Back in the late 70’s I drove for a U S Mail contractor driving from Scranton Pa to Philadelphia Pa 5 nights a week on a scheduled run. And we had to follow the same motto as the mail persons. “Neither rain nor snow nor heat of day nor dark of night will keep these couriers from their appointed rounds” The only time we stopped was when the post office cancelled our runs , in the five and a half years I haul d the mail I think I was told to stay home maybe 4 times if that many. I learned a lot of winter skills driving in the inclement weather but the best was staying as alert as possible and aware of your surroundings and how your truck reacts. I did all this without anti lock brakes where you didn’t apply your foot brake until you applied your trailer brakes first all in a short nose White 9000
I've driven in quite a few blizzards, freezing rain, on Rhodes packed with a foot of snow that stayed there all winter etc and it is a scale.. Or group of skills. You really learn to feel the road and how to handle losing traction. Anti-lock brakes don't really help though in my experience. Play if you are using the brakes at all it is very lightly. I'm worried about these new trucks.. with things like Auto braking, emergency braking etcetera that override the driver. We had some with auto braking that would react to Bridges and slam on the brakes hard.. or see a car in another Lane in a curve and lock the truck up. The mechanics disabled all of that crap
I learned what real winter driving is in New England. I've driven through blizzards. Came down the mountain from Denver in icy rain. Spent a couple days driving the back roads in Rhode Island Maine and Massachusetts on good deep snow that stays there 3 months a year play and they don't even bother trying to clear. And the South where I live if there is an inch of snow they shut down the town for days. Up there if there's a foot of packed snow people are honestly confused as to why you would not drive like normal
When I went into Denver I thought it was one of the most beautiful city I have ever been in aspechlly with the mountains behind it oh it looked beautiful Frank Corbin 😊
Thank you 🙏🏼I don’t haul cheap freight. I’m in my way to Florida right now but I’ll be going empty all the way to TN or KY because everything out of Florida is cheap

I drove a truck over the road for 16 years and I actually drove a blue 379 Peterbilt just like you’re driving I named her “ No Tell Hotel “ lol …. Keep up the good work keep your head up.
Thank you very much for watching my friend 🙏🏼 These trucks really are amazing to drive. Not all that good in tight spaces but I think this will be my last truck before I retire or die. Take care and once again, thank you for watching.
I hate driving in that stuff. I ran into a bad winter snowstorm in Wisconsin last winter. It was -2 degrees gusting to 50 mph. I was very scared. I finally made it to abbyland travel center in Curtiss Wisconsin. I was praying to Jesus to keep me safe and warm. Be safe guy. And oh I agree with you about one giant California
I am a 66 yr old female, always wanted to learn to drive truck, double clutching seems like such a rad skill💪😄🎉. If i ever win the lotto, going to get a truck driving simulator!!!Love this vid, subbed!!!
I only used double clutch to get my license. Once you start driving you don’t really use clutch other than when you’re stopped and you’re about to take off. I float through gears as I’m driving. You can double clutch but you don’t have to. Floating gears is allot easier. I hope you win that lottery someday. Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it 🙏🏼
Thank you very much buddy. This generator has saved me a lot of money in fuel. I’ve only idled my truck for three hours this summer, while I was sleeping at one place because I didn’t have fuel for my generator.
@@OTRBandit So is the generator powering an A/C unit for you? Also, can I ask a question? This has bothered me and I have tried to understand the reasoning behind it. I will see video where truckers run the seat belts through the doors when they shut down at night. Even seen one where someone had rigged it with the pull cord for the horn. Why is this happening? Doors have locks, so trying to understand the need for this.
@@jflan8536 That’s just TH-camrs who are doing it to get views. Nobody I know, and I know a lot of truck drivers have ever done that seatbelt thing or even the cord for the air horn. These trucks have locks and you would need a crowbar to break into one of these. They are just putting themselves in danger When they put that seatbelt around the door handle. If they needed to run out to Truck real fast, they won’t be able to do it because that seatbelt is holding the door. Very dangerous and stupid thing to do on their part but they only do that for views like I said. This generator right here is for my portable stand up AC unit that I have in my truck. I use it so that I don’t have to idle my truck while sleeping. Saves me a lot of money in fuel.
@@OTRBandit Thank you so much for clearing that up. I hadn't considered the dangers if having to exit in a hurry, but you bring up a great point. I seen several videos with people doing that and really racked my brain trying to understand it. I even went so far as to think maybe the sound of an idling truck makes it difficult to hear folks jockeying the door. Thanks for clearing that up. Another question if I may...You see it alot nowadays, more than before I think. But alot of drivers stopping or parting on on and off ramps...is this because of electronic log books. As in hitting the allotment and just needing to find a place to stop immediately. Where I live in AL we dont have alot of truck stops along I65, but I have seen this too up into TN and GA.
@@jflan8536you’re very welcome buddy. Parking issue has allot to do with ELD. When that time runs out, drivers have to stop. Some try to plan their routes so that they can park at truck stops but planning is not a very good option here. Traffic and bad weather will always mess up your plans. I think we should be allowed to park at on ramps at every interstate and that would solve allot of parking problems but we should not be allowed to park on exit ramp because people are driving fast when exiting the interstate.
I used to haul out of Denver. I kept a tub of cat litter & ice melt. Came in pretty handy more times than I can count, especially when backing into a trailer that has ice and packed snow in front of the landing gear. Gotta give those drives tires a little help 😁

