SLIME TIME!!! DUALLY DOWN!!

- Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, we get another opportunity to test out our new 2024 Western Star 49X with a Miller Industries, Century 9055XL. The 9055XL is a 50 ton integrated (non-rotating) 3-stage boom. The XL is for Extra Long reach and has the same capacity as the standard 50T 3-stage. A customer calls us to perform a winch out of a truck and trailer with a piece of farm equipment that is stuck in the field after heavy rains. When they said farm equipment on a trailer, we thought perhaps a header or attachment of some kind. We were NOT expecting a miniature combine!!! It's the smallest combine I have ever seen, short of a toy. Anyway, Ethan takes out his/our new truck #18 along with one of our part-time employees to help this customer who is just slip sliding away in the slimy field. It's a far reach off the solid road. Can he get to it without putting his/our new truck in danger? Watch and see. So far, I am loving this truck and what it can do!!! Thank you, God, for blessing our family and our business. Watch as we continue to receive God's blessings. There is much more to come!!! I hope you enjoy this video!!!
We have a difficult and dangerous job and we take it very seriously, that doesn't mean we can't have fun and enjoy our work. We strive to be polite, professional, efficient, and safe...and still can have fun. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

Dang Ethan you sound so much like Ron.
Just a little deeper
In one video a couple months ago, I watched for like 20 minutes before finally figuring out it was Ethan and not Ron. 😆
He sounds more like Ron than Ron does. 😂
That's just what I thought when I started watching this video. I actually thought it was Ron at first but then I realized that it was Ethan.
Ron is his father so it makes sense lol
Im glad to see there are other grown sons like mine, that still say "love you" to their fathers. It usually means youre very close.
Great job Ethan..manners and respect runs in your family.
Good job, Ethan. On your next job, show the door panel with your name, please. You are so blessed that you chose to follow the family business and learn from their heritage. Give your grandmother lots of hugs!
It's a family owned company. Wish I was part of their family.
Ethan sounds just like you, Ron. He also hasa handle on the joy. It is really good that some young people listens and learns how to do task and not afade of work. You and our wife trained heim up well.
We are all having a "Proud Dad" moment with you. Great video, proud for Ethan. Grand Dad , if possible for him to see, is smiling.
Like father, like son! Great job, Ethan. Ron must be proud of you! 👍
Ethan, I like the fact if you're not sure of something, you call your dad. That is a good choice! I'm proud of you. Good job!
Sean was a great addition to your team. He is a quick learner and intelligent man.
Good job Ethan, your grandfather in heaven is really proud of you and what you’ve accomplished. Your dad has taught you really well, keep up the good work
Darn, it is amazing how much Ethan sounds like Ron when he talks!!!
Not necessarily the voice but that’s really close but definitely in the mannerisms and vocabulary
@@Doubie.I agree. They TALK alike, even though their voices don't sound alike, if that makes any sense.
That "Here we go!" was so like Ron's voice; certainly the way he said it!
Yup! At first I thought it WAS Ron with maybe a little bit of a cold. 😮
Where is ron?
Nice job Ethan! You got big boots to fill and you’re doing a great job of it! Welcome to the team Sean.
I totally love the way you are thinking things through and planning before you act Ethan!
Ethan is still learning this profession. props to ron for showing ethan how to hook up for pulls and everything.!
Great that you have great teachers before you, namely your Grandpa and your Dad.
Good job, Ethan. 👍
I've been watching since Ethan was 15 or 16 years old and i remember at that time he didn't seem too motivated to do the job, nor did he seem to have a sense of urgency. (Like most kids that age). I can say it seems that he has grown into a fine young man, taking the job seriously and being a great team leader. You must be darn proud parent Ron and Mrs. Pratt!!! Keep up the great work Ethan and congrats again on the shine new rig!!!
