IMHO, Young Posse seems to be doing a way better job at the 'quirky, unreal, rejecting sophistication' concept than babymonster. Every single song they've released has not only been a banger, but has also had weird, fun concepts that don't rely on bragging about money and fame. I'm 100% sure that literally the only thing holding them back is that they're from a smaller company. Had they been from yg (though that would never happen, because yg seems to detest taking risks, but that's a conversation for later) they'd be the cultural moment you're talking about. I think it could be an interesting point of comparison between the two groups
while i loved the styling of Click Clack, i just can’t take it seriously when it’s mostly teens singing “walking with my hips back”.. idk to me it just feels empty with mostly teens talking about how rich they are. i agree with you in that they are leagues above some of the songs they have released, i think Drip is closer to the mark they are trying to hit, but there is still something missing for me. i think they are so talented and have so much potential and look forward to see how they grow
Yeah, another reactor I love who's a rapper(Knox hill) pointed this out. I love his reaction to rap focused songs because he catches on to references fast. He pointed out that clik clak lyrics is good but it's just all about money, he says he knows the members asa especially has a lot more stuff to say about but just haven't gotten the chance yet
@@baffah3991 tbh i don’t see that, click clack does not give an “unserious” vibe, it wants to be taken seriously but i can’t since it’s just another song with mostly teens talking about how much money they have. i hope the same critic with meovv’s debut song. off the top of my head songs that don’t take themselves seriously would be like gidle’s queencard or le sserafim’s crazy, they’re a lil silly, fun, goofy and that’s okay! but i don’t see that for click clack maybe i missed something, but it’s just my opinion and it’s ok if u have another 🫶
@@baffah3991 hm tbh i don’t really see that. i think Click Clack does want to be taken seriously and nothing in the mv or lyrics have an ‘unserious’ vibe. but i can’t take it seriously because to me it feels a little empty with a group of mostly teens and rookies singing about how much money the have. i hold the same critique towards meovv’s debut. with as much talent that the babymonster girls have i think they deserve lyrics with more substance. off the top of my head, some songs in kpop that you’re not supposed to take seriously would be like gidle’s queencard, le sserafim’s crazy- they’re fun and a lil goofy songs that you don’t have take super seriously and just enjoy them for being fun. but i don’t necessarily think Click Clack falls into that category with its hip hop style. maybe i’m missing something, but these are just my thoughts and opinions, and yours might be different and that’s okay too :)
yeah, their lyrics are awful, and really aren’t suitable for them at all, that’s the problem with meow for me too, what money are this kids are talking about 😭
I also agree with your mini analysis of bp. Their concept is a more elegant version of a yg group. Outside of their initial releases, I never understood the 2ne2 allegations, especially when 2ne1 was way more electronic.
with all due respect. call me a boomer but a bunch of teenagers with possible training debt telling us they are richer than us spending money is so comical. and yg. but at the same time its kinda iconic. btw having watched wireshreds review of this album now yours. two polar opposite opions. we love diversity in k-tube ✨✨
It's supposed to be comical... if people watch the video, they are literally singing about Ferraris while riding bicycles, and name-dropping extreme high-name brands while sitting in front of a variety store that advertises sales and vouchers. Also, YG idols don't actually accrue training debt. They're pretty unique in that aspect.
Sadly, they are probably richer than a lot of us at this point unless you're a millionaire. YG trainees do not accrue any debt and start earning immediately after debut. That's why their trainee program is so competitive and so many of their trainees end up in other agencies - because they can walk away easily if cut. They've now sold over 1 million cumulative albums and have had paid fan meets with 10000+ fans. It would not surprise me if they have each banked between 500k to 1000k USD at this point.
Believe it or not, these girls are already rich RICH. They don't have debts (YG trainees never had debts) and they earned a lot from the get go. Some of them also come from rich families, esp. Pharita, whose family home is literally like a palace.
Yeah, to me Drip is clearly and BY FAR the best song they ever promoted up until now, along side with Like That (even tho it's not a YG song by technicality). The song is, yes, a little predictable but the chorus is good, the post chorus is too and the vocals parts help the song because Babymonster is clearly a vocal group. The only problem I have would be with the choregraphy, because of the minors involved but eh. This is YG. Nobody's gonna talk about it lol. However, Click clack is, to me, what a korean 40's man thinks hip hop is and seeing the girls trying to fit this concept was kinda funny imo, like... It wasn't it, but because Drip and Forever are good singles, I'll forgive YG for this one. I'll not forgive for the Rukasa song tho. I don't "like" the album, but I can see potential. Clearly vocals songs are songs that works for babymonster and it shows with songs such as Love Maybe and Really like you that I do appreciate for what they are doing here. You're right, tho : the quality control will have to be there in the future, because there is no way Woke up in Tokyo should've been release in the first place (yes, i'm traumatized) :)
@@Yoongi10269 also billionaire is a good example of them being able to show off their vocals properly in a song. 100% agree that they need to focus on making vocally led songs.
Some elements seemed cheap or too childish. That squeaky sound that plays during Rukas rap in Drip...... and rhyming Dong Pong and Kong is cringey ☹️ Their first fumble in my opinion. Everything else was chefs kiss though.
Clik Clak caught me off guard because I am so tiiiired of the "we're making so much money / we're so much better than everyone else" stuff. But Clik Clak has SUCH a good beat and watching the performance videos it looks like the girls are having fun with it rather than seeming conceited. (and YG (from what I've read) doesn't saddle their trainees with debt so it is *possible* that Babymonster is already making $.)