I always get paid as if I was doing round trip when I go to Colorado or Florida for example. Let’s say, I pickup a load out of Denver and I’m taking it to Hannibal Missouri. 800 miles, I’ll probably get paid $800 maybe $900 max. I deadhed 450 miles to Hutchison, KS and pickup a load of salt to Hannibal for $1200 for 450 miles. I have put myself in financial position to where I don’t have to haul cheap freight. I used to haul cheap freight but I don’t have to anymore. It would break my heart to have to haul that less than a dollar load. Sometimes not is better than something.
Every Thursday I'm driving there, but I stop at the 31 at Loves on my ŵay to Denver. A few of us run dedicated to Denver, then down to Texas and back east. Not looking forward to winter, and you, my friend, have reminded me it's coming before I know it. 😂
Thanks, you too! It gets really bad here in some places but I try to avoid those as much as possible. Every now and then I run into snow but I don’t like it.
He is in the wrong part but parts of Colorado are the most beautiful place on the planet. If you remember those old westerns where they're riding through the canyon s .. that is in Colorado and you drive trucks through them it is absolutely amazing
God’s word says he didn’t really die. He just went to live somewhere else. The word of God says we are all going to live forever somewhere. Our feelings won’t change that. I have no reason to believe that I will see my brother again.
Ya gotta learn some time... It gets easier after a couple seasons! I run Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Iowa during the shitty times!! Hammer down when loaded. And usually ride the rumble in no vis! Stay safe, driver!!

This is very lonely job, ex trucker here over 30 years of being my own boss? Right! All drivers are is a means to an end.companies don't care, but need a economic way of distribution they goods ,truckers are still cheaper and safer after all these years. Had 2 great step dad's spend most of their life delivering goods across the United States, I mainly ran Southern states, my kidneys told me about 15 years ago I had to stop or die,so I stopped, guess what don't miss anything about it. Prayers for all truckers safety as you deliver America!
In Europe we got an organization who starts going from truck to truck on the highway or the truck stops with vehicles equipped like ambulances (to some level of course), providing the sandwiches and tea, asking you for some emergency when the police stop the traffic because of blizzards, snowing a lot, etc. They are volunteers, but every government support them for doing this.
I dunno how true this comment is considering how unsafe it would be for these volunteers to be wandering the snow-covered roads they probably are already stuck in looking for trucks and others stranded on the highways during a blizzard with almost no visibility. Especially at night. Depending how hard that wind is blowing you might not even see the end of your hood.
How its going man the guy in the pick up must be on something just cruising along right beside him like that and holding up traffic is crazy we can tell he don't know about trucking, YOU ALWAYS MOVE ON OR STAY BACK I'm glade y'all made it on through and pass that SMH PEOPLE GIVE TRUCK DRIVERS THE SPACE THEY NEED TO PROCEED, SAFE TRUCKING DRIVER 💪🏆10 4

