it's not that surprising really, because the Switch is what the Wii U should've been. they already had the tablet like controller for Wii U, but the name Wii is why it didn't sell well. Nintendo got in a rush to put something out, they should've waited to see what Sony and Microsoft did first, or atleast watch there unvail videos at E3, that's when Nintendo could've said, were not gonna call it Wii U, it'll be called Nintendo Switch. but they didn't do that, having two consoles with the name Wii on it will confuse the average buyer. so really the Nintendo Switch is really just a mobile version with the Wii U specs, it's a little better, but not by much.
Just got a legit leak! 4k docked and Oled screen. Im still holding by breath but reliable sourced are reporting the leak. Usually never happens if it isn't from a credible source.
@@teckyify OLED is a big improvement at that size 720p is enough. 4K dock is very exciting. Hopefully that means that the base model will have a bit better performance so it makes games like Doom look better.

Super Mario 3D Allstars is a disgrace, and a dark cloud casted from Nintendo. It sort of indicates to me that they aren't trying at all, and that is sort of scary. A modder released a 3ds version with 60fps, antialiasing, and higher textures and it is groundbreaking. Nintendo is NOT trying in certain facets and I just hope it doesn't affect the next Zelda.

I was sort of afraid that this game would be limited, but they made a TON of them. The only reason how this game could ever be desired or rare in the future, is because it is so obsolete and rough. People are going to sell it more than any other game I feel like, and at the end of the decade, it will be considered a bad gaming oddity.
@Mario Walker904 I wouldn't be surprised if they removed it, in an effort to liquidate the stock that the retailers already have. I haven't seen that much of one copy of a game at Walmart, in my entire life. The only time I've seen that many copies of one game at any store is a flea market with multiple crates of E.T cartridges in the late 90's. If they fix the game, then yeah I would have regretted selling the game but honestly, it would be hard to feel bad for pirating this game for free.

What I really like about these new Wii U ports such as 3D World plus Bowsers Fury is that they're kinda used to experiment with future Nintendo game ideas. Like I feel bowsers fury is a tech demo for the future of Mario, and a good tech demo at that
Overall I’m fine with the switch but the joy con problems, the fact that the switch lite still has these problems except you can’t actually detach the joy cons, the fact that they decided 2 years after the switch launch to start to charge people to play online, and the fact that a ton of its library is just ports, rereleases and indie games makes me feel that the switch isn’t the best Nintendo console. Not every console can be perfect but I can probably think of 10 consoles/handhelds I’d rather play than the switch.
You made a good point, if they do a console refresh i just want the refresh to have a better processor and better gpu so games can be ported better and not sacrifice so much in the conversion with other games that were ported.

Can't believe it's been 4 years already. I love the Switch and remain hopeful for it as I hate playing games on handhelds and prefer large TVs. Adam, I have a galaxy fold 4 that essentially functions as a switch pro when it comes to gaming. I can't justify buying Nintendo specific hardware anymore. I just want them to allow us to buy their games and play em on pc and mobile. I hope you cover this in the coming anniversary video
Wow, 4 years already... geez... I got my switch in September of 2017, as they were impossible to find that year! I remember being at college and my buddy texted me during lunch that best buy had some in stock. Well i immediately got on the next bus and went to get it. I brought it and went back to college, and ended up an hour late to class. I literally showed up to class carrying my switch brand new in the box, and didnt have any books i needed for the class. I sat at the back of the room in awe and actually unboxed it during lecture...
I kinda get your point with the 3D all stars thing but remember the 25th anniversary of Mario was literally a direct port of Mario All Stars from the SNES onto the Wii. Not even the controller symbols were changed. Plus it was also a limited run

I ended up spending so many hours playing my Switch that it actually did feel like a long time ago that I bought the single returned copy that was left at Target.
I think they're gonna start mining the 3DS library soon. Also based in the new OLED name for the new model it's probably going to called the "Nintendo Switch 4k" or something like that.
For the Super Mario 64 pc switch dreamcast and other ports, it was not from leaked source code but from a decompiled rom which means that even more work was put in than just using the original source code and also makes it legal.

