I’m in my 6th week of training with my husband. I went to a trucking school last April and of course you only learn enough to pass the DMV test. I got my license. I’m owner operator with my husband and we have had this trucking business for seven years now. We have a dedicated run same thing every single day we own 2 trucks. I drive one of our trucks and we have an employee that drives the other and my husband is still a truck driver for the company that we haul gravel to. That was the stipulation from the owner of the plant. In order to get this run from them exclusively my husband had to stay there as their truck driver, but we were allowed to bring our own trucks in. I got my CDL last year because it was just costing way too much to have two drivers and we couldn’t really find a dependable good driver. Last July the plant that we haul gravel for had an explosion so that meant our business was down, as well as the planet. It was down for seven months. We just went back. About six weeks ago. And my husband resume training with me. This coming week I’m going on my last week of training with him and then I will be on my own. I’ve come so far in the last six weeks. My only regret is that I didn’t start when I was younger. I’ve been trucking about 31 months now and I’m still Truckin. I’m parked at a rest area as we speak on my 10 hour break in my whole life previously to truck driving the most I ever had in the bank was 10 grand And now I have 40,000 in the bank and I drive a car that I paid cash for that cost 15,000 I make about 65 grand a year take home which is about 30,000 a year more than I used to make. And I don’t even have the highest paid job. There’s jobs that pay more and I could make more doing what I do if I really wanted to go apeshit.
@@SourGrey it’s kind of like not knowing how to swim and jumping into a river is kind of what it was for me. I didn’t know anything about trucking. All I knew is that it sounded like something I might like and I thought about it for a long time, but I kept putting it off and then finally I just went for it went in the truck driving school and after I got my CDL I had a job like three days later doing flatbed but the whole time I wasn’t sure it was going to work out. I just went all in and gave it my best ever once in my life everything just seems to keep working out but it wasn’t like somebody was hooking me up I was putting in the work.

@@cecep7477 i’m still Truckin if you’re a hard worker and you make it a priority in your life that’s a good start. I can’t really give a lot of advice. I guess everybody has a different circumstance that brings them to trucking I think, but I think the one thing in common that makes a person successful out here is you have to be able to stay on the road, you have to be a hard worker and like long days and you have to be very very self reliant. You can’t be the type of person who needs help every time you have a problem you have to be able to solve problems on your own as you’re alone, most of the time.
As much as I love driving trucks, working for truck companies that don’t pay enough for the time we sacrifice away from family is not worth it. If you don’t have family or you don’t mind stay away from family definitely go ahead and do it don’t go over the road just do regional and come back home on the weekend, best wishes and stay safe!
I have been driving for 18 years but when I first started, it was very hard and stressful learning the ropes but I have it pretty good now because I get home every weekend and gets a brand new truck every year 😊
Love your channel and find you a inspiration for others that want to pursue this trucking life and travel. I am retired now and I drove 24 over the road years, no local, 48 states and Canada, 8 dry van , 8 reefer, 8 flatbed . I loved it and miss it now , I am 75 years old. I believe you are a positive influence and have the attitude it takes to stay safe and prosper . I always drove company trucks and wanted to buy my own .
I love to be a trucker, I am 40 years old and 20 years on de road, I did long distance for 14 years, South America and all over North Americas, but I am very handy my self, I understand a lot about crane, big machineries, construction and diesel mechanic, I don’t regret being a trucker, but if I could go back in time I was going to choose something more profitable, and use all of my skills I got growing up, but time is brutal don’t wait for nobody, then adult life it’s time consuming when comes to professional life and pays all bill and work hard to grow, financially and professional! My opinion now and advice to anyone who is young and trying to find a career or turn a hobby into a career, find the one you will use all of your knowledge to make as much money and grow faster, trucking industry doesn’t allow us to use other skills, to reapply in real life to make extra money!
Whats up Yusif, this is Luis. What's up my brotha. I started off 15 yrs ago and my first trucking job was with swift. Making .23 cents a mile. I stuck it out and got my own truck a year later and made better money. Back then was way cheap pay. Glad you're doing well brotha.