I just wish yg would actually give af about making the raps meaningful like what was the meaning of the rap in forever, ik not even a fan of them but it just FEELS like a need if we are bringing 2nd gen back in 5th gen
Well honestly i hate how people are afraid to say they like the songs from baby monster bcs they're from yg or something. I really wish they'll continue having title tracks like drip and forever which are brighter, but still have the vibe and lyrics yg songs usually have. All of their songs are really catchy even though they might bit be the best songs ever and i like the album. The girls are really talented,so i really hope yg won't fail them. They seem to be doing a good enough job with baby monster so far, better than what i expected for sure,so yeah..
I don't know anything about Baby Monsters or this conversation, but if people are longing for the vibrant sound that 2nd generation brought, there is going to be a come back in sophistication after that. And then, it's going to be a come back of the thing that came after and the cycle will repeat itself again and again.
I was surprised how much I like this album. It falls in the category of mindless fun for me personally. Love In My Heart gives me the Lovesick Girls vibe. Totally my jam!
I definitely think it’s an interesting perspective that they are in some way straying away from the sophistication on the kpop world today. I think this would REALLY work in their favor if they forged that identity more clearly tho. Unfortunately there has not been a song that I can immediately say sounds LIKE BABYMONSTER which is where I think they are falling flat. Sheesh and Batter Up had numerous blackpink comparisons, Forever got immediately compared to I AM by IVE, Click Clack feels more on the lines of a Young Posse or Bad Villain song, Billionaire sounds like a rejected IVE song (in a very good way that’s my fave in the album), and Drip definitely feels like a YG song. But I really want to here a project from them that can totally make them unique from any comparisons and let their abilities as artists shine. It’s clear that YG is most definitely struggling to figure out what Babymonster is supposed to sound like, but personally I think it comes down to our vocal/rap positions. We have 4 members who are vocalists, 2 who are rappers, and one that can easily switch between both (Ahyeon). And personally, I think in order to set Babymonster apart from other YG groups, they need to prioritize their vocal line as much as possible because that’s really what sets them apart from the rest of their YG groups. Ahyeon and Rami are excellent vocalists, and Rora, Pharita, and Chiquita are great too. Drip I think is the best way forward so far if YG is so concerned with making them sound YG enough. As long as the choruses for their songs going forward are full and vocally dynamic to show off Babymonster’s talents, then I see a bright path forward for them.
Funny you say that Click Clack is more like Young pOsse or Badvillain songs, because those two groups have strong OG YG styles, like first gen YG and early BigBang. Some of their producers are even ex-YG producers.
@@iagreewithyou3478 Honestly that makes so much sense. I didn’t even know that. Thanks for the info. I don’t really think Babymonster should necessarily go in that direction tho.
@@ravenmusicmaker8093 and with forever, the director of the video is the same as the director of I AM by IVE, maybe that's why it reminds you, because the song is nothing alike. And in billionaire, one of the writers of the song has worked with IVE, I think also in I AM, but to me billionaire didn't sound like IVE at all, I've never heard IVE have that r&b sound
I LOVE LOVE LOVE ALMOST ALL OF THEIR B-SIDES (except woke up in tokyo). LOVE,MAYBE is a LITERAL emotion i freaking love it. REALLY LIKE YOU is so cute esp the ending part, BILLIONAIRE is easily one of the best b-sides of this year i just wish there was more to it but its understandable why it's so short. LOVE IN MY HEART is such a feel good song that keeps you happy (not my fav but deffo not a bad one) and although majority hate CLIK CLAK, i enjoyed the rami and asa rap and the switch up at the end. Solid album along with DRIP and forever i'm deffo a fan now.
Also shoutout to your 5000IQ commentary right from the top re: YG chasing ‘MONEY’s success. We can YG formula this TEDDY formula that but money is proving to be what YG views as its magnum opus. .. also the fact that his magnum opus is a B SIDE from a SINGLE ALBUM plzzzzzz he’s cooked FR 💀
Yes to all of this, though I disagree about Clik Clak not working. It's supposed to be unbelievable. I mean, they rap about Ferraris while riding bicycles and are listing brand names while sitting in front of a literal variety store advertising vouchers and sales. It's not that serious yet people scream about it and I'm like... did people even watch the video. It's a fantasy and it's supposed to be. Also, I do kinda think people miss the point of money in hiphop honestly and why it comes up so often, and people who don't appreciate hiphop easily cast it off. And I say this as someone who hates capitalism.
Thank you sometimes people are too slow to analyze everything. If you watch the MV of Clik clak and listen to the lyrics you will understand more about what the song mean. Nevertheless the production of that song is top notch. Overall this album was pretty good start for Babymonster I hope they grow even more in the future cause for me the album was a pretty 9/10
The album was a solid 9 off 10 for me The bsides weren't boring or anything Love in my heart , love maybe and drip were amazing imo WIT was not a song for me tbh And I think they should stop putting random words between their raps now they somewhat sound cringe :) The album cover was borin These were my opinions as a hardcore monstiez
ive been saying for a few months now babymonster is more "2NE1" and MEOVV is more "black pink" as everyone goes about comparing both groups to that which has come before babymonster was never meant to be the Blackpink 2.0 everyone wanted them to be they were always meant to be a newer fresher 2NE1 vibe rather than BP
@@baffah3991did you even watch the MEOVV music video, there aren't any things that could catch your attention in it. They've got a very boring, sophisticated music video
I believe they will explore more into sophistication as they get older. They're going for colorful and quirky concept to capture very young audience. I had said this from the very beginning, Babymonster is a combination of 2ne1 and Blackpink.
