Engine and gearbox are very reliable. The chassis/wheel arches and side steps rust so be aware. Get underneath and check. It's old school engine is easy and cheap to work on. If there is slight rust at the wheel arches, scrape off the undercoat as it travels further than you can see. I love mine and plan on keeping it for as long as I can.

Based on this video I picked a 05 Sport same as this, 113k. Treated it to a decent hardcore interior and exterior valet, including engine compartment. Also a major and detailed service. All that needed replacing were the brake discs. Very pleased with it. I didn't want the traditional builders van or to spend a fortune on a new Wildtrack etc this is perfect to chuck tools etc in the back for work but also do the school run. My one doesn't have a keyless remote that is a pain, but getting that sorted with a remote unit that can be added to existing central locking. Ta

Had our '54 plate Shogun Sport Equipe 2.5TD for about two years now. They are rarer than you might think in this age bracket. Just under 140,000 miles on it. Prices vary wildly as they are becoming more sought after. Past 06 you get the common rail on the diesel engine. Fuel pipes like rotting through - but are a cheap fix at about £90. Remember to drop the tank through. Flashing 4X4 lights of Doom are a common problem - but again an easy fix. Good owners group that is easy to find on Facebook. We've been getting better mileage than most quoted so far - but this is the bog standard engine that will just seem to run forever. NOT a motorway cruiser. Doesn't like being pushed to 70mph - but a great daily driver for us and it likes intimidating Disco's into ditches thanks to that turbo cooler scoop on the bonnet.

i live out in the sticks, and are surrounded by shoguns and l200s. i have a 2006 shogun sport warrior. i would not have any outher truck. it is my daily driver. and earns my living as my recovery truck. these things are bullet proof. even if the timing belt snaps, it just breaks a rocker finger and the rest of the engine is ok. most people are shocked how good these things are off road, and if you get the 18 inch rims you can throw them round bends on road. they are a genuine swiss army knife of a truck.any body with a basic tool kit, and a workshop manual can keep one going they are very easy and cheap to keep. the only real down side is they are thirsty. the 2.5td averages around 25mpg when driven with a bit of spirit. if you fancy a day in country side filming, between the chaps we have every type size and shape off road vehicle you could want. surrounded by feilds, forrest and dissused quarrys to play in. if you fancy a go,. let me know.

I currently driving a Toyota Yaris Sr with a 2zzge engine swap & before it has a engine swap the previous engine had 270,000 miles & only had a clutch change once. Never broke down. Hi Jamie. Thanks for the video mate. I'm a lover of Japanese cars myself, I have a 2007 Civic 1.8 for my daily, a 2002 Celica for my project car and a 350Z for a bit of fun on the weekend.
I got married a few months ago and we quickly realised that moving out and in together involves a hell of a lot of runs backwards and forwards. The Civics magic seats really helped out but there was too much too-ING and fro-ing. We decided we'd look into a bigger car with a single requirement - it's cheap and reliable. Plus, we'll need a family car or a runabout one day so it makes sense to have a shared family car (no way the missus gets to drive the Z!!).
I've always fancied an Audi Q7 since I was a kid, but a high mileage Q7 would make me feel anxious cos I have never had luck with any of the German cars I've owned in the past. I was also looking at an A4 estate but wrote the Audis off simply due to the fact I've never had luck with them and every German car I've owned had gone to shit.
Enter the Shogun - it looks to do everything I want for the simple reason that it's big and Japanese. When you said that once the seats are folded down, you practically have a van, I was sold. I know Japanese build quality may be lacking in some areas but in terms of reliability they outperform and outlast their German counterparts.
Really appreciate you fold us that an 05 model helps to keep the tax at a more of a reasonable figure.
Time to add a shogun to the collection, my thanks again for the review!
