It’s this or the wr 250f . This crf gets mostly rave reviews for fun factor and knocks for suspension and power. The wr seems to be a bit next level. Leaving more room for growth if the bike can be tame enough for a beginner. I wonder if the wr can be de tuned adequately through mapping app? My gut says buy the crf and outgrow it first. My wallet says one money goes to the wr. Yet a new wr is nearly double the price of a new crf250f . All input is welcome. I haven’t rode a dirt bike for nearly 20 years. Been riding quads. Now at age 55 5”10 185 wanting some variety and adrenaline. All input is appreciated. Thanks for the great videos
@@dctrdredge2139 I think what you said about the WR having a bit more room for growth while still being tame enough for beginners is true. Although I’ve never ridden one… at 5’10” you’d probably fit on the WR just fine so for you it probably just comes down to how much money you want to spend. But since I’ve never ridden a WR idk for sure. Maybe someone else can chime in?
Great video and riding. I have the same use cases as you except I also have a son who's 15, 5'7" and 135 lbs. I'm comparing this to an x-trainer because I think it would offer more room to grow and I could also use it for harder trails instead of my Husqvarna 501. Did you consider an x-trainer? Also, are you planning to modify the suspension with valving and something like a Hagon or Vonkat shock?
I hadn't even heard of the x-trainer until you just mentioned it right now. Looks like a really cool bike, fantastic idea. Unfortunately I don't have a beta dealer near me but it looks like it would be badass. The honda was a lot more affordable for me than that would have been though, that's the only downside of the xtrainer. Haven't thought abt doing any suspension work to the crf250f just yet, but depending how much i end up riding it i may opt for that in the future. thanks for the comment ill definitely be going down the xtrainer rabbit hole now lol
I think it ultimately depends on the type of riding you plan on doing. Coming from the 501, none of the power will be surprising. If the goal is putting around and pushing it every now and then, I think the 250f would be great. Reliable as an anvil, minimal and easy maintenance… really it’ll add to your stable and not increase needed attention for potential maintenance. If you want something slower for gnarly single track where maneuverability is king.. xtrainer. I didn’t feel like the xtrainer was as good going fast but man it could handle
@@chrispoland3524 makes a ton of sense. Will definitely look into that in the future. There's a beta demo kinda far from me in a couple months but i might try to make it out there
I want one but the place that’s local to me requires to have a auto loan for 1 year or more or a co-signer have to have a auto loan for 2 years or more
I'm not a great rider, but have ridden a ton of high end 300 two strokes, four strokes, etc. My current ride is a dual sport WR250R. I found riding the 250F one of the funnest most competent machines I have ever had on single track. Didn't like the 250X all that much compared to a KTM 300, Beta 250R , etc. Wonder how hard it would be to shed 15 pounds with rims, exhaust and battery?
Honestly you probably could shed a decent amount of weight by doing stuff like that Not sure exactly how much But yes I totally agree! For some reason it’s just an extremely fun bike haha
@@notsoupmoto I saw in the Crosstraining enduro review that they had shed 20 pounds on this bike by spending $$. I know when I rode it I thought it might be interesting to make a gold plated 250F because the cost of entry is so low and there is no more controllable bike I have ridden in slow stuff. If it was 20 pounds lighter, had tubliss system running low pressure, and suspension optimised for my weight (180) it would be more or less my perfect dirt bike for getting through things smoothly and steadily. I had a YZ250X before and it was amazing but only wanted to race. At 65 I just want to execute what is before me and not get hurt. I love light dirt bikes. I enjoyed your review of it.
glad you enjoyed the review! I really want to get my own 250x haha my buddy has one and it's a beast. but you're right sometimes you just want something to tackle whats in front of you and nothing more
Crap! I bought a 2023 for my wife last year as her first bike and she hasn't even ridden it in like 9 months. I love riding it. Maybe it's time to just steal it and upgrade everything for myself. Sometimes I think it's more fun than my 350. It's just chill to ride.
I sold my yz125 with Athena top end kit about 5 years ago, im thinking of getting another yz125 or is the 2k difference worth it for a 4 stroke with smooth constant powerband as opposed the having to be on the pipe for the 2 stroke, plus the no mixing and fuel injection.
that all depends on the type of riding you want to do. if those aspects of the 4 stroke trail bike seem appealing to you then I say go for it. or even look for a used one. I love my 125 as well it's just a different tool for a different job
@notsoupmoto my mx track days are over, I just want to trail ride and do relaxing ohv rides... I'm torn between the crf250f and the street legal klx230 for trail riding, my sister and her brother like to dried river beds through the night on their quads and their rzr, so the klx230 is a plus on that, for the crf250f one of the 1st things I would do is add lights for night riding...