I recall your adventures and attitude comes to mind because with great strong awesome good attitude towards life in general, will make trucking that much more enjoyable!! In the good and bad times, just like in everyday life.
Also , dont forget that the real money comes when you are owner operator and you have your truck paid off, there is when the BIG bucks comes!!! Great video man
I remember when you started out on You Tube. Thank you for this update. As I said 3 years ago, you will succeed at whatever you do because you have a good work ethic
The advice about evaluating one's position in life is good advice. That crane guy has it good. He has weekends off doing 40 hours a week earning 85K a year. In trucking you if you want to succeed you will be working 10 hour days 7 days a week and your time off will be after doing this 2-3 months striaght to earn good money.
Just finished my first day of trucking school. I honestly feel a bit discouraged because everybody is passing the straight line test within the first day and here I am can't even back straight. I was about 2 hours in when I told myself alright lets try tomorrow. I definitely got better but still not 100% Hopefully the next day will be a lot better.
Good tips above, what worked best for me was turning into the trailer or “grabbing the trailer” Once you see that trailer start to drift left, turn your wheel left just hard enough to “grab it” then turn the wheel back center. All while gently applying pressure to the accelerator, you want to stay in gentle constant motion. Then vice versa for the right side. The goal is to keep an even amount of trailer in BOTH mirrors. You’ll do fine. Remember you’ll only learn just enough to pass your test, you’re real training begins on your first job!
I’m about to get into Hotshot as a Non-CDL Owner Operator…… this video is definitely a good “real” viewpoint of trucking….. I’m 21 so I think it’s a good time to get into it……

If you are young and decide not to go to college don’t waste your time at warehouse jobs get your CDL and you’ll make 70k-100k within 3 years. Don’t be scared the beginning will be tough but stay the course. I was able to buy a home my first year in trucking and traveI wherever I want through trucking and vacation. I will admit I realized I can’t do this forever because I have a family. So I’ve decided to drive for 2 more years which will complete 5 years total. I have a goal to start my own small trucking business. If you do trucking for 3-5 years trust me you can put yourself in a good position to do other things if you decide to stop trucking. Good luck 👍
70-100k a year ? Something ain’t right. As an owner operator you should be making minimum 10k a month on a bad month. And I’m talking net after expenses.
Yousif, I cannot wait to make the move into trucking. You are an inspiration sir! The life of a trucker it seems will suit me perfectly and because of your level head and wisdom and positive outlook, I am looking forward even more to start this journey and make the move overseas asap. Best wishes.

I don’t regret getting my degree either because i know more theories, have higher education than others, and most importantly i have something i can back up to. wish me luck!
I tell everyone: "I wish I had found trucking ten years ago!" I'm 57 years old, married, no children. I started at a local class A job 8 months ago and love it. Home every night, driving 300-500 miles a day, 10-12 hours per day on average. Over $90k annualized. It is perfect for me. My retired wife would like me home more, but I talk on the phone with her and text when not driving. ... Simply put, I love driving.

income for truckers is actually just minimum wage. The reason we make more money is the the amount of work and the time that we do it. Lots of overtime and shift bonuses. in Australia, driving 12 hours is equal to 12 hours of minimum wage.
Your Hot Shot Videos were the best, that is not to take away from what you are doing now, but your hot shot videos were more active and I felt like i was on the journey/road with you.
Just found your page so I am on hotshot vids as thats my starting plan. Thanks for the content! I am almost there... ran a service company for 13 years and sold it. Got a job in July and this is not me. Plan is to buy a Kaufman EZ4 and finance a RAM Tradesman. Have the capital to pay for the trailer and truck but I will just buy the trailer outright and pay off the truck the same way you did 3 years ago(again I am watching old vids still). Thats what I have done with all my trucks in the past.
So far its going well for you as a single young man but if you want to have a good well rounded life trucking is not a long term solution. The smart ones get in make there money and invest, then get out.
Yousif, I’m surprised you don’t get free food from fueling. I hit 1,500 gallons with TA, and get $17 voucher everytime i fuel which u can use for food, shower, parking
I make 38,000 a year but I also work a state job. And I only work four days a week but you can’t live in this economy making $38,000 year that’s why I’m fixing to take my CDL‘s over the road but it’s so hard to quit my state job after eight years.
Amazing video! I wish I saw this video 4 years ago lol I got my CDL, I was single, but I only lasted a couple of weeks. I got discouraged cause I had an "Ok instructor" he wasn't that bad in comparison to my school instructor but for the most part, was thinking about life back home. I've always played sports and moved around so I quit. But I love driving trucks, I pay attention to Trucking news, truck shows, etc. I'm in IT now, I make decent money and I work 40-50 hrs/week. Is funny to see ppl's reaction when they find out I got a CDL lol. Ngl in a perfect world I would drive 3-4 days/week and have the rest of the days off making 70k+/year, but I we all know that's not the norm at all lol.