I just got a Switch finally a couple of weeks ago. A Switch Lite to be specific. With the news that the main processor chip is ending production this year, I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten it when I did because I suspect that scalpers are going to buy up the remaining stock. Because that's what they do.
In Italy we say "Chi disprezza compra" which roughly translates into "One buys what one disses". Wii U has been dissed by Nintendo fanboys more than any other console in Nintendo history. Not even the Virtual Boy was criticized so much. Now the very same kids are rushing to pre-order each of those Wii U games cannbilized by the Switch.
@@rikustorm13 yes that is true. The commercials didnt work for the masses. For me personally, I liked them, I just didnt like the name of the console or the ridiculous storage. In the end the Wii U was a console aimed to hardcore gamers, not to casual gamers or families. But it had charm, lots of charm.
I'm really waiting for as you tried to imply the switch 2, because nintendos handheld history has always had backwards compatibility with games. You can do that with switch games and perhaps even make the inevitable successor just run the games better by default like the series x can for xbox one games. No more sub 600p resolution games would be very appreciated lol
My guess for them using emulators instead of porting the original source code was to test the emulators for future switch online services. Like a N64 online or something like that.
There are so many Switches out there and it doesn't look like sales are going down so to me it doesn't make sense that they would make a successor with games that could only be played on it. With a switch pro, games could be played on both, but with enhanced graphics on the pro, meaning they're not limiting the amount of potential software buyers.
@@TheRelen222 a theoretical next gen system could still play switch games and enhance them, you don’t need a switch pro to do that. I just feel like why bother with a pro if they’ll probably make a next gen system soon after anyway. I felt the exact same way about PS4 pro. I skipped PS4 pro and just waited until I got the PS5 because I knew ps5 would come anyway
@@juliando300 it doesn’t make sense right now but I think it makes more sense to wait until 2022 or 2023 and just release a next gen system rather than releasing a switch pro right now. Like you said sales aren’t going down so there’s no real need to make a new switch pro.
I was surprised about the fact you didn't mention not even once the Animal Crossing name during this video. Considering how that was the third best selling game in USA (2020) and it became the all time highest selling game in Japan, I thought it would get at least a shout out. That's the one thing I miss about your older videos, when you would show the console next to a pile of the most important games that were released in the previous year. Edit: with that being said, I like the message you gave about wishing Nintendo to not repeat old mistakes. My favorite part about these videos has always been watching the predictions because wether or not they become true is irrelevant, what is nice is rewatch these videos in the future and realize what people thought would happen to Nintendo.
I'm just amazed a console that's less powerful than the PS4/Xbox One is still able to be released in 2021. I hope they release a Super version so more 3rd party games will come to the system and current games will run/look better
I agree with a lot of your key points, Adam. As for the Wii and Wii U ports, I wanted to mention I (mostly) willingly spend the extra money on them despite having owned a Wii U since 2013 and a Wii since 2006 because I want to play these games portably. I prefer the portable aspect of gaming but prefer 2.5D and 3D titles. That makes the Nintendo Switch (and Lite) invaluable to me.
the OLED Switch is interesting because it is the second time Nintendo crossed the $350 mark with a system with the Wii U Deluxe being the first! I would love to see if this does as good sales as the other switch models or if the switches age in hardware will finally start catching up with it. I personally think we are getting a switch 2 in Holiday 2022 launching with a new 3D mario or something and it having BC with performance boost and the switch will be like the gba and not have a pro model like the Gameboy Color, DSi, or New 3DS and just go straight to a new gen!
Kinda funny how four years into the switch's life I finally get a Wii U and treat it as my current gen console. Oh you got breath of the wild on switch? That's cool I have it on wii u. Mario 3d word? Me too! As much as Nintendo screwed (and continues to screw) their wii u owners, I actually feel good about becoming a late adopter. While the switch is better in every way and is getting (in most cases) better ports of the wii u games, I'm just happy to have a cheaper way to have similar experiences. Is that just me?
And here I am, still waiting for them to get Netflix support like the WiiU had on day 1 :/ Honestly though, what I would like to see more than anything on the Switch would be some kind of universally account-connected Achievement system like on Playstation and Xbox.
I like Wii U ports because Wii U's will be very hard to find someday especially with a functional gamepad. If you like Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, etc, the Switch gives you an easy chance to play these endlessly replayable games. I feel the same way with re-releases of older games that have become expensive and rear in 2021 with consoles that struggle on modern TV's. However, I don't like this as a way to discourage further creativity.
For Zelda 35, I would like Nintendo to give us on Switch (physical) the Philips games (2?) and the BS Satela-thing game, and any other obscure oldet game. Then I'd like them to give us all the games that were released with Master Quest versions on 1 cartridge (the 2 N64 games?). Then on 1 cartridge the remaining 2D games.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars is the first game I pre-ordered, or at least signed up for a copy. Heck, it's the only game I went in store and payed full price, I usually pick up games used. Went to pick it up after work with friend who also got one. I even delayed playing Odyssey, I wanted to play all 3D games before first. I was really disappointed to see Mario64 in 4:3 and not even fully streched to top and bottom border. It's even worse since I got Switch Lite with already smaller screen.
9 times out of 10 if a game is released on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch I’m buying it on Switch for the portability option alone. So many great ports on the Switch honestly like LA Noire, Mortal Kombat 11, Bulletstorm, Bioshock Collection, Borderlands, Assassins Creed Black Flag, etc and etc. That’s why I love the Switch so much.

