I could be wrong but, from my understanding, LeAnn Rimes was age 11 when she first sang this song, and age 13 when she recorded and released it, and age 14 when she did the video.
She recorded it once at 11 and then again for release at 13. There was a mixup with the tapes and the 11 year old version is what got released as a single. Youngest person in history to win a Grammy
This song was actually writte for one of the best female country artist before she died in a plane crash. she was picked to play the song later. react to patsy cline.

That baby girl had a voice on her!!! She was only 13 or 14 when she first cut an album, but man could that kid sing!! She is around 40 now, and she still can sing better than most artists. Thanks!
They call that "yodel" the "High Lonesome" and it is a respected ability in Country Music. Not many people can make that sound, and LeAnn is a natural at it...
Leanne was only 13 years old when this released amazing that this voice came out of someone so so young! People in country music said she was trying to sound like Patsy Cline and though she did later in her amazing career she got her own sound and is just an icon in country music!!
It astounds me when people say she was "trying" to sound like Patsy Cline!! I don't know much about singing. I'm a shower singer and I can sing in different voices but I cannot, for the life of me, sound like Axl Rose!! LeAnn does sound a bit like Patsy but that's her voice. She just happened to remind people of an icon and there is nothing wrong with that.
This song was originally written for Patsy Cline. It has been held since Patsy passed away, for someone to come along worthy of this song. Then along came LeAnn Rimes at 13 yrs old!!! It was meant to be for her!!! ❤️❤️❤️💙💙💙
The first time I heard Leann sing this, I thought it was Patsy Cline. I nearly fell over when they said it was sung by 13 year old Leann. She is incredible.
This song was written for Patsy Cline, but she died in a plane crash & she never recorded this wonderful song the composer put it away thinking that there would never be another singer like Patsy! Then he heard LeAnn Rimes sing at a singing contest (13 years old) & the song was brought out of the vault, and the rest is history 😊. I am sure that Patsy is smiling down on MS. Rimes every time she sings 💎💜🎁 ** watch LeeAnn sing a Patsy Cline Tribute at an award performance in Las Vegas , 😇💖
I remember when she broke into country music... I think this song was written for Patsy cline but she died before it was released, so they waited for the perfect singer and the definitely found the right person to sing this song!!
This song was written and performed by contry singer Bill Mack in 1958. He denied that he wrote it for Patsy Cline saying he didn't wrte it for Patsy, he didn't write one for anyone.
@@DonerMan62 I think Bill actually approached Patsy to offer it to her. This was a few years after he recorded it. She asked for a tape and was interested but fate got in their way.
Bill Mac wrote that song for Patsy Cline, but she passed away before recording it. He waited many years to find another singer to record it. It is timeless and LeAnn is amazing. Yes, she was 13 when she originally recorded it.
Leann was only 13 years old when she recorded this song and 14 when this music video was recorded. This song was written by a man named Bill Mack in 1958 and thanks to Leann Rimes he won a Grammy Award for it in 1996 which was 38 years after he wrote it. Some people think that he wrote this song for the legendary country artist Pasty Cline but he has said many times that he did not write this song for Patsy and nobody was the inspiration for it, that was just a rumor that got started because Leann sounded so much like Patsy. It was a year or 2 after he wrote it that someone suggested he pitch it to Patsy Cline, but she was killed in a horrible plane crash before he ever got the chance to.
For those interested in the history on the song BLUE. It was written by a DJ named Bill Mack for Patsy Cline and she was not able to record it before her death. Bill held the song for Years and years until he heard Leann sing the national anthem at a ball game. Bill sent a demo to her father to see if Leann would be interested in the song. She fell in love with it and recorded it twice actually over a two-year period. Once at 11years and again at 13years old. The first recording which is the one you're listening to hear was recorded when she was 11years old. After she recorded It they shelfed it for two years while negotiating with two different record labels. One wanted to shelf it and the company Curb wanted to release it, so Leann went with Curb records and recorded the song again at 13 years old just before the official release. Funny thing is the one released was the original recording at 11yrs old. Leann explained the mix up was a mistake and the recording at 13yrs should have been the one released. There was one word that was incorrect on the 11yr recording that was corrected on the later recording. The word was " weak " as in the line "week words you whisper". The correct word as written was "Sweet" which was updated in the later recording. Bottom line is Leann won a Grammy at 14 for the hit song she recorded at age 11. She is a massive powerful pitch perfect voice. A real talent!
Sounds like a song Cline would have sung. Thanks for that interesting bit of info. Le Ann Rimes is super talented. Wonder what happened to her career? She was prodigious like, Brenda Lee.
She has better than perfect pitch. LeAnne has the ability to tune the notes to the chords. Autotune sings white notes and black notes. A true musician sings in the cracks just right.
When this was released 27 years ago, it was an earthquake in the music industry. Everyone who heard it for the first time on the radio pulled their cars to the side of the road…mothers yelled to their kids to shut up… And everyone’s jaw dropped to the floor.
