I've seen that "ezer" translates as help, but not just the mere assistance or help from someone. Rather the kind of help an army provides. Meaning that Eve was a strong and necessary complement for Adam.

@@anaguerrerosholisticwellbe2788Ezer means helper. The possessive form of ezer is ezri. Ezri is used in the Psalms as a word for the Lord.
Psalms 70:5 But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are *my help* and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay!
      (ESV)
Clearly, the Lord is not subservient to the poet. Therefore, the root ezer does not have the negative connotation that the word "helper" gives it.

It's ezer(עזר=help. Not associated with subserviance) not etzer(עצר=a stop/an heir) and the full phrase is עזר כנגדו(an opposing help. There isn't one interpertation of what this means but some common ones are:

-Someone who can help by opposing you/giving a diffirent opinion
-Someone who stands opposite or besides you

This is mostly linguistics and history of religion... so as long as you're interested in either field, this isn't religious content.
Besides atheist isn't the direct opposite to religious. Atheist is the opposite of theist and there can be religions that aren't theist, and there can be non-religious people who believe in a god they came up with, or who believe there could be some kind of god. So you could have a religious atheist and a non-religious theist.
And an atheist should study religions, especially from a historical point of view, to better understand the value in being an atheist.. having a reason to be skeptical is much better than just saying "there are no gods" without having any context for what gods people are talking about, and what exactly you're denying and why.

@@sabssabssabs The Great Commandment: In Mark 12:31, Jesus says, "Love your neighbour as yourself." This implies that loving oneself is a given, and it's used as a standard for how we should love others. The assumption here is that people naturally care for themselves, and should extend that same care to others.
Using your self-love as a model for loving others

Biblical self-care: Ephesians 5:29 states, "For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church." This verse suggests that self-care is natural and even Christ-like. (specific to your question read Ephesians 5:28)
Taking care of yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually

Created in God's image: Genesis 1:27 tells us that humans are created in God's image. This implies an inherent worth and dignity to every person, which could be seen as a basis for healthy self-love.
Recognizing your worth as God's creation

Balance with humility: While the Bible encourages a form of self-love, it also warns against pride and selfishness. Philippians 2:3-4 advises, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."
Being honest about your strengths and weaknesses

Self-reflection and growth: 2 Corinthians 13:5 encourages self-examination: "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves." This suggests that loving oneself includes honest self-reflection and personal growth.
Seeking personal growth and aligning with God's will
Here are some practical ways to cultivate self-love:
      Practice self-compassion:
Treat yourself with the same kindness you'd offer a good friend
Be understanding of your mistakes and failures
      Set healthy boundaries:
Learn to say no to things that don't serve your well-being
Prioritize your needs and communicate them clearly to others
Take care of your physical health:
      Eat nutritious foods
      Exercise regularly
      Get adequate sleep
Nurture your mental and emotional well-being:
      Practice mindfulness or meditation
Seek therapy or counselling if needed
Engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation
      Embrace your strengths:
Recognize and appreciate your positive qualities
Celebrate your achievements, big and small
      Practice self-forgiveness:
      Let go of past mistakes
Learn from experiences without dwelling on them
      Cultivate positive self-talk:
      Challenge negative self-perceptions
      Replace self-criticism with encouraging thoughts
      Invest in personal growth:
      Set meaningful goals for yourself
Learn new skills or pursue interests
      Surround yourself with supportive people:
Build relationships with those who uplift and encourage you
      Distance yourself from toxic relationships
      Practice gratitude:
Regularly acknowledge the good things in your life
Appreciate your own efforts and progress
      Accept compliments:
      Learn to receive praise graciously
Believe in the positive thing's others say about you
      Take time for self-reflection:
      Journal your thoughts and feelings
Regularly assess your values and life direction

As a wife, I enjoy the thought that I am a complement to my husband, like a teammate. I do give him the respect of a family head, but it's very clear from the scriptures that women were not meant to be servants, but rather a manager of her household, leaving the final decision up to her husband, but having plenty of authority as well. So glad God is so respectful of women and never intended for them to be viewed as inferior.

Ezer doesn't mean savior. In Hebrew, savior is "hatzala" and rescuer is "metzila". Ezer usually means help, but the original writing is "Ezer kenegdo" which basically means, someone who will balance adam/act as a counter-weight.

