While refreshing to see, as someone on the spectrum who is adverse to sudden loud noises and who watches these types of videos to relax when I'm stressed out..... I would have appreciated a clearer warning to take off my headphones or mute. 😕 I was really quite startled. I was 100% not expecting such visible emotion. Quite disturbing to me when I'm not expecting that kind of content incoming. "Clamping it got tricky" does nothing to inform that an emotional, loud outburst is incoming.... In a genre of video that is typically very methodical and chill to watch. I might expect that kind of outburst on a video called "Maker loses it while clamping wood for epic custom wormhole table".... But I'm also never in 1000 years going to click on a video like that because I do not enjoy rage content.
I mean, that was a super childish reaction to frustration. It's a gorgeous table and incredible work, but adults shouldn't literally throw objects and tantrums when they get frustrated. That's the kind of thing that people should check out therapy for: to learn better, more mature coping strategies. I wouldn't accept that behavior from one of my 11 year old math students.
i watched that video, and i couldn't stop. My coffee went cold, my cigarette burnt without me smoking and my cats almost died because they were so hungry and i was not able to move until you finished it. This is the ultimate level of woodwork. thank you for sharing... 💜

My good sir, this is nothing short of magical and an astounding display of skill from start to finish, through solving the challenges, having endless patience, and never giving up. Anyone who says otherwise has undoubtedly never so much as set foot in a wood shop, much less actually attempted to make something. I have watched a *ton* of other woodworking and other similar maker videos over the years, and the level of creativity and effort put into pulling this off 100% takes the cake for me. I mean, I was impressed by the sheer concept of it from just the thumbnail before I was glued to watching it, and then you went and put a whole gaddam cherry TREE on top of it all with the infinity light in the wormhole - good call letting that be a complete surprise. Absolute master class 💪

I would need at least 140 just for planning a project like this, then maybe 1000 to second guess every step along the way and measure everything about 50times while it’s being made, then about 200hours of cooling off time because it’s not going to plan.
This is brilliant! I'm not a carpenter or wood worker, but for what it's worth I think its bloody brilliant. It must be great to have so much praise from your peers etc. Thanks!

@@OlivierGomis I can tell you how long you spent dreaming this up. At least double the time it took to build. I figured this out a long time ago. "The longer you spend thinking about a project, the better it turns out. Seeing him take that chunk of glued pieces with edges everywhere and turning it literally made ME sweat watching the video…LOL! Balls that “CLANK”! I’ll stick to Kreg jig window/door
trim assembly and basic millwork with a table saw, jointer and thickness planer and leave the lathe work to real professionals.
Yeah. When he was turning i got a pit in my stomach. Scary. I've never seen anyone turning something like that.
My main thought was "how would you know you still have enough thickness turning the inside of the hole" but the dude just absolutely nails it freehand
I love the design, did he have plans? Amazing. That said I hope he has good insurance. Working with gloves on the interior of a lathe is an absolute disaster waiting to happen. I watched this just hoping he survives long enough the finish the project.
I love that you started from the glued cubes such that the "glue lines" later form the parametrization grids of the deformed surface. Truly marvelous work!
The lines that you see are the maple veneer he glued in for effect. The glue is micro thin now... probably less than a razor blade edge in thickness.
@@eltorocal I watched it again, and indeed! Thanks for the clarification!
I don't think I've ever wanted a piece of furniture so hard in my life. This is breathtaking!
Thanks for including your failed clamp attempts when you got angry, never see that on youtube but it’s probably the most relatable bit for me😂 when you think you’ve done everything you can to prep and shit just doesn’t work perfectly how you imagined is such a pain lol. Incredible table you should be seriously proud, I thought your page had over 1million subscribers, I’m amazed you don’t (you’ll absolutely get there soon enough though with your creativity and execution👌)
He looked like a dumb ass throwing his tools and workpiece around. Oliver are you an adult or twelve?
The way he throws his shit hahaha
I'll second this, to include the frustration made it more real than any other DIY vid I've seen in a while.
While refreshing to see, as someone on the spectrum who is adverse to sudden loud noises and who watches these types of videos to relax when I'm stressed out..... I would have appreciated a clearer warning to take off my headphones or mute. 😕
I was really quite startled.
A table is a soulless object you might buy on IKEA or something. This is a piece of art! Amazing craftmanship. Got a new subscriber.
