That old XJ is so nice that it is lightly modded and interior looks great. Would love to see it visually restored, perhaps a repaint by Robby. Maybe a Golen motor upgrade, axles and transfer case upgrades for you know...reliability lol
Not really needed if you don't get big rims or lift the car more than 2 inches, the axles bending is a byproduct of the unibody chassis, it acts as a giant spring when axles are crossed and ends busting them. To be fair, it is a reliable car from stock for trails a daily use,if you want to do anything else, it needs a lot
Matt,I have to Praise You and Jamie on what a great Job you two did on raising you kids!!! They all are super polite and always willing to jump in to do heavy work. Props to You and Jamie!!!
Rhett definitely seems like a natural, he pays close attention to dad which is really cool. Calm relaxed just does his thing and listens to his spotter. Atta boy, Kaulin will get there too, everybody has a different pace. Great team with different strengths. Listen to dad and you'll get it boys. Great video!
The Banana, The Rudicon, The Tangerine, Deja Blue,... what will Kaulin's be? Matt is known for Corvairs, but at this point i think he has rescued more XJs😂
This is a great example of a father teaching his son's responsibilities. They aren't home playing video games. They are learning one of the most important lessons in life common sense.
You guys got me on the XJ's! my neighbor just gave me an 88 Laredo. "the chrome one" and it's got about 227000 on the clock. just over break-in i'm hearing for these lil tuff trucks! I own two now and my Jr. and myself will be wheeling this summer. an 88 and a 96! fun fun fun! TY!
I'm probably only about the 10 millionth friend to suggest something like this, but why not build an A-Frame that is small enough to fit on the back of the wrecker. So you connect the apex of the A-Frame to a strong part of the vehicle you are towing to keep it away from the wreckers tailgate?
If the wrecker hasnt done anything it HAS brought them boys around to doin the job and actually paying attention and wanting to learn.. and THATS awesome
Y'all got one of the best teachers when it comes to what y'all do you're all prodigies of him and you all got it in the bag you all have amazing skills you wouldn't know if it wasn't for him the whole country needs fathers like MATT.
This is a great segment. I've towed vehicles and trailers, but not this with the jeep. I understand the concept to keep it from moving but I wouldn't know how to make it happen. Great job all.
Matt, you guys just make me smile !! You work so well together and it's a pleasure watching and knowing the next generation is here!!! Great work ethic. You always recover one way or another one day or the next
Kudo's to Matt for letting those employee's handle the tows. Learning never ends. It is so hard to let them fail so they can suceed. Good carpenters used to throw away alot of wood!
@avlisk I've stopped by the shop a couple of times, but the crew wasn't there once and was busy filming the other time. I wasn't too bummed though because Lady and Peanut were there for me to love on. I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area to go to the shop and get some 🐕 🐕 🐕 doggie kisses. I'm actually overdue. I think I'll run over there in the next day or so and see those mutts!
Hey Matt, there must be times people worry about if they should call for help. This one is a good example of not pushing thing’s till they broke. (Or it tumbled/rolled down the hill) Might be a good aspect to talk about. People shouldn’t be worried about asking for help, especially when you make things look easy and just drive out, and they think “why didn’t I do that” A big Hello from Alice Springs, in the centre of Australia.
I live in Washington Utah and LOVE seeing you out in “my” stomping grounds doing your thing. Your channel is a good fix when I am unable to get out and play. Thanks for your quality channel!
You are blessed to live in Washington, Utah. I usually spend the winters in this area. Matt's Off Road Recovery kept me inspired when I was stuck back in Kentucky, saving for a new vehicle. I love those folks, but I love Peanut MORR!
Kaulin I remember the anxiety I had when I got my roadtrain licence in australia and was legal to drive on the road when I was 24, I had been driving trucks on the road from 13-16yo and wasn’t as scared but the more you do it the more confidence you will gain it’s called experience so keep at it 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Editing gets better with every episode. It's always been good, but in the recent videos you have dialed it up to 11. And damn, love that Jeep. Just a solid and clean ride.