I am remembering a video where Ron took Ethan on a recovery, a semi that dropped the trailer axles into a deep ditch trying to make too sharp of a turn. It might be the same one where Ron had to back the rotator about two miles down a narrow roadway to get to this truck. Anyway, Ethan grabbed a shovel, then some cribbing to help ramp the trailer out. I remember the customer remarking about his son being about that same age, but not showing that ambition to tackle a problem. I know that is not a detailed description of the video, but if anyone thinks they know which one I am talking about, it was really a good example of showing what Ethan would become.
Great job Ethan
Your dad did a great job of training you
Good to see you doing videos on your own now.❤
Job well done, Ethan. It was nice meeting a new member of the team. Shawn seems like a valuable addition. Looking forward to seeing many more videos of you operating this shiny new beast.
Stay safe and healthy.
Man! The new guy is all over it! Clearly applies his firefighter training into this work.
The range finder would be a great addition to the tool kit, for the rotator, too.
Great job, Ethan! And I really like Sean. He knows how to work. I especially like that you introduced Sean at the beginning. Your dad rarely bothers with that courtesy. Excellent in all respects!
Ethan is really showing his knowledge and professionalism. So awesome seeing Ethan follow in Ron's footsteps. More video's from Ethan please.
Very cool to see a video of Ethan in his rig doing a job
Hi Ron & Ethan... I really enjoyed this video very much... It blows me away that Ethan not only sounds like Ron but his mannerism, actions, demeaner & the way he moves and everything else about him is remarkably almost Identical...! There is a slight difference but all & all... Ethan you are the spitting image of your Dad...! Nice to see Shawn working Ethan too. You both work well together too... Awesome job guys...!!!👍👍
Nurture not nature.
Great job and nice having all the small chit chat about what you do and why! I really liked this video!
Alex at first thought Ron was talking.
His 16th birthday was Wednesday. I took him to Gene's Towing for the day, where he got the chance to go to, and participate in a couple real recoveries throughout the day. This took some doing with the owners of the company and child welfare and other state agencies involved in Alex's care to accomplish.
It is amazing what he has learned just by watching videos. Having a severe learning disability he does quite well despite what people say and think of what they can do. He doesn't like new people that well, because of the abuse he went through but he did well and seemed to focus more on the recovery more. Some of the people we were working with wasn't expecting a very small person doing what he was doing. Alex is now slightly over 36 inches tall and 26 pounds.
Great job Ethan! And Great Job Sean. As a Dad myself I am Very Proud
Ron you should be very Proud of Ethan. Ethan you should be very Proud of yourself, knowing when to seek advice/help from someone with greater knowledge and all that your Father has taught you, especially your Family Christian Values to Pass along to the Unknowing. Great Job Father & Son, May God continue to Bless and Protect you's and your Crew.
Congratulations to Ethan &Sean. !!.It seems a most harmonious working relationship!!. I really enjoyed watching this. No drama, no crisis, just a truck stuck in the mud,in the middle of a field!! & No 18 to the rescue. Living in the UK, it’s nice seeing parts of rural Missouri . Best Wishes to all at MWT. Roy W UK
I like how he is man enough to know when it's best to call for some wisdom. Especially from Dad!
I think Ron has taught him very well and if he isn't sure or doesn't know Ethan is Man enough to ask for Help/Advice knowing that is the way one gains more knowledge.
That's a great team! Ethan has his own particular rhythm, and it gets it done.
I'm proud of you Eathon, you are getting much more professional and thinking ahead more about the situation. You are definitely getting the experience you need to be one of the best in the business in a few years.
Great job Ethan and Sean, Sean is a great addition to the crew. Stay safe out there.
Wow! Ethan! You sound just like your dad! You're doing a great job. I love watching tow trucks do their work. I've adopted you as a grandson. Grammy Charlie.
The way you guys maneuver these trucks out on these tiny farm roads is impressive. I’m sure towing and backing up your camper with your pickup is a breeze. After seeing how Ethan hooked up to the truck I think I would’ve basketed a strap through the tow hooks or gone higher capacity with a shackle and brought them both together in a single shackle to pull from.
Shackles, shackles, shackles. Let's both side of loop pull equally, where as if they are looped into each other one side may tighten more than the other. Also truck hookup which Ron already commented on. Otherwise great job Ethan!!!
