  • What are the reasons why Bakewell is one of the best places to live in the United Kingdom? My attention has been drawn to the town of Bakewell since the time I found it on my subscribers' list as one of Britain's best towns to live in. I, however, have been unable to do justice to the small market town located in the Dales of the county of Derbyshire which is some 21 kilometers southwest of the city of Sheffield. I found a lot of interesting things about the town and I can only deal with those things if I dedicate an entire video to the town located in the southeastern corner of the Peak District National Park. Therefore, follow along as I show you 10 reasons why Bakewell is one of Britain’s best towns.
    1. Countryside
The first thing that caught my attention was the countryside. It made no serious impression on me when I first read about that in an article in The Sunday Times of September 2019. The journal then described the attractions and allures of living within the town in the Peak District National Park and Derbyshire Dales. Now, I vividly remember the attractiveness of those stone cottages, green valleys, and rugged moorland. Yet, that’s not all there is to be remembered about the countryside Bakewell. Imagine living close to this natural and waking up every day to the sight of bright sunrise appearing over the mountain. I'm sure you’d want to consider such a town one of the best towns to live in Britain.
    2. Good and independent schools
Other reasons you would love to live in Bakewell are its schools and their quality. As small as the town is, it has great schools. Three of its principal primary schools enjoy top ratings in England. And its Lady Manners School stands tall among its peers, judging from the performances of its students and products. To affirm the quality of its schools, search out the Bakewell CofE Infant School at Bath Street and see its “Good” inspection rating. Child 1st (Bakewell) Day Nursery at Derbyshire House, which is childcare on non-domestic, also has an equally good rating to help you care for your kids’ formative years. Pilsley CofE Primary School at Pilsley Village and Bakewell Methodist Junior School are examples its primary schools that are doing so great. You can also talk about the independent St Anselm’s Preparatory School and College. This cares for pupils aged 3-16.
    3. Shopping
I guess you want to live in a town where you won’t have a hard time or need so much travel to shop. Great! Bakewell is one of the best Britain’s towns to live in if it is the shopping you’re after. This little town is replete with these as they're packed to the rafters with gifts and crafts. You could easily pick up practical and functional gears that also function outdoor. Your kitchen accessories and photographic services are at your fingertip. You don’t need to look any further. Bakewell is a shopaholic’s delight where you’ll get more than you bargain for. In fact, you could spend days in just one shop if you have the luxury. You’d love, for example, Granby Arcade, for the unusual. With many unique boutiques, art galleries, and gift items, you will certainly be able to find something hard to come by elsewhere.
    4. Road connections
The town of Bakewell is well connected by road, thanks to its location in the north of the Midlands. It is adequately served by the motorway network.

There is no direct rail link to bakewell as the railway station was closed by doctor beeching in the 1960s.

The researchers of this video need to get their facts right.
Rail transport is non existent. There is no direct link, it lost its rail link in 1968.
Road access can be tedious and it is many miles from the nearest motorway.
As for the busiest town in Derbyshire, I think the people of Buxton Chesterfield Glossop and Matlock would disagree with that.
House prices are also the highest in Derbyshire.

Bakewell sold it's soul many years ago. Yes it's a lovely place, but it has little integrity. Where are the old families? Forced out by wealthy commuters and retirees. It's not really a Derbyshire town anymore - other than providing seasonal work for people from Matlock, Buxton and Chesterfield, what does it do for us?
It's a place people buy houses so they can say they've "made it" and bought a house in the Nation Park - whilst us locals have to leave the town (and villages) where we've lived for generations to make way for gentrification.
You can keep Bakewell nowadays - it's just a plastic pastiche of what it used to be.

Is that mystic old man, John Butler, a real local lad?

Please forgive my rudeness, but what a load of claptrap……on all but one of those points you raised. That was the countryside!! Btw the pictures/vids used to show the bakewell pudding were not of the bakewell pudding actually made here….and that’s just the tip of the iceberg with this production!!

Locals will always view a place differently from any tourists/ visitors! Went to Bakewell a few weeks ago . Still a lovely , unspoiled town with lots of character and a diversity of shops and other attractions! Hasn’t changed much since I first went there back in the 1980s! 👍🤓🧁

I strongly disagree!! Not changed much since the 1980’s!! Apart from the cattle market been moved total redevelopment of the Granby Croft area to allow a “supermarket” in, this in turn killed off the true centre!! Every shop since the 80’s has changed several times, with fewer outlets actually catering to the people who actually live here!! In the 80’s there were no charity shops today we have coach company’s providing maps of the town centre showing where the charity shops are!!! Families are been forced to move away due to a lack of anything remotely affordable. Please show me which part of bakewell has remain unchanged since the 80’s!!

Be warned be people, what he doesn't tell you is, it's very expensive to live in Bakewell , the shops aren't cheap either. The country side is the only good thing about living in Bakewell