You raised an important issue - identity. Yes, BM since day one sounds like YG group, don’t have their own sound, own identity. I don’t see anything belonging BM, everything belongs to YG and their previous groups. I see 2ne1, I see Bigbang, I see even Ikon style, and just a little bit of Blackpink. But what is there specifically belongs to Babymonster?
People trashing this album like have you guys listened to love maybe, billionaire, really like you, love in my heart??? No album can be bad with these 4 gems on it. And I think billionaire should’ve been the TT
I was not expecting to like the Drip album this much but I did 😅 especially Really Like You and Billionaire. My only skip is Click Clack. The lyrics were the problem for me and it's not even because of the flexing, I enjoy songs like that, but it felt so lackluster and repetitive... Tbh I think I would have given it a pass if the song had been in Korean, if I had read the translation I would know what is was about, but at least I wouldn't remember every single lyric everytime I heard it 😭 Surprisingly, I even liked Wake Up In Tokyo because it feels like a mix between the fun/quirky side of kpop and YG's signature sound, so it was easier for me just to take it as a fun song (idk if that was their intention, but that's how I digest it 😅). Meanwhile, Click Clack was trying so hard to be serious about give them a boss girl image... And it didn't give me those results, it was so inauthentic, nothing that made me say "Yes, these lyrics about how rich and great they are are so babymonster"...
My personal faves on the album are clik clak and love, maybe. Clik clak is honestly such a fun vibe for me(aside from the inappropriateness of the lyrics) and shows off a lot of rapping potential for the members. Love, maybe is an incredible song with beautiful vocals, there ballads so far have been so excellent. Overall I do think they’re coming more into there own identity, an Idea that I had for the group is for the baby side of bm to give disney teen vibes and for the monster to sell what YG already does. The drip mv already gives this off kinda and people said that the monster intro sounds like a descendants reject so why not lock in on that lol.
I'm loving their development I liked most tracks from DRIP. The only thing I want from Babymonster is: Less English verses and more Korean verses in their musics.
Tbh I don't really care about the message. Bm is so talented that, to me, I just want to hear them on a catchy song which is how I used to feel like bp
Anyone noticed now that with 2ne1 coming back, babymonster had a 2ne1 sound in their comeback with drip in order to pull in some blackjacks since most the fandom were blinks. The I am the best sample wasn’t going to go unnoticed. Seems like YG wants to connect babymonster with their glory acts without the thing that made their previous acts so iconic. Undeniable song quality and unapologetic unique attitudes.
I haven't yet listened to the album since I'm still recovering from my longest ever kpop break lol, gotta get to the good stuff first. Honestly, I don't feel like checking it out. Drip and forever don't really sell this as an album worth checking out for me. The songs aren't bad but they're too mid. It's like I've heard those songs before hundreds of times without ever actually doing so. Are the bsides better than the tts tho?
In my opinion, the bsides are the strength of this album. My favorite songs are the bsides, but I'm also a sucker for dance songs like drip. The bsides showcase their vocal ability a lot better. If you like this group's vocals, I would suggest at least giving Love, Maybe, Really like you, and Billionaire a listen.
I really enjoyed Drip and Clik Clak, but they are definitely in the 'shallow fun' category and feel like "YG" songs But I feel like especially tracks 3-5 on the album are a wonderful start at Baemon finding their identity. You can also see it in many of the songs they choose to cover.Their voices excel in RnB and soulful pop. I agree that they don't have that impactful, generational track yet, but I believe it's coming. Though I also wonder - even at a young age they already have such a knack for live performance - maybe that impactful moment doesn't come from a song's release but from an iconic live performance? Either way I'm excited to see what the future holds for them.
Maybe this is delusional of me, but I’d love for Babymonster to get a song from G-Dragon. I think it would be meaningful and maybe hit the target they’re looking for?
I was so focused on Kep1er’s first release as seven that I didn’t even realize Baemon released new music (Tipi-Tap was amazing and imo Kep1er’s Drip was better, gotta love a sapphic song) I agree that Drip was serviceable (I really liked the bridge before it got turned into a traditional YG final chorus) and Clik Clak… it certainly made that onomatopoeia as I dropped it one minute in because yikes. As far as Baemon songs go, Like That and Forever are still my favorites, Drip and Sheesh are a close second.
I quite liked BMs first few releases, and Drip the song is ok, but I find clik clak UNLISTENABLE. I think Money works cuz Lisa is established and rich, but MEOVV and BM are rookies. It doesn’t work.
I wish they made clik clak just for haram ahyeon asa and ruka. They can actually rap. The chorus is terrible. Yg's obsession with putting baemon in hip hop mold is so annoying
@ravenmusicmaker8093 i want them to do something like Like that (with appropriate lyrics). All of them shine in it and it suits them so much. I think also they could do something like dont know what to do or ready for love by blackpink. Flowers, ethereal visuals, fantasy mvs etc.
@@tp5510 I lowkey would want to see them go for an almost red velvet or dreamcatcher style of music, but with a hint of YG (mostly from the post choruses). I feel like their vocals would REALLY shine in songs similar to those. Like that was a good start tho.
@@tp5510 imo billionaire kinda sounds like Like That but with the usual YG ending outro, I think its a decent progression from Like That but I still prefer Like that over Billionaire
Nothing new is being done for them... Nothing I have not seen with all other YG artist... I feel like the team members have great vocal range and this something YG can bank on instead of the similar SWAG that doesn't seem to match the BM girls... Presenting them as a vocal power house...
Sheesh is not quirky. The concept was not Halloween. YG Ent never does concepts. They just put together sets that would go the best with that aspect of the song. The lollipop level of quirkiness was something only Ikon did. Babymonster does emulate BP a lot, but they also emulate treasure in many ways. yg has always done this with its groups. one thing about the drip mv that suprised me was the way the mv was made to be like an advertisement to the entire album.
