Nitro deck as a wired controller is a great feature for everyday players. Most people just don't have tons of switch controllers lying around, and even if you have extra joycons, the odds they're charged when you have people over trying to play Kart are low. With this, a pro controller, and the joy cons, you have 4 decent controllers for 4 player gaming.

My favourite case for playing the switch is the Plenbo G-Case. It does everything else besides using Hall effect sticks. It has Bluetooth for other controllers, extra battery packs using a magnetic connection, it can convert to a tabletop mode and the handles transform and connect together with joy-cons to create a controller like experience similar to the grip that comes with a switch. It also has two slots to hide game carts and three options for grip styles. My only gripe is that Plenbo make a slimmer version of the travel case just to carry the switch with g-case, cables, and their dock.

I do agree about the lower buttons/stick placement. If they can move the stick higher, or make it like the Steam deck by putting it up top like the left stick, it'll be perfect.
Best way for me is docked but if I have to do portable I go with the Neo Grip by skull n co. I think by design the switch is perfect and the neo provides a little bit of protection while making the switch comfortable in general.
To me the analogue triggers if they actually can be made to work as such in racing games is a MAJOR selling point for the Nitro Deck. To me the lack of analogue triggers basically make racing games unplayable on the Switch. And it makes me go to my PC any time I want to race.
When it comes to the larger joy-con alternatives I actually have a pair of Nyxi. And they lasted around three months before they started making constant disconnects while playing after I accidentally dropped my carrying case with the switch in it and the joy-cons attached. Anything not using the side slits for connecting I'd say is a major bonus when it comes to longevity. So to me that is a major reason for getting the Nitro Deck or the Retroflag.
The Scull&Co. Grip option just gets a side mention? And not even a link in the description? I think their interchangeable grip feature with different grip styles to suit different scenarios/tastes is great -- that and it has always been possible to dock the Switch with these on. And in addition to their grip option, their ecosystem of accessories is awesome too; I have their thumb stick grip/extenders to alleviate the range of motion issue with the joycon sticks, their 'Joygrip' which also has the same interchangeable grip options to facilitate a more comfortable docked-play option for those who can't get a pro controller for any reason (on top of enabling one to charge the joycons separated from the system), and their 'Max Carry' case which fits the Switch with any of the grips attached while also having a compartment to store their awesome Switch Dock, the 'Jumpgate' (which has it's own list of amazing features). I would've expected them to get a talked about a bit more in a video like this 😅
Agreed. I love my NeoGrip, especially the way the green and white one matches my TOTK Switch. It’s also so satisfying to have that sort of grasp on the device and eliminate the joycon wobble, then still be able to just slide the whole thing right back into the dock. I also love the joycon caps. I don’t even heighten them, just use them to make the sticks more “grippy.” I’ve been considering getting a third party dock for a secondary tv and travel. You say the NeoGrip has served you well? No issues? I just get scared over the chance of it messing with the switch
@Virishking You mean the Jumpgate dock? If so, yeah it's definitely served me well :) no issues at all. I also use it for my secondary TV and it's awesome for travel - even if the dock is too big for certain scenarios the actual functioning part of it, which they call the "Core drive" can be detached, which is basically just a USB/HDMI Hub the size of a twin Kit Kat bar that works with not only the Switch but my laptop too! I understand your worry with third-party docks though, but after doing a bunch of my own research I can offer some advice: All you need to make sure of is that you're getting the right charging brick/cable. The majority of cases where a third-party dock has killed a switch has come down to the Voltage/Wattage/Amperage of the third-party charging adapter being incompatible with what the Switch needs / accepts. The jumpgate doesn't come with its own charging cable (or HDMI cable bear in mind) so I'd say the safest option is to just purchase Nintendo's own official Switch dock charging cable. The official option is pricer than other options though, so you can get a third party one - like I did - and be just fine but... and I cannot stress this enough... you neeeed to make sure it has exactly the same charging specs as the official one or you could brick your Switch.
