Blue was written for Patsy Cline but she died in a accident and never sang it , the composer put the song away and said nobody could sing it, then one day he heard LeAnn Rimes sing in a talent contest at the age of 13 . he was so impressed that he got the song out of his safe and had LeAnn Rimes sing it. It is so much like Patsy so incredible.

Hey guys. This song is old. It was pitched to Patsy Cline via a tape given to her husband. Sadly Patsy died before recording it. Leann does a great job on it. There is another great performance of it worth listening to as well. There is a family bluegrass/gospel band called The Petersens. One of the gals (Ellen) sings this song and is equally amazing. You should check out their band too. That is indeed yodeling. Whenever you hear that break at the high end (even if it's just one note) it's a yodel.

Patsy died before she ever heard the song. It was written in 1958 by Bill Mack. He has continually denied that he wrote it specially for Cline. Before LeAnn, the song was recorded by at least five artists (Mack himself in 1958, Kenny Roberts in 1966, Roy Drusky circa 1960-70s, Polly Stephens Exley in the late 1980s, and Kathryn Pitt in 1993).

"Blue” was written in 15 minutes by Bill Mack. In his autobiography Bill Mack’s Memories from the Trenches of Broadcasting. In it, he maintained that he never had Cline in mind while writing the song. Leeann was only 13 when she recorded it. At 14 she recorded "How Do I Live" It was to be used in the movie "Con Air". Hollywood executives thought LeAnn Rimes was too young to sing the song & got Trisha Yearwood to record the song.

Bill Mack wrote this song in 1958, in a matter of 15-20 minutes. He hoped to successfully pitch it to Patsy Cline. He recorded a demo and sent it to 4 star records, who signed Ms. Cline in 1954. When she moved to Decca Records, he sent a copy of the demo to them.