I feel like with Drip and Click Clack, they are tackling more into what can set BabyMonsters apart from other YG artists, stop comparisons and give them that thing that makes them unique without necessarily diverting from YG's formula.. with this album they definitely level up the quality in their tracks but they still have a long way to go... it is a good improvement compared to battle up and Sheesh, which are not bad songs themselves but something was missing so I hope they keep improving on the music because these girls are the full package and they deserve global success!
I've been following the 2nd generation of YGE since 2013 and Babymonster since the early days of Last Evaluation. I agree with your point about BM's music tending to be more reminiscent of Bigbang and 2ne1 or even Winner, Ikon on the B-sides in this album than Blackpink. It's a good thing that YGE is trying to shape BM in a musical direction that is different from the company's tradition so far. In BM I see the talent of all the members, the fact that they shine in every song so far is admirable to me. Is Drip a hit? For me yes, Drip is BM's best title track so far. This Drip album surprised me with the quality of the B-sides, I mean they are actually better than I expected for a rookie group. BUT the problem I have with this full album is yeah, Clik Clak and Woke Up In Tokyo. I have nothing against the 2 songs but wth YG said that Clik Clak is a rap song where the whole group will be rapping. Meanwhile Rora and Pharita still don't have any rap lines. Ok maybe it's the line distribution issue but overall, Clik Clak doesn't meet my expectations of a rap song. I mean we have Asa's rap which could have expanded to other rap parts but instead they lead to the ending. This left not only me but a large part of the fans somewhat disappointed. Considering it's an album opener I think it's pretty good. As for WUIT, I actually had high expectations for the second part of the song where Asa and Ruka take turns "shooting". But YG surprised me again. For me, this song is not bad, it is quite fun to listen to but can be annoying for some people. Talking about rap unit, people will hope for an explosive song like Woke Up by XG or some products of BM's seniors in YG for example. Anyway, this is the first sub unit of the group so I will temporarily "forgive" YG because this is their new direction and I am happy that they are willing to change themselves. In the end, I think Drip is a good album to listen to, the songs can complement each other and listening to them in order also makes listening to Clik Clak or WUIT easier if you are not familiar with it. Drip is a hit but it is not enough, we are always looking forward to new products from BM and I am also curious about their musical direction in the future. I just hope YGE knows who BM is and what to do with their concept. I like their concept this time but Clik Clak's content doesn't match their age in the industry. Bringing in a rich, domineering style will be a bit off-putting to some people. Hopefully BM will be well-directed and promoted for their music because the whole group is extremely talented❤
I loved the album at the very first listen. I feel like with this album, Babymonster brought the essence of YG and Kpop in general back, but actual good music as well. (We can just ignore Woke up in Tokyo for now😭😭😭)
For Babymonster, i woul like that they continues to purse the sheesh concept where it seems like they are monsters into a fairytale. a mix of Monster High with Ever After High which it resemblace with the group name and their ages. But its so sophisticated for YG where they dont develovep concepts for their groups.
I still believe they should stick more to "forever" style of songs, I loooooved their "really like you" & "billionaire" song compared to drip, click clack & woke up in tokyo could be left behind in dungeon never to be seen again TwT
I like this album, I’ve been a long time fan of a lot of YG groups (I’m actually ancient by kpop fan standards at the ripe old age of 20) but I can safely say that it’s the quality control that’s preventing me from loving this album 2NE1, Big Bang, Akumu, Blackpink, and iKon, never have had this much of a problem in quality control, in fact I would venture to say some of the groups and the 1 duo I’ve listed may have some of the best quality in kpop, but with Baby monster (and treasure but this video isn’t about them) is the quality just isn’t there every time which is fine for most rookies, like get that time in I guess. But we have to be honest and say that the quality isn’t hitting 100%… I mean they couldn’t even rip out Blackpink’s demo backing voices for Batter up and Sheesh, to begin with, and now we have whatever billionaire is . Also I think if we continue to put up a fight of saying blackpink and baby monster can’t or shouldn’t be compared their music will never get to evolve quality wise… it’s not unpolished music it’s active poor quality but it’s fine because Psy was also this way and I think he’s the most comparable YG artist to baby monster at this point
tbh i feel like babymon isnt for me, but the batter up remix is somehow enough of a banger to get on my playlist despite me not caring about the original lol
The thing about sophistication is it's a double edged sword and as such, the most musically complex pieces in pop music tend to have very simple and repetitive lyrics to make the content more consumable, which sometimes confuses the critics and they fend it off as "too dull". Try to imagine Drip with complex lyrical patterns of Eminem and your head wouldn't stop spinning from all the complexity your brain is bombarded with. Not even Eminem makes complex songs as if you notice, the most lyrically impressive flows are rapped over dull four on the floor beats and that's also for a reason. I would even go as far as to say the song is nearly as complex as Rap God, but Eminem made it obviously complex with in your face lyrical structure, but delivered over a boom-boom-clap style of beat, while Babymonster balanced many flow switches and rather complex melodic structure of the backing instruments with simple and catchy lyrics, that may seem "in your face dumb" to super intellectually focused people, but the real deal about the song is not even Eminem makes his most complex songs any more complex as he raps over "in your face dumb" beats. Another good example from the last month is APT. by Bruno Mars and Rose, the song as a whole is actually quite complex and as such the repetitive "Apateu, apateu" makes it not just more catchy, but it also serves a purpose as it simplifies the song for consumption as with a complex lyrical structure, it may have been harder to consume than even Eminem's Rap God and that kind of hurts the views.