@razcho8969 - yeah, for me the key to understand the meaning is in the meaning of kenegdo.@@flaviusmuntean6391 I would say rescue and help can be used in Psalm context, kenegdo in genesis context can be translated as something equal and complementary, like the other half. So ezer kenegdo would be a help/rescue from someone that is equal to you which actually complements you. usually the use of Ezer in the bible would usually be attribute to someone higher/stronger than the person being rescued/helped, unlike in English where helper that refers to a servant. So kenego could be used to "level down" the helper to the same worth than the helped, instead of someone higher like the help from God itself

The fall (sin) made men domineering and controlling which put women in a very bad situation, dependent, always pregnant, not physically able to defend herself and always vulnerable, and so the result of the sin of the fall was subordination yo man and circumstances, which fostered anger and resentment. Then Jesus came on the scene and brought change and redemption and a new order that made the family work well. A man should love his wife so much he would literally die for her, and she would love her husband so much that she would respect and honor him. Out of that mutual love, kids would be raised to see parents who sacrificed their own sin natures to serve the Lord which resulted in a peaceful and happy family, which once again, reflects the nature of God to a lost world. “The phrase translated as “help meet” comes from two Hebrew words, ezer and kenegdo. …
Ezer means “help,” but in a distinct way. In English, a “helper” is sometimes thought of as someone in a low position, but ezer describes strength. It suggests that the individual has power to rescue others. Ezer is used 21 times in the Old Testament, always describing a person with the capacity allowing one to help, protect, or aid.2 In most of these cases, ezer describes the way God offers help to rescue humankind. …
…kenegdo means “corresponding to” and “opposite to.” It describes two things that are next to each other and complementary to each other, but different from each other-like facing opposites. …
…’ezer kenegdo’ suggests that God created Eve in counterpart to Adam, with the power to rescue and serve.”

A walking stick is an “ezer” for a person while walking. It takes the burden off of his legs somewhat. Eve was supposed to remove some of the burden off of Adam to assist him in life. It can also mean “rescue”, but in the sense that the burden of protecting oneself is somewhat removed because someone came to the “rescue”. Hebrew is awesome.

After the fall, we see both the _protection_ and contention when God appoints a leadership role to man and tells Eve it would be her desire to take that, but it is not hers.

Companion sure but I don't think they are meant to be equals and I think the Bible is clear about the desired relationship between men and women. Men lead women like God leads His people. And women respect and be loyal to her husband as His people are supposed to be to Him.
More so it would be companion or helper as in complement. If you look at the biology of men and women, especially brain activity, it is clear that the way men and women function and operate we are like complements and we can't be whole until working together in a harmonious manner. But that manner isn't in an equal way, but in a mutually respectful and honorous way.

The problem seems to be mordem people have too much pride to be under someone else’s rule. Everyone wants to be in charge. The fact that we have people even fighting to take authority from the man shows us this. Being the men is hard. Being responsible for lives is a weight that only a fool argues to have.

@@codymadison9993 he didn't even mention leadership. You brought that up. A lot of men are not worthy of leadership, so women lead ourselves and then yall get mad. As a woman who can get pregnant and be vulnerable in that time while putting my life on the line, I'm not going to put myself under the "authority" of just anyone because they have a penis.
My husband has authority because he makes good decisions that take my welfare into account and I can trust him to alway put my wellbeing first as his wife.
I do appreciate that you mention how hard it is to be the man. It seems like everyone only wants to talk about how men have authority and power over women instead of the reality of the responsibility, skill, and wisdom needed to be "in charge". It's not that you get to be on top of everyone and tell them what to do, you take RESPONSIBILITY for them. Very different and very, very hard.

When it comes to men ruling over women, specifically husbands over wives it is clear that is a curse from God, Gen 3:16 "And you will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you ". But also, later in the New Testament wives are instructed how to 'deal' with that by not rebelling but accepting it. This sounds like a lot but I am present tensely in Heaven right now seated in Christ my spirit is totally sinless exactly like God and my soul body on earth the vessel isnt under the Law of sin anymore so cant be judged for it is already judged crucifed buried away and now a brand new totally New Man spirit exactly like Jesus so much I can actually say I Am Jesus Christ. We both believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, yet this issue is a perfect example of the kind of test he was speaking about. If your heart wants to put women in their place and dominate as a man, you'll understand the whole of scripture to be backing up that belief, and parts which don't jive with that you'll find a way to explain away or ignore or...
If your heart wants to see your wife as your partner and friend, you will understand it that way. When you have the words of God in your hands, it is like a sharp sword. How do you use that sword?
In 1611 the king James was the only English translation around, and even though it wasn't and never claimed to be a perfect translation, people based their decisions on what it said, and God knew they would do so. He was watching, is watching, our response to this power. Do we become pharisees and wield it over others? Do we use it as a mirror and judge ourselves with it? Do we use it to understand God and connect with who he is? Your heart is being revealed. What do you do with power? What do you do with authority?
Whatever translation you use, they all are pretty good. But know your place as a human being and don't go beyond what is written. Walk humbly with your God.

