  • Today, we're removing the oil pan from my E46 325xi! In the previous video, I showed you how to remove the axles, which is necessary to get the pan down. We also had to remove the front differential! Hope this video helps you if you're trying to do this job at home :)

    I took on this project last year and lost momentum. Restarting this week and your videos have helped me regain motivation and not feel as lost in the process. For anyone else in my situation, take notes of the steps as you go along so you know exactly where you left off. I’m dealing with a broken exhaust bolt, hoping I can drill it off.

    Your video was very well detailed. I will be doing the same process to my son's 2002 330XI AWD. I am a little better off I have a lift here at my home.Thank you very much.

    Thanks for posting ! I have 2006 325xi and need to do the oil pan gasket and I’ve been searching for a video and all I’ve found were videos that didn’t match my car. I was about to give up and then I found yours ! I think this is the one I’ve needed ! It’s currently 12:45 am ! Who would have thought - now I can sleep on it and get it done finally ! Great work man ! Much appreciated !

    Getting ready to do this myself but I heard that you need special tools to separate the front diff from the oil pan or it can break one of them. Glad to see that guy was full of it lol. Still a pretty big job though, good information and thank you for including what sizes I will need. I have a 22mm but I usually keep it at work so I'll be sure to bring it with me when I tackle this project myself.

    Great video, thanks! I'm about to tackle this job in conjunction with a few other projects: replace power steering pump, lines and reservoir; replace oil filter housing gasket and oil sensors, tighten up water pump bolts (didn't get them tight enough when I replaced the pump), and possibly some suspension bushings if they look bad. Looking at your video, it looks like I should also replace the motor mounts while I'm working on the oil pan. What else should I replace for preventative maintenance while I'm down there?

    When reinstalling the subframe did you replace all 4 bolts that connect to the body and the 2 on both sides for the control arms? And if you did can I get part numbers for them because I’m having a tough time finding them before I start this job.

    Nice video. Now that i have seen we share the same type of oil pans. What is the actual oil capacity of this very oil pan. The car manuals are made standard for the ordinary 325i when it comes to the xi there are alot of internet battles saying 7.5 litres to 8 litres and others saying 6.2. Whats the right capacity for the xi?

    So I was unfortunate enough to blow the motor up on my 2001 xi wagon years ago. Its been sitting since and im just now getting around to replacing it. Or gonna try haha. How much more work after this point you got to, would there be involved in order to pull the engine? I cant imagine much, besides exhaust removal and unbolting the transmission... and I guess electrical connections and emissions and what not... Am i right in thinking so?

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot more work to pull the engine, everything on top of the motor needs to be disconnected as well, and then you may have to remove the transmission as well, depending on how you're removing the motor. Good luck! it's a big task on these AWD cars, but can be done with patience!

    • @TheBimmerBarn

      I shadowed 2 master-level technicians and learnt as much as possible, combined with plenty of experiences in bmw shops that gave me a great feel for these cars mechanically. I love learning as I go and trying new things. This car was a challenge because of the awd differences. Thanks for watching! 😊