It’s never too late to start driving my friend. I started when I was 21 but honestly, I wish I did something else other than trucking. If I could go back in time, I would have chose to do something else. Or I still might do it but I would have a plan to get out within 5 years.
No, sir. Semi trucks do not come with it from the factory unless you order it. I bought mine on Amazon for like $150 and it saves me so much money in fuel.

Riding with my dad when I was younger going thru flagstaff I had to ask how he knew we were still on the road because the snow had covered the road.. he said we are still upright and moving… funny little story I will always remember
He was right. As long as you’re still upright, that means that you are on the road my friend. Been a long time since I’ve been to Arizona buddy. I remember that interstate 17 going down to Phoenix was quite scary for a new driver like myself.
When I was running the big road, I would not take any load for less than $3. 00 a loaded mile just to cover me in case I had to deadhead a long distance to my next p/u. I’m 86 now 😮lol
Be careful with that gas generator I've had two friends die because of them strapped on the back of their truck get you a little diesel one has two advantages the fumes won't kill you and you can rig it to run off your tanks
I heard that there can be dangerous. I always crack my window open when my generator is running and I have two carbon monoxide detectors. I will definitely have to look into diesel generator. It would be allot more convenient to just tap into my fuel tank and not have to carry gas can around with me.
Put about 3 to 5 gallons of gas in each tank And as long as it doesn’t have any water in it nothing will freeze up make your truck run better off 😮 25:33 through that cool weather and it will also clean your injectors off
@@OTRBanditMake sure you get a PM on it every 1500-2000 hours. That thing will start smoking in the middle of the night and will definitely start getting loud.
@@OTRBandit Nice to see someone else using a generator. I've been running a 3800 watt Champion generator for about twelve years on my truck. In the winter time, I figure it saves me about $350 a week in fuel costs. I also run a diesel bunk heater and you're right, they sure do a nice job keeping the inside of the truck warm. I also don't think the noise is a problem. When I'm parked between two idling trucks, I can't even hear my generator running. I run up in North Dakota so there is many nights, in the winter, twenty to thirty below zero. I found a 15 gallon metal gas tank that I bolted to the top of my generator frame and teed into the gas line so my generator will run for about 3 days before I have to fill it back up with gas. I ran 2 extension cords inside the frame rails and one goes up into the bunk and runs my refrigerator, my TV, and my microwave when the truck isn't running, and the other cord I have plugged into my 1500 watt block heater and I also have a 300 watt oil pan heater plugged into that cord, plus I have a small 10 amp trickle charger under the bunk that I have hooked up to my batteries that charges when the generator is on so I don't have to worry about my batteries running low. I have been parked for up to 3 days when it was 30 to 40 below zero and my truck started up like it was the middle of the summer time. I also wouldn't be without a bunk heater or the generator ever again. Also, in the summertime, I have a small one room air conditioner that pulls 575 watts that I cool the truck with when I'm parked. Altogether, my generator saves me about $5000 a year in fuel costs plus the idle time on my engine. In the summer time, my generator will run about 6 days on the two gas tanks because I'm not pulling it as hard without all the engine heaters plugged in. Altogether, I have way less than $1000 tied up in the whole system which is a lot less than the $10-$12,000 an APU costs. My generators last about two years and then I just toss them in the dumpster and buy a new one for $325. Good luck on your travels and stay safe.
@@jefftutsch5730 thank you so much for all that information. I think I’m gonna get some of that same stuff set up on my truck. I’m going to get me a trickle charger and also I’m going to get me a pan heater. I already have block heater that I use and this thing saves so much money. It is not even funny. I was thinking about buying APU but whenever the APU breaks down, you have to take it into shop and spend hundreds sometimes even thousands of dollars to get it fixed and all the last time and revenue with the truck sitting in the shop while the APU is getting fixed is not a good deal for me. Whenever this generator breaks down, I can just take it in to Harbor Freight and get a new one because I got a warranty on it and then I get a new one. I can get another warranty on that one. In the summertime I also use little portable standup AC that I keep in one of my cabinets on the side over here in my sleeper and it is not loud at all. I can barely hear it when it’s running. Idling truck is a lot more louder than this.
I am very scared to drive in snow. Don’t like it at all. I used to drive in winter storms back east and up around Lake Erie but I just can’t do it anymore.

