there is always a problem to solve.

Using Set theory and abstract algebra to make algorithms that you program your subconscious with is the way to go or at least how I've done it but sometimes entering,"the state ", will simplify the math in an artistic way that's so beautiful and elegant it could be considered hacking jujitsu

I was 6'2 250 in shape, I could bust out 25 pull ups unbroken and was ripped when I started rolling man I was a real hot shot but having my purple belt friend Kong (5'2 and a little pudgy) laughing at my try hard ass thinking I could muscle him is what kept me in jiu-jitsu. He had me at will in any position. I realized soon after he always laughed while rolling, he was just always having so much fun but I will forever remember the amount of big guys that would come and go from ego burn.

Hoping for a similar documentary about Ffion Davies. In my oppinion she and Mikey are the most underrated figures of todays jui jitsu. They should be honorary awarded as ambassadors of the sport. Both very hard working and technical and great persons to have around you. And not Brazilians which is also showing the international progress of BJJ.Great examples that the upcoming generation should watch and follow. The only thing is missing from the picture is Mikey winning ADCC. Hope he plans it for the future since its the greatest prestige in nogi grappling (if his ONE FC contract allows it )

Then do the move in your imagination and keep repenting to the end. Its insane how well this works

21:03 "You have to train your mind in the conscious to get to the sub-conscious." Mikey is talking about achieving flow through repetition and then accessing the precise timing of execution by eliminating micro-momentary hesitations - distractions - which come from the sense-of-self (which resides in the frontal lobes). In those final seconds of the semi-final in 2017, he falls behind his opponent, hears his team cheering in the background, and that's when his true focus kicks, his frontal lobes go quiet, and flow takes full, unhindered control of his technique. I like this guy, he seems very genuine.

He's also like the most humble and respectful competitor EVER. Yet all the Brazilian competitors hate on him simply because he wins. Can you even imagine what that feels like for him. He literally invests his entire life into a sport centered around brazil. Is so amazing at it that he beats all the Brazilians, and then they $hit on him for it. Straight up, BRZ can piss of with that $hit. Give it ten more years and no one is going to care at all about Brazil because the Americans are going to win everything.

As an autistic dude, I'm watching this wandering if Mikey is autistic too. A few things jump out, his unique way of problem solving and the way he conveys it. The fact that he gets obsessed with getting it right, totally immersed in what he is doing looks like what would occur with a special interest. His confusion with regards to getting booed and him declaring he's not social, is also interesting. When I boxed it's was a similar thing, I watched hour upon hour of tape, then went back to the gym to see what did and didn't work for my body type. I always described it as high stakes chess, for me it was never about being tough, it was out-thinking the opponent. Just a few observations regarding Mikey.

Eff the haters. I absolutely LOVE Mikey. The Miyao brothers are legends, but they are not Mikey, period. Dude, Mikey is an icon. Honestly, he's way more of a superstar than them. I just fucking love Musumeci so much. God bless this dude. Fucking BJJ Straight LEGEND!!!!

I have a purple belt teammate who is very nice like Mikey. Whenever he catches a submission on us he always apologizes then taps us out lmao. “ I’m so sorry bro “. *proceeds to choke you out*

I love Mikey story. It’s raw especially when winning and having friends going against him. That’s life people don’t want you to win, Mikey is a inspiration for his courage and drive to win. He’s kind hearted. Someone like him would get torn up by the wolves of the world. I’m happy he has a strong support group his coach and team and family.

Mickey Always do your best and do not ever worry about others when your dominating! If people are not happy with you for being a champ then use that as fuel and Keep letting them hate and at one point or another they will come around!

Mikey is probably the most interesting man in bjj. He's such a freaky genius, he does things that you'd never think of and does them effortlessly. The thing he was saying about making moves unconscious was amazing, never heard anyone describe it like that before

Needed showing holds and maneuvers longer and in detail. Nice production except for those weaknesses.