I don't think a new console successor is coming anytime soon. If you compare modern computers to the ones 10 years ago. They isn't a great deal of difference in terms of processing power. That's because we're no longer seeing doubling of processing power like we did every couple of years in the 90's as a result of thinner cutting lasers. Since the 00's we've mostly seen more cores added to processors leading to the increase in parallelization . However, not all computing tasks can be parallelized.
I think the Wii U going dry once we get XCX, the two Zeldas, and maybe Yoshi isn’t going to be the end of padding releases with old titles. Starting last year we got a bunch of Wii games. First Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, then No More Heroes 1 and 2 on the eShop, and Mario Galaxy on the All Stars Collection. This year they already announced another one with Skyward Sword HD. Rumors say they finished porting Metroid Prime Trilogy years ago and are waiting to release it. They may have even started a streak of 3DS ports with Miitomo in the last direct. I honestly wonder if they can drag this out long enough that they end up looping back around to Switch remasters as a natural extension of this in the future.

You are correct to say it is a Wii U port machine in that it took a lot from the Wii U but in a way while it also took from the Wii U it also provide new titles for those who invested in the Wii U for examples those that missed the Wii U can play Super Mario 3D World Plus Bowser's Fury, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, DKC: Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Hyrule Warriors Deluxe, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe but if you're a previous Wii U owner you're not left out of the cold either cause Nintendo also made Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Sword and Shield, Astral Chains, Fire Emblem Warriors, Fire Emblem: The Three Houses, Paper Mario: The Origami King, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Splatoon 2, Splatoon 3, Mario Kart Live, Nintendo Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Zelda: Link's Awakening remake, and Kirby Star Allies all games that are not Wii U ports just for Wii U owners so you can't say they are taking everything from Wii U. In a way they are catering to both audience the old and the new and the ones that also came from the handheld side of things too cause the Switch did replace both the Wii U and 3DS at this point.
Oh hey I bought Thief Simulator on Switch a few months back! The game is extremely poor quality but it was on "95% SALE" on the eShop for weeks, hence why it was at the top of charts for a while. I think I got it for 1.99$ or something like that. It's hilarious that Google thinks that game is Nintendo Switch in 2020 haha!

