Thanks for this video. A lot of the areas you mentioned are in general very similar prices to the prices in Greater London. Hitchen and Gerard’s cross are most expensive to live in than a lot of Greater London too. Travel costs also come in to play. Getting to London (ie kings cross / Paddington) from these areas costs a lot of money. Even just for the day.

Problem is the money saved on the house rent is offset by the commute cost. From Maidenhead to London is like 350/month, unless you can work from home. And if you are two persons that's 700-800 for a family
You can get a 1 BHK in one of the London boroughs like Newham or Redbridge for around £1200 so there is no need to move out of London. Avoid Central London and West London and try and stay is East or North London for cheaper rent. There are metro trains from East to Central which takes just 20 mins
I currently live in Cambridge and commute to Central London for uni. It's very nice but the commute is really expensive, I pay only a little less for transport costs compared to what I used to pay for student accommodation (and live with my parents so I have no extra rent costs). However, a lot of people from the Cambridge area commute to London. In the future I plan to live in Royston (Hertfordshire), it's a pretty and historic town and in the middle of the train route between Cambridge and London, so there are good transport links to both.
So True...You can never win if you are working in London..No matter where you live...you are struggling with Money.. if you are working in Central London and thinking of living in the outskirts even 30 min commute the travel seasonal tickets are £5k and over..so in reality what you might think you are saving on rent is actually going out as Commute. Ashika, this is an interesting video about London's commuter towns. As someone who had lived around London for over 35 years, and been a homeowner near St Albans for over twenty years, (5:50) I found your opinions a lot to think about. Would you please disclose the sources for all the things you say in this video? As of 1st May 2023, you have not put the sources in the description for this video. (1st May 2023).
This video is true. We are living in London Zone 2 area for the past 3 years at the time of this comment and moving to St Albans in few days. 1 bed flat in good areas low crime London Zone 2 -3 will cost over 2k+Council tax+car parking (if new build flat)+tube. Whereas commuter towns will cost much lesser including train fare with the rail card. Very few people in the UK go to work all 5 days. London rent is crazy in summer and increases by 2 folds every year due to huge demand for housing. For the same rent in commuter towns. We can live like a affluent with access to everything. Much better if one can drive. There is no point in comparing some Zone 4-6 areas of London with these towns. Outer zones has it's own limitations and which is common in all developed cities. Trains are much faster than tubes. London to St Albans fast train journey 18 mins for £ 6.5 one way. I'm sure tube will cost more than this, when we travel from Zone 5 to 1 and time consuming.
We lived in Reading for over 18 years and now in Berlin but plan to move back to the UK. We don't want to move back to Reading and considering Maidenhead, I have been around few times but can't say I know it very well. How is the diversity, it's very important for us that our son goes to school and play with other black & brown children.
I would advise first to identify exactly which main station ( Paddington is just one of several) is best for the place you need to commute to. For example, it might be Kings Cross, St Pancras, London Bridge, Liverpool St, Waterloo or Victoria are much better for connecting you to your work or Uni.
Amazing video, Great for those who have to go into London once or twice a week, not more. I'm also moving out of London to Milton keynes, one of the other places that could have been covered in this video. It's about 35 mins to Euston in the fastest train. A two day weekly commute (national rail only) will cost about £70 and that's £280/month.
Interesting you mentioned Maidenhead, may consider it especially if its safe. Had a look at the train tickets, it makes a big difference too. It's like 1.5K cheaper per year then Reading. And it has roughly the same property prices too.
London is very expensive but on the other hand living outside is also expensive. The entire South East is very expensive & to add to that train fares from outside London are also expensive.
@@oanalesnic79 The entire South East economically is a drag. Not just London. It’s better for example if you live outside London like Chelmsford & work in Southend or within Chelmsford. You don’t really than feel the travel problem.

