Very good video and informative! I picked up my LVS34 this winter and I'm absolutely loving it. I'm finding along the same settings that I like to run also on mine. One thing to add is the trails are sometimes nice for the walleye that like to hug tight to the bottom to pick them up a little easier. Otherwise most of the time I agree trails off. I do prefer amber color most of the time myself though. Great videos keep up the good work!
Thank you! It’s very interesting to see what others pick for color scheme. It definitely seems like everyone’s eye picks up certain schemes better than others
Great video and thx for posting. Looking to pick up the Garmin Livescope Plus this week and been consuming every video I can on it. After all, it ain't cheap! Tight lines!
I have used it on the rainy river. I haven’t had a ton of issues with clutter, but for whatever reason I don’t see fish as easily. I wonder if they are tighter to bottom or if they are moving too much.
Hi Enjoyed the video just wondering if you have any shallow water video’s. we fish walleye in 4 to 6’ of water where we are and I find it difficult to set up the units. Any tips or tricks. Thxs.
Glad you enjoyed, Aaron! As long as it still works not at all! Check what the cord is. If it’s the ice fishing (IF) version the cord will Be softer and better for ice.
Great video! I'm new to the lovescope scene. Just purchased the 34 this year. I had question about calibrating Compass? Is it necessary to set this up for ice fishing?
I didn’t! Great idea. It is the Ultra 106sv. I like forward a lot, especially for panfish. If I know I’m going to be fishing one spot for a while I will definitely switch to down. Especially for the dead zones.
I don't think it's an Ultra106sv, I can hear you turning the dial to zoom. Has to be a GPS Map 1042xsv or maybe the 12. Echomap series does not have a dial. Great video as usual TJ!
@@erics667 thank you! This one actually is the 106sv. I’m not sure if you were hearing me push the + for zooming maybe. I wish I had the gpsmap so I could screen record!
Great Video really like how you took time to explain each setting in more detail, I'm just new to the Live Scope game and purchased the LVS34 having trouble picking targets up passed 50ft in shallower water I'm going to give your settings a try and see how it goes, I've never played around with the focus to much I'll give that a try as well. Thanks again!!
Glad you enjoyed and found it helpful! You’re going to love this Livescope! I would say bumping up that color gain and making sure your transducer is straight will help a lot when picking targets up, but that longer distance in shallow water can be tricky!
Awesome video. Im really looking to get a livescope before my family's trip to Minnesota next January. I was wondering, whats the battery life on that battery? I believe its a 16.5 amp hour battery? Also, I was told that the components in that bundle (shuttle and pole) are junk and you absolutely need to upgrade. Is there any truth to this?? I hate to spend an extra $1000 if I dont truly need to. Thanks man!
I’m not 100% sure the battery just bad at the time. I have been running amped outdoors batteries lately and they are 100% worth the upgrade. I went with the biggest at 48ah because I run my cameras and stuff off it as well. I didn’t have great success with the original shuttle, but can work in a pinch if you don’t want to make the investment right away. I eventually bit the bullet with the arclab shuttle and pole and very glad i did. Not cheap, but definitely worth it for me!
These settings should work very well for that! If they are super tight to bottom it might look like “lava” rolling on the bottom. If you turn on bottom fill it may be helpful to see them moving like that.
Do you use that active Captain app much or not at all?... And do you keep up on your software updates?.... Just picked up my first garment package. The echomap ultra 2 106 SV.. 34. Transducer
I just bought a brand new unit an lvs 34 live scope.. are these units updated already? With Brand new software?.. not sure what the active captain app is for either.
Depends on where you bought it from and when it was made, but it should be good to go for you! If you do update, I would update with an sd card and not the active captain app
Okay thanks TJ. I'll probably call customer service and see what they say also... I just bought it at Sheels the other day on Black Friday.... Can I transfer my waypoints on an SD card from my hummingbird to the Garmin?
@@tjsguideservice one quick question- do you have a video about how to distinguish fish by size? I still really struggle with telling a panfish from a larger bass, etc. Thanks again! I now subscribe to your channel.
@@spintowinstradic6067 I currently do not, but that’s on my list to create is to go through some of my Livescope footage and talk about what I am seeing to help people distinguish what they are looking at!
It depends on your unit. Mine is touch screen so I can zoom in with my fingers, much like on a phone. The first thing I would start with is making sure the angle is your ducer is straight. Sometimes they can get slightly off and then the deeper you get, the less you see your jig. I would also try putting your color gain to 100% and slowly increasing your gain until you can see your jig. Otherwise, play around with the direction of your ducer and see if that helps!
I have an lvs34 and am wondering what your thoughts are regarding the following. Question pertains to down mode. Lets say your in 10 fow in a 2 man house, the unit is right in front of few a few feet away and is in the center of 2 holes so you're actually pointing at one of the other holes. JIgs show up great. Turn the unit 90 degrees and don't see the jigs. The hole are about 2' away from the lvs34. Is there a formula as to how "wide" the cone angle is in down mode? thx
It is a 135 degree by 20 degree cone angle. So I think you are looking at your 20 degree cone. I think the general rule of thumb is roughly 1/3 of your depth. This video may give some clarity! th-cam.com/video/JeH4XbJBeZM/w-d-xo.html
Just picked up the 34 with the 106sv. Quick question, how did you get the gain, depth, and range to appear. My screen as the factory shortcuts. I used your settings and am dialed in!!!
It is still quite visible, especially when on 100% brightness. The only time I have major issues is if the sun is reflecting directly at my eyes. I also bought a sub shield from Arclab and that has helped a ton!
Great video TJ! I have the LVS 32 and I feel sometimes when I am in forward mode in shallow waters (10 or less fow) the walleyes can sense the beam coming from the ducer. Many times when I am scanning the beam hits them and I see them turn around or they will come in close 5-10 ft away and sense the beam and turn away. Do you think walleyes can sense the beams coming from the transducer? TIA for your input
Thanks, Will! I have wondered this many time and have talked with people that swear by it. I can’t say I have noticed anything personally. I have had walleyes come in in 6 feet of water and attack my jig like crazy. Spooky fish can be spooky fish no matter what, sometimes. Not saying it can’t be part of it, and I would be curious to learn more, but I haven’t experienced it personally.
@@tjsguideservice thanks for your input. It doesn’t happen all the time but it does happen often to me on certain lakes. Which could also be from the high fishing pressure making the fish more skiddish. Keep up the great content and tight lines 🎣
I just wish that garmin will gave us ppl a chance out there who doesnt own a livescope to get into their livescope product without paying a price that we can't afford.
Besides scouting initially for fish, there is never a time where you should be using forward view ice fishing. Down as the same in front and back of you and has way better detail and no wasted screen? Not sure why people would ever use forward once you are set up and found fish. Forward is for scouting and summer fishing. Don’t use it for winter
I agree and disagree. Down can give you the best picture of you are sitting in one spot. If you are hole hopping chasing basin crappies it makes way more sense and is way more efficient to keep it in forward and just zoom in and out. You can still clearly see fish underneath you and biting, but can also fzoom out and see fish 100 feet away without having to change settings.
Thanks TJ, Very helpful setting up my LVS34!!!

Is there a setting to get rid of the lag time? Like when you jig your rod it takes a second before you see it move on the screen if that makes sense.
Not that I am aware. Each upgrade in unit improves the processor so the lag time improves with each unit, but nothing that completely eliminates it.