I do not like nintendo as a company at all but i do have a switch lite for travel and in bed gaming. I just got a Xbox Series X and i am loving that. My point is everybody can use having a little Switch in there life. Especially at the low price point.
If Nintendo is not a company then you wouldn't have a Switch. A company is like a hub, it makes and create ideas and brought those to market. A better example are parents, you may like their son or daughter but you hated the parents cause they treated their children too badly or too securely or are very protected of them just like Nintendo is protecting their IPs.
Zelda 35th predictions Both N64 games get a HD release, along with link to the past and a link between worlds, (the latter originally from the 3DS family). Twilight Princess and Windwaker are dead givens, I’m thinking Q2/Q3 announcement for more Zelda games. In terms of anything else, Xenoblade chronicles X gets (at the very least) an announcement at the end of the year, that it’s coming to switch. Hopefully we also get some new information on Bayonetta 3 (this game specifically is the whole reason why I currently don’t have a switch, because it’s my most anticipated game). I also supported the Wii U from day one, kind of wanna put that to the floor. I mean I really like the switch from a conceptual standpoint, but I’ve never been in a rush to go out and buy one, considering I have most of the library as a Wii U owner. You made a good point, if they do a console refresh i just want the refresh to have a better processor and better gpu so games can be ported better and not sacrifice so much in the conversion with other games that were ported.
I cant really think of a better Nintendo console, besides the SNES.

Does Nintendo have anyone like in the old days with a clear idea of where the company should go? Without a clear vision or respect for their customer base they may end up failing to build on the switch’s momentum.
It's called Breath of the Wild 2 and Nintendo will make it exclusive to the next model of the switch forcing people to upgrade.
Can't believe it's been 4 years already. I love the Switch and remain hopeful for it as I hate playing games on handhelds and prefer large TVs. Was hoping the merging of home console and handheld divisions would really pump out the games. Hope Nintendo does keep the hybrid console format moving forward.

Adam, I have a galaxy fold 4 that essentially functions as a switch pro when it comes to gaming. I can't justify buying Nintendo specific hardware anymore. I just want them to allow us to buy their games and play em on pc and mobile. I hope you cover this in the coming anniversary video
Wow, 4 years already... geez... I got my switch in September of 2017, as they were impossible to find that year! I remember being at college and my buddy texted me during lunch that best buy had some in stock. Well i immediately got on the next bus and went to get it. I brought it and went back to college, and ended up an hour late to class. I literally showed up to class carrying my switch brand new in the box, and didnt have any books i needed for the class. I sat at the back of the room in awe and actually unboxed it during lecture...
Looking back : 5 games released initially sounds like a dream compared to XsX and PS5 launch line up.

I think they're gonna start mining the 3DS library soon. Also based in the new OLED name for the new model it's probably going to called the "Nintendo Switch 4k" or something like that.
For the Super Mario 64 pc switch dreamcast and other ports, it was not from leaked source code but from a decompiled rom which means that even more work was put in than just using the original source code and also makes it legal.

I just got a Switch finally a couple of weeks ago. A Switch Lite to be specific. With the news that the main processor chip is ending production this year, I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten it when I did because I suspect that scalpers are going to buy up the remaining stock. Because that's what they do.

In Italy we say "Chi disprezza compra" which roughly translates into "One buys what one disses". Wii U has been dissed by Nintendo fanboys more than any other console in Nintendo history. Not even the Virtual Boy was criticized so much. Now the very same kids are rushing to pre-order each of those Wii U games cannbilized by the Switch.

@@rikustorm13 yes that is true. The commercials didnt work for the masses. For me personally, I liked them, I just didnt like the name of the console or the ridiculous storage. In the end the Wii U was a console aimed to hardcore gamers, not to casual gamers or families. But it had charm, lots of charm.

I'm really waiting for as you tried to imply the switch 2, because nintendos handheld history has always had backwards compatibility with games. You can do that with switch games and perhaps even make the inevitable successor just run the games better by default like the series x can for xbox one games. No more sub 600p resolution games would be very appreciated lol
My guess for them using emulators instead of porting the original source code was to test the emulators for future switch online services. Like a N64 online or something like that.

