A Bivy with a guest in a Northumberland Forest

  • I joined up with Graham Basnett for a hike and Bivy camp, we were to hike between two points leaving a car at each, but due to family circumstances the cars had to be in one place in case a getaway was reqd.
    So we ended up doing a tour of a Forest for Graham, we camped in a familiar spot, we had a few vehicles pass, and some shouting followed shortly after, we thought oh no spotted, but no, it was Jimmy and Rooney from Lundys Wildcamp/ bushcraft who popped in for a brew.
    It ended up a thoroughly enjoyable Bivy camp.

    What limit weather do you Recomend for tarp and bivvi ? ?? Hail and heavy rain . Wind moderate?. Would you consider this a four season set up all year round?

    • @northumberlandmountainhopper
      @northumberlandmountainhopper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and thanks for popping by, tarp and bivy ok for any weather, just the wind makes it hard, normally In the The wind I use a 140x140 magic carpet just to cover my head, just hard to pack up if it’s raining, bivy is warm inside but not so pleasant in cold wind.
      Cheers

    • @sahhull
      @sahhull ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A 4m x 4m tarp gives you more setup flexibility and better protection from the elements.
      You can fold it under to make a ground sheet and stop the wind

    • @dont_delay
      @dont_delay ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sahhull makes sense. Truth is i got a goretex bivvy - no need for tarp in bad unpredictable weather . . But if just day hike was in a storm last week and ised an aframe tarp very low and limpet like against the wind . Location was important above flash floods where i am located

    Is it safe to be having fire in a forest?

    • @northumberlandmountainhopper
      @northumberlandmountainhopper  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi and thanks for watching, yes using the fire box the way we did it, it was in a box and raised off the floor, on the three fat logs, we would never have a fire on the ground, and the proper campers who do, dig it out and go down to hard ground,not like that one we stumbled on which was on the top.
      Incidentally that’s only the second video of mine where the fire box is used,I normally just camp as fires are hard work !
