Hey George! Glad you took the time to deconstruct this! I watched this entire stream but I forgot to take notes and was dreading rewatching it, forgot that he used a flanger on the reverb and I gotta say, it does indeed sound really nice. Keep making these!
So he puts the s1 on the vocals in parallel, but a dry vocal itself is just a mono track. The s1 won’t make it stereo (if it’s not phase shifting the track or delaying one side. And if i know it right, it does not do that). This means Ali has to put something on the main vocal track before sending it out to a parallel one. Then of course put on the s1 and the reverb. Do you know what he uses on the main tracks to make them stereo? Thank you♥️
This message is for Ali do you have any templates I could purchase I got like 100 songs I’ve recorded but need helping to get mixed and maybe you have a hood template starting point
Because its supposed to simulate a room he puts it on to kinda of put the vocal in that space and bake it into the vocal so to speak. Basically putting the space in the vocal as supposed to putting the vocal in the space. Check out th-cam.com/video/qIob85ZZbec/w-d-xo.html at 1:06:55 a good explanation of why this is
@@georgetmusic That's exactly why you would do it on a send. Horrible explanation. The actual reason is because you are looking for a non-organic sound that was very common in early super extravagant studios that had more than just a single space.

Bro these videos are very good but I must say- You sound very uninspired. It’s as if you just woke up and someone is making you voiceover this video against your will. I’m saying these because it’s important, many people are likely to exit the video because of that, which is a shame because the content is great. thats crazy
@@georgetmusic what is the preset he uses on the flanger ???
I thought I was crazy using chorus to add some depth on my main vocals. Glad to see this. Keep the videos coming. Thanks
Using flanger and chorus is becoming very common. You’d be surprised at the tricks guys like Ali use

Is he using the stereo meta flanger on mono vocal tracks or making the vocal tracks stereo?
I believe he used it on kendricks vocal track which was stereo

Wow!!!
Does anyone know why he insists on using the plate reverb as an insert directly on the vocal, rather than sending it to an fx bus?

Vocal itself
what about the fact that he has an analog ssl board! thats the depth! INSTANLY! HARDWARE
Yea it def gives him that extra advantage. He praises using the board bc it gives him so much more headroom

Hard to recreate ali’s mix...
Everything sounds 3d because off the board...
I think of the board as the extra 5-10% in his mixes. But a lot of it is ITB especially effects

Question for anyone, so I’m assuming he’s putting the drum air on the vocal directly, and then is still sending out to a reverb? Is that right?
