Technically Patsy is flawless. Her pitch, tone, her cry that would be destroyed by autotune. So lucky we have these recordings of such a great artist.

Autotune has destroyed music.... It literally sounds like you are listening to a song that is in a video game. All sounds the same, no soul, no heart, no character.

@@ratman5727 - You should listen to Link Wray's song Fire and Brimstone. It is on YT. Listen carefully to the percussion. It is not the same throughout. He reportedly cut that album in his chicken coop on his Maryland farm in 1971. And he used odd things like nails in a jar for some of the percussion. Also, I heard that he insisted on all songs being done in one take. No splicing. REAL music. I think you'll like it!

I know how you feel. An artist whose premature death makes me feel sad is Selena, which is a bit surprising considering that I never knew about her until Dreaming of You was released posthumously. Ever since watching the movie of her life, I feel very sad whenever I hear her music. Same holds true for Patsy Cline, thanks to her biopic Sweet Dreams.

    • @liaboyd8464
      @liaboyd8464 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@talltulip oh yes. Selena's death was such a tragedy. It's one thing to mourn an artist, and we do for her. It's something bigger to know she was ushering in a change to popular music. If Selena had the chance, I believe she would have changed the landscape of pop music. I only know a bit about Tejano music. What I do know is because of Selena.

Roger Miller was so distraught upon hearing of the crash, he immediately went out to the crash site.....looking for ......anything. He saw bits of wreckage everywhere but no bodies, and then realized the flesh was everywhere......in the trees, foilage, and realizing the damp footing.....under his very feet. I doubt he ever recovered from that experience.

I will never forget the day she died. I woke up in a hotel in Jacksonville, Florida to the sound of my bedside radio. The disc jockey was playing one Patsy Cline song after another, and I was puzzled? What is this? Then he said we are playing only Patsy today in memory of the greatest female voice in recording history. She was killed in a plane crash and is gone. I sat there stunned. I knew music would never be the same. RIP Miss Patsy

This was part of the famous "Last Session" recordings. "Sweet Dreams" was recorded February 5, 1963, One month to the day before Patsy's death in a plane crash on March 5. She also recorded "Faded Love" during that same session, and may I suggest you give that a listen? It was a stunning performance, even more so than "Sweet Dreams", my opinion only, of course. My parents would go every Saturday night to the Sportatorium in Dallas for the "Big D Jamboree". Patsy made her first of many appearances there in November of 1961, and I'm sure we saw her that night. I was too young to remember, though. The quartet you mentioned was called The Jordanaires, as well as the piano that you pointed out was played by Floyd Cramer, famous for his song "Last Date".

So I have been in love with Patsy Cline for years now! Her amazing voice, she says, is attributed to having rheumatic fever & a terrible throat infection when she was young. All I know is that no one, I mean no one, sounds like Patsy Cline!! When I was going through a terrible divorce, I would take long drives & listen to her music & it always made it a little easier to take, even though I was the one who wanted it!! It’s like a death of sorts!
I also love KD Lang, and I think it’s because she was inspired by Patsy! Just a legacy of beautiful music in her short 8 years!! ♥️. You both get it!! Like no other!! Please try Crazy next!!
    ♥️The old white woman

The term for the 'ripple' in her singing voice is vibrato. Her voice is one of the best and not many can come close to it. Leann Rimes managed to do her justice when she covered 'Blue' by Patsy.

I grew up on this type of music. My dad was a HUGE country western fan. He passed away in 2018 and his very favorite artist was Ray Price. I'm so happy that he got to see him in concert before he passed. If you could play "I Won't Mention It Again" by Ray Price, I would be so grateful. I think of my wonderful father everytime I hear it and it always makes me cry...and smile. Love you guys!

Patsy Cline is the only female singer who causes me not sing at all because I don't want to miss one note she's so passionately singing. SO MUCH emotion in every note, every song, every album. Patsy was a contralto...extremely rare.
Throw in the character, color, and power of her voice; it's heart stopping, and so incredibly moving.
Her phrasing is uniquely her own...she owned everything she ever sang.
She left us at age 30. Can you imagine what she would have gone on to achieve had she lived longer?! As it is, she left a legacy of beautiful songs that people still listen to today. That what makes her legendary. The longevity, and the artistry.
Owen Bradley, her producer, found the right ingredients to compliment Patsy's voice and style in the studio. He also brought in the Jordanaires (who backed Elvis, as well) as back up singers, and the recipe was perfected.
I love that you guys get Patsy. There was this raw, and authentic quality to her singing that makes listening to her, almost a spiritual experience.
I love your, Female Fridays!! Another wonderful reaction y'all❤❤