You cant make it from Maidenhead to London Paddington in 23 mins. Its 30 mins on the GWR Didcot Parkway Service (every 30 mins) but cancelled at times & 37 mins on the Crossrail services. The GWR High speed services DONT STOP at Maidenhead & run non stop between Reading & London Paddington & they take 25 mins & always have done through out the years.
There's a train from Maidenhead tomorrow morning at 9:05. It will reach at 9:25. That's 20 mins. 3 whole mins less. There's also one at 8:31 which takes 19 mins.
@@AbsolutelyAshika Those are the Peak Class 1 that run between 0632-0905 & don't run throughout the day or weekends. Granted its 25 mins on the Class 2's with 1st stop Slough. Good analysis but I would add to this if you work in London you will spend what ever you have saved in your rent and I’ll spend twice that amount on fares. Hey Ashika, isn't it Bristol Bristol Cabot Circus in the video at 6.46min
Thank you very much for this video. I was searching for this kind of content from a very long time on youtube. I'll be moving to London with family (2 yr old daughter) and not sure where to look for the accommodation. My office is near to London bridge and I don't want to spend much on the rentals. Could you suggest some areas which work in my case?
@Absolutely Ashika, can you please share your same thoughts in 2023? We are coming down there and looking for similar option in outer London
I like how you includ the crime rate.. Ty for the video
Glad it helped Nam.
@@AbsolutelyAshika glad you made the vid
I’m graduating in September 24, and will be hunting for jobs. Currently I’m staying in Sheffield with university accommodation. And will be moving to new city soon. Please suggest which city I should consider where I can easily get job as well something that’s budget friendly and safe.
Great list but I would have gone with Reigate over Redhill. I have worked and lived in both. 😊
Thanks for sharing Faraz!
Amazing vid Ashika, learning alot

Thanks for the nice video Ashika. Could you tell me from where you found the crime statistics of these areas? Thanks
So different ,so refreshing. Grt video👍🏻
Thanks a lot. Hope it helped. 😊
Good luck getting somewhere cheap in St Albans or Sevenoaks!
You know, I tried really hard in St. Albans but hardly any properties came up and when they did, they agent put us into a bidding war.
When new session in school starts ? 11class admissions in school what is process?
Very insightful, thank you.
Glad it helped Nemama!

Thank you so much Ashika for this video. Really informative and helpful. Do you have any idea about croydon area?