Start trucking in Los Angeles...or California with so many DOT regulations and city ordinances is a big mistake. I moved to Texas about a year ago and here ain't no rules neither regulations, you can drive for ten hours straight without crossing any state line. My regret was....no moving here way back but hey I am doing very well. Saludos.
It’s a great job if you don’t have kids,wife,family…..but if you have responsibilities it’s gonna be hard. You can not take care of your family and watch what’s going on if you do OTR cuz you are working away from them.
with all respect to you you still have alot to learn in trucking even though you gave some common sense advice, to make it in this business you really need to be smart and prepared from your mechanical to parts to fixing your own truck, in terms of health i take 51 vitamin a day i cook in my truck healthy cooking i do blood work every 6 months and i know hwo to read them, i take zero medicine, you are honst at least you didn't say you make one million a month, i truly hate trucking even though i own 19 trucks, i see so many liers in the industry and so many dumb ass but we have quality drivers my advice be gentleman and help other truck drivers and stop lieng about hwo great and awesome you are,I'm a civil engineering graduate but i did this when things where good
Getting a degree is partly also a scam, just to make sure people get into debt. Paying huge amounts of money for education does not have any guarantee about your future position and income. The education business is great, because they don't have to guarantee anything. EDIT: this is not a vote against education and schooling of any kind, learning things is good, but you should really pay attention to what you are getting in exchange after you did all these loops and hoops in educating process paid with big sums of money, your money.

Lot of us just trying to be on your level. Good job sir.
@@SourGrey see one thing you can do that will give you an advantage is be dedicated and don’t complain and when you get started just know that it’ll be to your advantage. If you could stay away from home for about two or three months when I started, I was a trainee for about 23 days and then after that, it was Thanksgiving weekend and they asked me if I wanted to go home and all I could think was hell no I don’t want to go home what I wanted to do is get assigned a truck and that’s what I did and I spent Thanksgiving at a pilot, but I was happy that I had my own truck finally
This gives me so much hope I can’t wait to start school!
Or local..
Great advice man, I got into trucking about 7 months ago (OTR) and you pretty much hit the nail on the head with everything. Be safe out there man! the snow is melting, let’s get it 💪💰
Question... do I have to spend a month with a trainer after I get my cdl?
Thanks Yusif, you are always upfront clear and inspiring. Thank you.
Thank you, good advice. I’m 66 years old, former truck driver, I have found you make money on your dream. I loved trucking.
Great honest commentary...thank you Sir!
Great video Yousif I've been watching you from day one and I can tell that you are an educated guy God-bless
Thank you!
Thank you Yusuf for the honesty and the knowledge that you constantly give to those of us who want to learn more.
Going local and specializing was the best thing I ever did… home everyday, weekends off, time to go to the gym,
That’s the issue with me, I have to hit the gym, not an option
Just finished my first day of trucking school. I honestly feel a bit discouraged because everybody is passing the straight line test within the first day and here I am can't even back straight. I was about 2 hours in when I told myself alright lets try tomorrow. I definitely got better but still not 100% Hopefully the next day will be a lot better.
The secrete to backing is going slowly while checking your mirrors like a swivel. Nobody will yell at you for backing up slowly!
Imagine a line on the leftside of the trailer right behind the cab only use the left mirror. This line will tell you which way to turn ..
Turn steering 45degreez count 3 seconds etc
Good tips above, what worked best for me was turning into the trailer or “grabbing the trailer” Once you see that trailer start to drift left, turn your wheel left just hard enough to “grab it” then turn the wheel back center. All while gently applying pressure to the accelerator, you want to stay in gentle constant motion. Then vice versa for the right side. The goal is to keep an even amount of trailer in BOTH mirrors. You’ll do fine. Remember you’ll only learn just enough to pass your test, you’re real training begins on your first job!
@@20jallow some people do, but you shouldn’t mind them
Blessings to You bro. Stay safe
Very good information to pass on to new drivers. Your information was right on track!
Continued best wishes for your safe trucking lifestyle ! Your advice makes a lot of sense !
I’m about to get into Hotshot as a Non-CDL Owner Operator…… this video is definitely a good “real” viewpoint of trucking….. I’m 21 so I think it’s a good time to get into it……
Hello man I just seen your post it’s 11 months old, I don’t know why I have not seen you but I want you to know I really appreciate you and your videos, we started in 2019 as a hotshot then like you upgraded to 2 semi’s again I appreciate you.
I have been driving a year now and I love it. And that's exactly what I wanna do in the future. Pay Fram and live life to the fullest.
This is a rich and meaningful video.
Thanks a lot, brother, for sharing information about your experience in trucking.
Have a good day!
Awesome video and a lot of truth !!!
God bless you and stay successful!!!
I meant 70k-100k as an employee but I agree with you making more as an operator makes more money for sure.
Thank you for the eating tips! I'm going to look to see if you have a video of the set up for cooking in your truck. 💞
If you listened to him to the end, then you are university graduate. As a Trucker, I’m sure he gave out honest advice to all.
Trucking is nothing but headaches.the only good thing is seeing all 50 states and meeting new people.
Yousif, I cannot wait to make the move into trucking. You are an inspiration sir! The life of a trucker it seems will suit me perfectly and because of your level head and wisdom and positive outlook, I am looking forward even more to start this journey and make the move overseas asap. Best wishes.
Hey buddy, you really motivated me I’m now finishing up my first year trucking with my own company. I remember when you first started👍🏾🏁 Never stop grinding
I’m a mechanic engineer and going to become a truck driver. Starting my CDL school next monday! I currently work for a well known company but being a truck driver has always been my dream.
Awesome man, I’m 24 and just got my class A this past weekend. I’m looking to start with TMC as I want to run flatbed and I’ve heard they run a good program there!