@@2K6GSXR1000 100% agree with the lights on the crf. that's the next thing i wanna do to mine. i think the klx and crf would both be good options for what you want to do
@@notsoupmoto no im currently planning for this to be my first dirt bike. but i will take the r model since here in europe its hard to get an f model cause of the emission regulations or something
careful with the 250R if it's your first bike. the R is an mx competition style bike, liquid cooled with wayyy snappier power delivery than the 250f. check out my video on the topic so you know the difference between these categories before buying th-cam.com/video/kYEuy8fPwy0/w-d-xo.html it's definitely a bit confusing with the names at first since honda makes them so similar
gotta say if ur starting to learn motocross the 250f is great i had it but the suspension isnt good, i would say ur first bike get the 250f and ride it for a year and a half then u might look into a 250r i just upgraded to a 250r away from the f and it was the best choice, just saying if ur on the motocross side its not the best from my time riding it. mr soup keep it up man
thanks for the comment! i totally agree. If motocross is what you're looking to learn then the 250f is only going to take you so far. once you have the basics down you'll need to move up to a more moto suited bike.
i have experience on small trail bikes all through the sizes from a 96’ crf70 to a crf100, this looks like the dad of those, and on top of that, i’ve always wanted a loud full size bike with those cool forks, but why would this bike be better than the crf250rx? besides the lack of maintenance this one requires. i’m debating between the 2. i’m 5’10 139lbs. thanks 🙏🏻
If you’re talking about the 150R, it’s more of a race bike compared to this 250F. The power delivery is much more snappy on the 150R whereas the 250F will feel like a tractor. Either one would be fine for a beginner to learn on, just keep in mind the 150R will be much more snappy with its power delivery.
I have a crf230f and I was looking for something with more power and little more grit. Would this be a good pick or should I consider a crf R or something along those lines?
If you already have the crf230f and are looking for something with more power then the crf250f wouldn’t be a good idea. The 250f is the updated version of the 230f so basically the same as what you have now. You should look at something like a 125 2-stroke, 250 four stroke motocross bike, etc. Honda crf250r or crf250rx depending if you’ll be doing moto or woods respectively. A 2-stroke 125 is a really fun bike in my opinion too. Affordable maintenance. Much more power, zippier than the crf230f/250f. It is a 2-stroke motocross bike but still beginner/intermediate friendly. Plus they are fun as hell to ride
@notsoupmoto thanks man! I appreciate the feedback. I'm interested in the 250rx because I do a lot of trail riding and I need some zip. But Thank you for the feedback.
I actually made a whole video on sizing the crf! th-cam.com/video/YVN34KEnspQ/w-d-xo.html But if ur looking for something with a tame throttle delivery as your top priority then yes, this is a good option. I’m 6ft 170lbs and i feel just fine on it. If u find the suspension is a problem you can always adjust/upgrade it pretty affordably and can also do things like getting taller bars etc to help
the suspension is nearly identical on the 2002 xr250r and the new crf250f bikes. Both 41mm front forks (conventional style not the modern upside down forks you find on mx bikes) and the rear suspension are both pro-link adjustable shocks. with the xr250r being 22 years older I'd imagine the new crf250f has a bit better quality just being newer but as far as the suspension technology goes they're nearly the same. However I was unable to get specific details on if there have been any key changes to the shock. you'd have to do some more research on it.
I am a 53 yo avid mountain biker, haven’t ridden motorcycles in about 12 years, but used to be an intermediate level woods rider. Want to get back into it but don’t want to deal with excessive power, maintenance, price and hype. Just want to have fun, but want to make sure I don’t under bike. Will be riding in technical woods, Oregon. Is this a good choice?
i haven't taken it on any super technical trails yet but from other people's anecdotes and videos i've seen, the crf is very capable after some upgrades. Seems like ppl change tires for the type of terrain they're riding then upgrade the suspension. Check out th-cam.com/users/AdventureDaily and their videos on the crf.
I’ve had one for about a year and a half. Facebook Marketplace is a good place to locate a used one. This is a good single track bike but it’s not only for beginner riders. I’ve been dirt biking for 57 years. Gummy tires are always a good idea on a dirt bike. Ground clearance is a problem. Contact Hyperlite Moto for a skidplate and items to raise the suspension. Bruce’s Suspension is a good upgrade. Barkbusters and a Pro Taper handlebar are good upgrades. Top speed is irrelevant to me so I use a two tooth larger rear sprocket which will fit with the stock length chain. I run the stock exhaust system. It provides plenty of power without any excessive noise. The rear fender is too short and narrow and will cover your back and the seat with mud. Make or buy an extension. I hate to have mud cover the cooling fins on an air cooled bike so I made a mud guard attached to the top of the skidplate to prevent that. If you run a short clutch lever, the pull becomes a little stiff. Hyperlite Moto has a kit that makes the pull much easier.