Not a good place to live if you have kids

Keep up the good work! Your english is fabulous. Amy reason you did not consider Watford?
Hi Saumil. Thank you! The commute from Watford seemed longer than Maidenhead hence. Do you recommend it?
@@AbsolutelyAshika There’s a non stop train to London Euston from Watford junction that takes 15-20 minutes. Its safe, has good schools, property prices are similar to Reading. Only problem I see is its not very beautiful like other areas you have covered in your video
This is so, so helpful. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video .
Just gained admission into conventry University London.
Pls i need a precise suggestion on the area to get affordable accommodation.
Not so familiar with all these place .
But wont mind if you can suggest an affordable neighbourhood.
Thanks
What about Sussex? I would love to know more about Sussex as I am considering it
Hi Ashika, Thank you for your video.I am IT Professional and need to choose between Hitchin and Stevenage, Can you please suggest which is better for Education, health and safety.
Education for my child, mean better school.
Great Information! Please keep up the wonderful work 👌
Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching Pankaj!
Hi Ashika it’s a really informative video thanks. Please can you tell me the post codes in Maidenhead which are really good and near to groceries, town and public transport
Hi Vyshna, Maidenhead isn't very big so nothing is too far away. If you are looking to be centrally located, you could consider SL6 6EU- its close to many schools. Or you can live close to the high street which is SL6 1PY. And thank you for the kind words.
Hi Ashika my office is in Wokingham RG40 Berkshire, I wanted to look for accomdation studio or 1bhk flat which is near to it and the place should have all shops, nightlife etc so where should I search ? Budget 650 - 750 GBP per month
Hi Ashika, thank you so much, your videos are always so informative.
Please for someone who would be working in horsham, what affordable areas would you advise with easy commute to horsham, somewhere with good schools please?
Horsham is lovely and there are lovely villages within 15/20mins drive
How about Milton Keynes?
absolutely nice information ashika.
Thank you for the kind words Anil 🙏
Hi, Are there major food, gas and fuel issues in UK?Is it safe to move there at the moment
I think you are staying in central London as I am staying in a 1bhk flat in Harrow that's 1275 a month. I do agree with you that London is really costly.
Yeah the numbers were for central London. Do you recommend staying in Harrow? Would help folks who are planning on moving.
Good analysis but I would add to this if you work in London you will spend what ever you have saved in your rent and I’ll spend twice that amount on fares. If you have enough money to move to the UK I would suggest you stay wherever you are because life would be much easier. For example, in Idea you can afford maids in the UK you have to be a millionaire to do that. So think again.
Maidenhead
St Albans
Faversham
Reading
Redhill
Sevenoaks
Guildford
Hitchin
Gerrards Cross
Epping
Hi didi... I've been watching ur videos and would like to get a suggestion from you. Im new to UK n currently staying in London since I came on a student Visa to pursue my Masters and never knew that dependants were not allowed. I have a kid of age 2 yrs...N many people r suggesting me to go back leaving all the fee paid n everything...
How are the schools?…are there good schools which have a curriculum as good as IB schools
Would highly recommend Cookham.
Cookham is great. I agree.
Where are the areas in the UK that have clearest easy-to-follow english accent for international students
Hi Ashu. Thanks much for video.
Thanks for watching Akalya!
Hi...good info, how about Sunninghill ascot? It is in berkshire but just being area specific. TIA
Come to Stevenage. We have an Iceland, may bettering shops and nail salons. The crime rate is as low as 950 per 1000 residents. The wildlife is incredible, we have 15 different species of rat.
Thank you for sharing this!
Excellent review. Very informative
So glad it helped Emma!
Thank you so much, helpful ♥️
Glad it helped!
Very helpful video, thank you so much but the biggest problem is travel costs outside London😏😏
I know it's too bloody expensive
Still Rent is much in Maidenhead ?
Nearest village Nearest London?
Really, well actually I'm from London and believe you me rents are not that high. People there so are many reasonable places to live around London. Do your research guys!!
Hi Hina, most numbers were actually cross referenced with govt websites but I guess there's bound to be differences as they are averages anyway.
Hi Hina, Can you please suggest some places ?
@@varshh_ yeah. Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Chatham, High Wycombe, Epping, Sutton, Slough.
@@hinamalik135 Thank you so much !! ❤️ if you dont mind, can I ask one more question ? I heard that in London, there are some places where indians are concentrated and some places where there are no indians at all . Is it true ?
@@varshh_ hi, that's not entirely true. But places like southall there are a lot of Indians and Pakistani people that's like mini India/Pakistan and in other places I wouldn't say no Indians a all, because I have seen a lot Asians everywhere I go. 😉
Nice video and it's more useful
Thank you for the kind words.
Hi Ashika! Hmmmm nice info as always! Ashika I m still waiting for your video on teaching opportunities in UK, all the best good luck for your future projects, love from Pakistan 😊👍🇵🇰
Hi Sameer, haven't forgotten. Will come shortly :)
If someone is teacher in India how to continue in uk
If your company is based in London, best to live outside London and work from home.
Hey there, you are right but many companies don't offer WFH anymore unfortunately.
@@AbsolutelyAshika WFH is becoming normality companies who do not offer suffer with recruitment. Going forward WFH will be the norm as this happens, living in London is no longer necessary.
Hi Ashika, Any particular reason why you didnt include Slough in your list ??
Hi Sam, I happened to stumble upon some mom blogs which maintained that Slough was not the safest when you had young children so I decided to steer away. I can’t be sure how true that was but just to be on the safer side, I decided to give slough a miss.
Are Watford kyu Nahi hain list mein?!
Great content 👍
Hi Ashika, can you please review Stevenage as well? Thank you in advance
Hey Sam, I'll def try and share something on this soon.
how to check for school if it a good one or not?
At what class does it start to matter the quality of school ?
So Ofsted reviews schools every now and then and I know there are a lot of mixed reviews about schools but there’s no other fixed way to measure them unfortunately. They rank schools into outstanding, good etc. The other way is to take a tour of the school and evaluate its facilities for yourself, read bulletin boards etc. I think you should worry about the quality of a school from day 1 to be honest and not wait till the kids get older.