This album is so mixed cus I like many of the songs on this album. Only song I don’t like is woke up in Tokyo. Clik clak is a middle ground area for me but I’m warming up. I do think songs like really like you, drip, and billionaire are the best songs up to date. Yg is close to a good point to land Babymonster at
this is aimed at all the haters: youz all cant take the succes they have....let them have funn, let them breath and let them try things out. You all clearly dont understand what the lyrics actual mean...pls go and shittalk about other groups, pls go and talk about groups which arent able to sing live ...you all keep complaing about hard working young girls about so small and specific things only YOU dont like... hundred of millions really like what they do and that harsh and small picking is so annoying, noone would complain on that smal and specific level about any other group...always YG groups, because they have a formular which makes them big and popular artists.... "I can watch your eyes go green" " I can feel your jealousy"...you would understand if you pay attention to the really good things and good lyrics instead of picking the tinyiest problem or mistake they make
Honestly, I didn't like babymonster's discography that much but when drip dropped, my friend told me to check it and I am currently on loop to stream it again and again as it is the song which I used to like from YGe artists. I do feel like YGe getting back on track after the release of king kong and now drip. I just hope they won't go off track coz drip has become benchmark (for now) for babymonster.
While I honestly haven’t listened to any Babymonster b side, I believe that the problem with the group is that the songs (title tracks) just aren’t that good. The members are clearly extremely talented but the songs don’t do them justice and they’ll always be kind of forgettable unless they get better songs
I didn't really like Click Clack or even Drip. But I really love Billionaire. I do agree that they are not comparable to Blackpink, at least to me. I do think they are improving, I just think their style is probably not my thing 😅. Like Ruka and Asa deserve way better than...Woke Up In Tokyo 😬. Those girls are really talented...YG (Teddy) is just not letting them shine like they can
They’re tbh a really good group and I’ve liked all their songs except for the sub unit, as for drip itself I think the album is quite good but I think I need drip to grow on me. CLIK CLAK has some eh lyrics but I like the vibe it gives me. Baemon is gonna be hated for each comeback and drip is no exception oh well that’s fine I’ve seen the way yg appeals to fans and not the kpop fandom as a whole.
Ngl I think many kpop releases would be much more enjoyable if all the stans who found kpop through BTS and expect the same from other groups and those who want to compare their faves to BTS or those who want the same success for BTS or those annoying "armys" who discredit everyone who isn’t like BTS just left the kpop space. BTS became so popular, because they are different than kpop. You cannot really compare them with other kpop groups and I mean this without discrediting kpop. Because kpop is fun and a bit silly and to take lightly. That’s why the real kpop fans are here. The trying so hard to find a deep meaning or message in the songs is annoying af and takes away the joy
I believe that's what yg wants. For you to be more thirsty and crave for more that's why we're all rooting for them bcoz they have unlimited opportunities with the talent this group have, you know we're all waiting for that world class song to be released so hang on 🫶🏼
This!! They juz 7 month old girl group and for 7 month old girl group to have this kind of variety of song on 1 album tht pretty impressive YG know better thn us for fosure
Honestly, I think that BABYMONSTER’s rapline is the only area that is exceptional on a technical level. I think it does the group a disservice to not address how even the vocal line is amazingly proficient at delivering bars, melodic raps, vocal runs and riffs, etc when Lisa’s “Money” gained a lot of traction due in part to how it appeals to the Western market. Asa continues to blow me away with how proficient and knowledgeable she is about the rap/R&B space. The fact that she slid onto this track with a personalized adlib like a rap artist three times her age had me GAGGED.
I do have to say, I had something else that I didn't enjoy in the album other than the production. It seems like the members are not as flexible in vibe in terms of rapping, and sometimes, I feel like the rapping just doesn't fit the song, or the rap isn't the same vibe as the song. The only rapping I enjoyed if I ignored the lyric content and production would be "Clik Clak". I don't think it was super terrible, but it did lessen my enjoyment slightly. "Billionaire" and "Love, Maybe" are pretty nice B-sides though, just to point some of my favorites. I originally was a full-on hater of "Woke Up In Tokyo", but I eventually just became impartial. Not the best they could do, but it's meant to be a fun and unserious song in a Japanese style of music. (I forgot the genre name and couldn't find it, forgive me😭). "Drip" isn't too much my vibe, but I have made it my official twerking song as it is perfect for said activity. (I will absolutely throw it back to this song, nobody shall stop me) The rest are fine, but I don't enjoy nor hate them much. I will say, I still don't know what to think of the album, it's a very bittersweet feeling and I definetly couldn't sit down and listen to this album at all at first, but I understand what they were aiming for. Just needs a bit of better execution, but I am looking forward to future releases, I know there's even better coming soon.
I don't think most people have an issue with a song that has a somehow vapid meaning. Fantastic Baby from BIGBANG has basically 0 meaning, and it's absolutely amazing. But compare the music, the MV, the styling and performances with modern YG. There is only so much one can say about being rich, hot and famous, and the songs start to blend together. If I'm supposed to enjoy this music, I need something else. Give me amazing production. Give me a unique and wacky concept. Give me unusual and fashion forward styling (XG, I'm looking at you). Give me something beyond catchiness. It feels like a lot of these modern concepts are so focused on being cool and nonchalant that they end up restrained and uninteresting.
All the big songs of BlackPink and 2NE1 toke 2-4 years for them to finds the perfect balance. As BabyMonster has only been is the industry 1 year. BabyMonster is the most talented and divers groups YG as ever make. Able to fit any concept. YG's original idea for Pink Punk or BlackPink as Rose' stated in Light of the Sky documentary "They wanted to create a big group 9 to 10 girl. Its going to take time. Hybe is still waiting for the next BTS or YG next BlackPink. Never go to happen for a very long time, If ever. First reasons more competition. Next higher expectations which will never be meet. instead of just enjoying the music but I can't because one lazy dancer which really has nothing to with my listening experience etc. Last, just hate/and lies.