There's nothing more satisfying than to see a man in his element of PEACE, and no distractions. You fellas know what I mean.
i watched that video, and i couldn't stop. My coffee went cold, my cigarette burnt without me smoking and my cats almost died because they were so hungry and i was not able to move until you finished it.
This is the ultimate level of woodwork.
thank you for sharing... 💜
my cat watchet it with me :-)
cats are the devil :P
I ate my cat while watching this.
Cats almost die if their bowl is empty for 1 sec. So I feel your pain. Haha
The most impressive example of craftmanship I have ever seen. Amazing!
Best woodwork ever. As a PhD student in computer science and a math lover, I have no words to describe how awesome it is!
I've said it before, I'm not sure if I'm more impressed by your wood turning and building, or your jig making skills. You are truly amazing.
i love his jigs too, he is brilliant in problem solving 💯🔥
Olivier is a certifiable maths and woodworking genius. Not only is the work astounding, just thinking of the idea puts him on a level all his own. This piece belongs in an art museum!
Actually, it belongs in a science museum! The way the grid illustrates the warping of space-time by gravity is incredible!!
The way you lined up the LED’s with the maple laminate strips is amazing. Well done 👍🏻
is that a table or a urinal?
@@geoms6263Why not both?
Hello sir
Watching you work at the wormhole part is SO STRESSFUL!! Many things could have gone wrong, but you have endured and persevered!!!
Well done!!!
6:53 Wood working is such a relaxing thing.
🤣
It can definitely go both ways. Most woodworkers loathe sanding, and It definitely drives me crazy when I finish a pice and can't stop staring at the imperfections
should have left it out. ruined the video for me.
😂😂😂😂😂
@@KurisuDE too bad humans aren't perfect, we all feel frustration at times, not everything is about you.
I'm not a woodworker, artist or engineer. But I do watch a lot of woodturning videos. They're always beautiful. This is another level.
The concept alone is incredible. The execution is next level. Congratulations!
👍👍
My Adhd fought hard to watch this but i thank you for showing me your gift
This is the most fantastic piece of woodworking I've ever seen. (And it's nice to see that you're human and have melt-downs like the rest of us. 🙂)
Sincerelly, I wasn't expected Olivier's melt-downs to extend beyond verbal... :)
I would be surprised if there is a person out there that has never slammed something and yelled in their workshop area LOL!!! I think that woodworking has taught me to be very patient when a complex and frustrating problem occurs.
This is one of the coolest things I've seen in quite a while! I wasn't planning on spending another 30 minutes on TH-cam but I could not stop watching. Your skill level is very impressive!
Whoa what? You created this masterpiece in 140 hours? Does anyone else think that's bonkers? I was thinking more like 1000+ hours.
I would need at least 140 just for planning a project like this, then maybe 1000 to second guess every step along the way and measure everything about 50times while it’s being made, then about 200hours of cooling off time because it’s not going to plan.
it doesn't look like a table, I thought it was a urinal🤭
You realize that 1000 hours is a full time job for 6 months right? Are you insane ? XD
@@LazyEngineerElitei could easily believe that this took six months
140 hours is only 2.5 weeks when working 8 hour days which seems like nowhere near enough time! Incredible😮
This is brilliant! I'm not a carpenter or wood worker, but for what it's worth I think its bloody brilliant. It must be great to have so much praise from your peers etc. Thanks!
This would have already been a masterpiece without the LEDs but they add another level of awesome to it! Amazing.
“Awesome” is definitely the right word. I already knew it would be gorgeous, but when I saw it with the lights I was literally in awe.
Actually, the LEDs add another "DIMENTION" 🤣
Since furniture can be viewed as art, this is a masterpiece.
By the old definition it might very well fit being called a masterpiece! Back in the day tradesmen would submit their "master piece" to get acceptance into a guild to prove your skill - Id say this qualifies!
Have watched several of your vids, and send them to my Dad, who loves woodwork, made things in wood as a hobby. He died September this year. Watching this in awe of your skills, with no one to share to! Merry Christmas (yeah, I have had a cry) wishing you good health, happiness and as much inspiration as you need, xx
This young man is amazing! This table belongs in a museum. Im a former woodworker, so I can appreciate how much work went into it. He makes it look easy. BRAVO!!!
As a Carpenter and joiner myself this is fantastic mate i love the way the lighter strips of wood bend a curve up the wormhole Truly a work of art , well done awesome !