@Virishking Oh also to add to my previous reply - Scull&Co. have made two version of the Jumpgate, one for the first Switch and a newer model for the Switch OLED, just get the one that matches the Switch you have. I don't know if anything will go wrong / be incompatible if you don't... but better to be safe than sorry haha
So far my favourite switch controller is the 8bitdo pro ultimate. It has fully button and stick remapping (including stick axis inversion which is now my top optional addon), has gyro, halleffect sticks, and is closest in form factor to a switch pro controller which is legit the most comfy official switch controller. Nitrodeck have just launched their updated nitrodeck, the + version which now includes button/stick remapping, and has both sticks on top which is my personal preference (as a WiiU tablet lover, i think that is still the most comfy controller cuz BIG, like bigger than the Xbox Duke!), so hoping the deck+ lives up to all those features working without issue for me. Tho ideally, my perfect switch controller would be more like the Hori splitpad pro, but with all the features of the 8bitdo ultimate (wireless, gyro, halleffect sticks, full button/stick remapping). Hoping CRKD or other companies make something like that for the Switch or Switch2 soon
I bought the Nitro Deck and it's very close to being perfect. However, the placement of the D pad and right joystick ended up giving me some serious hand pain. I've had to return mine even though in all other respects it's a joy to use and makes the Switch feel so nice and chunky.
Oh good, so you can return them. I jumped on the Black Friday deal and then got worried I made a mistake when I started seeing all the complaints online. I may still give it a shot but I'm hoping I won't have any issues returning it if I'm not satisfied
I got the COIORVIS Switch Controllers and haven't looked anywhere since. Those are perfect, except for that little hook on the back, but otherwise thats the best way for me to get my switch game on.
Been an owner of the fixture S1 & s2 since their indiegogo, i do wish i had some personalization options sometimes with these grips. Haven't used joycons in years besides the few multi player/motion based games that i own.
@@Fernie52984 that's either the switch or a pro controller issue. The fixture is just a 3d printed/plastic made peripheral, nothing to do with latency.
I'm in the same boat with the S1 and S2 and love it! Would also love to see a pro controller v2 with hall effect joy sticks, way bigger battery so that it can also be made to top-off the switch, remapable back buttons like the deck, and replaceable joystick toppers.
Great bit of comparison! Just ordered the same purple nitro deck and am interesred how it feels. I've always had the Fixture S2 and the pro controller as a permanent setup with the oled switch which I think is the most ergonomic way to play in handheld, but I'm still interested in trying out an all-in-one slab to carry around.
I've tried the ZenGrip Pro, Binbok joycons, Hori Split Pad Compact, and the Fixture S2. I prefer the latter these days since I only play in handheld mode. I really like how the screen of the Switch is raised above my hands when I use it.
@@taylor91192What I don’t like about that option is that it has the tendency to scratch your Switch and pro controller and the setup feels a bit dangerous on the hinges. They can wear off easily since they’re just plastic and you have to adjust them when storing or even taking it out to play.
i can’t be the only one who just finds it comfy enough with just the regular switch, maybe because i only really play animal crossing stardew valley, zelda, retro games, and thr only really “hardcore” game i play is red dead lmao
It's not like I *prefer* the four button D-Pad, but I do like it a lot. I never really understood the issue with that in of itself, just that the joycons are very small.
1 critiscism? Could you have maybe put a subtitle on screen saying which brand youre talking about/showing? The whole time i had no idea which one you were talking about because from the looks of it theyre both purple? Im still watching right now in the middle already and i cant tell which is which
I use the Retroflag (the clear blue/purple GameCube inspired grip) and absolutely love it. I can't deal with anything that still requires use of the Joy-Cons, i find them to be total junk. Tiny analogue sticks and no proper d-pad, just rubbish.
The tragedy with the hori and binbok split pads are that they’re prone to failing really, really fast. I’m very gentle with my controllers, but I found their shoulder buttons going mushy and awful very very fast.
I remember your video on the Fixture S1. When the S2 came out I ended up getting a Switch OLED and the S2 and I think it’s *the* best way to play. Full Pro Controller comfort, and the carry case makes it handy enough to throw in a backpack and bring with me.
And the Hori Split Pad cannot be used wirelessly. And according to Wuff Den, the Nitro Deck can be used when the Switch is in dock. It comes with a USB A-C cable which allows you to use it through USB.
Incredible video, and answered a number of questions I have had and researched over the last few days in deciding how to move forward with my joycons staring to show some drift.
