17 weeks Electro Technical Officer Course is a pre-sea training course approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). The course is designed to give adequate knowledge and skill to candidates to take on the responsibility as Electro Technical Officer in Merchant ships.
Electro-Technical Officers Course is a specialized course which is mandatory to those who want to serve on ships as an electro technical officer.
After course-
Upon successful completion of the classroom training, cadets are awarded with pre-sea course completion certificate and qualified to join a ship as an Electro Technical Officer, where he/she is required to complete at least 8 months’ training service in merchant navy vessels.
After training period-
Upon completion of the training period, one is to awarded with Certificates of Competency (CoC) under new category of technically qualified and trained officer.
Educational Qualification
The candidate should hold a Bachelor's Degree
B.E. / B. Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication / Communication Engineering or Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering after attending a course of 4 years duration from a UGC recognized University and or approved by AICTE with minimum 60% aggregate marks, minimum 60% marks in the final year;
In class 12th or equivalent have scored minimum 60% marks in PCM or Diploma aggregate 60%.
For Diploma candidates with lateral entry to 2nd year of B.Tech, need to have scored 60% and above in Diploma followed by the Degree eligibility criteria.
English
Should have obtained not less than 50% marks in English as a separate subject, at either 10th or 12th standard conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
Age Limit
Maximum age should not exceed 28 years on the date of commencement of course - usually commences in March every year.
Physical and
Medical Standards
Physically fit and should meet the medical requirements as specified by DGS guidelines, eyesight 6/12 in each eye without visual aids and no colour blindness.

Hey I am 16 years old ,I live in Greece and I have few questions.Should I join merchant navy?My goal is to work on a cruise ship as a navigation officer is that possible if yes how?Is it necessary to work on cargo ships to get to cruise ships?also how much manual work is there? My other options are the army and airline pilot(bit expensive though).Can anyone explain to me how it works?
Hiya, you'd need to do a cadetship to train to be a deck officer. In the UK this is 3 years. A company will sponsor you through it- e.g. MSC Cruises would sponsor a cadet through college and they would do their sea time training on MSC Cruise ships. Some companies put you on different vessels depending on who has a cadet berth available. I did mine with an oil major so my training was exclusively on oil tankers. Hope that helps.

Maersk = 1500 reefers, two people. Who plugs in and plugs out, all the reefers lots of rest hour violations is being not reported. No extra pay for plug in plug outs plus no help from deck or engine. So stay away guys if you are eto Maersk is not the best place to work if you are looking for workplace safety and mental health.

I just recently talked to an ETO in Maersk and asked about the work life because I'm looking to do ETO course. He replied that " it's the most relaxed ships he's ever done". Maybe people's experience may differ. Sir if you can please share your expreicne.
@@joseph4500 haha depends on vessel if he's in tanker fleet its kinda okay. And depending on ship it changes. Ask him about L class vessels.

@@srivatsavmattaparthi4915 I would suggest you to get a sponsorship before spending this much money on such course if your family finds it difficult to try the luck. I know a lots of people unemployed even after completing the course. We all hear the successful stories but no one will come to know the life of people who failed. Try SCI if I am not wrong they provide sponsorship but you have to study well to get in. ( if you have any experience in high voltage industry it will be an plus point when you do job hunting).
