And it did have consequences for Sisko. He wasn't allowed to be with Kasidy after the war. At least this is how I interpret the statement that the Sisko won't find any rest on Bajor. And I interpret Sisko's pagh following another path as foreshadowing his decision to fight at Chin'Toka any marrying Kasidy against the prophets' warnings. I guess the writers didn't have it in mind when writing SoA but this is my personal interpretation of all of this.
In Star Trek Online, it turns out that the Dominion fleet wasn't destroyed, or didn't simply vanish. The Prophets caused the fleet to emerge from the wormhole about 35 years in the future.
That's gotta be a kick in the ass for the fleet, emerging from the wormhole to find their entire command structure gone from the alpha quadrant, their enemies far stronger and smarter than they were when you last encountered them, and zero reinforcements coming to help.
I always found it odd how readily Weyoun and the Founder accepted the "disappearance" of their ships. Wouldn't they want to know how Sisko managed to pull it off, to avoid it in the future?
At the time the Dominion were winning the war greatly, and fully expected to replace those ships easily. The entire Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant was building ships at a massive rate. They were in a war economy and war production. Even losing this fleet didn't mean much. They could probably remake that fleet in a week (remember the Dominion was sending large fleets through the wormhole every week before Sisko mined the Wormhole). The Founder thought that they could still win this war even without reinforcements - even if it took a bit longer. And she was right. The Dominion came extremely close to winning. If not for a few things going wrong, the Dominion probably would have still won. She was Immortal. No need to rush the war. But Only when the Founder became sick did she turn very bitter, and her decision making became questionable. She used to believe since she was Immortal that she had all the time in the world to win the war. But then she got sick. So she wanted to win the war before dying and pushed her subordinates way too hard and alienated the Cardassians into wanting to quit the Dominion. Before she got sick, she was willing to take the war slow and grind down her enemies. Using her Changeling spies and agents to sabotage the alliance. It was the sickness that really affected the Founder's mental health. Plus. I think the Founder didn't want to get involved or acknowledge the idea of the Bajoran "gods". She had a superiority complex and it would be admitting to her troops that other gods existed. She didn't want to contaminate the Dominion with such thinking. Only the Founders were gods and no one else was acceptable. So she probably told herself they were lost in some freak accident, wrote off the fleet in her head, and moved on
The Founders NEVER viewed ANY solid as an equal .... so "alienating" the Cardassians was never their concern. The Cardassians, as far as they were concerned, were fodder for the conquest of the entire Alpha Quadrant. The Federation and the Klingons were the only ones that actually "stood up" to the Dominion the whole time (remember the Romulans signed a NAP with the Dominion, which Benjamin Sisko and Garak lied to get the Romulans to abandon it ... one of the only ways that the Dominion didn't trounce the quadrant anyway). other than that ... this comment is virtually flawless.
@@TheBigExclusive In other words what a god has no explanation for it ignores. You're correct. Acknowledging the existence of the Prophets would undermine their religious structure. Up to then the Prophets were still considered fables and the orbs objects of curiosity especially by the Cardassians.
They nearly lost anyways. This miracle didn't end the war. The Dominion would be able to replace the ships and crews in a few months. @@Dr.Claw_M.A.D. The Borg hindered the Q? When? They did it with TNG and it cost too much so I don’t think they will do it with DS9 or Voyager. Which sucks because it would be cool to see those two shows in high definition
@scottty795 The wormhole magicked the enemy fleet away. That's exactly what happened. No learning can be done that makes that lazy, deus ex machina writing any good.
@@holden88 The prophets stopped the ships from exiting the wormhole at the request of their Emissary. Given they are non-linear beings with who knows what kinds of abilities, it's not unreasonable that they would be able to pull off such a feat. As for being a Deus Ex Machina? No. A Deus Ex Machina is a device that is used to resolve the plot that has no previous connection to the narrative. Left out the best part, when the 200 ships of the Federation and the Klingons are approaching.
Weyoun: "Time to start packing!"
"Founder, 200 enemy ships have broken through our lines!"
CGI that really holds up even 30 years later.
I believe they still used mostly miniatures at this time.
Still practical effects used here
That is all practical. Check Babylon 5 for CGI at that time.
@@SilverlightliveActually, the battle itself is all CGI.
Same with the wormhole.
Why can't CGI show the Federation fleet warp past Dominion forces straight to DS9?
Brings back memories of video taping this at my parents house and then watching it at the weekends
"One ship against an entire fleet? That's a hell of a Plan B."
Two Ferengi saved the Alpha quadrant.
Deus ex machina.
It’s worked for millennia in all theater.
I love it. 👍👍
I really like that this show didn't abuse it. It can only be used ONCE. This is only show I know of that got away with using it twice.

And what's a crying shame is that they didn't make a TFO that would have a team of 2409-vintage ships take on that entire fleet.
This could have been a season 4 for Picard
Not a bad idea actually.
I loved that story line in STO!

What always cracked me up about these battles is that space is 3 dimensional they could just warp down and then go straight and come back up lol.
This is a spiritual comment, the ego is always trying to control🙏

If it wasn't for the worm hole aliens the Federation would have lost hard.

There were a few instances where the AQ should have been in the Dominion's control.
Starfleet would win anyways. Section 31 guarantees it

When your plot armor is at 100%
add a game genie with all cheats activated
It's about time the Prophets came through for Bajor!
Seems like preparing to fire is foolish. Should have enabled the self destruct and prepared to destroy the wormhole
By this point the wormhold had been heavily reinforced so that it was virtually indestructable. The Changeling Bashir had seen to that.
closure 😵 all i want is some closure from this show. They just left us all hanging 💔
Aaaah that’s just a flex from “big nerd” just to remind us all who’s in charge
PEW! PEW! PEW! BING! BANG! BOOM! LORD, I LOVE A GREAT SPACE BATTLE! STAR TREK RULES!!!

Still waiting for them to re-release DS9 with all the usual clean up tech. I hope they are doing it. I'd pay.

The right Bird of Prey lost a wing and crashed into the battleship and brought it down.
Sto'vo'kor he we come!
Image what everyone msut have been tbinking? Dont mess wirh the Sisko
Why wouldn't they just warp out instead of engaging them? Like... just warp in to DS9 directly.
I thought the same thing
Because Admiral Holdo wasn't in command of the Defiant! ;)
Warp isn't like Hyperdrives. Ships can be pursued and destroyed while at warp.

I never understood the love for DS9. "Lets just have the wormhole magic the Dominion fleet away". Good grief.
Thank you! The worst of the Trek series!
It was a good series overall. But simply wiping away the dominion fleet never sat well with me. Such a cop out.
Maybe go learn what happened?????