Excellent talk:) worth the listen!
I'm 34 I'm in school i only regret not doing it earlier , i work at a warehouse almost 10 years and imagine with all these Experience and get treated like a temporary employee I'm worthless if I quit and go somewhere else I have to start from the bottom when I'm in trucking school I'm smiling it's like a therapy my friend at works says I never see you smile this much I can't wait to get my cdl and be left alone 🚚🚚🚚
income for truckers is actually just minimum wage.
The reason we make more money is the the amount of work and the time that we do it.
Lots of overtime and shift bonuses.
in Australia, driving 12 hours is equal to 12 hours of minimum wage.
That’s not always true. Minimum wage in my state is $11 per hour…my CPM works out to be about $30 per hour.
Your Hot Shot Videos were the best, that is not to take away from what you are doing now, but your hot shot videos were more active and I felt like i was on the journey/road with you.
Thanks for sharing your story. I am going for my cdl and I'm scared to death to back up and look stupid.
You have a strong mindset there is nothing on the face of the planet that would make me work 16 hrs a day 7 days a week
Thanks brother, you're so awesome, very honestly, I like that. 👍
The vibrations from sleepers would always help me sleep !!
Wise Words My Friend!
Great advice thank you and good luck to you my friend
Thank you!
So far its going well for you as a single young man but if you want to have a good well rounded life trucking is not a long term solution. The smart ones get in make there money and invest, then get out.
I agree with everything you said. I like your channel and God bless you.

Great tips brother!
Going on 1 year & 3 months with my license. Started with reefer and switched to local running Long Beach ports. My only “fear” is getting the process started for my own authority since rates are ehhhhh and truck prices are high!
How much do you average working ports?
Hint: Save your money until the economy truns around. Once that starts happening it will be okay to jump into trucking as a owner operater. Even then you want to save money for when the frieght market goes down like it is now.
Pulling boxes never really paid unless they had households or double stacked lambos ;)
Start trucking in Los Angeles...or California with so many DOT regulations and city ordinances is a big mistake.
I moved to Texas about a year ago and here ain't no rules neither regulations, you can drive for ten hours straight without crossing any state line.
My regret was....no moving here way back but hey I am doing very well.

with all respect to you you still have alot to learn in trucking even though you gave some common sense advice, to make it in this business you really need to be smart and prepared from your mechanical to parts to fixing your own truck, in terms of health i take 51 vitamin a day i cook in my truck healthy cooking i do blood work every 6 months and i know hwo to read them, i take zero medicine, you are honst at least you didn't say you make one million a month, i truly hate trucking even though i own 19 trucks, i see so many liers in the industry and so many dumb ass but we have quality drivers my advice be gentleman and help other truck drivers and stop lieng about hwo great and awesome you are,I'm a civil engineering graduate but i did this when things where good
Getting a degree is partly also a scam, just to make sure people get into debt.
Great video brother 💪
3 years exp. then COVID came. I did local which was great for me. Now that I have traveled the world some and started to learn how to trade, I wouldnt mind maybe doing OTR with my laptop making even more $$ I was never a fan of winter driving tho, but life is how you look at it. One love 🌠💓
just remember, 95% of day traders lose money, you only hear about the ones who claim to do well because that is their marketing scheme. Invest, don't gamble. Read the book "Rich dad, poor dad". Peace!
How’s your trading going bro?