*Ethan, well done... great job done. Sean/Shawn works really well as a team member... that he was figuring out what was needed without being told. 🙂 But dang at the beginning, I truly thought it was Ron speaking... until Ron put up the written words. 🙂A great proud Dad & Mum moment was had I reckon 🙂.*
Great job Ethan and Shawn. Calm Cool and Collected as usual. And knowing your dad he will find fault somewhere but to your viewers it went well
Great job by both. Ethan has learned to make small moves and watch all four corners as not to get it in a pickle. STAY SAFE OUT THERE.
I remember Ethan driving with his Dad to do jobs when Ron had less than 100k subscriber and the guy was a kid, now I cannot even differentiate between them!
If I hadn't seen Ethan on the reflection of the truck near the end I would think is just another Midwest Truck Ron video.
Job well done to the guy riding to the job. Like most firefighters I know he’s a hustler.
That was certainly an interesting way "to reach 10." Good job, boys on getting in back on the solid.
May God continue to bless the Midwest family.
Oh wow ! I haven’t watched for a bit … Now Ethan is doing the recording!!!! And he has your voice! Wouldn’t know it wasn’t you Ron! Very cool!!
Great job Ethan! love seeing how much you've grown and how your work ethic is coming along.
I don’t want to sound like a broken record. When I first heard Ethan speak? I thought it was Ron getting over a cold. The more I heard Ethan speak it dawned on me that it wasn’t dad, it was Ethan. Great job! You really have paid attention to dad. And not above calling dad for advice. Shawn was great help. Awesome job to both. Like grandfather, like father like son. The company is in great hands.
Grate job Ethan with the tow and the video
Great job done by Ethan n Sean and the new truck 43:13 you all stay safe. Everyone PLEASE MOVE OVER AND SLOW DOWN WHEN YOU SEE FLASHING LIGHTS RED BLUE YELLOW N GREEN LIGHT.
Ethan, shawn u both did a good job didn't get stuck and got the customer out awesome. God bless and keep safe 👍👍🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷
A real chip of the old block! Congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕🙏🙏🙏🇬🇧
I never thought I'd think of a piece of farm equipment as cute.. but that combine is adorable.
I wasn’t paying too much attention at the start and thought that’s not Ron but the mannerisms were so similar, it took me a few minutes to realise it was Ethan. Good job by the team and Number 18 proves it worth yet again, new truck , new team the start of a dynamic duo !
Great job! Love seeing him put in work with the new truck.
Only thing I have to say, I drove a Star 4900SF hauling coal and learned not to lock the axles in if you absolutely had to turn because coal mine muck is kinda like there, very slick and you'd just go straight cause it hinders your turning so bad, maybe didn't matter here but just a thought. I never found a hole with that star I could get out of even after I was stuck once I fully locked it in
Erhan is super good at his job!!!
Shawn is a great asset right out of the box.
Thanks for another great video Ethan.
It was interesting and enjoyable.
Welcome to Shawn to the team. He is very knowledgeable and easy to work with it appears. Good man you have there Ron.
Nice easy pull Ethan. You did a great job on this one. You got them out without any issues. Nice work to Ethan and Shawn.
You all take care.
The retired Air Force veteran.
Boy Ethan sounds just like you Ron. Thanks for the video
Ron, I'm gonna make a suggestion to find out.If you can do it is to take a nap. They can make a storm or signal from the control box.
Or the remote cause I've got 2 to 200.
Yards of cable you should 200 yd of cable, you should be.The control box should be able to reach at least 300 yd away from the truck.Alright, this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida.God bless you say safe
Nice job Ethan and Ron it's a learning job, I agree on your comment about the rigging on the truck and expanding the endless ropes, but it's a learning process. He got him out save without damage.
Hi started watching your Dad yrs ago you've done well son. Still enjoy watching you guys cheers n beers Marty Australia
Good morning Ethan and enjoy your channel and stay safe
Ethan is so mature for his age. He's doing really well.