How about a checklist? Before you leave for any recovery job you simply make sure you have water, tools, radios, straps, ropes, gas, ect. Just a thought…
Matt you should build a Tow bar and some kind of bracket that can latch on to axles to keep it still from moving backwards and forwards or some kind of device that would you’d be much more efficient on time great job tho guys love the crew
He answered this one in some Q&A video. Point was they intentionally didn't build something like that because the wrecker was built for rock trails where solid link would limit angles between it and the towed vehicle.
For a moment now I refered to Rhett as the Young Padawan. .. Now, I need to recognize that HE IS the Jedi of this channel .. His nerves are superior... He spots like a Pro He has initiative Doesn't feel fear And he drives like a Pro .. Fun to watch...
An old tow truck usually had a solid bar that attached between the vehicles that way when you lift it the vehicle won’t roll into the tow truck. The wrecker needs that 4:59
6:59 I drove a tow truck on and off, for an Auto Body Shop, .. the real trick to lose the anxiety, might not be right for anyone one working for Matt! ... BUT?? What we used to do was .... Just was getting usd to just NOT giving a crap about the customer's car? If it got damaged in towing, more profit!
You have the coolest recovery vehicles. I have always like the Chevy Corvair body style and the Corvair wagon you turned onto an off road vehicle is so awesome.
Ive got a real clean Xj like that, shiny chrome, nice patina paint, dana 44, 5 speed manual. Ive been putting off replacing the motor, though i have a spare. It hasn't been driven in years...
I thought posting on the most recent video might help… I’m sure I told you about my Pismo Beach story on Devil’s slide 1973…. it is an off camber to the right climb something like a switch back but it’s a Sandune and it’s a 30 foot Sandune drop if you don’t ride it right well we got hung up.…. There were people there to help, but my father was fairly stubborn. We took the spare tire off of the back drugged up the hill took our shovel took the winch line wrapped it around the spare tire and buried that spare tire is deep as we could in the sand and pulled ourselves out, my mother was completely freaked out the time of my life
We need a Peanut GoPro Harness View thrown into these Vids to see the trouble Peanut gets into, Lol Lovin-it!
“We’ll sniff em out!”
Ive been thinking this, and said it a few times!
He has one, they used to use it on the other dogs.
+1 😁
You mean a Peanut-cam? :)

What is a Golen motor?
@@garychandler4296 it's the 4.6L stroker they put in the Banana and Robby's clone.
A set of JK or JL axles, 33s/35s, and crossover steering would make that XJ bulletproof for most wheeling.
@@Baltimorons762 Here comes the Kaulicon
Matt,I have to Praise You and Jamie on what a great Job you two did on raising you kids!!! They all are super polite and always willing to jump in to do heavy work. Props to You and Jamie!!!
So Kaulin wanted a jeep like that one, so he bought that one. Good deal Kaulin Good job Rhett getting the wrecker down the same hill!
I just love how Matt let his kids take more and more responsibility and learn advanced skills. Advanced skills like buying Jeeps on the spot! 😁😁😁🤟
The wrecker business always has good broken stuff. Cheap.
The Banana, The Rudicon, The Tangerine, Deja Blue,... what will Kaulin's be?
Matt is known for Corvairs, but at this point i think he has rescued more XJs😂
Best ine in the script: "What am I? Hard of smelling?"
Seinfeld reference
That's a line from Seinfeld. The B.O. episode. His car stinks from a valet with B.O. so bad he sells the car.
I thought the line when Rhett was on the ridge was funny. “Alright you should be good there” Matt walks away “we’ll see if he’s good” 😆
Kaulin, that is an absolutely gorgeous XJ, congrats, I'm glad you like the early models, gives us both of them on the channel now! Congrats again.
A little pressure and anxiety is a good thing Kaulin. Keeps you from becoming complacent.
Man you guys have a beautiful backyard! Stunning. The pressure will always be there Kaulin. But with experience the anxiety will decrease.
Rory from trailmater explained the WHY. This may work on the dunes but probably not. But not trails or rocks.