If that's a blizzard, come to New England...we call that a dusting
Even a handful of flurries is blizzard for me.
😂try the Dalton hwy, especially this year. Record snow and that's saying something. But kudos to anyone driving
The snow keeps out the weak ones.
We love snow in Maine.
When I went into Denver I thought it was one of the most beautiful city I have ever been in aspechlly with the mountains behind it oh it looked beautiful Frank Corbin 😊
It definitely is amazing to see. I love Colorado.
Nice truck. !! Good stuff. You right. No haul cheap freight!!!
Thank you 🙏🏼I don’t haul cheap freight. I’m in my way to Florida right now but I’ll be going empty all the way to TN or KY because everything out of Florida is cheap
@@OTRBandit have a good ride. All good in kansas
@@juanrubio4791 Appreciate you 🙏🏼 Thank you.
Good evening buddy I just found your channel. I’ve been out of a truck for 13 years. I drove a truck over the road for 16 years and I actually drove a blue 379 Peterbilt just like you’re driving I named her “ No Tell Hotel “ lol …. I enjoyed sitting here on the phone and looking across that big hood. That’s the first time in 13 years. I’ve seen across a 379 Peterbilt hood looked awesome. Brought back a lot of memories. Keep up the good work keep your head up.
Thank you very much for watching my friend 🙏🏼 These trucks really are amazing to drive. Not all that good in tight spaces but I think this will be my last truck before I retire or die. Take care and once again, thank you for watching.
Right thru my old stomping grounds of Indep KC area. Great video man. Keep on keepin on!
I appreciate it. Thank you very much.
Good decisions Sr 👍🏻, especially about quit drink redbull. I mean seriously good decisions about respect the weather conditions 👏🏻👏🏻
It’s about time I start making some good decisions too 👍🏻
I hate driving in that stuff.
I’m not a fan of snow driving at all. As soon as it starts snowing, I’m looking for a place to park. Better safe than sorry.
Comrade, you saved $130.05.
Don’t forget about the 5 xtra cents in coffee!
Yes sir. Every penny counts.
Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it 🙏🏼
Your truck is sweet 😋as gold my friend stay safe.😊❤
Thank you very much 🙏🏼
Love it always wanted to drive truck but never did it instead I operated the Zamboni. Thanks for journey....👍

Beautiful truck!!!❤🎉❤
Thank you 🙏🏼
Love the drone footage. Also great idea on the generator on the catwalk. Good use of space.
Great video enjoyed the ride brought back memories of yrs i was on the road coast to coast and no one new what a long book was😅😅
Good old times.
I used to haul out of Denver. I kept a tub of cat litter & ice melt. Came in pretty handy more times than I can count, especially when backing into a trailer that has ice and packed snow in front of the landing gear. Gotta give those drives tires a little help 😁
Ice melt is definitely a good idea. Saved me more than a couple times.
Wouldn’t believe the amount of trucks I seen wrecked this week because they wanted to be bad ass. Yall gotta drive safe in this weather man
My Dad was a truck driver about 20 years ago and I went with him once. I can't remember exactly where we went but we did go to a restaurant called JJ Finnegan's I think. Amazing fajitas back then. Stay safe out there. 🙏😊