What kind of riding do you plan on doing in the future? And are you okay with upgrading to a different bike down the line or are you looking for something you won’t grow out of? Both are good bikes but the 150r is going to be more snappy on power delivery compared to the 250f while pulls more like a tractor
@@Lilķïłļà4669 in that case, jumping isn't as much of a factor so you'd be fine to go with either but the 250f is probably going to last you longer plus you'll have less frequent maintenance than you will have to do with the 150r
I gotta question does it feel underpowered bc i got a 2004 crf 150f and want to get a 2024 250r but i wouldn't mind riding a 250f i just want to ride a really powerful bike and idk if the 250f will be a big step for me bc ive ridden bikes my whole life
Thanks for the comment! The 250F is not super powerful so if you're looking for something that's super snappy and has a lot of power to it then i'd definitely lean more towards a liquid cooled race bike. Depending on what type of riding youre doing (Ex. if woods riding CRF250RX if motocross CRF250R) If you've been riding the 150 for a while and feel pretty comfortable on it then you're probably good to move up to an actual race bike at this point. It will feel way different than what you're used to tho so just be ready to take some time to get used to it! Have fun!
@@notsoupmotothx for the answer this helped me a lot I ride mainly trails but want to get more into motocross and I do feel really good on the 150 I've had it for Abt a year and want to move onto a big bike so I think im gonna look into the 250rx

From what I’ve seen, the top speed of the 250f stock is somewhere in the ballpark of 60-70mph. That’s just what Google says. I haven’t tested it out as the bike doesn’t have a speedometer.
Hi buddy quick question my neighbor is selling the 2019 crf250f $4,200 like new just 10 hours on it I just want to know if anything upgrade 2024 or is the same since 2019 ?
I found a 2020 on Facebook Marketplace a year and a half ago that was absolutely pristine for $3500 with a title. You might want to shop around some more.
I'm 6ft and fit fine on it for chill riding just putting around but for aggressive trail riding i'm a bit cramped. there are different mods you can do to make it fit better. check out my video about the sizing of the crf250f to help you out with making your decision th-cam.com/video/YVN34KEnspQ/w-d-xo.html
I really considered purchasing one of these but ended up going with a GPX300FSE. After riding both bikes, I can assure you that there is really no comparison. They are similar in weight, but the GPX is better in every other way. Most of us who have ridden for a while would end up spending a fortune on suspension and motor upgrades for this bike. I have had Honda XR’s for most of my adult life and I can tell you that I’m truly disappointed that they would not include fully adjustable suspension on this bike.
Totally depends on what you'll be using it for. The KTM's are quite expensive, however they're purpose built for a certain type of riding that can be very demanding. They're extremely well engineered and from what i've heard, you get every bit of what you pay for it. The CRF250F is much more affordable but they aren't really comparable to the KTM enduro bikes. This is an air cooled trail bike that will feel like a tractor compared to the race/enduro bikes which are like sports cars. If you're just wanting to putt around and you're somewhat of a beginner looking to develop your skills, I feel like the honda is the better value. You'll end up spending less money now and you can always sell and upgrade later.
Definitely not. I'm also 6ft and the ergonomics feel perfectly fine for me. As for the weight if you end up feeling like the suspension is too soft you can always get stiffer springs!
I believe you’re referring to when I was doing wheelies. “Clutch up” just means to pull the clutch in, give the bike throttle, and let the clutch out fast enough to pop the front wheel up.
My son is 14 but about the same height. We bought 250F for my wife but he rides it too. He said it's the funnest bike he has ever riden and can keep up in pretty much any trails we go to when quading. Even mud, quad trails and steep rocky hills. This little thing is truly an unbelievable bike and a great learning machine for any age above 13/14. I kind of want one for myself now too. Lol
Some are, but these ones that are marketed towards beginners are often times air cooled. Just makes for a less snappy bike with smoother power delivery. I say “trail bike” but what I mean is beginner friendly bike.

Maybe someone else can chime in?
i have the 2022..best all around bike made. period.
i would agree

I want one but the place that’s local to me requires to have a auto loan for 1 year or more or a co-signer have to have a auto loan for 2 years or more
That’s unfortunate:(
I'm not a great rider, but have ridden a ton of high end 300 two strokes, four strokes, etc.