I really feel like any cradle grip is the way to go. Ive never really liked the switch portable till I tried rhe NitroDeck. And thats felt right. I was always worried I'd snap the controllers right off the side with every other set up. So now it's docked and pro or nitro for me.
" I was always worried I'd snap the controllers right off the side with every other set up." Yeah. I got the Satisfye grip a while back and I have to say it's been so much better for portable play than not having a grip. Haven't tried the Nitrodeck though so can't compare against that So nice to know having it in a grip I'm not going to accidentally damage the Switch's connecting rails on the joycons, and it's so much sturdier for putting it on a table than the original Switch's built in kickstand.
Ummm I don’t think so. And also I see them over $50. To get the full set which has an adapter to play in dock mode through USB that’s like $100. And you cannot buy the adapter separately if you already have the Split Pads.
Great content. Great information. Thanks. Now you have a new follower. Since I've bought my favorite game two times for two different consoles, can I play my game on both or do I have to play my favorite game also two times? In other words: Are games compatible between the consoles or just "available for"?

@@christopherjohannjr.9945you’re right tbh it’s messed up my pro controllers and switch’s but I recommend using a stock pro controller rather than one you like the design of and I’m learning all Nintendo switch oled’s are fragile and if you got a special edition they fade over time so they’ll need a shell replacement eventually according to other people’s experiences I’ve seen all over social media sadly but it makes sense nothing lasts forever I hate controller drift on Joy-con and controllers in general though 😂

Why is literally no one talking about the Skull & Co. grips? Some sort of conspiracy at works? ;) I found their grips are the best for me: Very subtle, I can just take off the handgrips themselves and it still fits in my old switch case and I can dock it just fine (screen protector is advised though!).
This is good but what makes me stop buying is the case. I am not sure if there are available carrying case for this and can they still be put on deck hehhe
I have the retro flag and the satisfye for the v1 switch. my only negative with the retro flag is no back buttons. The satisfy is really nice but I just don't like how small the joycon buttons are. Overall though the retro flag is really good
@@zacharylee1995they do. I’m not denying that at all. I did end up giving the nitro deck away and buying an alternative. I’m happy. Much lighter and easier to hold.
I had the satisfye grip but really didnt like it, my hands felt so uncomfortable whenever i used it but the skull and co neo grip really hit home with me especially the trigger grips.
Does this help with not having so much pain on your wrist when you play for a while? Like I mean, how comfortable is this? I just purchased a Nintendo OLED ....My poor thumb is burning lol...
I still can't believe that videos like this do not mention the Fixture S1 and S2. They are definitely in the conversation for the best handheld experience. With that said, my favorite thing about the switch is its modular Frankenstein design where you can physically change the feel and controls. I don't think there is any one "best" mobile experience. I like having options based on what game I'm playing.
The main issue with the switch is the joycons, Much of it stems from Nintendo wanting the joycons to be used in one hand so adding in large grips would make it worse for single joycon games despite very few people using this feature. Same reason why the d-pad sucks and is just 4 buttons instead of the usual cross style they used in the past. Personally my main is the Hori Split Pad Pro as I don't have any other controllers besides my standard Joycon. Wanted to check out the Nitrodeck or the Retroflag. My left joycon does drift so the satisfye isn't really a great option for me
Still use the pro controller play a lot of switch wife family me. Still think the pro controller is the best and GameStop with the 2 year plan. So after just swap it out for a new one get a new plan. Keep it fresh also for nfc reader if your grinding first party games with amiibo and someone who has every Zelda amiibo. Also living in a home where the family takes so much space plus with the wife being at home. Play my switched personally docked but on my iPad Pro 12.9 mini led tablet that’s also like my computer and media consumption device. Works good flawless just with a nicer mini led liquid renta XDR display.
I’ve since made the chance to Hori Spit Pad Pro. I had a Satisfy grip I used for a while, but it eventually was leaving marks on the back of Switch so I stopped using it.
