Metoidioplasty versus phalloplasty - this is generally surgery done to recreate the penis in a gender reassignment surgery wherein a female would like to become a male. A phalloplasty is creation of the penis wherein skin is taken either from the forearm more commonly or rarely from the thigh and shaped into a penis and then using special techniques called microsurgical techniques is created and attached into the perennial region to some make a appearance of a phallus. Whereas in metoidioplasty what is done is that the clitoris which enlarges because of hormonal treatment in these cases of gender reassignment becomes bigger. This is released surgically a new urethra tube is created and it is lengthened to a size of almost about 4 to 10 centimeters. The advantage in this is the sensation is preserved however the size may be small. In a phalloplasty the size is bigger but it requires three surgeries. One is the phalloplasty creation of the penis second insertion of penile implant and a scrotoplasty with testicular implants. So it is a multi-stage procedure and as in contrast a single stage procedure is preferred by a lot of people wherein it though it is a smaller penis you have a sensation which is well preserved and lot of people seem to be happy with this.