Honestly you probably could shed a decent amount of weight by doing stuff like that
Not sure exactly how much
But yes I totally agree!
It's just chill to ride.
haha definitely go for it. such a fun bike! thanks for the comment
@@2K6GSXR1000 100% agree with the lights on the crf. that's the next thing i wanna do to mine. i think the klx and crf would both be good options for what you want to do
im just dreaming of having this bike (as a beginner) as i watch this video :D
awesome! do you have a bike currently or would this be your first bike?
@@notsoupmoto no im currently planning for this to be my first dirt bike. but i will take the r model since here in europe its hard to get an f model cause of the emission regulations or something
careful with the 250R if it's your first bike. the R is an mx competition style bike, liquid cooled with wayyy snappier power delivery than the 250f. check out my video on the topic so you know the difference between these categories before buying th-cam.com/video/kYEuy8fPwy0/w-d-xo.html
it's definitely a bit confusing with the names at first since honda makes them so similar
@@notsoupmoto alright i will check it out👍🏻
If you know, how many design aspects/general inspiration do you think Honda took from the 04-15 crf250x/crf250r?
it's mainly just the aesthetics like the plastics and stuff. everything else on the crf250f is quite different from those two models you mentioned
gotta say if ur starting to learn motocross the 250f is great i had it but the suspension isnt good, i would say ur first bike get the 250f and ride it for a year and a half then u might look into a 250r i just upgraded to a 250r away from the f and it was the best choice, just saying if ur on the motocross side its not the best from my time riding it. mr soup keep it up man
thanks for the comment! i totally agree. If motocross is what you're looking to learn then the 250f is only going to take you so far. once you have the basics down you'll need to move up to a more moto suited bike.
i have experience on small trail bikes all through the sizes from a 96’ crf70 to a crf100, this looks like the dad of those, and on top of that, i’ve always wanted a loud full size bike with those cool forks, but why would this bike be better than the crf250rx? besides the lack of maintenance this one requires. i’m debating between the 2. i’m 5’10 139lbs. thanks 🙏🏻
Easier to go slower and putt around on than the full size 250rx would be. Just all depends what kind of riding you want to do
Hey man I want to buy the 150 But I think it might be to underpowerd should I opt for the 250 or 150 as a begginer
@@notsoupmoto Thanks for that, I love acceleration so ill go for the 150R just want something fast and easy to work on :)
I’ve never ridden the 150R but they seem like awesome bikes from what I heard! Hope you enjoy :)
But Thank you for the feedback.
im 6'2 200lbs, beginner. Would this bike be suitable for my size? ty!
I actually made a whole video on sizing the crf!
th-cam.com/video/YVN34KEnspQ/w-d-xo.html
But if ur looking for something with a tame throttle delivery as your top priority then yes, this is a good option. I’m 6ft 170lbs and i feel just fine on it. If u find the suspension is a problem you can always adjust/upgrade it pretty affordably and can also do things like getting taller bars etc to help
I am curious i had a 2002 xr 250 how would this compare am i wrong thinking the xr would have better suspension
the suspension is nearly identical on the 2002 xr250r and the new crf250f bikes. Both 41mm front forks (conventional style not the modern upside down forks you find on mx bikes)
and the rear suspension are both pro-link adjustable shocks.
with the xr250r being 22 years older I'd imagine the new crf250f has a bit better quality just being newer but as far as the suspension technology goes they're nearly the same.
However I was unable to get specific details on if there have been any key changes to the shock. you'd have to do some more research on it.
Dang I need this bike
It’s a pretty neat little bike
@@notsoupmoto awesome thanks for the quick response. Great video
@@milesholland6826 no problem! thx for the comment!

@notsoupmoto something I won't grow out of is best for me I think
What kind of riding do you plan on doing? Any moto with jumps or just strictly woods trails?
@@notsoupmoto woods and trails
Depending on what type of riding youre doing (Ex. if woods riding CRF250RX if motocross CRF250R)
If you've been riding the 150 for a while and feel pretty comfortable on it then you're probably good to move up to an actual race bike at this point. It will feel way different than what you're used to tho so just be ready to take some time to get used to it!

Is this bike a better value than a KTM 300XC? Thx

Haven’t been on a dirt bike in 30 years. I’m 6’ 220 lbs. is this bike too small for me?
Definitely not. I'm also 6ft and the ergonomics feel perfectly fine for me. As for the weight if you end up feeling like the suspension is too soft you can always get stiffer springs!