For me it's the framerate drops in certain games. BotW in docked mode drops to the low 20s at times.
There are so many Switches out there and it doesn't look like sales are going down so to me it doesn't make sense that they would make a successor with games that could only be played on it. With a switch pro, games could be played on both, but with enhanced graphics on the pro, meaning they're not limiting the amount of potential software buyers.
@@TheRelen222 a theoretical next gen system could still play switch games and enhance them, you don’t need a switch pro to do that. I just feel like why bother with a pro if they’ll probably make a next gen system soon after anyway. I felt the exact same way about PS4 pro. I skipped PS4 pro and just waited until I got the PS5 because I knew ps5 would come anyway
@@juliando300 it doesn’t make sense right now but I think it makes more sense to wait until 2022 or 2023 and just release a next gen system rather than releasing a switch pro right now. Like you said sales aren’t going down so there’s no real need to make a new switch pro.

I was surprised about the fact you didn't mention not even once the Animal Crossing name during this video. Considering how that was the third best selling game in USA (2020) and it became the all time highest selling game in Japan, I thought it would get at least a shout out. That's the one thing I miss about your older videos, when you would show the console next to a pile of the most important games that were released in the previous year.
Edit: with that being said, I like the message you gave about wishing Nintendo to not repeat old mistakes. My favorite part about these videos has always been watching the predictions because wether or not they become true is irrelevant, what is nice is rewatch these videos in the future and realize what people thought would happen to Nintendo.

I'm just amazed a console that's less powerful than the PS4/Xbox One is still able to be released in 2021. I hope they release a Super version so more 3rd party games will come to the system and current games will run/look better

I agree with a lot of your key points, Adam. As for the Wii and Wii U ports, I wanted to mention I (mostly) willingly spend the extra money on them despite having owned a Wii U since 2013 and a Wii since 2006 because I want to play these games portably. I prefer the portable aspect of gaming but prefer 2.5D and 3D titles. That makes the Nintendo Switch (and Lite) invaluable to me.

the OLED Switch is interesting because it is the second time Nintendo crossed the $350 mark with a system with the Wii U Deluxe being the first! I would love to see if this does as good sales as the other switch models or if the switches age in hardware will finally start catching up with it. I personally think we are getting a switch 2 in Holiday 2022 launching with a new 3D mario or something and it having BC with performance boost and the switch will be like the gba and not have a pro model like the Gameboy Color, DSi, or New 3DS and just go straight to a new gen!
Kinda funny how four years into the switch's life I finally get a Wii U and treat it as my current gen console. Oh you got breath of the wild on switch? That's cool I have it on wii u. Mario 3d word? Me too! As much as Nintendo screwed (and continues to screw) their wii u owners, I actually feel good about becoming a late adopter. While the switch is better in every way and is getting (in most cases) better ports of the wii u games, I'm just happy to have a cheaper way to have similar experiences. Is that just me?
And here I am, still waiting for them to get Netflix support like the WiiU had on day 1 :/
Honestly though, what I would like to see more than anything on the Switch would be some kind of universally account-connected Achievement system like on Playstation and Xbox.

I like Wii U ports because Wii U's will be very hard to find someday especially with a functional gamepad. If you like Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, etc, the Switch gives you an easy chance to play these endlessly replayable games. I feel the same way with re-releases of older games that have become expensive and rear in 2021 with consoles that struggle on modern TV's. However, I don't like this as a way to discourage further creativity.
For Zelda 35, I would like Nintendo to give us on Switch (physical) the Philips games (2?) and the BS Satela-thing game, and any other obscure oldet game. Then I'd like them to give us all the games that were released with Master Quest versions on 1 cartridge (the 2 N64 games?). Then on 1 cartridge the remaining 2D games.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is the first game I pre-ordered, or at least signed up for a copy. Heck, it's the only game I went in store and payed full price, I usually pick up games used. Went to pick it up after work with friend who also got one.
I even delayed playing Odyssey, I wanted to play all 3D games before first.
I was really disappointed to see Mario64 in 4:3 and not even fully streched to top and bottom border. It's even worse since I got Switch Lite with already smaller screen.
9 times out of 10 if a game is released on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch I’m buying it on Switch for the portability option alone. So many great ports on the Switch honestly like LA Noire, Mortal Kombat 11, Bulletstorm, Bioshock Collection, Borderlands, Assassins Creed Black Flag, etc and etc. That’s why I love the Switch so much.

