All I see are just more problems to come. This new tech is made by a company in which is notorious for having many problems and costly repairs through the vehicles lifespan. Perhaps if it was made by a non-German company the seat could last 100K without giving you problems.

Wow... I love classic cars (1997 Benz SL500) but I must say this is where modern cars have an edge: comfort and safety. Kudos to Mercedes for being on board with this cutting insanity. Great work on the surgery... quite informative.

As a person who can't afford a Mercedes s class, i always thought they were just ridiculously overpriced. It's nice to get a look into just a tiny piece of that massive engineering involved in a Mercedes.
I own a 1989 Mercedes Benz 560SEL. I drove it from southeast Florida to Denver Colorado in under 40 hours. Upon arrival, it felt like i had been in the car for about a hour. Mercedes Benz seats have always been magical. The seats in mine are heated and have memory settings for multiple drivers. That was the upper end of seat technology when the car was built, but the comfort level was off the charts even 30 years ago.

I love Mercedes! That’s so awesome that y’all got to go there!! I use to have an E class and it was my fav car I have had bc everything is just made so well and the seats are so comfy! And it feels so safe being inside one!

Sorry, but I just had to. That aside, basic seats are lighter. And that makes for a more fun car. Plus they're easier to take out if you want/need to do something.

I drive cars for valet and I LOVE these seats! I can’t find any other car with seats that cancel out centripetal force. It is quite amazing, I wish you could get these seats in other cars

I recently upgraded my Passat B5 seats to B5.5 seats and rewired them to work. A friend wanted the leather off my old seats so I methodically removed the leather and was AMAZED at the robustness of the old B5 seat frames and just how much engineering and complexity there was in these old seats. It was even more fun to set off the seat side SRS air bags after I had removed them. After having been a GM technician for almost two decades and having rebuilt thousands of GM seats from everything from a sunfire to a corvettes to cadillacs; I can say that even my old B5 seats blow GM seats out of the water and these Merc seats are just down right insane and awesome and look like NASA designed them!
You should see if you can find some C5 Audi A6 sport seats to upgrade to! They are a direct swap into a passat. that was my dream mod before I ditched my B5.5 a few years back.

My father works at Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart (Sindelfingen, Böblingen) and he had a 2014 S Class for a week. The "hot stone massage" is really amazing and the whole family was happy abot those great seats but the only problem was, the back seat in the middle had no massage and in my family are 5 peoples so i had a fight with my brother and my sister about the uncomfortable seat in the middle.
I really love your channel and this video is so grest because of since i had the relaxing hot stone massage in the S Class Seat, i really wanted to see what's inside of that kind of seat.

I beg to differ. I find them hard and I have the previous model (w221). Maby the new S is better but I haven't sat in one yet. Traditional Merc seats have always been hard - some of the much older cheapo models felt like you were siting on a piece of plywood. Just my 2c.

I must admit they are very good but I prefer slightly softer. I'm from Australia but currently living in Europe so I guess standards around the world are different. What they don't show you in the video is the bladders have a tendency to fail, I've already repaired the drivers side twice. Otherwise it's been very reliable vehicle, mostly only normal wear parts & general servicing.
Sorry forgot to add: depending on your age you may not remember the w201 chassis cars which had very hard seat pad suspended on springs that rocked sideways. Maby USA or other regions got different versions but that's what we had in Australia, You would see lots of many Mercedes cars (even the W126's) with thick sheep skin seat covers fitted and I could never understand why.
@grlg2 Maybe becasue hard is better. Humans are not made anyway to sit on soft surface. Nature is not so soft even if you are sitting on grass.
Soft seats are unhealty and unconfordable on long rides.

Get a Pagani they where modified once and they almost outran a Bugatti they couldn't finish the expirement as it was too dangerous, the Pagani is a beautiful car and fast as well!!

Years ago, I saw this video and, as Dan said, "it felt so wrong" seeing that seat being cut in half with a knife, back in those days I owned and old Mercedes and was curious about the massage in the seats, so this video was definitely the way to go. Who would have thought that 2 years later I became a huge fan of this TH-cam channel.

I saw there were heating pads, massage stones, and fans inside the seat. Did you know the fans inside the seat can make noise sometimes and take up leg room for the rear passengers (if the car was ever smaller)? So both the fans and the massage stones inside the seat can take up some leg room for the rear passengers as well. So that's why my Mom's Chrysler Town and Country doesn't have cooled seats.
8:50 I think when there's air conditioning on, the system takes cold air from back seat air vents under the front seats and pushes it up to cool down the back ;-D

The cooling / venting often gets confused. Cadillac had cooled seats, with thermoelectric coolers in them that did both heating and cooling. Mercedes were ventilated.

you havent seen my glow plug controller module, made by bosch....Worse pcb type, waffer with frog hair wires which break off from the engine vibration.... Terrible. I found a very neat board in my Sclass though, rear SAM module, but closer inspection revealed it was made in australia, not austria