Ethan you did a good job, but like your dad wasn't a fan of the way you had the sling run. It probably would have been better to run them as a basket each with a shake & pulled that way. However, you got the job done & no injuries or damage to the customer vehicle or yours, so it's a win bud. Just be careful you all & God bless.
👍 keep up the good work myself. I am a tanker driver transporting jet fuel for the last 21 years. I have to say that yes I agree with you your father is watching over you. ❤
Ethan it is awesome to hear your voice you sound so much like your Dad
Great job Ethan ! Your new buddy is a good one, but .. he needs to wear Hi-Viz clothing, when you were at your truck, and he was the the job site you couldn't see him. As a fireman he should be used to wearing the corrects gear when at any job. Ethan, you were in charge of this job & the employees safety is your responsibility. Get him kitted out and look after him, he did a good job assisting on this one. His idea of a range finder was a good one. You can get range finders form most golfing outlets.
Yes, any worker definitely needs the appropriate attire for a job. This young man is not a full-time employee with our company, but we should have asked him to wear a vest while taking care of the issue. Thanks for watching and God bless.
That's a beautiful tow truck 👍💯
Wow. He sounds exactly like Ron. Even his mannerisms, "Heeere we go."
Guys i love the new rorator. Great job.
Very nice work very smooth 👍
Great job Ethan. Yea, probably shouldn’t have crossed the truck with the sling between the tow hooks, but lesson learned for the next time. No damage and a happy customer.
Like God will say, well done my faithful friend. Ethan you did a wonderful job and a good teacher.
That's a dirt side road--- anybody that wants through COULD WAIT.. it won't hurt them.... I would NOT chance putting that 70,000 pound monster on that mud side area...NOT WORTH it.. but- I know YOU are extremely good as you were trained by the BEST.... so-- GREAT JOB as usual...
thumbs up, great video, always an adventure to be had ,thanks for bringing us along, always learning new equipment, some dark storm clouds in the sky there
One day you'll paint a markers on the winch cables to tell you when to stop unspooling it.
The cables are lubricated. Can they still be painted? If not, some brightly colored heat shrink tubing might do the trick.
On ships we paint the bitter end of the anchor chain in bright red
If you paint first... the paint will stay. Once you grease the line, it's nearly impossible to get paint to stick.
There's a sailor's trick to weave in a piece of small line, but might not fit in the pulley wheels. We weave a length of line along the side of a mooring line that is slack until you are at the load rating of the line. If the little line is tight, the heavy line is in danger of breaking.
Part of the problem is that you are 200 feet away when you need to see the marker. If you are close enough to see the marker you can see how much cable is still on the drum, so it's sort of a moot point.
I like you guys ways . Most outfits is get there and get it done. They don't care about safety. So keep up the good work.
Ethan has a bit more bass in his voice than Ron, and Ron speaks a little faster. Still tough to get the difference, but its there.
This could have been done probably with the lil pete 4024 but always better to be safe than sorry and bring more truck than you need. Nice job Ethan!!
I miss the other trucks. You never knew what truck was going to pop up on a Friday. In the past 6-7 weeks all I have seen is about the new Western Star. Don’t get me wrong I’m proud then have a new beautiful truck but I miss seeing the roll backs and the rotator. 😢😢😢😢 Hope this channel isn’t becoming about just the new Star.
@@williambaker08 I don’t think it’s that this channel is about only the new star but that truck is a sweet spot for most jobs. I am sure that we will see the other trucks again they are just enjoying the new truck. That rotator was getting over used before the new truck came…
Wow got to see the country side , it's been a min , since I been riding in the country 😊😊
Ethan I'm sure your dad is very proud of you keep up the awesome job.
Not only does Ethan sound like his dad he also uses the same phrases as his dad. U2 did a great job getting that combine truck out.
For a while I thought it was Ron talking until, he said he needed to call dad about the cable on the drum. Good job Eathan
Is there a way to put some kind of visual mark on the cables to know when your out of usable line. Maybe a flourescent orange paint mark.
White paint.
great video and great job ethan you sound just like your dad anyway do more videos like that ron with ethan i really enjoyed the video
Good morning Ron and crew!! Have a great day and stay safe. God bless.