Matt has explained this before too. Long story short. Having a static connection wouldn't allow him to traverse over large obstacles properly.
All the boys in training with the Heavy Wrecker. You might have to build a couple MORR. Yes pun intended 😂
I figure a few morr XJs and they can have a whole bunch...of bananas
If the wrecker hasnt done anything it HAS brought them boys around to doin the job and actually paying attention and wanting to learn.. and THATS awesome
Still waiting on a tee shirt with our favorite dogs on it.
Who besides me would buy one???
I would 100% buy that. Make a "Peanut's offroad recovery" t-shirt please.
Y'all got one of the best teachers when it comes to what y'all do you're all prodigies of him and you all got it in the bag you all have amazing skills you wouldn't know if it wasn't for him the whole country needs fathers like MATT.
Every time I see the heavy wrecker in the sand it looks like something from "Mad Max, Beyond the Thunderdome".
This is a great segment. I've towed vehicles and trailers, but not this with the jeep. I understand the concept to keep it from moving but I wouldn't know how to make it happen. Great job all.
something tells me Peanut just LOVES riding in the wrecker.
I think she likes just riding around with her 'pack'...
Matt, you guys just make me smile !! You work so well together and it's a pleasure watching and knowing the next generation is here!!! Great work ethic. You always recover one way or another one day or the next
For the 2,743, 219th time...the MORR Off-Road Wrecker is an amazing, strong, capable BEAST of a machine!
Kudo's to Matt for letting those employee's handle the tows. Learning never ends. It is so hard to let them fail so they can suceed. Good carpenters used to throw away alot of wood!
"Peanut's Off Road Recovery"
We want a Peanut tee shirt!!!
When Peanut stays home on a recovery, I miss her. Such a great dog.
The sound the rear steer makes is such an Aliens P-5000 Powered Work Loader thingy 14:00
Kaulin is turning into Matt more and more everyday 😂😂 Moms gonna start sweating soon 😂😂😂😂😂
Kaulin I remember the anxiety I had when I got my roadtrain licence in australia and was legal to drive on the road when I was 24, I had been driving trucks on the road from 13-16yo and wasn’t as scared but the more you do it the more confidence you will gain it’s called experience so keep at it 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
“What am I, hard of smelling?” Classic Seinfeld line!
Editing gets better with every episode. It's always been good, but in the recent videos you have dialed it up to 11. And damn, love that Jeep. Just a solid and clean ride.
Xj recovery’s are always interesting
1:21 super awesome camera angle; wow that is epic. ❤
How about a checklist? Before you leave for any recovery job you simply make sure you have water, tools, radios, straps, ropes, gas, ect. Just a thought…
It's not as much fun to watch when everything goes to plan. 😅
(Sorry Matt)
If they're like me, they'll leave the list at home.
It's cool seeing all the old 4wds on this channel. They all rusted out around here years ago.
That pressure is what keeps you on your toes and others safe. Think through every movement and interaction. Big and small.
ANIOTHER JEEP BUILD LETS GO
For a moment now I refered to Rhett as the Young Padawan.
..
Now, I need to recognize that HE IS the Jedi of this channel
..
His nerves are superior...
He spots like a Pro
He has initiative
Doesn't feel fear
And he drives like a Pro
..
Fun to watch...
It's always a beautiful day in Mr. Matt's neighborhood.
An old tow truck usually had a solid bar that attached between the vehicles that way when you lift it the vehicle won’t roll into the tow truck. The wrecker needs that 4:59
You need a peanut cam
6:59 I drove a tow truck on and off, for an Auto Body Shop, .. the real trick to lose the anxiety, might not be right for anyone one working for Matt! ...
BUT?? What we used to do was .... Just was getting usd to just NOT giving a crap about the customer's car? If it got damaged in towing, more profit!
What’s with all the bot comments?
You’re actually the bot… so this is kinda awkward
Welcome to TH-cam
Beep boop
Bots love XJs…… 🥸
TH-cam sucks at getting rid of em