I have both and I like the feel of the retroflag better it flares out on the side the nitrodeck does not. I do however always go back to my satify grips. I put hall effect sticks in all of my joycons even my boxypixel shelled ones. The new nyxi hyperion pro also feel nice. I also think the stick come off to easily on the nitrodeck. The tranparent purple plastic on the retroflag also looks just awesome. Update: Ok I have tried using this exclusively for a few days and I am not liking it. The triggers are driving me NUTS I can't rest my fingers on the them AT ALL. Here are my preferences in order by confort all of which I switch between regulary based on how I feel. Satify Grip (with hall effect upgraded joycons), Retroflag especially if I am playing dpad games , Nyxi Hyperion Pro and Skull N Co grip.
The only thing I really hate about the nitro deck is the lightning button. I can turn it off. But it will turn on everytime I charge my switch or turn it on. And randomly turns on during the night. O and where can I buy other joysticks? These are a bit sharp.
I like the new Satisfy grip i had the original one it was great except i couldn't dock my Switch however i would perfect hall effect sticks and a d-pad but i can't take things apart and back together again is there a Joy-con substitute that has d-pad and hall effect sticks that i could use with the new grip?
I can’t decide what to go for. I’m bummed because the Satisfye grip made marks on the back of my animal crossing switch due to sliding it in and out for docked mode. Can’t get those marks out. I have a Splatoon OLED and don’t want to mark up the back. What’s my best option here? Maybe the new satisfye grip fixes my issues? Just worried about it marking up the back again.

I’ve been considering getting a third party dock for a secondary tv and travel.
Thanks for this comparison video. It's very in depth.
Been an owner of the fixture S1 & s2 since their indiegogo, i do wish i had some personalization options sometimes with these grips. Haven't used joycons in years besides the few multi player/motion based games that i own.
Have you experienced sudden button lag while using the fixture? I get it once in a blue and unsure why
Well what the downside of the Fixture is that it has the tendency ti scratch the Switch and the controller.
@@christopherjohannjr.9945 hasn't happened to me
If you put on a purple jacket you can pretend your head is a C-Stick hahaha Love the hat!
Great bit of comparison!
Just ordered the same purple nitro deck and am interesred how it feels.
I've always had the Fixture S2 and the pro controller as a permanent setup with the oled switch which I think is the most ergonomic way to play in handheld, but I'm still interested in trying out an all-in-one slab to carry around.
ive a satisfye grip since 2019 and since then dont feel the need to use anything else with my switch, its just good enough
Im between the nitro deck or the hori split pad pro. Which one should i buy? At this moment both are the same price.
I've tried the ZenGrip Pro, Binbok joycons, Hori Split Pad Compact, and the Fixture S2. I prefer the latter these days since I only play in handheld mode. I really like how the screen of the Switch is raised above my hands when I use it.
fixture s2 is a game changer.
Great video. What is the skateboarding game you showed us?
1 critiscism? Could you have maybe put a subtitle on screen saying which brand youre talking about/showing? The whole time i had no idea which one you were talking about because from the looks of it theyre both purple? Im still watching right now in the middle already and i cant tell which is which
I use the Retroflag (the clear blue/purple GameCube inspired grip) and absolutely love it. I can't deal with anything that still requires use of the Joy-Cons, i find them to be total junk. Tiny analogue sticks and no proper d-pad, just rubbish.
Does the Retroflag allow you to use a dock like the Genki without removing switch? The nitrodeck doesn't seem to.
I only play it with my fixture S1 now lol 🤣 Soo much more comfortable 👍 (also no stick drift with the pro controller)
Agreed
@@loganbarham2290 However you’ll end up having scratches on the Switch and probably controller overtime
I want a Nitro Deck, but since it's not dockable, I'll probably stick to my Hori Split Pad Compact. Gets the job done, and dockable.
Well yea they never advertised it as a dock it’s purely for handhand
And the Hori Split Pad cannot be used wirelessly. And according to Wuff Den, the Nitro Deck can be used when the Switch is in dock. It comes with a USB A-C cable which allows you to use it through USB.
Incredible video, and answered a number of questions I have had and researched over the last few days in deciding how to move forward with my joycons staring to show some drift.
I use a satisfye grip on my switch
I really feel like any cradle grip is the way to go.
Ive never really liked the switch portable till I tried rhe NitroDeck. And thats felt right. I was always worried I'd snap the controllers right off the side with every other set up.
So now it's docked and pro or nitro for me.
" I was always worried I'd snap the controllers right off the side with every other set up."
