Obligatory comment: It's okay if you don't have bottom dysphoria! It's okay if you develop bottom dysphoria later on and change your transition goals! You don't have to have everything figured out right now. I'm 25 and a year on T, and I have zero plans to get bottom surgery 'cause I don't have bottom dysphoria.

Florida prin Samuel it’s scary to know you think in such a way. As a human, surely you should realise that there’s more to you than the ability to have children. As a real man, I love to treat women with respect, love and care. In fact, I have no intention of ever getting a woman pregnant due to the fact overpopulation already exists. I’m sure a lot of women and men would prefer to take the moral choice of adopting. Have you ever considered a transgender male wants bottom surgery to make themselves more comfortable within their gender? It’s sad to see that small minded people like you still exist 😔

Florida prin Samuel you’re just proving the fact you’re small minded... being transgender means you were born in the wrong body. It means your physical body doesn’t align with how you feel inside. If you did your research like an intelligent human being, you’d of read the facts and the facts prove that being transgender is legitimate and proven by science. But of course, continue to embarrass yourself for the whole world to see. We’re laughing at you.

I had a couple of years ago some pretty serious surgery (not trans-related). I took the following steps:
    1. After the doctor told me, what surgery I needed I looked the surgery up (Wikipedia).
    2. I looked up individual stories of people who had the surgery done.
    3. I made a list of questions as to procedures, materials and risks.
    4. With that (mostly informal and anecdotal) 'knowledge' I now went to the official statistics. (Provided by health ministries, health insurances, doctor's associations - here orthopedic)
    5. Who is especially at risk, and do I belong to a high risk group and if so, what can I do to improve my chances. Or: is my situation so bad that I am willing to take the risk to get the chance of improvement?
    6. Now I looked up hospitals. Are there any hospitals partnering with quality management? Or better yet an independent assessment center? How are their numbers?
    7. Is any of those hospitals in my (affordable) proximity? How important are visits of family and/ or friends? Can they reach the hospital? Can a friend stay close by overnight?
    8. Does this hospital offer public information about the surgery? What kind of information? Is it possible to meet an experienced doctor without already committing to the surgery? Does my insurance pay for information visits?
    9. How long do I have to wait for appointments - for information, preparation and for the surgery?
    10. Does the hospital and/ or my insurance support any scientific study where I can participate? (I help others and surveillance is better as a rule.)
In general: any weird feelings inside your stomach may be a sign, that you are not yet ready/ that the procedure or the hospital doesn't fully convince you/ that you need counselling to get a clearer picture of what you want and need. Needing transition surgery is (in most cases) not a life threatening condition, so you have that time.
I hope, that helps a little! All the best to all of you! Very kind, honest and informative channel - thank you!

This is a fantastic breakdown, thank you.
I have health complications such that a procedure I have been told I need to get, could wind up going not great, with rather severe consequences.
I've been waffling about it all, and appreciate this cut and dried approach to what has been somewhat vague mental and emotional splashing about.

    • @susanne5803
      @susanne5803 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@willbephore3086 Sometimes we just have choices between bad things. Try to find information about the several options of treatment - plus: very important! ask a competent and not involved specialist what would happen if you don't do anything.
With some medical problems nothing terrible actually happens. You just continue to have the same problems or to have flare ups if it's chronic. But that's stuff you know and you are somewhat experienced to deal with.
With some medical problems things turn progressive and ugly. You might need a treatment you want to avoid now later anyway for palliative reasons. I think that makes the option to take the treatment now and have at least a statistical chance for real improvement more palatable.
What are things you want to do in your life? How important are they? How important are they if you weigh different interests and activities against each other?
Do you have a job you love? How can you continue to do this job if you
      - don't do anything and get maybe progressively more ill?
      - take this treatment and have a bad outcome? (Unless of course it's death, then it won't matter much to you ...)
Do you have a partner, children, parents, family, friends, fandoms you want to be together with or are responsible for? What would it feel like for you if you can't do that anymore?
Does time matter? Is a different less risky treatment in the foreseeable future available? Could you physically manage a couple more years?
Write lists and decision trees! Get this stuff out of your brain!
I wish I could help more. All the best with whatever decision you arrive at - and if you decide you take the treatment I wish you experienced and kind people around you and serendipity! Take care!

Jamie, thanks so much for this video, it's really helpful.
I started my medical transition at 13 (I'm 18 now) with puberty blockers and I've definitely always known that top surgery was a priority for me, I'm thrilled I was able to have it at 17 (I'm about 1 year post op now and couldn't be happier with the results) but for awhile I was unsure about bottom surgery. I certainly knew I wouldn't be comfortable having sex without bottom surgery, but I was somewhat nervous about things like results and function (especially given all the misinformation) and had a pretty low libido anyway, so I figured I might just skip it and limit my sex life to what I could do with my pants on.
Now that I've been on testosterone for awhile (exactly 2 years and 4 months as of today) my libido has been increasing a lot as well as my urge to masturbate and that's been making my dysphoria a lot more focused on my genitals. For the past 6 to 8 months, give or take, I've known that my transition needs to include bottom surgery. Actually doing the research has made me a lot less nervous about it, this video is one of the things that helps. I haven't decided on type yet but I am leaning towards metoidioplasty.

Sorry for the rant.

    • @neroblythe
      @neroblythe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Lisa Briggs hey, I'm currently 14 and going through the transitioning process. The way I had to make sure I 'knew I wanted to me male' was creating a profile online and going by the name I'd want to choose down the road. Personally I'm a gamer so I would play games and have people call me by the desired name to see if it felt right. This is just my experience but maybe it will help with you too.
As for your parents unless you are sure they would react that way don't give up hope. I was pretty convinced that my mother would reject me once I came out but to my surprise she is and has continued to be my most supportive person in the subject. Try easing around the question a bit, seeing where they stand on the lbgtq support spectrum and go from there.
Hopefully this has helped you a bit, if not I know there are a lot of places and channels that can help you figure out your gender identity and how to come out to your parents. Much love 🖤

My experience was exactly the same which is why l initially said I'd never have lower surgery. The thing is that people rarely post when things go well so the most common posts you see are from folk who have had bad experiences. What people also forget, is that those bad experiences go on to be corrected. Also, people post at different stages and people forget they are not seeing the finished product. Like you say, people need to properly research. Yes there are complications but these can be overcome and the majority of people have great results, as l have. I always recommend people read the book Hung Jury, which gives an honest first hand experience from guys who have had different lower surgeries. Great video my friend!

Hey, just a little reminder that most of the info we find online is completly US based (so it's completly different from how it happens over here in the EU) like even for T or top-surgery a lot of the stuff I googled or heard people talk about did not quit happen like that here. Also, where I lilve we do have a surgeon that inveted his own "Bottom surgery" for FTM method as he hated what was being done everywhere else so the procedure /results are nothing alike those you find most people talking about (not like those they take tissue out of your arm or leg) he does say you can regain partial to full sensation back.
I do want to know if you had any kind of procedure (like hysterectomy) how is it in terms of pain in the long term post op? I heard that some people get pretty bad chronic pain (might also depend on how it's made?) but I am really wondering on all the pros and cons
