Indian filmmaker Mrinal Sen speaks about Calcutta city

Indian filmmaker Mrinal Sen speaks about staying in Calcutta, he says, "I must tell you that by birth I am not a Calcutian, I came to Calcutta when I was 15 years old and the very day I came to Calcutta I fell in love with Calcutta for very many reasons. I was deadly scared of Calcutta being in a sprawling city and I was also deadly loved Calcutta for the simple reason that I felt I was very close to the world hat was it and in addition to that I had my sort of association with the political activities in those days and as a student I couldn't escape, I had to take part in the political activities and since then I was awed by Calcutta a kind of reverential fear.
Over the years a lot of things had gone by and as I see that Calcutta acts both as an irritant and as a stimulant for me. I get irritated by very many things which I experience in Calcutta which I would never experience elsewhere outside Calcutta and I have also very many reasons why I feel stimulated by Calcutta so I had become what it is the Calcutta because of its unpredictability".

Thank you so much for uploading this interview but I am disappointed on interviewer for interrupting Great Mrinal Sen between his responses and before he concludes his answers. I don’t think it’s a good gesture towards a person like him.

Mr. Sen is quite wrong. You don't get anything out of an interaction with the West you only get something out of it if you rule the interaction itself. That is, see what they are doing, identify what is useful to you and use it and then throw the West away.