I don't think a new console successor is coming anytime soon. If you compare modern computers to the ones 10 years ago. They isn't a great deal of difference in terms of processing power. That's because we're no longer seeing doubling of processing power like we did every couple of years in the 90's as a result of thinner cutting lasers. Since the 00's we've mostly seen more cores added to processors leading to the increase in parallelization . However, not all computing tasks can be parallelized.

I think the Wii U going dry once we get XCX, the two Zeldas, and maybe Yoshi isn’t going to be the end of padding releases with old titles. Starting last year we got a bunch of Wii games. First Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, then No More Heroes 1 and 2 on the eShop, and Mario Galaxy on the All Stars Collection. This year they already announced another one with Skyward Sword HD. Rumors say they finished porting Metroid Prime Trilogy years ago and are waiting to release it. They may have even started a streak of 3DS ports with Miitomo in the last direct. I honestly wonder if they can drag this out long enough that they end up looping back around to Switch remasters as a natural extension of this in the future.

You are correct to say it is a Wii U port machine in that it took a lot from the Wii U but in a way while it also took from the Wii U it also provide new titles for those who invested in the Wii U for examples those that missed the Wii U can play Super Mario 3D World Plus Bowser's Fury, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, DKC: Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Hyrule Warriors Deluxe, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe but if you're a previous Wii U owner you're not left out of the cold either cause Nintendo also made Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Sword and Shield, Astral Chains, Fire Emblem Warriors, Fire Emblem: The Three Houses, Paper Mario: The Origami King, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Splatoon 2, Splatoon 3, Mario Kart Live, Nintendo Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Zelda: Link's Awakening remake, and Kirby Star Allies all games that are not Wii U ports just for Wii U owners so you can't say they are taking everything from Wii U. In a way they are catering to both audience the old and the new and the ones that also came from the handheld side of things too cause the Switch did replace both the Wii U and 3DS at this point.
Oh hey I bought Thief Simulator on Switch a few months back! The game is extremely poor quality but it was on "95% SALE" on the eShop for weeks, hence why it was at the top of charts for a while. I think I got it for 1.99$ or something like that. It's hilarious that Google thinks that game is Nintendo Switch in 2020 haha!

I see the Switch as a WiiU pro too. But I also see it as the next gen portable instead of the next gen console. And agree in that I don't see them droping the "Switch" name brand and hardware model for the next thing they put out.

I do not like nintendo as a company at all but i do have a switch lite for travel and in bed gaming.
I just got a Xbox Series X and i am loving that.
My point is everybody can use having a little Switch in there life. Especially at the low price point.
If Nintendo is not a company then you wouldn't have a Switch. A company is like a hub, it makes and create ideas and brought those to market. A better example are parents, you may like their son or daughter but you hated the parents cause they treated their children too badly or too securely or are very protected of them just like Nintendo is protecting their IPs.
MVG just dropped a video confirming Adam's idea here about a new model coming out for the holidays of 2021. Just a larger screen at the moment.
Zelda 35th predictions
Both N64 games get a HD release, along with link to the past and a link between worlds, (the latter originally from the 3DS family).
Twilight Princess and Windwaker are dead givens, I’m thinking Q2/Q3 announcement for more Zelda games.
In terms of anything else, Xenoblade chronicles X gets (at the very least) an announcement at the end of the year, that it’s coming to switch.
Hopefully we also get some new information on Bayonetta 3 (this game specifically is the whole reason why I currently don’t have a switch, because it’s my most anticipated game).
I also supported the Wii U from day one, kind of wanna put that to the floor.
I mean I really like the switch from a conceptual standpoint, but I’ve never been in a rush to go out and buy one, considering I have most of the library as a Wii U owner.