For me, there is something missing from BM's music. i tried to listen to their songs again and again, but it doesn't really stick. I can't help compare them to other YG group's releases where you can identify and distinguish each group's sound. like you can't compare 2ne1 and BP, or Winner and IKON. definitely BB's discography is the most diverse. Treasure's sound is also unique to them. Even BM's attempt on hiphop feels forced and empty. I hope they broaden BM's music genre. I don't want them to end up like BP who has recycled the same concept in lyrics and melody for the past 8 years.
I don’t think my opinion matters much in this conversation (I’m a YG hater since 2016 lol), I just watched Click Clak and Drip’s MVs, thought it was lowkey cringe because in my humble opinion they can’t sell the “rich tough rapper” concept well (maybe it’s because I’m old and have been listening to kpop for almost a decade now, but I look at them and see children playing pretend). If they were older and more experienced in the music industry maybe they would be able to carry the imagine YG likes to give their idols, but I think new kpop fans and children will eat it up, as I did with BAP, BLOCK B and other artists in my time. Anyway, it’s an interesting thing to discuss, and I hope they have a great career ahead of them (at least they have been releasing music waaay more frequently than blackpink, which is a good sign)
Truly, your video is giving this album more credit than the people that made it. Is it impossible that YG this set gameplan for Babymonster? No. But Occam's razor. If a group releases a song like Click Clack (just an example), then they wanted it, with all the ridiculousness that encompasses it, to be apart of Babymonsters' musical identity. Nothing that Babymonster has put out would support this idea either (the return to the unbelievable). None of their songs have the tongue in cheek acknowledgment of haters (just more of the same callouts they've done since debut), an ironic tinge to them, or embelishment in an area other than money. YG has done what they've always done and will continue to do. That has yet to change with Babymonster. Its just more of the same (but worse production and questionable english lyrics). Anyway, love your videos. ❤
@@wireshred I fully admit that giving too much credit to most things is a habit of mine that can skew my understanding 😭 and I agree with you! Clik Clak was definitely made to be representative of Babymonster’s identity, but in my opinion, also just as much of YG Entertainment as a feature of their company’s identity. The explicit call-outs to YGE in this release, and the company-wide focus on elements of Money inform my understanding about this. That’s not the full range of either’s identity, just a feature that they seemingly believe is important to uphold across groups- On Occam’s Razor, I think there are pitfalls to avoiding reductionism so much to the point that we look to the simplest explanation every single time. That being said, “YG has done what they’ve always done and will continue to do” is very likely the right answer to what’s going on lol I don’t think YGE is playing a game of 4-dimensional chess with their releases, but rather just stubbornly charging through the vocal opposition to their sound and concept. It challenges a lot of what’s going on in kpop just out of its pure ignorance - it doesn’t necessarily have to be premeditated. I think “designed” is not the best word I could’ve used to outline my understanding of this album; it does give more credit than is necessary I love your videos too! I watched your drip review while editing this video 😭 it was harsh, but great! Your analytical abilities are sorely needed in the kpop community
Its like bp being ts and bm being olivia. In the we lean to bp and ts no matter how much good bm and olivia are its cause ts and bp are original stars idk they have this vibe
We know the rap game. Its about flexing. But im sorry baby monster doesnt sell it doe me the way xg and bad villian do. It just dosnt make sense this early on to have that type of song. It makes sense when i see ateez do it in ice on my teeth or gidle...but im sorry i just couldnt really vibe with it. Plus the black stereotypical Aave lingo...i was a bit lost
I find it funny how people constantly complain about how western kpop has become (when K-pop’s whole concept was western music) but then talk shit about songs that have no meaning or are “noise music” as if that wasn’t most old kpop songs what greater meaning did songs like ring ding dong, gee, bubble pop and so many more have outside of this sounds catchy 😂
Don’t hate me for this, but this is definitely one of the worst albums I’ve heard this year. Now this has absolutely nothing to do with the girls themselves, but everything to do with YG’s complete inability to create something new or interesting. The whole album through and through is so predictably formulaic and outdated that it honestly just makes me sad seeing the girls trapped in this cycle of recycling songs. We need the YG that created 2NE1 back, the times where they were bringing something new to the kpop table. And I’m not saying they need to scratch their girl crush concept, because groups are still doing that type of music now without it sounding like the producers pulled out a draft from 2016
The only thing I dislike about YG style raps is that they are STILL NOT ABLE to write proper english lyrics, and "eenie meenie catch em by the toe" rhymes are just bad.
Click-Clack is a good song for them but not at their current time, what I meant by that they did good and the song is okay, I love the build-up in the end but the timing for them to comeback doing that song and sing (rap) those lyrics is so wrong and cringe, it feels so out of place ngl. Drip and other songs in the album are great tho. Seeing them doing Click Clack is cool but I can't deny that I cringed. It's like a bunch of girls singing a song similar to Pretty Savage or Love to Hate Me by BP, boasting fame, fortune and independent when even BP did those kind of songs when they are on the top of the world. I mean even Boombayah, a hiphop energetic song that BP sung during their rookie years was just a song about living to the fullest, not so being the best or rich. However, I get it, it's just a song to simply make noise and impress with their charms and talents in rapping but yeah.
