    i purchased a salvaged 2014 Tesla Model S from Texas for $8k, it was stolen and “flooded” in a field also the CPU and many dash parts were “missing” when i got it to my house i opened the truck and nothing was there and then i opened the front truck (frunk) and all the parts were there some of the parts were even labeled in zip lock bags 😂 after i installed the CPU and fixed some broken wires it started right up, it’s my daily driver and i charge it for free at work!

      you have balls of steel ngl. i would be so intimidated. but thats hilarious that the CPU was the main part needing fixed. its literally a computer car. maybe my IT degree will come in handy in the future of EVs lol

    $4,000 is a steal. I worked at the Mercedes dealership when these were new and this would have been over $100,000. If not it would have been close to that price.

  • @johnmccanntruth
    @johnmccanntruth ปีที่แล้ว +245

    Definitely show us how hard it is getting it back out of salvage. Also curious how much you’ll have in, and then the approximate value after. Sure looks like a big win.

      Some states are ridiculous with salvage titles but for the most part, it's a very in depth inspection by either state police or a state inspector. Paperwork and proof of repairs, and on you go with a new vehicle

  • @rhettsalsbury9394

    • @calholli
      @calholli ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah.. This is the craziest find I've ever seen for sure. $4100 was already a steal for the engine alone. But then when you add in the LOW milage and simple repair; It doesn't even seem real, it's such a good find. Literally a brand new car for $4k plus probably a $800 module.

  • @TheRoadhammer379
    @TheRoadhammer379 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Very surprised a Mercedes "flood" vehicle wasn't snatched up for resale at some shady car lot. After Katrina, there were literally thousands of flood cars and I mean sediment, silt, debris and rust type flood cars being trucked all over the country. Great score Waldo, you are big pimpin now. An Adidas track suit, a gold chain and your best Russian accent is required when driving the S class, 😂

    Absolutely love stories/videos like this - so many of these cars deserve a second chance. I bought myself a flood salvage Cadillac XLR-V at auction and she's been better than I could've ever hoped even before full restoration, unfortunately I'm not a TH-camr or else I'd document bringing her back to perfect

      @@TheRoadhammer379 Same here! Well, aside from building my own hot rods (depending on the era) - I did film the transformation from light flood car through full exterior and interior detailing and I'm continuing to fix little things on her so maybe I'll get the guts to upload one day. It's a rare enough car to rescue and maybe get some views as I've been watching others do for years 😂 cheers man!

      no they don't. those cars are money pits. Sooner rather than later its going to cost a arm and a leg. Sure if you do it yourself it will be cheaper but that's the case with any car. Also some of the OEM tools to handle that specific vehicle cost about 25K $. Yea real bargain.

    @daveh2612 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Nice find! If you haven’t already, make sure you read up on the quirks and features of the M278 engine. First thing you want to do is immediately check the cam position sensor plugs and the cam actuator magnet plugs for oil intrusion and replace them as part of normal maintenance to prevent oil from traveling through the engine harness and damaging other components including the computer. Also get some Ceratec from LiquiMoly in there ASAP. Passenger side cam actuator cover is prone to leaking oil into the alternator and causing it to die prematurely.

    I’ve just bought myself a basket case W220 S500 with rust on every panel, busted brake lines and paint that has been partially sanded down by the previous owner. Despite this the engine and transmission run beautifully and almost everything works. It even has a lot of features my 2018 E63 doesn’t have. If that is genuinely all the problems on this delightful luxury car, it's pure gold. For your climate a comfortable warm 4WD car that will last is hard to beat.
    In Britain we have a system called MOT, if a car can pass that & the write-off wasn't structural, it can usually go back on the road.

    • @berty1422
      @berty1422 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Incorrect. In the UK if the vehicle is written off by the insurance company it is de-registered.
      You have to apply to the DVLA to get it inspected and approved at one of the regional DVLA centres. Once it has passed that, they will issue a new V5 Document.
      I had to do that a few years ago my VW Corrado was written off for a dented bonnet.

    • @plunder1956
      @plunder1956 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@berty1422 I believe its down the the category. A catigiory N write off does not have to be re-registered. This happened to me with my Touran last year. I was surprised when they told me.

    Mercedes-Benz quality engineering is very much in line with your engineering philosophy; quality and robust design. You may want to check 2 weak points of m278, the turbo coolant lines- plastic portions, tend to crack over time. Also the so-called 4 way heater solenoid (under wiper motor) also tends to crack. For the rest the m278 is quite reliable. Best of luck!

    Getting a vehicle re-registered is similar in the UK. You have to repair it and get it checked by the DVLA at one of their test stations.
    Once its checked over and a new registration document is issued - its good to go.
    It is not particularly difficult to get a vehicle re-registered.

    Seems like someone got a tired of paying a high APR loan for that car and needed it totaled out. Happens a lot. Bodyshops make their money by keeping the car in their lots as long as possible charging the insurance company $100 a day. So insurance companies are in a rush to repair or total to not pay the storage fees

    WOW who would dump a beauty like that on to a salvage. Looks like you did not spend too much getting this car back. Wish you luck. And yes that's a beautiful colour too. Had alaways thought that a Benz should be Black I was wrong.

    The intake drain for the cabin air duct blocks up from leaves. If you don’t periodically clean that out, it fills up, and enters, in the blower motor area. Watch out for that!.

    Great find!! The 12-13 are the only versions to own of the W221. I've been buying new W215 and W216 since they came out. I just bought a full Designo CL550 with 11k miles but all my other cars are 600's and still haven't driven any of them over 10k miles. I'm a collector and now own 4
    CL's. The 550's are amazing and love them with a passion!! I'm now into my 2nd C217 63 but I'll never like anything better than the 11-14 CL or the 12-13 S Class's. Enjoy, you're going to love owning this wonderful and beautiful car !!!!

      @@WaldosWorld yes, I tend to buy new cars and end up keeping them. If I miss the boat I try and find exactly what I want with little to no miles. That way, I can have a new car but for a fraction of the cost. As if late finding flawless cars means paying a very high price. I just bought an 11k mile 2002 Jaguar XJR show car, only built for the international auto show circuit. I owned it new and bought it back last month 19 years later. It’s great when you can buy a car and not have to do a single thing. I love the lunar blue S550. You’ll find so many hidden features that will blow your mind. Make sure you read your manuals front to back.

    Dude... just a suggestion. You should ask the State Police to allow you to video the inspection. I'm just thinking that it would be instructive for people who wish to do something similar in the future. Btw, you should get a medal for having worked on the Range Rover. Your patience is impressive. :)