@@brahimdiop5506 the Bible, that we know today wasn’t officially fully compiled until the year 500 but they used all of the original writings from the apostles, who had been writing since before, and after the death and resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. And you are correct modern English is 500 to 600 years old so you have to remember when they were originally translating the Bible to English the Catholic Church instead of directly translating, Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic they decided to just take the entirety of the Greek translation, and put it into Latin, which doesn’t directly translate. And then they translated the Bible from Latin to German, which also doesn’t translate directly, and then German was used as the middle language to create the original English translation of the Bible, because German was the only language close enough to English at the time because they were sister languages. So as English eventually evolved, they had to continuously translate. The Bible and words ended up having dual meaning, and the Bible in the English translation became very obscure. You didn’t see an actual cleaning of the English Bible until about the 14 or 1500s and the English translation of the Bible is still being cleaned up to this day in the protestant circles. But in the Orthodox Church thankfully they have been doing direct translations for quite some time I believe in a year 1843 they made a direct translation from all of the languages in the Bible to English, and unfortunately orthodoxy was not very popular in the west and still isn’t but orthodox Christianity is on the rise in the west and so the orthodox Bible is being used more.

There’s also something related and peculiar: In Latin, the verb ‘to save’ is ‘servat,’ which is the same term we derive the verb ‘to serve’ from.

"servat" is a false cognate of serve, or perhaps a super indirect cognate. We get words like conserve and preserve from "servat" which both contain the idea of "saving" something.

I like that it translates to help as you mentioned could be interpreted as a subservient way because scripture also tells us that whomever wants to be the greatest in God’s kingdom must first be the least. It also says that we must serve one another in love. Because Jesus Christ came to serve not to be served. I love how it’s a full circle.

Scripture also teaches that this "subservience" isn't a one-way street. I think us Westerners see that word and our minds immediately snap to the imagery of a "master-servant" relationship when, in actuality, it's meant more as a "give-give" relationship. "I serve you, you serve me" ad infinitum. I'd blame people's misinterpretations before I'd blame Scripture, though.

Don’t listen to this 5 second TH-cam reel. Honestly, best thing you can do is look into it more on your own, but I mean, this looks like a blatant reversal of what God intends. His word, God’s word, is first! Not our feelings!
In my opinion, “Helper” is still a more accurate translation. God’s word first, and then STILL, even as a woman, I don’t want to be a “rescuer” of my husband! This seems to me a very blatant and obvious reversal of the man-woman relationship. In marriage, you are “equal” but different, (that’s a long topic), no need to change the Bible to bandage feelings. I feel like the people who agree in this comment section with using “rescuer” instead of helper are merely using their feelings or viewing the world in terms of power dynamics instead of God’s vision. God’s vision for women is beautiful.

All this video does is explains what kind of help/helper Eve was. The way I understood this video is that Eve was meant to bring balance and not to be placed in a position above Adam. In English language helper is most commonly used meaning help from the lower position, servant. Eve is not made as that. Eve is not made to be a servant of Adam but to 'rescue' him from a life of loneliness. " ... It is not good for the man to be alone..."

Nah its made up and insults God like any Bible :
"O daughter Babylon, you devastator! Happy shall they be who pay you back what you have done to us! Happy shall they be who take your little ones and dash them against the rock!"
      (Psalm 137:8-9 NRSV)
NRSV, where the Israelites were asking why they were being attacked by the Babylonians:
"Hear and give ear; do not be haughty, for the Lord has spoken. . . . And if you say in your heart, 'Why have these things come upon me?' it is for the greatness of your iniquity that your skirts are lifted up, and you are violated . . . because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies. I myself will lift up your skirts over your face, and your shame will be seen."
      (Jeremiah 13:15-26 NRSV)
"Skirts lifted up" is sexual assault. "Violate" is rape. The King James Version has the quaint "heels made bare," which obscures the sexual assault.
Notice that the "iniquity" for which they were being raped was not immorality or depravity; it was simply because "you have forgotten me."
There are nine passages in the Old Testament where God makes cannibalistic threats. Here is the worst one:
"And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat."
      (Leviticus 26:27-29 King James Version)
General Jephthah made a vow with God in order to defeat the enemy. When Jephthah won the war,
"And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord: 'If you give the Ammonites into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the Lord's, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.' . . . When Jephthah returned to his home in Mizpah, who should come out to meet him but his daughter, dancing to the sound of timbrels! . . . After the two months, she returned to her father, and he did to her as he had vowed."
      (Judges 11:30-39 NIV)
After burning his daughter, Jephthah was rewarded with a prestigious judgeship and was later buried with honor.
Cutting babies to pieces and raping the wives
"See, the day of the Lord is coming - a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger. . . . I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty. . . . Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated."
      (Isaiah 13:9-16 NIV)