Yeah. I got the Satisfye grip a while back and I have to say it's been so much better for portable play than not having a grip. Haven't tried the Nitrodeck though so can't compare against that
So nice to know having it in a grip I'm not going to accidentally damage the Switch's connecting rails on the joycons, and it's so much sturdier for putting it on a table than the original Switch's built in kickstand.
Have the retroflag and it’s amazing. Got it for 40$ an amazon and i’m happy to never use joycons again
Hori Split Pad Pro! You can get them cheap because they only work in portable mode! + no gyro
Ummm I don’t think so. And also I see them over $50. To get the full set which has an adapter to play in dock mode through USB that’s like $100. And you cannot buy the adapter separately if you already have the Split Pads.
The fixture s1 & 2 or nyxi joy cons are the superior way to play
Debating between nitro deck or satisfye ronin
Great content. Great information. Thanks.
Now you have a new follower.
Since I've bought my favorite game two times for two different consoles, can I play my game on both or do I have to play my favorite game also two times?
In other words:
Are games compatible between the consoles or just "available for"?
Fixture gaming pro controller grip for switch oled is the best cause joy-drift but you also get almost all features minus the joy-con being mandatory for some games
Well I don’t personally recommend the fixture option since it has the tendency to scratch your pro controller and the Switch.
I heard the nitro deck scratches the back of your switch can you confirm if thats true? if it does thats a huge pass for me.
Also the same with the Fixture S1
Beat grip I had is the mumba blade
My main problem with third-party controllers is that they don’t wake up the switch most of the time I one I found that does was from Nyxi.
I keep seeing people say this but I have multiple third party controllers and even my AliExpress controller and the literal cheapest controller I found on Amazon wakes it
Original split pad pro is my fave
You better get used to the fact that the split pad can’t be used off the Switch.
Well for me i use the split pad pro or split pad compacts portable for most games. Splatoon or docked use pro controller. Super smash bros docked using gamecube controller 🤷🏿♀️.
I'd love for you to review the NYXI Hyperion Pro.
Why is literally no one talking about the Skull & Co. grips? Some sort of conspiracy at works? ;) I found their grips are the best for me: Very subtle, I can just take off the handgrips themselves and it still fits in my old switch case and I can dock it just fine (screen protector is advised though!).
Whats the name of that retrogame wich is shown the beginning? 2D retro game. Pixel graphics. Looks dope.
Overall though the retro flag is really good
Am I the only one that doesn’t really care for the nitro deck? The extra weight really bugs me and makes it harder for me to play long term
You might be the only one, But you have to admit that the old Joy Cons sucks
My left joycon does drift so the satisfye isn't really a great option for me
As much as I want to buy a pair of split pad pros for my switch, the fact that it doesn't have gyro makes it a deal breaker for this Splatoon player.
Well not all Switch games support the pro controller.
I'm still really hoping Nintendo releases a Switch Lite Oled.
I’ve since made the chance to Hori Spit Pad Pro. I had a Satisfy grip I used for a while, but it eventually was leaving marks on the back of Switch so I stopped using it.
However you’ll have to get used to the fact that the Hori Split Pad has zero wireless connectivity.
I heard the nitrodek is uncomfortable to use it that true??
I would get the retro handheld one if it came in black
What is the game?
Is there an option that has any back buttons as well as still has gyro?
one thing noone mentions is moving the charging port to a not stupid place
I can’t believe Nintendo doesn’t make good controllers for their systems anymore
I use the fixture s2 with the pro controller and its amazing
Well I wouldn’t recommend this since it has the tendency to scratch your Switch and pro controller.
I wish the nitro deck had a better way to take out the tablet
I can’t decide what to go for. I’m bummed because the Satisfye grip made marks on the back of my animal crossing switch due to sliding it in and out for docked mode. Can’t get those marks out. I have a Splatoon OLED and don’t want to mark up the back. What’s my best option here? Maybe the new satisfye grip fixes my issues? Just worried about it marking up the back again.
There are protective sleeves for Switch in situations like this.
Are there any that feel somewhat like an Xbox one controller?
I guess I am the only one who likes the 4 buttons and don't mind a non traditional D-pad....sorry Kevin.
The game slots on the Ronin, if anything, are TOO tight.
There’s no reason to fear them coming out whatsoever.