It's the cocky concept that makes me unable to fully enjoy the the group, the girls are very talented and they do look like have a lot of fun on their projects, but this superiority and "better than everyone else" attitude they're pushing them to show 24/7 is not for me. Confidence and cockiness are different things
I’ve only listened to Click Clack and Drip and I just think both songs suck. Like i don’t understand why YG just wants all his idols to sound like money hungry a-holes. It’s not cute to constantly go on and on about your money and what (overpriced) brand you wear. That to me doesn’t show that you’re cool and fly. It just makes you sound like you don’t know how to reasonably and smartly spend your (probably non existent) money. Like I hope Chiquita is being paid the money she deserves since she is quite literally working but I don’t care to constantly hear her or anyone else sing about it. There’s more to life than what’s on your wrist or in your bank account. You being rich means literally nothing to me! Sure there nothing wrong with having a fun, free spirited, non serious song. Even if it’s about money. But, that can’t be the only thing you talk about. Especially when you’re only a year into your career. Furthermore, I just think both songs sound so incredibly uninspiring and boring. They don’t sound good or amusing. It’s just literal nonsense. I think stuck in the middle, like that, Dream, and even sheesh are wayyyy better than either of these two songs. I’m not a huge fan of Forever but at least it has some type of substance. I’m sure there will be some songs off the album that I like but these two are just so not for me. I wish I could say I was surprised but…
Baby monster is talented but without Teddy it seems baby monster style and music feels cheap and cringe childish nursery rhyme , I guess it’s just not for me, all these producers and writers and this is what they come up with? Ehhhh talent means nothing if the music is not executed if they want global success they can’t with these types of music
Personally I think BM is really suffering from the lack of teddy production. I have yet to hear a single instrumental of theirs that is even close to teddy on his worst day. Keep that man AWAY from a pen and paper tho trust. 4/9 songs are pretty enjoyable. I think Billionaire is one of their better songs. It shows off their pretty vocals while still being a more uptempo song. Clever subversion done with the title vs lyrical content. I love the idea of a Ruka/Asa song… but like I need them to be serious with the next one fr. And lastly YG is SICK for forcing TWO ballads AND a remix on us for this ‘1st full album’.
I’m kind of surprised Teddy isn’t more involved with this group, but it also makes sense with MEOVV’s debut - I hope they’re able to work around with more of YG’s in-house team going forward! and yeah, the “full album” album being only 7 songs is disappointing but also not too much of a surprise from YG at this point 😭
@@choujimi re: what you were saying about things being not appropriate for the girls… seeing meovv’s second single being titled ‘BODY’…. sigh…. We aren’t getting out of the trenches anytime soon 🫤

You're NOT supposed to that's the whole point
@@baffah3991 tbh i don’t see that, click clack does not give an “unserious” vibe, it wants to be taken seriously but i can’t since it’s just another song with mostly teens talking about how much money they have. i hope the same critic with meovv’s debut song.
off the top of my head songs that don’t take themselves seriously would be like gidle’s queencard or le sserafim’s crazy, they’re a lil silly, fun, goofy and that’s okay! but i don’t see that for click clack

off the top of my head, some songs in kpop that you’re not supposed to take seriously would be like gidle’s queencard, le sserafim’s crazy- they’re fun and a lil goofy songs that you don’t have take super seriously and just enjoy them for being fun. but i don’t necessarily think Click Clack falls into that category with its hip hop style.
maybe i’m missing something, but these are just my thoughts and opinions, and yours might be different and that’s okay too :)
yeah, their lyrics are awful, and really aren’t suitable for them at all, that’s the problem with meow for me too, what money are this kids are talking about 😭
I also agree with your mini analysis of bp.
Tbf lyrical integrity is often rare in kpop in general.
@@ThanhNguyen-pp2jn absolutely right
Yeah, to me Drip is clearly and BY FAR the best song they ever promoted up until now, along side with Like That (even tho it's not a YG song by technicality).
Yeah woke up in Tokyo is like a nursery rhyme 😂 or a ridiculous public experiment 😂

Overall this album was pretty good start for Babymonster I hope they grow even more in the future cause for me the album was a pretty 9/10

ive been saying for a few months now babymonster is more "2NE1" and MEOVV is more "black pink" as everyone goes about comparing both groups to that which has come before babymonster was never meant to be the Blackpink 2.0 everyone wanted them to be they were always meant to be a newer fresher 2NE1 vibe rather than BP

Let's not be pathetic and just live our lives .
I was not expecting to like the Drip album this much but I did 😅 especially Really Like You and Billionaire.
My only skip is Click Clack. The lyrics were the problem for me and it's not even because of the flexing, I enjoy songs like that, but it felt so lackluster and repetitive... Tbh I think I would have given it a pass if the song had been in Korean, if I had read the translation I would know what is was about, but at least I wouldn't remember every single lyric everytime I heard it 😭
Surprisingly, I even liked Wake Up In Tokyo because it feels like a mix between the fun/quirky side of kpop and YG's signature sound, so it was easier for me just to take it as a fun song (idk if that was their intention, but that's how I digest it 😅).
You articulated this so well. Ugh. I could kiss you.....
I’m the first comment omg I was just about to start working on a video but then you uploaded. Ily so much jimi keep up the good work bro
I really enjoyed Drip and Clik Clak, but they are definitely in the 'shallow fun' category and feel like "YG" songs
But I feel like especially tracks 3-5 on the album are a wonderful start at Baemon finding their identity.
I think it would be meaningful and maybe hit the target they’re looking for?
drip is produced by g dragon...

I was so focused on Kep1er’s first release as seven that I didn’t even realize Baemon released new music (Tipi-Tap was amazing and imo Kep1er’s Drip was better, gotta love a sapphic song)
I agree that Drip was serviceable (I really liked the bridge before it got turned into a traditional YG final chorus) and Clik Clak… it certainly made that onomatopoeia as I dropped it one minute in because yikes.

