Hey Kev. I know you know. Maybe you don't. But what you're doing is incredible. Not just what you do. But what you do for us. Thank you. Big love from the UK x
Thank you Andrew! I like to help and I try sometimes. The world needs as much as we can all give right now, so thanks, and big love from the USA. Stay safe!
i love how you reply back to as many comments as you can . Thanks for that and I personally find you very innovative and learn from your techniques so much . I'm not there but I hope someday these new ideas pop up in my head too . love your videos , keep posting .
I swore I’d relied to this already but it’s not showing up lol. Thanks! This stuff is iterative, so the more time you spend in it the better you’ll get. You’ll get there sooner than you think after hitting LOTS of plateaus haha.
Kev this is amazing and your videos are very much appreciated :) One criticism though, which has nothing to do with the video per say, is your parting words. I know you mean well, but if one more person asks me to "stay safe" I'm gonna scream. Safety has gotten us into a lot of trouble over the past couple of years. Stay free, stay inspired, stay risky! Thanks again :)
Man why I found your channel i was on bed and saw your video and you made me go back to the computer again 😂. i love your channel and definitely i will learn alot of things from you
Thanks. I’d only had a few hours total to spend on it, hence the lack of detail and disappearing “birds” lol. More time to do things right is always a trick haha.
You could actually make some extra stands and house and make a collection out of them to make it more messy and random, Awesome work btw ! Thx for sharing
Pretty cool ! I'm a nodes believer myself :) I think your final shot is a bit out of focus overall, but who knows, that might be intended, keep up the good nodes!
I'm struggling to make them different heights like you did in the video, when i click "pick instances", it makes them different heights, but also just removes the "stack" part of the stacks and just leaves one per instance
One small thing, at the start you call the metropolitan trailer park suburbs “tracks”, they were actually called the Stacks in the book (which is one of my favourite books btw and an interesting window into the not-so-distant future). Great video, have thought about how to recreate the Stacks for years now
I know. I caught that too late and do call it stacks later on so just let it slide. It’s hard with no other eyes on this stuff but my own tired ones sometimes lol.
Hey man, I need help on a decision. So I’m thinking of getting a good software for vfx/3d animation, I have come down to paying monthly for either Houdini, maya, or 3ds max, the problem is, I’m not sure which to chose and so I wanted to ask which software do you think is best if I want to create very realistic places, creatures, etc. Also wanted to ask, is there a better difference of realism or quality of vfx/3d animation if I use a more expensive software? (I have been using blender)
Ah, the eternal question 😀. My take is this: Most VFX companies have Maya installed, including my small team on the industrial side. If you are good and know it, you can get in and and produce pretty quickly. 3DSMax is pretty wide as well, at least here in the US, but not as wide as Maya. Now, if you want to work in FX (fire, smoke, water, fracturing, etc...,) learn Houdini. It’s used pretty widely but still pretty niche at the time of this writing. I use it at work and love it. That’s after spending a solid decade in Maya for 10+ hours a day. Does that help?
The thing that bothers me the most in the videos of geometry nodes is they use cube or sphere or something and it's not fun to watch visually 💚 good job brother 💚
I followed in the 4.0.2 Blenderversion and when i distributed the "Stacks" on the grid it distributed them in them selfs in one spot instead of the whole grid! I followed every step exactly and i don't know what i did wrong?
Very impressive and cool! But from a construction point of view, it doesn't make a lot of sense to not position the columns in a single vertical line. Makes it look less realistic, since most columns are only supported by a very thin deck now (impossible in reality). If you want to keep the columns in an irregular pattern, the decks should be supported by trusses. Nevertheless, amazing work!
This is awesome! 🤩 I gotta know, though... If I _did_ want all the satellite dishes facing the same direction... (Because I'm the kind of nerd who would be bothered by details like that.) Is there a way to do it with the geometry nodes setup? Like, even if it has to be its own whole other convoluted node setup?
Uaaaw, I wanna follow this tutorial about geometry nodes so bad, but It's too fast and advance, and I'm quite too noob. So, need to find some videos and try to get back to this whenever I improve.
Hi there, i bought your Patreon so that i can take these and make some cool scenes in UE4 yet once i import these they do not show up, is there anyway to just get sent a “Stack” model file please? Or is there anyway to make those stacks meshes?
Yes, the whole thing is up there, except for the HDRI and one or two textures that I don’t own, but I provide the links in the description in Patreon. It’s also formatted for Blender 3.1 but should work in 4.x as well.
Hey Man. Thanks for the video really appreciated it. I noticed when I type in mesh in the search function for geometry nodes volume to mesh is all that pops up. Would you happen to know why this happens?
That's strange. Some of it is not tagged to the nodes yet I think, that, and they keep switching in and out different nodes. There is a way to enable legacy nodes in the preferences, but I don't do it as it tends to confuse me more than anything.
„I started with the default cube“, the hallmark of a true ´Blender master
