    If you experience issues or shaking while driving your xDrive equipped BMW, there may be a fault with your front drive shaft. Over time, the u-joint can wear enough to erode the flange, creating a vibration while driving. In our case, the drive shaft and flange were so far gone that we just replaced the whole axle.
    Gareth Foley is back again to walk you through the simple step by step process of replacing a bad drive axle in your E90/E91/E92 xDrive BMW.

    What are the symptoms(sounds/noises) of this issue? My 2008 E92 had a horrendous metallic rattle that was synced with wheel speed. When I would push a wee bit of acceleration the noise would quiet down until the acceleration died off. It sounded really obnoxious. The mechanic told me it was the front drive shaft, broken at the Transfer Case.

    • @aimized1460
      @aimized1460 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really bad vibrations depending which shaft it is the front or the rear one if you fail to repair the broken one it could lead the other one to break also… from what you wrote it could be something within the whee like a wheel bearing or perhaps your brakes are rusted up hence not letting go off fully

    Is there a technique to getting the front driveshaft to rotate in order to remove the bolts? I mean, if it doesn't seem to want to rotate, what should one do to get it to disengage, or go into neutral, or whatever you want to call it?

    • @fcpeuro

      The idiot before me removed the driveshaft on my 335xi. You can drive it around without it. Just make sure its covered. Also pull fuse 24/50 (Might be fuse 26 and 50) in the glove box to disable the xi/xdrive system so you dont get the 4x4 AWD error if you try to dyno, drift, or do burn outs.

      Removing the transfer case motor will make the car rear wheel drive. However, there will definitely be codes stored in the transfer case control module and possible the ABS system since they are both tied in with one another. These codes would be BMW specific module faults and not standard OBDII PO faults you can read with a generic scanner.