Ezer does not imply "subservience" at all. It means helper, but in the sense of a "strong ally", one who comes to assist or rescue. So, the woman was meant to be more than a simple helper. She was meant to be a steadfast ally, even to the point of rescuing him from his troubles. The idea implys commitment to his welfare, not her own.

      Facts!
When analyzing literature you have to read the whole chapter, and not just a single word.
Sure a single word can mean one thing, but when taken in context it will change it's meaning.
When God created he saw it was good, the only thing he saw as not good was adam alone, thus he created eve, a companion for adam who was a strong and necessary complement to Adam.
Then God goes on later to say "They shall become one flesh" and it's not just sex 😂
But they complement each other, with their own strengths, and they're there for each other in their weakness.

That's an issue with almost all the great ancient religions honestly. A lot of cultural information gets lost 1) to the sands of time, & 2) in translation. It would be most appropriate to actually have practising priests who KNOW the old ways & why things are done & said the way they are said to actually have more open dialogues with new generations of their own religion as well as with people who can translate the old words into more contemporary language that the young can understand & make sense of. A lot of the modern disillusionment with religion & spirituality, & by extension conflict between generations with competing ideas, can be very easily remedied with calm open dialogue. Not the sort you see televised as "debates." That's just reality tv in a different form. Real, open conversations. Those are vanishingly rare today.

Was Satan successful in tempting Adam to disobey God before Eve was created?
What does the Apostle Paul say about this event?
Is there a Biblical order in the position and roll of god, adam, and Eve and children or are they all equal and the same in their position and roll?

Modern Hebrew Ezer doesn’t mean rescuer. It’s an uncommon word for the meaning “helper”, but it does mean helper, or help.
It’s very much possible that Ezer meant rescuer, and that the modern day meaning is influenced more by the globalized culture. Help as a concept itself is also influenced. But it’s unlikely that a drastic change like that occurred for all the words that are related to Ezer, like Ezra (help) or Azar (helped).

    • @sigalsmadar4547
      @sigalsmadar4547 ปีที่แล้ว

Context reigns supreme in determining meaning in a Biblical text. You cannot judge the original by today's standards. What does the Text say? With the exception of 2 instances, EZER refers to God as Rescuer and Help (not English helper like servant, but like the rope and lifesaver they've thrown out to keep the guy from going over Niagara falls)
The first Not Good in the Bible was Adam being alone, even though God was with him. 😮

No no no no. Big no! Helper is still a more accurate translation. I feel like the people who agree with using “rescuer” instead of helper are merely using their feelings or viewing the world in terms of power dynamics instead of God’s vision. If you’re going to use God’s word, don’t try to bend it to make it “less offensive”. God’s vision for women is beautiful.

Ezer Kenegdo is the full phrase used in the Torah, and translates more to something like "beneficial adversary". Someone who is able to be on the same ground as you and will push back when they see that you are doing something out of line. Adam and Eve were meant to help each other grow and stay in line with God's commandments. May we do the same thing in our lives with our spouses, not arguing, but pushing back when we see things that aren't right with the intent not to hurt, embarance, or scar them, but with the intent to heal, lift, and love them.

The word "helper" can have many different connotations, including that of subservience, as in "the help" being a term for servants. "Rescuer" more accurately emphasizes women's importance as equals, while "helper" is more ambiguous, and can be interpreted by sexists as a sign that women's role is simply to "help" men rather than the much more important role of RESCUING us.

Scripture does say that in the last days (From Jesus assent to the Father, until his Return to judge the world) people would stop listening to sound doctrine, they would turn to the teachings of devils. That they would gather to themselves false teachers who tickle their ears. That MANY false prophets would arrive. In 2 Thessalonians 2 we are warned that God's judgment on the people of the last days would be to give them over to deception because they do not love the truth, but love wickedness. And that this was God's judgment to prepare them for destruction with Satan in the last day. So it's not a joke. But those who Love the Lord will hear his voice. They will know his commands.