Ditto!
I have obsessed over woodworking my entire life, and this is probably one of the most incredible things I've ever seen
I’m utterly speechless!
Everything from the concept to the execution is astounding. Your creativity in designing and building just the JIGS needed to create this masterpiece is of the highest level. As for the woodworking… I have no words!
I just watched this on my iPad. I’m now going to watch it all over again on my big screen TV.
I was watching it in the microcinema of my mansion with 15 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, 4 kitchens, 3 swimming pools, a Starbucks, an underground garage for 7 cars, and a heliport.
You had my full attention for the whole video. The narration was great, and including American measurements is appreciated. The table is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
The sheer amount of vision required to make this work is truly incredible. You're an artist of the highest caliber.
Only a perfectionist can do this work with that level of detail. Hats off bro!
No doubt this is the best project to date! This needs to be in a museum brother!🫵
I was thinking a physics department.
I was thinking a dumpster.
Pretty awsome! Perhaps the nicest table I´ve ever seen. I like the reaction when something went wrong at gluing and fixing the tube.
Wow. That’s incredible! You said 140 hours of work, but how long did you plan the execution?? That’s really a masterpiece. I’ve never seen something like that. Absolutely gorgeous!
I don't know, but a lot. Basically when I wasn't doing it, I was thinking about it.
@@OlivierGomis I totally understand! 😂
@@OlivierGomis I can tell you how long you spent dreaming this up. At least double the time it took to build. I figured this out a long time ago. "The longer you spend thinking about a project, the better it turns out. And the faster you get it done"
Therefore, had you not spent a good amount of time thinking about it, it would have taken you much longer to build. And the end results wouldn't have been as precise! This is where repetition comes into play. Been there done that many times.
140 hours is not even close. This took at least months, but probably 6-12 months.
@@honeybadgerisme I think that was 140 hours of actively working on it time
Once you have seen plenty of woodworking videos of very skilled people on TH-cam, you think you have an idea of what master level woodworking looks like. Until you find somebody like you who is defining a whole new skill level above all that. I am amazed by what you have made!
Phenomenal build. I've been a woodbutcher/carpenter my entire life and never seen anything like this. Hats off to you dude 🤙
Your skills are in the top 1% of woodworkers. Incredible design and execution.
I am privileged to own an original wormhole. This table is an amazing addition to the theme. I love Olivier’s work!!!!
Could you explain that? You own an original wormhole?
@@lokanodahe charges aliens a toll to pass through.
Imagine if someone uses the wormhole as toilet seat…
Words can't do justice to the masterpiece that you've created. This is simply priceless!
👍👍👍
simply the most amazing wood-crafting video i've ever watched. maths meets art.
and when we all thought the table had achieved its absolute perfection, you added the led light - WTAF? - brilliant idea! utterly stunning!
I am actually speechless! I wish I had a fraction of your skill.
The infinity lights in the throat of the wormhole was just the final chef's kiss to an already unbelievable work of art.
As a graphic designer and a mathematician I enjoyed your work second by second You are so generous to share this creative work with us, You are pure talent, greetings from Egypt
As a fellow graphic designer, I'm curious where mathematics fits into your practice?
@@theo5928 Basically, I hold a Bachelor of Science in the Department of Mathematics, and also a painter, calligrapher, graphic designer, and photographer.. Sometimes I need mathematics, such as determining the necessary angles, measuring the perimeter or area of an geometric figure, or imagining the golden ratio with its approximate arithmetic proportions at work, and so on.
this is not a practical piece. This is a work of art worthy of any art gallery or museum. I am blown away at this triumph. You need to be super proud of your work.
It's honestly ridiculous how talented you are. Its one thing to think outside the box like you do to come up with these projects, its another thing to execute it so perfectly. And then there are some of the techniques you come up with to accomplish it! Mind Blown! You're a very smart and gifted man!
Your engineering skills are incredible.
Your woodworker skills are incredible .
You’re combined package is at another level .
That table deserves a name, such an incredible piece of craftsmanship and artwork
Let's call it Olivier's wormhole or Gomis wormhole !…
Ive been calling it lil' Jeffy
I had tears in my eyes watching this beautiful piece take shape and I applaud the creator for his craftsmanship, his vision, his patience and his bravery, wholeheartedly.
tears.. come on..