The b-sides on this album are easily among the best from a Big 3 kpop album this year imo
0:59 its embarrassing that their calling this Israeli Sax 😭
Don't take entertainment, acting, fantasy pop music so seriously...,have some fun
Also I think if we continue to put up a fight of saying blackpink and baby monster can’t or shouldn’t be compared their music will never get to evolve quality wise… it’s not unpolished music it’s active poor quality but it’s fine because Psy was also this way and I think he’s the most comparable YG artist to baby monster at this point
tbh i feel like babymon isnt for me, but the batter up remix is somehow enough of a banger to get on my playlist despite me not caring about the original lol
i liked clik clak caused i saw the vission behind the song but with everything surrounding baemon it just feels off for some reason
Yg is close to a good point to land Babymonster at
ok but why did i think this was a 10 min video about a bside from kep1ers new album
this is aimed at all the haters:
youz all cant take the succes they have....let them have funn, let them breath and let them try things out. "I can watch your eyes go green" " I can feel your jealousy"...you would understand if you pay attention to the really good things and good lyrics instead of picking the tinyiest problem or mistake they make
... are you trolling or did you not watch the video?
@ Sorry i forgot the caption… this is Aimed towards all the haters
For you to be more thirsty and crave for more that's why we're all rooting for them bcoz they have unlimited opportunities with the talent this group have, you know we're all waiting for that world class song to be released so hang on 🫶🏼
This!! They juz 7 month old girl group and for 7 month old girl group to have this kind of variety of song on 1 album tht pretty impressive YG know better thn us for fosure
with the exception of wuit, the album is solid
Honestly, I think that BABYMONSTER’s rapline is the only area that is exceptional on a technical level. I think it does the group a disservice to not address how even the vocal line is amazingly proficient at delivering bars, melodic raps, vocal runs and riffs, etc when Lisa’s “Money” gained a lot of traction due in part to how it appeals to the Western market. Asa continues to blow me away with how proficient and knowledgeable she is about the rap/R&B space. The fact that she slid onto this track with a personalized adlib like a rap artist three times her age had me GAGGED.
each member has sooooo much potential but the songs are not reaching the potential they have
I do have to say, I had something else that I didn't enjoy in the album other than the production.
(I will absolutely throw it back to this song, nobody shall stop me)
The rest are fine, but I don't enjoy nor hate them much.
I will say, I still don't know what to think of the album, it's a very bittersweet feeling and I definetly couldn't sit down and listen to this album at all at first, but I understand what they were aiming for. Just needs a bit of better execution, but I am looking forward to future releases, I know there's even better coming soon.
denpa
not me coming from wireshreds review lmao
Babymonster artists are amazzzzing. It's just BP hits have set standards too high for high group.
U should listen to there b-side
I'm not a yg haters 😊
@@starr-eb5ow maybe I will, if I feel like it some day. Good for you =) it's important to have "non haters" too
Don't enjoy listening to Drip at all, and clik clak feels empty but it at least is an improvement, I'll keep giving them chances
That’s not the full range of either’s identity, just a feature that they seemingly believe is important to uphold across groups-
On Occam’s Razor, I think there are pitfalls to avoiding reductionism so much to the point that we look to the simplest explanation every single time. That being said, “YG has done what they’ve always done and will continue to do” is very likely the right answer to what’s going on lol
I don’t think YGE is playing a game of 4-dimensional chess with their releases, but rather just stubbornly charging through the vocal opposition to their sound and concept. It challenges a lot of what’s going on in kpop just out of its pure ignorance - it doesn’t necessarily have to be premeditated. I think “designed” is not the best word I could’ve used to outline my understanding of this album; it does give more credit than is necessary
I love your videos too! I watched your drip review while editing this video 😭 it was harsh, but great! Your analytical abilities are sorely needed in the kpop community
People are tired of the flexing I fear
Its like bp being ts and bm being olivia. In the we lean to bp and ts no matter how much good bm and olivia are its cause ts and bp are original stars idk they have this vibe
this is a bad comparison considering that olivia separated herself from taylor with guts she has her own sound
so far, the only truly good song from them is love, maybe
Agree. They need a better song.
And I’m not saying they need to scratch their girl crush concept, because groups are still doing that type of music now without it sounding like the producers pulled out a draft from 2016
@ I absolutely love girl crush when it’s done right, it’s what got me into kpop
I just can’t like their songs. It always feels so empty to me and it feels like the group got “popular” so fast
It's the cocky concept that makes me unable to fully enjoy the the group, the girls are very talented and they do look like have a lot of fun on their projects, but this superiority and "better than everyone else" attitude they're pushing them to show 24/7 is not for me. Confidence and cockiness are different things
What is israeli sax?
Painfully predictable production! Good alliteration!!
@ move tf around loser. If you knew anything about writing you’d know that alliteration is very pleasing to the ear. Such a sad little person.
I wish I could say I was surprised but…
I'm lost... What is sophistication in kpop?
Baby monster is talented but without Teddy it seems baby monster style and music feels cheap and cringe childish nursery rhyme , I guess it’s just not for me, all these producers and writers and this is what they come up with? Ehhhh talent means nothing if the music is not executed if they want global success they can’t with these types of music
Kpop has never been ‘sophisticated’ lol.
tldr: blackpink was boring and dull as a group & babymonster is actually interesting music and concept wise
That fact that people seem to actually like the song drip is baffling me.
It grew on me fam
@ I mean I guess. Whatever floats your boat.
