In My opinion No mastering engineer is going to make the any Big difference of the Way listeners is going to perceive the music. As long as the mastering engineer is professional, any engineer is gonna deliver a good master. All credits to Kendrick and Ali for making this amazing music

When he enables that EQ boosting at 800Hz & 1.6kHz (I'm assuming by +1dB each), the vocal's midrange comes right to the front. It's so satisfying hearing him enable it
It's crazy how much of a difference the mastering made. He did such a small amount of little tweaks, but it really made the song feel more "alive." The catch is you gotta know which little tweaks to make, lol. That's where they get you
it's so subtle it's not even noticable.... EXCEPT... it feels more "alive" or energetic when the master plays. can't describe it. that's why this guy's a master.

If people don’t really understand what changes mastering gives your music...it’s honestly a lot. Very important as well. Artists need their music listened to, meaning it has to perform or sound good in every situation, example - in your car, at the clubs, in your headphones or in a store. It needs to sound “radio ready” the sound really influences how well the song performs as well

Mastering engineers are a whole nother breed. The way that carefully applied EQ can bring such great presence to the vocal and stop it hiding behind the piano, especially after the mixdown stage is true talent.
I feel like the better the mix, the less there is to worry about in mastering and also if you're listening on low end headphones/speakers you're less likely to notice the difference between a fantastic mix and the final master
So many artists today don't give a damn about good mix/mastering it's astonishing. So many albums has jarring sound and not for aesthetic but just because they didn't care outside of picking loud instrumental

While I prefer a quieter master, and hate the loudness wars, I don't discredit or blame a mastering engineer for conforming. Many studies have been conducted that show people perceive something as higher quality if its louder. So in that sense, it is competitive.
A great mix and master can change the entire vibe, the energy, everything. At the end of the day can make a good song worst, or exploiting the potential massively

That's GOT to be a challenge with mastering- To A-B where the B is obviously gonna be louder, but you have to do your best to still pick up on the clarity difference between the two.

Didnt have my first properly mixed and mastered song until 25..5 years away from the age that "artists dont get signed" aka 30, isnt the industry such a wonderful, magical place? Meanwhile, people starting their first startups in their 30's, going on sharktank with new inventions, just breaking out as comedians, photographers, switching careers. Music industry 30 years old = 90 years old. Wonderful

I just picked up DAMN on vinyl and it sounds great. It is bass heavy, but soundstage/imaging are fantastic, and bass can be rolled off a little on my system.

I mix and master my own music, and seeing the top of the top explaining how they do what they do is so inspiring man, thanks internet for existing bro, 20 or 30 years ago you would't be able to see this kind of stuff, I feel blessed on learning from the people behind such big records, thanks to "Mix with the masters" for real, keep doing what ya'll doing!💪🔥
I just picked up DAMN on vinyl and it sounds great. It is bass heavy, but soundstage/imaging are fantastic, and bass can be rolled off a little on my system.
I wish I could hire this dude.