That is one great looking truck. Any towing company would be proud to have a truck like that. I could of missed it when they were telling what all the wrenches can pull. Dose it have what I believe is called a drag cable? I seen some on other trucks that they say has a 80 ton and a couple with a 100 ton pull. I'm sure it pulls hard with what it has . Again sweet looking truck I know yall are proud of it. Many many years of work for yall. God bless you all and thanks for sharing this and all the jobs you do
It's a 50 ton truck I don't remember if it has a drag or not but it should have the same pull power as the rotator as that is a 50 ton unit also
Great Job Ethan both narrating and the save
Ethan and Pat awesome job kind of money on that field but you guys did a good job you were good as a team to make customer happy you pulled out a Ford in a combined at the same time like I said awesome job
Around 15 minutes, have you noticed how incredibly much turn radius you lose when you lock all 3 diffs? You get better drive traction, of course, but those "solid" axles try and mostly succeed in making the truck go straight is spite of the steer axle. What I did in tight situations like that was leave the diffs open just until I finish the turn then lock them up. If it gets slick the moment the drive axles get off the gravel, that won't work very well the driver at the wheel is the only person in the whole world who can and must make that call. There's a reason trucks don't have back seats........no room for back seat drivers.
Good job Eason on with your new rig awesome job just like your father, very professional and be safe out there. Best to you and everybody in the family always looking forward to seeing the next video. God bless.
Nice first video of Eithan's. Good job.
Good job Ethan and Sean(sp?); Mission accomplished. As always more than one way of reaching 10. Loved the T-shirt Sean was wearing.
Was expecting a shackle or two in there somewhere. I was thinking of one eight-footer for each hook on the "dually" to a shackle to hook into the line. Running slings together like that has the potential to damage the slings, I would have thought. Likely not an issue here as they came apart easily.
Good Morning There My Good Big Bro Ron Pratt Sir & Yes I Am Still Praying For You & All Of You're Whole Staff & All Of You're Whole Family As Well & Everyone Else
Well done, Ethan! Didn't catch the name of your partner on this one but he did a great job! Was waiting to see your name on the truck!
I was thinking the same thing Ron was about the straps. Also, when bulling the truck with a load like that, aways straight forward until it can turn under it's own power. You risk damaging the hub and steering.
Those little combines are for seed plots test plots for new. Varieties etc.
Ethan, you are a chip off the old block(Ron). Great job recovering this truck and trailer.
Hi Ethan, nice job, you're as meticulous as dad. Well done, it's a pleasure to see your work
you know why your channel is so great because it s real .
Those plot combines are really cool, I’ve ran some before. They cost a surprising amount too, 500k.
Ethan you sound just like your dad❤❤
Stay safe and God bless
##wherestalon
Probably would have been better to run one strap to each hook to form a long V instead of crossing one strap through them both. From a geometry standpoint, the short V used here wastes power pulling the hooks towards each other, which also risks damaging them or the sockets they fit into.
Yep, that is what I was thinking having watch Ron over the years doing this. 1 strap per hook, use a shackle to make 1 hook point then a shackle per hook up onto the next strap. Then once it started to roll take the strap off the right hook so it pulls right. Just like you do on a rollback.
Was scrolling through the comments seeing if anyone else noticed the same thing.
That's not what I was nitpicking about - my concern was using cow hitches to tie the slings together, instead of a shackle or a chain.
Then again, I have zero qualifications in the field of T&R, so I don't really have much room to talk.
---
Edit: Ah. I see what you mean by "crossing the strap". I didn't clock that they triangled it through the hooks, rather than putting one of each end through.
@@Ottos_ScLm_Race_videos_2009_on As Ron has stated, "there are many ways to reach 10", but this one only made it to 8. In my opinion.
My thought as well. Slings should have been joined with shackles which would make undoing easier.
In the end it worked. You will learn more from your mistakes than if it all goes well. In this case it worked but I am sure Ron would do a debrief to teach another method for heavily stuck equipment.
More than one way to reach 10!
