Hello! In today's video I had a few hours to have a gentle explore around the beautiful and charming town of Bakewell in The Peak District. We were on our way to Chatsworth House to view the christmas market there, but had recently been told just how gorgeous Bakewell is by a friend, so thought I would pop by and have a little walk around.
I found Bakewell to be so lovely, and definitely want to go back to explore even more of Bakewell, and the surrounding areas. If you know of any wonderful walks, cafes, restaurants, shops, and even a place to rest my head for the night, please let me know in the comments below.

Is kopkops a sweet that's really difficult to find for sale anywhere these days?
I'm pretty sure Bakewell is at the lower end of the Monsal Trail, which is a disused railway line converted into a walking/cycling route. It still has the old stations on it, quite odd walking through platforms. Some have been converted into shops and cafés. The trail runs over a bridge section which is very Hogwarts Express looking, but you have to leave the trail to get a good look at it.
It's about 8 miles long, so it's far more practical to do by bike than on foot if you want to do the whole length. And as the lower end, it's noticeably uphill from Bakewell, not steep, but constant.
Oh my gosh, that sounds amazing! I defiitely want to do that walk. I love the thought of coming across platforms and having a cup of tea in one of the cafes. I will have to look into bike hire in the local area so I can do it all. Thank you so much for the fantastic suggestion!
@@rhi-defined There was a bike hire place right at the top (other) end of the trail, I can't remember the name of the area or the firm though. It was fairly remote with limited parking though.

When I was last there, there was a tiny museum and one of the things in it was a dried elephant foot. Did you see that?

Hello, oh I hope you have a great time. So I didn't manage to visit any restaurants, but one that I would love to try on my next visit is "The Woodyard". It has excellent reviews, a really tasty looking menu, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and has a lot of history. I also hear that a lot of the pubs in Bakewell do delicious hearty food, so that might be something to look out for.
Those padlocks are love lockets, not just people having put loads of padlocks there for no reason.
I wonder how many of those couples are still together.. not to be cynical, just curious