Outstanding sir, I applaud you!!
Just curious why deadheading (costing fuel) is better that a shitty paying load? Isn't something better than nothing?
Not when you blow a $300.00 tire, eight hours on duty not driving, Momma waiting and another good paying load.
Every Thursday I'm driving there, but I stop at the 31 at Loves on my ŵay to Denver. A few of us run dedicated to Denver, then down to Texas and back east. Not looking forward to winter, and you, my friend, have reminded me it's coming before I know it. 😂
Definitely not looking forward to the winter. But unfortunately it’s just around the corner.
I'm Australian and I loved this video. Good on you for stopping.
But my big takeaway from this video is how monumentally huge American coffees are.
Coffees are way too big in my opinion. Thank you very much for watching all the way from Australia 🙏🏼
Dude, why no jake brake at the 670 split? Get that echo off the overhead. I always did. 😂😂
I thought I had them on. I always turn them on through there. Music to my ears.

Agreed 👍🏻
You have the best camera! Such clarity!
Thank you. I love this camera. No shaky picture even if you’re running. It’s super smooth
So I’m curious, how many log books do you carry, or do they even use them any more?
I only have one log book. I’ve never had more than one.

Thanks, you too! It gets really bad here in some places but I try to avoid those as much as possible. Every now and then I run into snow but I don’t like it.
Maybe a dumb question but how do you stay warm with the engine off?
I bought something on Amazon called bunk heater or diesel heater. Runs of batteries. Works very well. Best $150 I ever spent.

I used to be one of those. I drove upstate New York through Ohio and Indiana turnpike with lake effect snow coming down like you wouldn’t believe. But not anymore. I’m too smart to do that now.
But sometimes u got drivers that are driving to slow making it more dangerous and not keeping momentum

I’ll be honest with you my friend. There are good days and there bad days out here. But I wish I never stepped foot in one of those things.

We definitely do not have something like that here but I really wish we did
I dunno how true this comment is considering how unsafe it would be for these volunteers to be wandering the snow-covered roads they probably are already stuck in looking for trucks and others stranded on the highways during a blizzard with almost no visibility. Especially at night. Depending how hard that wind is blowing you might not even see the end of your hood.
@@OGTH-camEnjoyer You know that central Europe is NOT even close to conditions you mentioned, right?! No such "blizzards" here.

How do stay cool in the summer if you don't idle?!
I use harbor freight generator and I plug in portable AC. Freezing cold.
i ran out of salt lake city for 45 years within a 500 mile radius driving a tanker--sometimes i was in wyoming everyday--i always came back empty--30 of those years was a rocky mtn doubles,105 ft,up to 129,000 lbs--always empty on the way back--never once did i chain up--i could pick my own schedule most the time--been out of it for nearly 5 years--the average driver today is a nit wit clown--only got shut down by weather a few times--glad i am done, clown show-the states used to let you do your own thing,no more.....
You driver you crack me up,,,,I say the. Same things you do--- T/S always trying to rip u😂😂😂
When I was running the big road, I would not take any load for less than $3. 00 a loaded mile just to cover me in case I had to deadhead a long distance to my next p/u. I’m 86 now 😮lol
Every time I go to someone crappy area, I make sure I get paid as much as if I was doing round trip.
You run slog or do you run paper log

Put about 3 to 5 gallons of gas in each tank And as long as it doesn’t have any water in it nothing will freeze up make your truck run better off 😮 25:33 through that cool weather and it will also clean your injectors off
I might try doing that this winter. Maybe it’ll help.
Bet that generator is so damn loud for the neighbors lol
I thought it would be loud when I first bought it but I can barely hear it inside the truck. I don’t think drivers next to me can hear it that much.
@@OTRBanditMake sure you get a PM on it every 1500-2000 hours. That thing will start smoking in the middle of the night and will definitely start getting loud.
@@JonNo86 Will do. Thanks for the tip.
2:02 no way 😂
This is kinda funny. I live here so, this ain't nothin.
Good thing you chill.😊
